Best haircut of my life. AND best haircut experience of my life too! Let's start with the experience... Christopher's is located on an adorable tree-lined street in Tiburon. It's actually right next to two wine shops and apparently customers often bring in a glass of wine to enjoy while they have their hair styled and colored. I will definitely remember to take part in this special luxury next time! The salon is small, comfy, living-room-like, and nautical themed. I loved feeling like I was in the living room of a beach house while being pampered! I changed out of my fleece into the special robe in the dressing room and managed to leave without a single cut piece of hair on me. The hair wash and scalp massage were next followed by a masterful cut by Lindsay LaBonte. She also blow dried my hair like a pro and I left feeling like a million bucks. The two other stylists/colorists and the receptionist were also incredibly sweet and I was a bit bummed to have to leave... it would have been nice to have stayed and enjoyed a glass of wine with them! read more

From the initial phone call to set up the appointment to the precautions at the door, during the haircut, and even checking out, it was clear how seriously and thoroughly CS takes the health of their guests and team. I felt totally safe and confident in their new modus operandi. Even showing up with wet hair, half my face covered, home-cut fringe & 10 months of growth (which makes for a stylistic mystery/ nightmare) Yanet managed to craft a truly stunning style for me, and my hair looks almost embarrassingly good. My first family reunion in 10 years and I wanted to feel great. Just moved back to Marin and thought since I'm in town I'll check out this highly rated salon. Julie did my hair color. She was nice in a lot of ways but at the end she passed me off to someone else to finish the styling. Neither did what I thought I had spent an hour explaining. I asked to be blowdried straight with gentle waves ; they made it bushy. I would've thought being my first time there they would've taken a little extra care. They definitely weren't dedicated to clients leaving completely happy. Not Julie, not her assistant, & not the owner. I left feeling like I truly cannot count on anyone there. I've had extremely good fortune with hairdressers on both coasts, New York, Paris, Maui, and hairdresser schools as well. It's like Grand Central Station at Christopher's. I prefer a calmer salon with helpful people so I can chill. I thought that was what I was paying for. I hadn't had a reaction to dye in over 10 years. Fortunately it only lasted a couple minutes and doesn't seem to be a problem. Julie did have my hair washed for the special calming treatment solution or something that was a precaution so I did appreciate that. But Julie was more concerned about a previous client who was coming back in to get a change. I thought they could just ask that client coming back, to wait only 15 more minutes later, but Julie felt like she had to leave me to take care of that client. I really wanted to like this salon since I'm living here again, and it seemed to be the only salon in town worth going to. But Julie is the colorist and the owner is the haircutter. Mill Valley's not that far away. On top of not being able to get a simple style that I had described in great detail, the inflexibility of 15 minutes, the inability to show any consideration, and the indifference to my concerns make it impossible to recommend the salon. Absolutely amazing! Everything I was hoping for from this experience. I've been searching for months for a good stylist in Marin to no avail. Turns out the best one was just down the street the whole time. This place is clean, chic and friendly which is a hard balance to pull off. Had a great cut from Cori. She's friendly, pretty and great at what she does! Such a calm environment and great decor. If you go, leave some time at the end to peruse the cute store area in the front because it has some luxury products that are not to be missed. Whoever stocks those shelves has very good taste. Credit where credit is due. I am reading a review by Hillary H and I must respond publicly as I was shopping there that day and was in proximity to this episode. I am a colorist from NYC and have worked and delt as such for 40 years. I mention it only because there are limitations to what any expert can produce for you. It is a professional who will advise you that your request is unachievable. It is a professional who will give you the reality of what's safe and obtainable for your particular situation. A professional may upset your dreams; of the hair you want, but they will never destroy your hair to try and satisify your uninformed desire. It is their responsibility to be truthful and guide you away from a look or color that is not suitable of safe to create for you. This is what took place that day. The owner was intervening to maintain the peaceful atmosphere of his salon. There were other client's present and subjected to a rather selfish display of an individual not being given what they wanted - for their own good. As a client or potential client you should be grateful for their honesty-which in fact subtracted from what they earned that day. During a pandemic where money is precious, many would have taken your business and disserviced you. I felt this was a misleading review by Hillary H and during such an unprecidented time of pandemic where small business owners put everything they have into keeping their doors open, and offering service, this is an unjust assesment of what happened there that day. I was a fly on the wall- but an educated one in the service industry and the hair salon business - Christopher and his team handeled this unruly situation with aplomb. Highly skilled, talented and brave people are working everyday to be safe, be honest and do the right thing, this salon is a supreme example of this. I just had the most odd and uncomfortable experience. I was referred to Christopher's salon by someone I'd met. I went in for a first visit haircut with Christopher and brought with me a range of photos. I had been contemplating cutting my hair short for some time but thought perhaps a gradual approach might be less extreme. I brought four pictures - one each of varying length - to get Christopher's opinion based on my hair texture and face structure and needs. It was the most bizarre conversation in which I can only imagine that there must have been a misunderstanding or he misheard me. Ultimately, I don't even know what transpired but I left with him stating that he didn't think I was ready for a haircut and he didn't think he could make me happy. At first I was irritated that the appt seemed to be a waste of time and that I didn't find a new stylist in my new neighborhood. But, then I happened to book an appt with Karen at Magnolia salon in Larkspur who cut off eight inches and gave me the best haircut of my life. So all in all... Cristopher was right. He wasn't the right stylist for me, at least certainly personality wise, and I ended up exactly where I was meant to be. There were many other ways that Cristopher could have approached me -- say with curiosity and openness and he didn't. Instead he met me with unquestioned assumptions and projections. I offer this feedback as it seems that while he cuts beautifully others have noted issues around how they have been spoken to and treated which warrant consideration. This will certainly go down as the oddest of experiences with a hair dresser. read more

