I woke up one morning, completely alarmed because half my tooth was gone. And even worse, it was right in front. I couldn't even smile. My first words, "OMG call Dr. Molinar." He was off at the time, but I called anyway. He answered immediately. I explained what had happened and the first thing he asked was, "Are you in any pain?" I said, "No pain, but it looks terrible and I have a job interview coming up." He saw me immediately. While working on my tooth Dr. Molinar informed me of another tooth that I was about to lose if I didn't take care of it. I kind of knew this already and was avoiding it because I am not to financially steady at this time. He showed me ex-rays of the tooth and a few others that had problems right now that could be taken care of. He explained to me carefully about each tooth and exactly what was happening in great detail. He also said he wanted me to know this now, so I was at least aware and could make informed decisions about the work I needed. He even used model sets and pictures as visuals, which were very helpful. He put absolutely no pressure on me to have work done, but told me what I needed to know about my teeth and how to take better care of them in the future. I know by past experiences how important it is to take care of a problem when it first happens before it gets worse. Dr. Molinar takes precautions with his patients because he doesn't want them to have to wait till they're in pain and end up spending more money. I am so happy that Dr. Molinar worked on five of my teeth, because I know for a fact that if I didn't get a few of these done.(just some light work), that I would lose them in the next year of two. Or at least they would start breaking apart. Thank you Dr. Molinar. You're my hero! It's obvious you truly care about your patients and the lives they lead. Today Dr. Molinar gave me a comprehensive oral cancer screening. I was vastly impressed as no dentist in my 60 plus dental history had ever done anything similar. The most any dentist ever did for oral cancer screening was to run his gloved finger around in my mouth and ask me to stick out my tongue! I found out today what *should* have been done. Dr. Molinar shone a bright light into my mouth and checked carefully everywhere. He gently held my tongue and moved it left, right, up and down checking all sides and underneath it. He then palpated under my jaw and all around my neck and the back of my head, feeling for anything suspicious. Finally, he had me swallow while he held his fingers on my throat so he could check the size of my thyroid gland. All findings (thankfully, all of mine were normal) were dictated to his assistant and noted in my records. And there was no extra charge for the screening as Dr. Molinar told me it is included in the general dental care for all his patients. I find Dr. Molinar to be a very thorough and careful dentist who takes his time to do his work correctly while caring very much for the comfort and health of his patients. I have been seeing Dr. Molinar since about 2007. I've been through different jobs, lived in different towns... but through my insurance, always managed to find my way back to Dr. Molinar if I felt I needed to have some dental work done. Of course, I know of a couple existing issues, but who has time or money, to fix everything in their mouth just because it's needed. I wish I did! I never thought to write a review for Dr. Molinar until after a conversation I had with my husband on Saturday night (10/12/13)! In early 2012, at the suggestion of my husband, I found a dentist locally (Poway) and went to him for an exam, x-rays, and a little bit of dental work. For reasons I don't wish to discuss, he rubbed me the wrong way, professionally. I decided to go back to Dr. Molinar & have a fresh exam done, get his opinion about my teeth, & start over. I'd been to a couple appointments (this time around) before I tried to make appointments for my kids & husband. He's about a 45 minute drive from me. They're not open weekends, but because I'm so far away, he & his dental assistant accommodated my family by working it out so we could come in on a Saturday. One by one, he worked on me, & did thorough exams on my husband & two daughters. It's a great start to getting their dental needs met... and MUCH appreciated! After our appointments were over, we left, went to the mall & did a little shopping, and got some lunch... then we all went home. After the kids went to bed that night, my husband and I were sitting on the couch watching TV & he paused it & said, "You know, I want to tell you something." He told me something he'd never said before... he said that it bothered him so much that I HAD to go all the way to Carlsbad to get my teeth worked on. It's such a drive, we have good insurance, there are plenty of dentists in Poway, or surrounding areas... he didn't understand why I had to go through all that to go see Dr. Molinar. He said, "After today... I totally get it!" He told me that he got up with the girls, he was stressed out, pressed for time, had to drive all that way (grumbling about it), had to fill out the dental paperwork (which I did 99.9% of!)... and it was all just to get in a chair to have his teeth looked at! He said that when he got in the chair & Dr. Molinar started talking to him, he started feeling better. He said that by the time we left, "that guy turned my day around!" We spent 1/2 hour talking about our trip to the dentist! My husband was just astonished at how he felt before vs. how he feels now. I love it! It's awesome for ME that my husband sees what I do in my choice of a dentist, and can tell me, "Now I get it!" Dr. Molinar explains everything, every step of the way... leaves nothing for interpretation. He gives you facts & information about why & how to do things... explains possibilities for the reasoning behind scenarios so that you're better able to understand what may be causing them... and with my 4 person family, we all have different needs & dental situations, so we need all the information we can get! If you're the type of person that doesn't want to get stuck on a "dental conveyor belt," you feel the need to understand what's going on, & you want to deal with someone that you can trust... My family and I have been going to Dr. Molinar's office for over 15 years and love it. He has been treating both my girls since they were 2 and 3. He is extremely gentle and patient with them and I have never heard them complain about visits to his office. His office staff is always friendly and I have never had a problem with my billing. Dr. Molinar has been a wonderful dentist! He and his staff are very thorough. On my first visit I was given a reminder call the day before to confirm my appointment. Once I arrived they had paperwork for me to fill out and then I was promptly taken back to get the work started. Unfortunately, a broken tooth was what brought me in. It was determined that I needed a crown for the tooth so he prepped me and got a temporary done that same day. The next week I went back for my permanent crown. All was well and I went back for my cleaning and exam within a month. It was noted that the crown was preventing me from properly flossing so they fixed it! That was awesome. Dr. Molinar stands behind his work and is a truly great dentist. His staff is kind and friendly and they treat you with respect. Need a filling? Too scared because you don't want a shot or to get numb?? Air abrasion is the way to go! I had my first session last week with Dr. M and it was painless! I literally had sand blasted into my mouth. Yes, I said sand. White grainy sand like from the beaches in Hawaii. I've been going to Dr. Molinar for about 2 yrs now and I think that he does good work. He seems like a bit of a perfectionist which is why some people may think that he recommends things that don't need to be done. I think he likes to catch things early. That being said, he did recommend that I have some crowns replaced which I did not think I needed. I talked with a friend who is in the same field and she said that decay can happen under existing crowns, and that they typically last about 10 yrs so I did get them replaced. The only thing I find a bit annoying is when the office assistants call me with a reminder call, they always want me to call back and confirm. You should only have to call back if you can't make the appointment. I find this to be REALLY annoying! read more

