Do not go here if you're looking for chalazion or stye removal/surgery, I made an appointment here because it says on their website that they do the procedure to remove chalazions and when I got there they said they actually didn't and just did it on a very specific kind...which makes no sense. The doctor was nice enough and prescribed me more antibiotics but told me everything I already knew about my chalazion. Now I have to call an ACTUAL Oculoplastic surgeon to remove my Chalazion and it's going to take a month longer than I thought it would. read more

I'm under the impression that this used to be the place to go... 20 years ago! The initial technician basically ordered me to sit here, now here, now here.... In an assembly line approach through the screening... she said nothing to me except commands. This screening room looked like a small classroom full of old computers... they we eye screening machines. The 2nd technician tried to explain my options but honestly it was like listening to someone who memorized a script and she could not explain beyond the script when I asked for clarity in the differences. The doctor was just irritated and had no capacity to offer the benefits of the procedure she recommended...she went through the risks, she focused on the risks ... just really listing them fast as if to cover her basis and wanted to hurry me out to get to the next client... she never told me what the benefits were! So I asked, why would I do it?... she said ok bye. I asked for my $200 back but they refused. read more

Now that it's after two months since my initial appointment, I can give an Honest review of my procedure and experience with this office. My first appointment was a consultation. The consultation was not free like in other places. I thought "you get what you pay for" so I thought it would be fine. The money spent goes toward the procedure if you decide to move forward. I waited just about an hour after my appointment time to be seen. That was pretty annoying but I ignored it since I was so excited that I was doing something to correct my vision. After a couple of appointments they were finally able to get my prescription dialed in. Took waaaay longer than expected. I did the procedure at the Lake Mary location and I just felt like a number there. They didn't seem to care if I was there or not. Almost like I was in a factory and the patients were on the assembly line. At the follow up appointment same waiting game. I was seen about 45 minutes after my appointment time. The doctor recommended drops but didn't have them there. Why? Shouldn't everything they recommend be available there? Mind you this place is more expensive than its local competitors. They had me come in for my one month post op appointment. They scheduled it and gave me a card with the appointment time. When I showed up, they tell me that there was a mistake and no appointment was made. I asked if they could still see me today since that what was scheduled and I live an hour away. They said no and that they are fully booked. They said the other receptionist must have made a mistake and not put me in the schedule. Hey, I understand if I was a walk-in, but this was THEIR mistake. At about a month after surgery my eyes feel marginally better. I can see but not how I thought it would be. Vision is still somewhat blurry. I'm told it could take up to six months to heal but my vision should be at its final outcome about now. This place is ridiculous. If I were you I would try elsewhere. They are not the only laser eye surgery center and probably not the best. They are also not the cheapest. Others may have had a decent experience. This is mine. Would not recommend. read more

Incredibly disappointed in how I was treated as a new patient at Filutowski Eye Institute. I knew of this practice to be incredibly accommodating to patients in years gone by, but that all changed. i'm not sure what the problem is other than it might have become too large and they don't have a proper office management. It is hard to tell. I do know there are other practices that value their customers and do not treat them as if they are in some type of clinic. read more

