I expected a high-quality experience from a fee-for-service practice charging premium rates, but communication was terrible. The doctor never calls directly--messages are relayed through staff, like a game of telephone. Emails get phone calls back with staff reading a note from the doctor, and any follow-up means more calls. Nothing is in writing, there's no patient portal, and it's on you to keep track of everything. After my procedure, while I was still medicated, the doctor told my husband they found signs of infection and pushed him to get tested at her office for $400, insisting other doctors "wouldn't know what to test for." My follow-up for results was set six weeks out, despite infection results usually taking 1-2 days and pathology 2-3 weeks. For the cost, I expected timely, direct communication and a patient-first approach. Instead, I felt pressured into extra charges and left without clear access to my own doctor. I went to see Dr Peña with my daughter because I like the holistic approach to health that I believed she had. I ended up feeling scammed. I spent way too much money out of pocket and got nothing for it. The last straw was waiting over an hour for Dr. Peña who never showed up. She never followed up either. She doesn't care. That experience happened months ago and I just got another bill for thousands of dollars that her office never billed to my insurance. I have to pay this because it could affect my daughters credit. I also know her office will give me the run around like they did before. It's just a reminder that I need to warn people to beware Dr. Peña. Make sure to park inside the parking lot, on the 4th floor. They have 5 parking spots for clients, and the entrance is located on the same floor as the parking spots. The clinic / office is extremely clean and well kept. They give you tablets to fill out online forms instead of clipboards with forms, very up to date with modern technology. The service was quick and friendly. I wasn't seen by Dr. Peña because she won't have any availability until a month from today. I was assisted by her nurse practitioner, who was extremely sweet and asked many questions to ensure you would be properly treated. The young lady who takes all you vitals before you see the nurse/doctor was phenomenal! Her customer service skills are amazing. So far after 2 appointments I see the reason for the negative reviews. First It took me over a month to get an appointment... partially due to her schedule and also the front office insisting I contact my insurance company and get a referral with particular set of patient billing codes. I explained to them that's not my job and they were responsible for that. My appointment was on a Monday...I waited 2 hours due to an emergency which OBGYN's always have! (No biggie considering I'd done my research on healthgrades and she was supposed to be one of the best). The doctor came in the room....apologizing for the delay.... asked me the reason for my visit? said I need an ultrasound and speak to the assistant to help schedule it". (Walks out) I accept the appointment for Thursday bc that's the only day ultrasounds are done. At which time the receptionist explains to me if I don't get the insurance to put the referral icorrect CPT codes for billing obviously they'll cancel my appointment Finally! After having test upon test their office even though professional never followed up with me about any of my results so I'm thankful my vagina is still in tact. My recommendation is that even though her review says she's great! Check the office out for yourself! My opinion with her... she was all about money and making sure that she could perform whatever test in the office to bill my insurance. Pains me to say that this office has become useless over the years. A month ago I came to discuss solutions for my excessively painful and heavy menstruations that regularly cause me to miss work or classes. I oftentimes can't breathe, talk, or even walk; I typically end up crying from the pain. This has been the case for me since at least my teenage years. I expected to be meeting with the doctor herself but instead I get the nurse practitioner. For reasons that I still do not understand today (something about insurance), you can't do more than one "thing" for your appointment once you're there. This meant I could either do a consultation and lab work that day OR Pap smear only. I ended up having to come to this office two days in a row to do everything. When results for bloodwork and ultrasounds came back, I came in for another appointment (pro tip: you have to make sure you bundle your appointments...). The doctor basically only talked to me about my hormone levels, which according to her, were just fine. Everything was fine!!! Nothing was wrong with the ultrasounds!!! I believe I asked in two different ways how this relates to my horrible menstruations and she would not give me a straight answer. (By the way I paid in full that day, since they no longer accept insurance). Did I get any medical solutions after that $150 appointment? No. I still