I never realized the value of an honest dentist until I started seeing new dentist that overcharged my by hundreds for procedures that were covered. Dr. Molinar was always honest with me and I never had any issues whatsoever. Now, I am out searching for a good dentist and I wish I could go back to Dr. Molinar. His office was always kind and professional. I would highly recommend him to anyone and go back if my insurance covered his office. I never even sat down in the waiting room because they brought me right back to address the extreme pain I was in. Right from the get go the friendliness factor was awesome. They put me at ease. Not even kidding - best dental office I've ever been to, hands down. A front desk person/scheduler can make a big difference - and his person is an absolute gem! She squeezed me in and made it work, squeezed my daughter in too. Every member of his staff is polite, professional and courteous. Dr. Molinar himself is a kick! Here is my experience. You decide if you want to give him a try... I made an appointment with Dr. Molinar because he is in my neighborhood and took my insurance. I hadn't been to the dentist in AT LEAST 5 years and although I had no pain in my mouth, I knew it was time to go in. About one week before my appointment, i found out I was pregnant. I called the office to let them know I could not have x-rays done and they said no problem - just come in and he can do a physical exam and cleaning. There was some scheduling strangeness that caused an awkward delay between my cleaning and exam (a very sweet, but nervous assistant was sent in to chat with me while I waited). It was all going rather well, despite the scheduling mishap. They were really trying to be accommodating. Here's where it gets interesting... Dr. Molinar told me that when the pointy tool sticks in my teeth, that means there is decay and I have a cavity. He filled out a paper that showed I needed over 10 fillings! (Stupid me - I forgot to save all the paperwork on it so I don't have exact numbers). Either way, It was a lot of work needing to be done. They said my insurance didn't cover it (it didn't), but they would honor the pricing and give me a good deal. It was somewhere around $1,000 worth of work (again - silly me for not saving the papers! I remember it being more than $1,000 total). They said I could have it done 1-3 teeth at a time to break up the payments. So - here I am newly pregnant and needing a lot of cavities filled for what to me is a LOT of money. Stressful! I told my boyfriend and he wisely told me to get a second opinion. I went to see Dr. Paul Rappaport (I highly recommend him - great office, great staff, great dentist) who said that I should wait to have any work done. He said it was not possible to tell for sure if I have cavities without an x-ray and that he could not see anything that would justify having work done immediately. He said to come in for extra cleanings while pregnant (I guess that's standard for pregnancy - it can mess with your teeth), but otherwise to hold off until after the baby arrived. What a relief! Thanks, Dr. Rappaport! (By the way - I did not even mention what Dr. Molinar had recommended until AFTER Dr. Rappaport's assesment - and even then only mentioned it in passing without using his name). I decided to just let well enough alone and not say anything about Molinar. I had plenty of other things on my mind. Sad to say, I had a miscarriage shortly after the appointment. I had a card for free x-rays and exam at Packard Dental and since I am pretty broke, I decided to go there instead of Dr. Rappaport who had a fee (I still recommend him, though!) SO- went to Packard (lovely office and staff) and got my exam and x-rays. My x-rays showed ZERO cavities! Not a single one! They said I might want one more cleaning soon and that I might want to get a Night Guard for my teeth grinding at night, but otherwise was fine. Draw your own conclusions about Dr. Molinar based on my review. Perhaps he was just being more aggressive with his diagnosis? Making the best call he could without the x-rays? I hope that it was just a mistake and that he would not intentionally try to scam a pregnant women... Moral of the story: ALWAYS get a second opinion! P.S. - I really didn't want to post this, but I want possible patients of his to be informed before making a decision to see him. If you do decide to see him and he says you need work done - GET A SECOND OPINION! read more

The office manager was extremely misleading towards what my final bill was. I was told that I owed a certain amount and that my insurance company would pay the rest. Less than a month later, I was sent a bill for 400.00. They said that what I paid up front was only a proposal. The office manager lead me to believe what I paid in the office was my final bill. I was shocked and felt scammed. I explained this to her and she expressed no remorse what so ever and wanted her payment. Dr. Molinar has terrible ethics in his business practices. I did not like this dentists. He charged me $50 for canceling a cleaning apt with more than 24 hours notice. Tells inappropriate jokes and stories while his hands are in your mouth. Stay away. We switched to Dr Bell and have been very happy. read more

Dr. Molinar is such an amazing dentist. My family and I have been coming to his office for years now. He is honest, trustworthy, and reliable. The office is always clean!