I have seldom been so mad in recent years, or come so close to losing my self-control. Since I had to get my eyes checked when I got shingles - one of the greatest dangers - I had to jump through several hoops with my insurance company to get an appointment, ironically at their location that's over 24 miles away, instead of the one in Lake Mary that's 4 miles away. My appointment was for 10:50. I was told to arrive early to fill out forms, which I dutifully did at 10:30. First bad taste in my mouth was their way of strong-arming me into paying upfront, saying the insurance company HADN'T authorized the visit - which made no sense to me. Still, I paid the $148 they demanded just so that I can get it over and done with. Then I waited. And waited and waited and waited. Everyone who came before me and after me (assuming they ALL had appointments) had their names called. It was over an hour later when I finally got to see the nurse, who did what she had to do, and I was sent back outside to wait. Half an hour after that, I couldn't hold it inside of me any more. I felt like I was a captive there, held against my view, but I had no choice, and my 'tormentors' knew it, and they couldn't have cared less. The resentment that was inside of me finally hit the explosive point. I stood up, went to the counter, and, pretty loudly, demanded an answer to "Have you ANY idea when I'll be seen??? I have ben waiting for over an hour an a half, and I had an appointment, and everyone else has been seen!" I think this took that receptionist a little by surprise. She actually did a semblance of an apology. Within 10 or 15 minutes, I was called in to see the doctor. I explained to the nurse taking me in that I had been waiting a very long time, to which she said, "Oh I'm sorry - do you have to be somewhere?" This might have been meant to be some kind of innocuous question, but it came close to setting me off again. I said, "Just because I might not have to be somewhere does not mean I have time to burn." I didn't take it out on the doctor, who explained that she actually wasn't my doctor, but decided to step in because I'd been waiting for so long (so, I guess she must have known my situation by then). She did her exam, told me the diagnosis (good news) and sent me on my way. No medication, appointment for a month later ("NOT at this location, please") and I was out, almost two and a half hours after I'd arrived. Why are medical practices like this. There is simply no excuse for this kind of scheduling. They do it to maximize profit, is the only thing I can think of. They stack appointments to not risk someone cancelling last minute/no show so has to squeeze as many medical dollars out of the practice possible. If something unusual had happened - doctor was sick, in a car accident.... whatever the reason, do something to keep the patient informed, do this when I check in "I'm sorry to tell you: our doctor was delayed (or whatever the reason is...), and it is going to be a longer wait than usual. We think it might not be an hour before you are seen...") If they had done that, said, go to Starbucks if you wish but be back in an hour, I wouldn't have been dancing with joy, but I would have understood, and my expectations would have been properly managed. But I guess that only happens if they happen to care two hoots about patients. read more

Very impressed with this business. This place is quite large and beautifully decorated. The medical staff were very professional and nice. But what impressed me the most is how thorough they are. My surgery, counting the initial exam, will require two more appointments and a medical release from my primary physician! You can tell these people have your health and safety first and foremost. I had eye surgery here November 2019 and I couldn't be more pleased. I have had absolutely no problems and my vision has continued to be perfect. The staff is professional and always explain everything thoroughly. I highly recommend both the Sanford and, especially, the Hiawassee offices. My eye surgery went bad after 6 months there has not been full recovery, I paid this institute that is a money making machine $4500 to repair My vision. Due to inadequate procedure in February, I'm visually impaired, mu vision is reduced to the extent that I can't live a normal life. This institute have A few of incompetence Docters, every visit you get to meet a new Docter each with a new prognosi, "the lens has moved" it take1 year to heal" the calculation of the lens of the procedure was A bit off , and the latest ..You must live with double blush vision Because is NORMAL ... and we can not do anything else for you since your prescription is up. my mistake choosing the wrong surgeon for the surgery the man him self "Filutowski " the one that have me with impaired vision today. read more

