I was trying to avoid posting this but Maddox Roofing filed a lien requesting money on my home for…read moreuncompleted work. His contract stated that he would be paid half up front and the rest when the job was completed. All pictures are from August 15/16 of 2019. In an effort to try to help out a local company that had done roofing work for me in the past on my old home, I asked them if he could build a deck for us...he stated he could and came out to give me a quote and I paid the initial fee on June 25...he stated he could do the job in about 2 weeks. Now mind you I had no idea of the time frame for such a job...so I agreed with him. He said he would start July 8th...but then he got sick with the flu. So he didn't start at that time. He and another gentleman dropped off materials on July 18 and returned on July 19 to begin the job. They left that day and returned on the following Monday to frame the deck. Every time I asked him when they would return, he stated that he did not want to rush these types of jobs. The contract stated that we had 3 days to cancel...unfortunately that was June 28th. He would continuously not show up, not tell us when he was showing up...do work at nights. I even asked him to not work at night and he and his pregnant wife still came out to work in the evenings. Every delay was due to his wife's baby appointments or traffic. One weekend he didn't even contact us after telling my wife they would be back the next day...then on the next Saturday, while we are out eating he calls and says he is there to work, which was two days after he was supposed to return. He stated that he had a stroke on that Thursday and on Friday he was spending time with his daughter but failed to call us to let us know. On August 11 he and his wife argued with me and my wife where he stated that I was being a bad customer because I was not showing any concern for the fact that he had a stroke weeks ago...and always complaining about the time frame and issues we see with the deck. He also accused us of not wanting to pay him his money. Not one time did we ever mention money. The only thing we did was complain about issues we saw with the deck. The last time we saw them was on Monday, August 12 in the evening, leaving my home...and he did not even say he was done working. Nor did he contact me to say when he would be back... On August 15 the deck was still unfinished so I sent him a text stating that a month had passed on this job and that we wanted him to cease working on the deck and to pick up his equipment and any materials. We would be out of town to move our child into college and did not want them working through the weekend without us there. He and another gentleman came to pick up the items on Friday August 16 in the evening, did not say anything to me and just left as they had done multiple times in the past few weeks. The next week I learned from the city that he wasn't registered with the City of Cibolo and also did not pull a permit to do the work. I contacted another company who came out, pulled permits, got inspections, demolished the work that was there and rebuilt the deck to City code the way we had envisioned for over $2,000 less than Maddox had quoted us.

I am not surprised the roofing reps circulate storm-damaged neighborhoods. It's no different than trial attorneys reaching out to accident victims. It's a marketing practice. The former chases storms, whereas the latter chases ambulances. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Then I met Jody, a new rep they recently hired. Since I normally don't even talk to door-to-door reps, I usually politely dismiss them without appearing too grumpy. However, he convinced me to at least consider the possibility of scheduling an appointment because part of the inspection included looking for collateral damage. Ryan, the owner, came out and impressed me with his knowledgeable and professional approach. He showed me how my previous roofer made some shortcuts by not completely removing the underlayment. He also found a damaged chimney, a broken window, and screens, and two garage doors. After researching some of the reviews, and seeing that they're local, I contracted with this company, who in turn subcontracted the chimney rebuild, and garage doors. Ryan asked for no money up front when I signed the contract. It went exactly as Ryan said it would; we would settle up when the work was done. We settled today as the Schilling Overhead Doors installed the new doors (I paid extra for the upgraded doors and new motors, which was totally worth it). He said I made it easy because I provided all of the estimates, including supplementals when my adjuster made it available. He worked with my adjuster to document the additional damage, so that my adjuster would approve the supplemental. They installed the roof in less than one day. They run like a well-oiled machine and choose only the best tradesmen as their subcontractors. I highly recommend this company and will do business with them as the need arises.

Nice quality on the cabinets, however, the cabinets were made about 3/4" short of the old ones requiring new baseboards. I searched and sourced these on my own, but asked they paint them as they were already doing touch-up from other damage during installation. They refused, and what really soured it for me was the owner saying "well you approved the drawings!" (Whose dimensions did not include a gap). So for lack of a couple of feet of paint I will not be using them for the bulk of our project. As intended, I found out the character and the willingness to correct mistakes of the operation before getting in too deep. Onward to someone who stands behind their work and understands the importance of ownership of problems. Sadly, I would not recommend them until they figure this out.

We submitted pictures of how he left our kitchen and bathrooms plus a 37 page forensic report listing the serious below industry standard work. We hired a Forensic Tile Specialist to come in to assess prior to filing suit to be fair to all parties involved. We knew work was bad however what was found truly reflected what we already knew-his "work" was a complete tear out and redo. His new positive reviews were an act of desperation as his court date neared. If this man has left you with incomplete, below standard work, don't be scared to stand up for yourself. We are thrilled justice was fairly served. We hired Luis who owns River City Fabricators in April to replace our countertops in the kitchen and two bathrooms plus replace our kitchen and bathroom backsplash. He told us 3 days to complete. It took 9 and job was not completed. He showed up late everyday but day one. Always left mid day for at least two hours. He asked for a draw a few days in which was not in the contract. We are nice people so we gave him a check. The day after he "finished", we went out of the country. As soon as we returned, we reached out with quite a list of corrections and damage repair that needed to be done. We even brought in a very experienced contractor to get his feedback on the work. He said it was a tear out and redo, the work was way below industry standard. Backsplash looks like a drunk toddler installed it. Very visible seams in countertops with an island piece measured and cut wrong. Big chip in quartz made by his worker. Damaged our marble in primary bathroom. Smeared grout and sealant on walls. Damaged our cabinets and walls. We have given Luis 7 months to make this right. Originally, he agreed to correct his botched work and fix things that looked bad. 7 months have gone by and we get nothing but dates he doesn't show up and excuses. He is very rude to me in communication. Our money was wasted on this. No value to work. Asked me to make a list of what he needed to fix so we can sign it and move forward. Now he refuses because he knows he is in the wrong. He emailed me today saying it's just a few crooked tiles, that's it. He is not happy we are calling him out on his terrible work. We don't know how he is in business and beg anyone considering hiring him to RUN!
