I work full-time and had scheduled the appointment at 11:30 AM specifically due to my work schedule. I arrived about five minutes early for my appointment and another stylist checked me in saying my stylist would be with me soon. Other than this one stylist and her client, the salon was empty. At 11:29, I got a text from Sheila saying she was running 10 minutes late. Unfortunately for me, Sheila arrived 17 minutes late for my scheduled appointment. Tardiness aside, the overall haircut experience was average. Neither Sheila nor I spoke much during the appointment. I had a 12:45 lunch meeting with my boss, was stressed about being late, and I felt trapped. There weren't any extra frills like a nice scalp massage during the wash - I'm sure Sheila was trying to get me done as quickly as possible. I did choose to give two stars instead of one because I felt the haircut itself was adequate. No fault of the stylist's, but I found Mimi Hair's wash sinks to be extremely uncomfortable on my neck! I remember old salons when I was a kid that had old sinks and chairs that put a lot of pressure on your neck. The other three LA salons I've been to have modern sinks and chairs, but Mimi Hair must have something older...my neck was killing me! Obviously, I was hugely inconvenienced and my experience was soured. Sheila did not offer an explanation for why she was so late or acknowledge the bad impression. I had to explain to my boss that my hairstylist was almost 20 min late! Sheila charged me $90 for the haircut, and I did still leave a small tip. I guess I'll keep looking for a new salon... PS: I forgot to mention there was a dog walking around the salon. The dog didn't make any noise but it's just not right for me.

I've been wanting to write this review for a while especially since I first discovered Sol through Yelp. The review I read said something like Grace is amazing with curly hair. I am delighted to share that this is an understatement. I've been going to Grace for the last one and a half years now. During this time, Grace has cut my hair in a variety of styles each of which highlighted my curls so beautifully that I've gotten the most compliments on my hair of my life. I am so grateful to have found Grace! (Also, I do want to mention that during my visits I've seen the other stylists do such beautiful work on people's hair.) Sol Soon really has the most talented team I've encountered. (And I have tried many salons throughout my life, which is common for a curly-haired person, I believe, haha.) Anyway, to conclude this long review, I feel tempted to share stories of all the compliments I've gotten and how gorgeous I've felt since I started getting my hair cut by Grace--but I think my point is better made by just saying the following. A haircut that perfectly complements one's personal style really does wonders for self-esteem. Before going to Sol I would get my hair cut rarely. I get up to get my wallet and she tells me she only accepts Venmo or Zelle, I asked for the total and she said: 320$. I was shocked and asked why, she proceeded to explain she added extra foils and that the ends trimming was another 120$! I am completely astonished. I say seriously end trimming is $120?! You didn't think to tell me this? Who would want to pay this much for ends trimming? It's outrageous. She tried to justify saying it's "salon policy" and all the stylists charge a full haircut when they trim ends, turns out it's not even true because there is no salon policy and all the stylists choose to do what they want once they rent their chair. Later I checked her site and saw that she chose to charge me the long hair cut (listed $100+), the most expensive in her list , to do the ends. She never once apologized or showed an ounce of interest in the difficult spot she put me in by more than doubling what I expected to pay and not allowing me to put it on a credit card. She has 0 customer service skills and hell, even basic human skills, no empathy whatsoever. The job done to my hair is not remotely worth 320$, it's average at best. If you still decide to book with her, make sure to ask every single cost for everything. Even to say hi there might be a charge. I knew I was going to pay something extra to trim the ends but never in my wildest dreams I'd thought I'd be over a $100 and it's very dishonest not to disclose it ahead of time. I also mentioned that I wanted some volume removed from my hair, but instead of blending it properly, she started cutting random chunks throughout my hair. Now, weeks later, I still have pieces sticking out that are barely about an inch long. There is no way to blend them or style them naturally. I literally have to use gel just to keep those pieces down because they stick out everywhere. I truly believe that if someone is not experienced or confident doing a certain type of haircut, they should not perform it.