This is a splurge for me and worth it. I got off to a rough start on my first visit but was happy with my hair so tried it again, and again and again. Christopher, the owner, is warm, personable and professional and this transcends to his staff. He seems to really care and runs a top notch operation. He's also is a talented hairstylist and is too much of a splurge for me but stepped in to cut my hair when my scheduled stylist fell through (lucky me). Julie does my color and the results look natural and beautiful. Corey cut my hair for the first time on this visit and I just love the results. These people know what they are doing. I LOVE Christopher! He's charming, friendly, has a great sense of style and design, and most importantly, will honestly tell you what will look best on you. The first time I went to him, I thought the cut was great, but then I didn't go back as I was too lazy to make the drive out to Tiburon again. After getting my hair cut at other establishments, I appreciated Christopher even more as I remembered how my style grew out effortlessly, even with my short hair. I've since decided to become a loyal Christopher follower as the drive is absolutely worth it. I feel better knowing I'm in good hands and I constantly get complements about my cut. In fact, I was invited to be on NBC's new show, "Trauma", and the hair-and-makeup stylist even asked me who cut my hair (even though it had been weeks since my last cut and I was about to see Christopher again the next day). Sonia is also a great colorist. The products they use are pricey, so do be sure to check the cost on the website so you aren't unpleasantly surprised. However, you won't end up smelling like ammonia and your hair won't suffer from harsh chemicals with the line they use. Highly recommended. read more

I have curly/wavy hair - do you have any idea how hard it is to find a stylist who REALLY knows how to work with curly/wavy hair? Most of the time they just treat it like straight hair and end up frustrated when your hair looks uneven after they cut it using traditional "straight hair" methods. Usually they want to give you a cut and style suited to straight hair and try to dry it out straight as well. Stylists often treat it as a "challenge" to work around rather than a feature to take advantage of when creating a style. Not Christopher - he really gets it and rather than try to suppress my curls, he cuts my hair in such a way as to emphasize them. Not only is this refreshing, but it also produces the BEST HAIRCUT I'VE EVER HAD! My husband even noticed the difference and commented that my hair looks the best he's ever seen it. Christopher actually does that "haircut to match your face and lifestyle" thing! I've always heard about it, asked for it, but have never received it until now. The colorist Sonja is also incredible. I've been stuck with a full, all-over color for years, as most stylists say you can't grow out your hair after a full head of color without showing some ugly lines and areas of new growth. Well so much for that! Christopher and Sonja worked out a plan to give me varied highlights and low lights that only need retouching about quarterly while I grow out the color. The goal is to return to my natural color and some highlights to cover the gray peeking out here and there. I'm mid-way through this process and my hair looks completely natural, no ugly "growing out" spots, and I get positive comments all the time on my nice hair. Yes, Christopher's is expensive - but very worth it. His cut is not much more than a great meal for two at a nice restaurant or a pair of great shoes so don't be cheap - Get a great cut and style! read more