don't know what's wrong with me. In short: Truly the worst experience with a doctor I have ever had. She's money-hungry and borderline unethical. She's unresponsive to her patients. The office staff is rude and unmotivated to help. Some details: Dr. Pena performed invasive, unnecessary tests and I can only assume this was to generate income. (This was a few years back now and each OBGYN I've been to since then can't figure out why she did this stuff.) She is condescending and inarticulate. She could never explain in a succinct way what she was doing or why she was doing it. She scared me enough that I agreed to this testing. Test results were not communicated in a timely manner. I was very nervous about these results because she had convinced my I might have cancer, so I called the office to ask when the information would be available. The office staff could not have been less understanding. They kept asking me over and over what the problem was. Despite being in my Blue Cross Blue Shield network, they sent the lab testing to an out-of-network lab, creating a lot of paperwork, phone calls, and extra expense for me. The office staff in general was always extremely rude. I haven't visited this practice in a few years now and I just got an email advertisement from them for cosmetic laser treatments. They're too cheap to pay for email marketing software and too stupid to use the bcc feature. I now have the names and email addresses of hundreds of her patients. Dr. Pena was extremely professional during all my visits. She took the time to review all of my lengthy medical records, something that various other doctors failed to do. She noticed something in my past bloodwork and urinanalysis results done at different facilities and prescribed medication to effectively treat me. Dr, Pena always takes the time to clearly explain in detail any test results and recommended treatment plans. I am now on a strong road to recovery thanks to Dr. Pena. Oh my I wish I would of read the reviews before going in for my RESULTS! They billed me for my annual results and made me come in for a normal test result without informing me first that I would be billed as an office visit! I tried asking if the test was normal or abnormal BEFORE PAYING AND GOING IN and they wouldn't say but that I had to pay and see the assistant to discuss any treatment if needed making me feel as if something was abnormal. I asked to speak with the Dr regarding this a day or so after I left and staff said "I don't know when she can call you, she's busy with patients." I do not recommend this office to anyone! I have been seeing Dr. Pena since 2012 and most recently just a few weeks ago. Previously I had bounced around from doctor to doctor because I always felt like they were quick to medicate you and move on. Dr. Pena is caring and listens to you. I read the reviews below about her office caring about money and I am sorry to hear of their bad experiences but I have never been given that impression.. Actually I feel like they go out of their way to make sure you are covered under your insurance, quick to call your pharmacy or give you orders for labs, meds etc. Dr. Pena is caring, smart and goes out of her way to not only tell you what may be wrong but educate you about it also. I will never go to another OBGYN again. Choosing doctors is an incredible personal experience and I do believe their style must match yours.. saying that I think that is why people often forget to review doctors and I only really did this because I ran across these reviews while looking for her new address ( which the building is quite lovely ) and felt like someone needed to chime with another review. I've been receiving the excellent help of Dr. Peña for more than 5 years. She is a very special physician : highly intelligent and open to using the best of conventional and functional medicine . And Dr Peña herself is wonderful, she truly goes waaay above and beyond to make sure that we get to the root of the problem and solve it. I came today for the first time ever. I walked in and went straight to the little window where the receptionist attended me. The staff were very friendly and patient. I was a bit nervous after reading all of the negative reviews on here, but am so happy I came to Dr. Pena and not any other gynecologist. I filled out a few paperwork (on a tablet) and got called in to see her quickly afterwards. Dr. Pena was sweet and extremely formative with details. Parking was easy and soon as I walked in the cleanliness and modern atmosphere gave me a sense of ease. The check in was quick with assistance of a little tablet and as soon as I had turned it in, I was seen to check vitals and see the doctor. A doctors office with a wait less than 5 minutes? Haha SCORE! Doctor Cristina is young yet very knowledgeable. She is transparent with her patients and is very thorough with her work; taking the time to explain everything she does and any risks or benefits to any case scenario. This part was important to me since some doctors are usually very one sided and as a patient you trust them and just go with it. These people screwed me over big time!!! Do yourself a favor and find another doctor!! Dr. Pena and her staff are extremely unprofessional and do not care about their patients. I went in March because my implanon (birth control implant) was expiring on April 9th. They saw me and ordered it that day. They said it would take 3weeks max because they needed to go through insurance and pharmacy but that IT WOULD BE COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. 