This review is so special to me because Christians pizza is my favorite pizza place! Whenever I'm in Richmond, VA I look for an opportunity to stop here for a slice or two. I love the look and feel of the restaurant. It's located within the VCU campus grounds and is a popular late night spot for hungry students. I came to know about it through friends who went to VCU. They have cheese and pepperoni slices for $2.75, after 11 pm. I love their specialty pies. The chicken parm pizza is a favorite as well as the chicken pesto pizza. The veggie loaded pies are pretty good too! I've never had a bad experience with the staff, they're always friendly and seem to enjoy happy patrons. I purchased a slice of pepperoni for $3.75 and the total came to $4.50. I understand how tax works, however, just 2 weeks ago I ordered the same exact menu item and was charge a total of $4.10. Unless tax laws have changed from September to October, how does this make sense. I spoke to the cashier and asked for a receipt. It just so happens that they gave me a receipt that was not itemized...ok, so I ask for the itemized receipt. She said she cannot do that. I spoke to another cashier and she just gave me that (i dont understand english) look but also told me "maybe the tax went up" Bottom line is this...the amount may be small, but this is about ethics. And if they added something on as a personal tip...well they missed out on a dollar tip. I am going to speak to a supervisor about this but they may have lost a customer. Top Richmond establishment to go before heading home after a night out. There are a ton of pizza options to choose from but I usually get the $2 cheese or pepperoni option with some ranch. In addition they have a extra cheese, red pepper flake, and oregano station to add to your liking. Depending on what time you go be prepared to wait in a long line. If it's during the college academic season the place will be filled with college students on Friday and Saturday nights with a line that goes almost out the door. Food is amazing but I swear last time ordered one box of pizza I felt ripped off. The Asian lady I think she's the owner, charged me $26 for chicken parm pizza with Half side of pizza w pesto sauce and the other have regular red sauce. I asked her why she charged me $26 she said cuz pesto is an extra charge and I asked her why she's didn't tell me before cuz it's not on the menu as an extra charge. Let's do the math! Its $15.99 for plain cheese. Then chicken topping was $2; therefore that's $18. Let's just say tax was 7%, cuz va tax is 6%. So that's $1.82. 18+1.82=19.82 26-19.82=6.18 So she's trying to tell me that she charged me $6.18 just for half of pesto sauce . And I asked her for my receipt so that I can see the charges and she said she can't give it to me cuz I paid w Apple Pay. Even the specialty pizza only costs $24! She probably tipped herself! I'll post my transaction form my bank statement. And an online order of what I got to show you that I was over charged and I'm not just tripping. According to my math if my pizza only cost me $21.99 that means she charged me 11.41% tax. So she basically tipped herself that much cuz no way half pesto sauce Costa $6.18 And the most annoying thing is sometimes when I'm studying late at the cable library I come to grab a slice and I forgot my wallet and I try to use Apple Pay and then they don't let me. Stopped in to pick up a couple of slices- love that they sell by the slice! Serving size was pretty large, but not the biggest pizza slices ever. The pepperoni was loaded with a ton of cheese, but the crust was droopy from the grease from the cheese and meat. Their chicken with veggies one had a super nice crunch in the crust all throughout, plus they added extra mozzarella on top of the slice before heating it up. If you're visiting Richmond, Christians is a must have. If you're out late Christians is a must have and if you're just craving a slice of pizza why not go to Christians. Situated right next to VCU's campus, Christians is open from 11am-2am most days. Off the bat there's always cheese and pepperoni and yeah those are safe but why not try something new? Christians has a myriad of selections and I think they're worth it. My personal favorites are the chicken, bacon ranch and the chicken Parmesan selections. And if you're vegetarian there's options for you too. From pesto and ravioli to a more traditional veggie lovers slice they've got you covered. If I was rating Christians on their specialty slices I'd give them a four but if you're sticking to your basic cheese and pepperoni it's really nothing new. Regardless you'll stop in at some point. I heard about this place MANY times before I actually came here, so I was sent in with high expectations. Thankfully, this place met them spectacularly. Came here with a lady friend in the early evening to dine in and see how their pizza compares with the multitude of pizza options here in RVA. This location is quite new (an extension of their empire from Charlottesville) and the attractive interior definitely conveys that newness. It's very small in terms of seating (a large communal table, some stools facing the window, and two small tables in the corner), though I get the idea that this place does a lot more takeout than they do dine-in. The staff members were very pleasant and active, though we did have to wait a few minutes until someone left their pizza oven duties to come and take our order (small place = fewer employees). Prices here are quite reasonable, and they've cleverly built the tax into the food cost to avoid the complications that lots of coins bring. Basic pizza is $10 (only one size here: impressively large), plus $2 for each topping, with specialty pizzas going up from there. Slices start at $2 normally, though they have a great $1.50 slice deal from 11 pm to 3 am (awesome, since I keep weird hours and could definitely see myself dropping by for this). Beer is available too and is also cheap. Usually, if you told me all of the above, I'd assume the pizza a place like this would serve would be of cheap quality; how wrong I would be! This pizza is extremely flavorful, with an impressive crust to boot (the perfect blend of chewy and crunchy, it's how all crusts should be). You get great value for your money here. While I didn't get a chance to try them, the calzones they have here look amazing as well. I'll have to give those a shot when I return! There are only two negative things about this place: 1) the interior is COLD; it's designed to make sure the heat from the oven doesn't overwhelm the place, though it seems to overcompensate. Bring a jacket for sure!, and 2) parking is either difficult to find or will cost you money or both, no lots around here. Factor that into your budget when you're making plans (75 cents an hour, FYI). This place has a ton of buzz about it in the area, and for good reason: excellent pizza at affordable prices in a pleasant (albeit cold) atmosphere. You can guarantee that I'll be making frequent trips back in the not-too-distant future!