Found this place from a radio ad on the way to work so decided to take my mom in. She apparently had severe cataract. We were seen by Dr.Munguba , he was very professional, compassionate, and explained the procedure to us during 1st visit. My mom was extremely nervous about cataract surgery, however, Dr. and his staffs were very friendly and made sure my mom was comfortable throughout. Her vision has improved significantly and we could not be happier with all the staff and doctors at filutowski eye institute. Highly suggest Dr.Munguba and Dr.Dempsey for all your eye needs. The doctor and all of his staff are extremely knowledgable. The Lake Mary office uses all of the latest technology and equipment. Dr Filutowski is an eye specialist. He is extremely experienced. He is a pioneer in this industry. Look up his bio. He is very concerned with his patients health and it shows from the time of your first visit. His handpicked staff are a considerate, patient, Respectful, caring group of people that run this office. The technicians are more knowledgable than some eye doctors I've seen over the years. I've been to the office at least 10 times this year with my mom. Every time I walked into the office has been a good experience and was seen by friendly people who just want what's best for their patient and it shows. Date:  10 April, 2022 I highly recommend Dr. Munguba, the staff at FEI Many times a day, I am thankful to Dr. Munguba and the skilled staff at FEI for cataract surgery of both eyes.  I was able to stop using glasses after the first eye surgery.  After the second surgery, my sight remarkably improved in the depth of color and clarity.  Every day, it has become a lot of fun to have this NEW LOOK at my environment. The entire experience exceeded my expectations. During the Q & A, planning, billing explanations and very difficult communications with a Medicare Advantage insurance companies, FEI proved the long term experience and motivation in their employees. I've had yearly eye exams and medical advice by board certified ophthalmologists for 20+ years because aspects of my career put me in frequent contact with leaders in ophthalmology. For the recent two and half years, I focused closely on the decisions for the choice of which medical expert and which clinic to conduct my cataract surgery.  I must say (with no humility), my exhaustive on-line investigations and in-person interviews resulted in the best choice...Dr. Munguba and the FEI staff. MY OBSERVATIONS: Dr. Munguba- His enthusiasm was comforting; and I was so impressed that he said- "We don't start this process until you are ready. You decide when you are ready to improve your vision."  Most importantly, I immediately felt a sense of confidence in Dr. Munguba upon meeting him and this was reinforced after reviewing his extensive training and experience on-line. It must give Dr. Munguba great satisfaction to have such an impact on his patients' quality of life.  Matina- I had prepared 11 questions. When she had finished her introduction of FEI and procedures, all questions were answered.  The paperwork that she presented me was fascinating.  It represented so many years of FEI's experience and fairly prepared me that so many things could affect the final outcome. She was very patient with me. Nathan- I experienced great disappointment with my choice of a Medicare Advantage insurance, after waiting a year to sign up.  Nathan (and Matina) had strategies to not significantly delay the surgery. I appreciate this encouragement and support. The FEI pre and post op staff are excellent.  I watched them comfort nervous patients and I was treated so well. Footnote:  A Medicare Advantage sales representative and their literature PROMISED that they support cataract surgery.  After I committed to the insurance, an RN Practice Manager overruled the written judgment of four highly experienced ophthalmologists.  She stated- "Based on Medicare guidelines, the company requirement is that your vision significantly impairs activities of daily living (such as dressing, bathing and walking)." read more

would give them ZERO stars if I could. DON'T EVER GO HERE! I have chronic dry eye that was not under control when I went there. Was using generic Restasis that wasn't working and I didnt know that. I thought my contacts were causing the dry eye. no tests were done to address my dry and cataract surgery was recommended with RLS to correct distance vision. I asked about using Restasis and their exact works were "you can if you want to". WHAT? want to?? HAVE TO! was told I needed to make sure to use artificial tears. Artificial tears?? seriously?? Filotowski or anyone working there NEVER did a simple dry eye test to determine whether my dry eye was under control. That test is paramount. if you have dry eyes, the last thing you should do is have eye surgery, therefore everyone should have that test. NEVER HAPPENED. because of that my eye pressures were high, I had severe rebound inflamation and spent months seeing a qualified opthamologist to treat the inflamation and chronic dry eye. I ended up with 20/60 vision in my dominant left eye which Filutowski chose to do surgery on first. I know now, that your dominant eye should NEVER BE SURGUCALLY CORRCTED FIRST. because he did that to me, I'm back wearing contact lenses which was the reason I elected to do cataract surgery in the first place. Filutowski ruined my life and the people that work there are no better. I saw them all and not one of them caught any of the great Filutowski's many mistakes. I paid $5000 for lenses that I see worse out of then I did with my contacts. these people are hacks. they need to be shut down! read more