3 weeks later I still hadn't heard from them so I called and they said it was at the pharmacy and they would have it soon. I've been waiting and waiting for their call so today JULY 15 (more than 3 MONTHS since it expired) I called and asked where was my birth control and the woman at the front says "let me call the pharmacy" MY IMPLANON HAS BEEN SITTING AT THE PHARMACY FOR 2 MONTHS BECAUSE THEY NEVER CALLED TO SEND IT!!!! Then she tells me that I have to pay out of pocket because AS OF LAST WEEK THEY DO NOT ACCEPT INSURANCE!! I was supposed to have this procedure done months ago!!!!! Spoke with the supervisor she was no help at all. I wasted 3 months with no birth control and now I have to start the whole process over with a new doctor. Horrible service. read more

She is quite thorough and explains everything in detail. I also like how clean the office is. The location is easy to find and parking is very easy. However, I find it odd that you make an appointment for a specific time but then they tell you you have to be there 20 minutes prior to appointment time. Just give me an appointment time that you want me to come! Another this is I agree with many of these reviews saying it's all about the money here. I feel exactly the same way. I have gone to the office 2 times this year simply to discuss the blood test results, each time I go, I need a copay of $70. So it's been a total of $140 in appointments JUST to discuss results. Well they wanted me to retake the blood test while fasting this time, so I did, they told me to come in again to discuss results AGAIN. I told them I couldn't afford to spend $210 in just this year to just discuss results, I asked if they could work with me and the answer was NO. They will not tell me anything unless I pay another 70 to come in. I truly feel like if they cared and weren't money hungry, they would have understood and called me to talk about results. I did have to wait a few times after my scheduled appointment windows, but after all who wants a doctor who speeds through exams or procedures just to check the boxes? Not I. It's important to remember everyone is a case by case situation and sometimes a little 'extra' time is necessary. What goes around comes around. Awful doctor, awful office staff. Unresponsive and unprofessional. I was prescribed a prenatal vitamin. Her staff assured us that the pharmacy would have the prescription digitally. Of course the pharmacy DID NOT have it. I called for an entire week straight without reaching anyone at the office. No one returned my voice mails. I was getting so desperate I even faxed messages and Facebook messages to no avail. Finally, a week and two days later someone picked up the phone. I told them to have my records ready because I was completely unsatisfied with their lack of response to my needs. What if something was terribly wrong? My medical records were not ready upon arrival during my lunch hour though I specifically requested they be and furthermore the receptionist refused to give them to me until Dr. Pena was available to speak with me. Twenty minutes later Pena comes out and gets VERY defensive and calls me a liar. Then they charged me $10.00 for 5 pages of medical records. It was the worse experience I have had with a medical "professional" and staff in my life. STAY AWAY!!! Seems to be all about the money but even worse. I had a balance due. I called the office to pay it in full with my credit card and they said I would have to pay an additional $10 by phone!!! Whaaaaaaat?? I went in person to pay because I refuse to give her another penny. I asked about a payment plan for a permanent birth control procedure, she said no. Dr. Pena is a phenomenal physician, I moved to Miami 2yrs ago and needed a new OB-gyn I was so blessed to have found her, Dr Pena is young but light years ahead of most physicians in her field. I needed someone who could not only care for my gynecological needs but could treat post menopausal issues such as osteopenia / osteoporosis, thinning hair, lax skin and the advanced age management issues that arise from it. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about the cutting-edge treatments in her field, she combines conventional medicine with hormonal and micro-nutrient testing to give you a clear view of where you are health-wise for your age group to help you stay ahead of possible future genetic health issue. She practices "preventive medicine" of course it is optional due to the fact that preventive medicine is not covered by most if not all heath insurance companies. However that said she will try her very best to use your insurance coverage for most if not all of your regular visits. She is kind and caring as well as very generous with her time, she listens to you and explains everything to you in great detail. Dr Pena's staff is friendly and accommodating as Dr. Pena is very busy and usually booked several weeks in advanced. Because she is so booked, Dr Pena always runs on time (this is a big issue in Miami as every other doctor I have go to runs up to and hour and half late and so do the patients!) however if you do have to wait trust me she is well worth it! I highly recommend Dr Pena to anyone woman who wishes to have a gynecologist that can take you from your pregnancy years into the much more advanced care of pre-post menopausal years and beyond. read more

All of the negative posts on here are 100% accurate. The doctor is money-hungry and borderline unethical. She speaks to you like you are an uneducated five year old and forces you to come into the office when it is completely unnecessary, just so she can bill you/your insurance. Instead of telling you your test results are okay the staff tells you the doctor would like you to come in to discuss the results, only for everything to be fine and causing you to worry for no reason. They also refuse to release a copy of YOUR results to you unless you sign a form stating you're no longer a patient and cancelling all your future appointments...just to receive YOUR OWN results! When I went in for my annual and told the MA I had some questions to ask the doctor she informed me that if I wanted to ask questions the appointment would be a "consultation" instead of an annual and I would not be able to get my pap/check up. Who has ever heard of this?! Not being able to ask your doctor simple questions during an annual? And forcing me to come back two days in a row just to get a regular pap. Unbelievable. And this didn't stop there, any chance she would get she would force me to come in for a ridiculous "consultation" where she would try to convince me to get some kind of expensive testing that was completely unnecessary. At one point they even told me that if I wanted to discuss my results with the doctor over the phone (I live out of town) that insurance would not cover it and I'd have to pay a fee out of pocket...just for her to let me know my test results. If I could give this Dr zero I would!!! I came here as a new patient. I was recommended by friend. I was told by the staff to be there 20 mins before my appointment. My actual appointment was 1:40. Unfortunately I did not make it there by 1:20. I arrived at the office by 1:31 exactly. I checked in and filled out the paperwork. It took me seriously like 5 mins to fill out the paperwork. When I turned in the paperwork I was advised that "It is office POLICY to arrive 20 mins and since I didn't, I would have to wait for the next patient to arrive before their appointment and that they would try to accommodate me I know this sounds so crazy! I didn't stress too much about it because I was the only one in the waiting room. So I figure anytime soon they will bring me in. Negative! A new patient arrived at 2:03 and was filing out her paperwork by 2:06. By 2:12 the staff was calling in the new patient. I was so blown away. I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. So I walked out and left. At 2:34 a staff member called me to see where I was and of course I clearly gave them a piece of my mind. This office is a joke. The same thing happened to me. I went for my pap ... preventative checkup. They charged me for 4 labs due to STD. However, I mentioned if its free with insurance why not. They lied to me. Than for a follow-up to discuss results. $219 visit. I was like how the hell else am I going to get results. I have been going to this Dr for years. They are money hungry. Could it be the amazing office rent she has or parking spaces. Bills are high!! Well now because of this I am getting my records and going else where. Its all about the money to them. I have disputed these bills with my insurance. The funny thing is one of the girls from the office called me and said. The Dr needs you to come in for a follow-up. I was like is everything ok. This is the first Dr office I have been to that they don't give verbal results. Yes you are ok.. no you not come in the office. These people don't care about their patients. This clinic is really ALL about the money. She literally made me come back 3 times after my initial appt. I was fully charged for all these 4 times. The second I went there, she just talked about how she would perform a simple exam that she thought I needed to do it. Third time, exam performed. The fourth time it was only to go over results. Those visits could be resumed in only 2! Not to tell about the unnecessary extra charge they made me pay to perform this exam. Thank God, my insurance is just and made them give it back to me. Also, she frightened me with this diagnosis and made me do extra exams. She got me so WORRIED, so I would always go back and be charged for these unnecessary visits.