I have been coming to Christopher Salon for about two years now and absolutely love it. On my very first appointment with Julie (colorist), she told me that she didn't want to settle for anything less than me absolutely loving my color. I had never had a colorist say that to me before and to be honest, I had never really loved my color before. I now love my color! The atmosphere is also so relaxing as it is in a beautiful environment and since there are only 6 chairs, it is always very calm and quiet in the salon unlike other salons I've been to where I feel like I'm going through a factory line. The salon is super cute. I went for my friends wedding to get my hair styled. When making the apt I asked if the blow dry would work for a half up half down hairdo. They said yes. Unfortunately when I went to pay they charged me quite a bit more. I would have chosen the services of a more experience stylist if I knew the price difference was only 30 dollars. My hair is generally cute but pretty sure it will fall out by the wedding tonight. Everyone was nice though... overall ok. But need to work on the communication when booking. read more

I just moved here and have been looking around for someone to do my color, as I am super picky about my hair. A friend with amazing hair told me she loves this place, so I booked an appointment with Julie for a full head of highlights. Julie was absolutely perfect and I am in LOVE with my color. She gave me a very relaxed consultation at the beginning where we talked about what I like & don't, and then she made some recommendations. She did an amazing job and I have gotten nothing but compliments since. Also, my other favorite thing was that she is really fast! This review is shamefully overdue. When I moved to Tiburon years ago I needed a salon and tried this place by chance. I'm so glad I did! I have been seeing Juli for color and Christopher for haircuts, and honestly would never go anywhere else. Not only are they experts in what they do, but they are genuinely wonderful people, as well. I've never once felt pressured to buy a product or try any color or style with which I'm not comfortable. The salon ambiance is fantastic and I feel like a million bucks every time I leave. Christophers is a great experience! I went in after asking all around to local women "where do you get your hair done" and got his name as reference. I" liked" the cut. We were conservative and maybe that was a bit of my let down. I wanted change. Maybe I didn't voice that strong enough, maybe he wanted to hand-hold our first meeting. So, I ventured on. And I got the WORST haircut of my life, along with over processing in my color and found myself back in Christophers chair begging for a fix. This time, without hesitation, he became Edward Scissor-Hands. BUT, respected my length in my past style. He miraculously took my hair from distressed to fabulous. And it's enough of a change that if I need more change, well, I can't doubt that he will steer me in the right direction next time. Yes, very pricey. After going here now for over 2 years, I can let you know that the quality is consistent with haircuts from Christopher. So many places I have been to in the past maybe cut the hair wonderfully the first time, but the second or third time, they didn't do as well. I have no idea why that is, but Christopher is not that way. Besides this, his perfect customer service and charm for the more than two years of monthly haircuts has also been the same. Lots of great reviews on Next Door, but I called for an appointment with a specific hair stylist, was told there was an opening at 9:30AM, asked if it could be at 10AM, was told that 10AM wouldn't work because the stylist had a 10AM appointment. That left a half hour to shampoo and style. Seemed a bit hurried compared to my last 100 haircut appointments elsewhere, so I thanked and hung up. read more