In this era where doctors offices make you wait and seem more like the DMV than a professional office, these folks are Awesome! Waited 3 weeks for appointment, sent all the paperwork, Insurance, Drivers License etc. Get there day of, Can I get your insurance card, yes, 20 minutes later; we don'r accept Disney insurance. The Filutowski office is a very professional eye care center, with caring, friendly staff members. Although the office was busy, I was seen by medical staff members five minutes before my scheduled appointment. My questions were answered (most before I asked!), with obvious concern for customizing the care to meet my unique needs. I could not have been more pleased. My wife was a patient of Dr. Filutowski some years ago, and the professional manner in which she was treated and the excellent results achieved were the primary reason I chose this practice. At age 77 I have first-hand experience with a variety and significant number of medical practices. I have never experienced a more professional, courteous, caring group of professionals. I was seen by another ophthalmologist and scheduled for cataract surgery in 2 months. I didn't want to wait that long for surgery, so I called the Filutowski Cataract & Lasik Institute to see if they could schedule me sooner. They told me their wait time would be about 2 weeks. I was overjoyed and made an appointment for an initial visit the following week. When I arrived at the office in Metrowest, it was clean and bright. The technicians who did my initial workup were nice and seemed knowledgable. The tech dilated my eyes, and I waited about 20 minutes to see the doctor.So far everything was fine. I went back to see the doctor, and to my surprise, I was scheduled with another ophthalmologist, not the one who would be doing my surgery. She completed her exam, confirmed that I did need cataract surgery, and I was sent back to the waiting room to wait for the person who schedules surgeries to talk to me. I was uncomfortable not meeting the surgeon ahead of time, but decided to go ahead and proceed strictly on the fact that they said they could offer me surgery in 2 weeks, as opposed to the 2 months I would have to wait with a different surgeon. I was left in the waiting room for an hour and a half, waiting to talk to the woman who schedules surgery. When she finally called me back, she was pleasant enough and apologized for the long wait. She reviewed my exam briefly and told me we could schedule surgery for 3 months from now. 3 months? Wait a minute....on the phone last week, this office said I would only have to wait 2 weeks. Had I known the wait would actually be LONGER than it was with my other doctor, I wouldn't have wasted my time and money on another exam. I told her what the lady who scheduled the appointment told me, and she told me there was nothing she could do. "Oops. Sorry about that". I feel like I was misled. Bait and switch. Something in my gut told me it wasn't right to schedule surgery with a doctor who was too busy to meet his patients before the day of surgery, but out of desperation I was going to go through with it anyway. Maybe this will work out better for me in the long run. I may have to wait longer than they initially promised, but at least I met my other surgeon and feel comfortable with him. I won't be going anywhere near the Filutowski Cataract & Lasik Institute again. What a total lack of professionalism.. read more

A good friend went to another doctor and that doctor did something wrong. Dr. Filutowski was recommended to correct the error. The error was corrected. My Optomitrist recommended him. I checked him out on the medical rating platform called HEALTHGRADES and he was highly rated. There are a few negative comments in the reviews but given the number of people that have used Dr. Filutowski that is to be expected. The vast number of reviewers, including me, think he runs a very efficient operation (no pun intended), his staff if very professional and friendly, and he has every modern machine that exists to properly take care of you. I do recommend his services for cataract and laser work. read more

Dr. Filutowski is a fantastic surgeon and his office is truly amazing. It's efficient, quick, and modern. The staff are incredibly friendly and remember you when you return for a visit. Each of the doctors I've met are caring and thorough. I had Lasik at Filutowski and could not be more thrilled with the results. I never take the time to review things on the internet, but I made an exception in this case. I want to tell everyone I see wearing glasses to do themselves a huge favor and get Lasik! I have worn glasses for almost 40 years and to not have to put those things on anymore is such a blessing. I donated all of my glasses a couple of days after the procedure. It was totally painless and I would be the first person to tell you if there was ANYTHING that hurt, since I am a chicken. I wish I had done this years ago. Filutowski came highly recommended to me. I feel that I got excellent care and the procedure utilized the latest technology available. It was worth every penny. Went for exam told I had 2 cataracts, than I sat over 45 minutes wait for a counseler, I dont even know what a counseled was, now I know ,someone who screws you, I left before I sat with her and she called me 2 days later, they are part of my insurance plan, she told me it was covered by my insurance but my share was 950 , which by the way is my deductible, coincidence? NOT.Than she explained if i want to have the doctor to do correct test so i get the right lens it would be $5000 more to do so. So i asked $950 to get it done wrong and $5800 to get done right? Oh no she claimed thats not what she said, for $5800 they do more test to make sure i get the right lens. Either way you get screwed. Went to Mont cartwright and he explained to me only a couole of choices multifacet and another .My insurance covered me . No deductable no $5000 extra to do job correctly.Hey filutowki i wont be paying your ferrari tune up this month or any month.Avoid this business read more