I visited Christopher salon to do a bit of gift shopping while visiting friends in Tiburon. They had a very nice selection of high end goods and body products. What wasn't very nice was the fact that I was basically the only shopper in the store but was being followed around. It was incredibly off-putting. This wasn't an attempt at good customer service. Maybe they thought I didn't fit the "demographic" that this salon is used to but the whole experience proved unpleasant. I can't speak to their ability to do hair but I can tell you they're not friendly. Checking in for an update and new perspective with a stellar professional is just the thing to invigorate your appearance. After a consult, cut, color, and styling I was euphoric. His approach is architectural, he pays attention to the shape of your face, the texture of your hair, and then builds a framework that enhances the whole. Just as importantly, the men in my life, at home and at work noticed the results. That is uncommon, men don't generally notice your hair. I made a hair color appointment at Christopher salon in tiburon for baliage highlights. This was the first time I was using this salon for hair color, though I'd had hair cuts & blow drys previously and was happy. The salon technician I was put with, without consultation, informed me that she could not "achieve" my desired results. She also didn't know the other highlighting technique of using foils. The owner & namesake Christopher, was then brought into the conversation. He was incredibly unprofessional in his handling of me - dismissive, forceful & exhibited no sense of remorse that his hairstylist couldn't perform either highlighting technique on me. Christopher told me I needed to leave. Just like that. The rudeness was unparalleled. I was not being argumentative or uncooperative. I had waited several weeks for the appointment. I wasn't even upset (though surprised) that a professional salon like this would employ a stylist who couldn't perform highlights & then he placed with her. That aside, Christopher & staff made no effort to make up for their inability to perform any service on me. Did not offer another stylist, another service or even an apology. It was highly unprofessional and totally uncalled for. Christopher salon is a very expensive place to get your hair done. I'd highly encourage you to take your business elsewhere if only for more humane treatment. Incidentally I put a similar review on Facebook and got dozens of responses from people who've had similar experiences at Christopher salon and treatment by Christopher himself. Siah was amazing! She did a fantastic job with my bridal make up. I am not a big fan of overly caked on make up and was looking for a simple and more natural looking look. Siah listened to to everything I requested for and achieved a look far better than I anticipated. I was concerned because my left eye is noticeably smaller than my right and expressed my concerns to her. She even altered my false lashes to give off the impression of even symmetrical eyes! At the trial, Cori took lots of time to make sure we had the look we wanted and she was great about telling me exactly what hair accessories I would need to bring the day of to achieve the final look we wanted. On the wedding day I could not have been happier with the final style. It was this amazing updo that stayed all night long and looked fantastic in photos. I only knocked a star because the price is a little high compared to some other hair salons. But the final product was definitely great! read more

The single star is for the lovely shop environment. The salon is very overpriced and offers poor to mediocre services at best. I've had my hair trimmed by Christopher several times. I gave him another chance and then another, just hoping that my experience would improve since I did like the small shop atmosphere and it was so very convenient. and Christopher seemed to be a pleasant guy. (I got sick if waiting for my next trip to Los Angeles or New York to get a decent hair cut). Each time, my cut was far from a precision cut I have grown accustomed to. And I asked for my hair to be blown and flat ironed straight. My hair was dried with billowy waves and I had to go home and redo it to my liking, despite my protests in the salon. He knows best? I thought that the customer does! My final try (3rd) I needed a tint before a major trip. I specifically expressed concerns about my hair color being too dark. I stated exactly what I wanted. And to my horror, the colorist made my hair so dark I looked like i was made up for Halloween! I actually cried. And they all said ooh and aah your color is gorgeous! I told them how unhappy I was. And they just insisted that they knew better and I looked great. I paid and never went back. If you are a woman of the world, BEWARE! read more

I went here for about one year for keratin and haircuts. The salon is certainly beautiful and clean. No complaints here about the aesthetics of the salon. I have decided to take my business elsewhere, though. Here's why. 1) I encountered a number of difficulties with scheduling apts. I would call and make an appointment, and then receive a half dozen phone calls from the salon about an appointment that I made. Was I sure I wanted to see so-and-so? Could I change my time? Etc. Lots of wasted time fielding phone calls for hair appointments on more than one occasion. Most of us do not have time for this level of disorganization. 2) I don't know if the majority of their stylists are shy, unfriendly, having bad days, or stuck up. I am sure that they are nice people in their private lives, but this is not what I would call a welcoming environment. No need to sit in this atmosphere for 3 hours at a time. 3) They don't take their time. Keratin treatments are rushed. Haircuts are very rushed (I think Supercuts would be more thorough). On the last haircut, she must have finished in less than 10 minutes (perhaps 5)-- and it was not even. It was definitely crooked, and I was not comfortable saying anything at the time. I am generally quite vocal, so this should tell you more about the atmosphere. I did get another trim later (at another salon) and they did confirm that the cut was uneven. If I am going to spent $600-700 for a hair apt, I expect much better service. Going some place that can't track my appointments, is unwelcoming and cold, and does rushed/sloppy work, DOES NOT warrant their current rates. I'm sure this is a great fit for some, but I have found a much better salon, better service, and better rates in another part of town. read more

The atmosphere is great but the entire experience is ruined by them hawking no less than 5 products while getting my hair processed. Also I made an appointment for a single process and she refused to pull the color through my hair (only willing to do my roots), BUT she was willing to pull a glaze through the ends and didn't tell me it was an extra $40. I don't mind spending $155 on my single process root job, but it felt like I was being handled by a used car salesman.
