I used to be very familiar with this establishment when it was Henry J's. I thought I'd give it a try under the new ownership and new name. We went on a Sunday evening and there was a wait. The dining room is SMALL, but well organized. The wait staff was pleasant and accommodating. Our food arrived promptly and was cooked to our specification. As far as the quality of the food, it was good, just not life changing. I had the boneless chicken breast and it was delicious, the wings were very good also! I will go again! Came in here after an apple picking trip with the wife, baby, and mother....we all loved it. First off, the cheese board is a great value...soooo much cheese for the price, and they were GOOD cheeses too, yum. I had the duck cheesesteak, super delicious. Wife had the chimichurri burger...excellent quality beef, perfectly cooked and the bun was awesome(Ciabatta I believe). Everyone who has told us this place is a gem in the rocks, they are right. Who would have thought such a great place would be in the middle of a strip mall in Chester, NY. My BF and I came her a couple of weeks ago for something quick to eat. It was about 7:30 at night (on a Saturday) so we didn't think it was going to be a problem getting in...wrong. We had to wait for almost an hour to get seated...that was how packed the place is. The place itself nothing to outstanding - the decor is nice but average, but the food defiantly above average. We started off with the cheddar grits with shrimp. Honestly, I really didn't want it, but I knew my BF did so I agreed to ordering it. I took one bite to show that I was being a "team player" and was hooked. I wasn't a fan of the sausage, but I really like the cheddar grits and shrimp. It has such a bright bold flavor, I kept digging my fork in for more. For dinner I had the apple and brie sandwich with fries on the side. Another delicious dish. Even though I was stuffed half way into my meal, I forced myself to finish my plate, fries and everything. Absolutely love this place. We usually have lunch and the ahi sandwich and garlic veggies are my favorite. The wait staff is friendly and responsive. When they did mess up a meal , all restaurants do at some point, they fixed it and were very apologetic. Only had dinner there once but it was good. This is a friendly family atmosphere. It's a little loud but it's because it's packed. Everyone, is enjoys some of the best entree's I have had. The Christopher Chicken with Demi glaze is to die for. Don't be deterred by the strip mall entrance. As soon as you enter, you are in a cozy dining room filled with the aroma of a fine bistro! We enjoyed stellar service from a caring waitstaff. Plates were picture perfect as well a perfectly portioned. My wife & I shared the siracha honey wings which were plump & pleasureful; the skin was not crispy when we asked for well done. My scallop & shrimp entree was seasoned to perfection along with the accompanied spinach while the rice tasted bland & sadly not fresh. Definitely a hidden gem! Located at a strip mall. The place from the outside is very unassuming, but the food is amazing! It's become our to go to place for years now. The menu has a great variety of selection for someone who has a discerning taste to someone who has an insatiable palate. Everything that I've had from there it's just delicious. Some of my favorites; salmon entree, chimichurri burger, Mediterranean pasta (which comes in either half size or full size), buffalo wings (excellent) & apple Brie and spinach panini. As much as I've been wanting to try something new, I'm always drawn to ordering the same thing, just because it's that good! The restaurant itself is cozy. If you're planning on going on the weekends or anytime really when people are off (holidays), make sure to call for a reservation. It gets really packed and busy. They have a nice selection of craft beers on tap. I love the fact that they use a lot of local breweries and farms around the area. You can definitely tell the freshness of the food. They now have a catering room separate from the restaurant. We had our company party this past holiday and the service is exceptional. Without a doubt, this HAS to be the BEST restaurant located anywhere north of NYC. I am very picky when it comes to food, drink, ambiance and especially service. Service: Outstanding. They make you feel like a king or queen. I had a few people helping out at our table of 4, and each one was friendly and inquiring how we were without that annoying 'lurking' effect many restaurants are known for. Awesome staff! Beer: First of all, like one commenter said, yes there is a beer store close by, but who wants to grab a 12 pack of Budweiser or Heineken when you can get a rotating craft beer? Since this is my first experience and beer was the only drink I had, I will be adding more to this list since I will be returning. I had an IPA from the Bronx --- DELICIOUS. Food: I had the crab cakes. Let me just say that my dad used to own part of the South Street Seaport - I was born and raised on homemade seafood. This was beyond anything I've ever had in a restaurant. When I complimented the waitress, she said that everything was made from scratch. Nothing like homemade crab cakes. I also had little neck steamers. Usually, most restaurants make them tough and chewy. These just melted in your mouth and had such an 'ocean flavor' to them. To. die. for. Their calamari? --- Can I just say -- these people GOT IT RIGHT! There is a special way of cooking calamari to which NO restaurant that I know around this area at least, knows how to do. They also melted in your mouth with a light battering to them. They were cooked to perfection. I even enjoyed their spicy buffalo wings. (Yes we had a huge table of appetizers floating around.) These wings were the BEST ever. And may I add, they were huge! The second time I went there, I had the cajun frog legs. LET me just SAY that nobody -- NOBODY can make frog legs right, no less have them in stock! The BEST I have ever had! OMG! Lastly, their burgers ---- GRASS FED, 80/20 for those who are on the Paleo or "cleaning eating" lifestyle. I never order it medium rare --- this time, WOW. This place is just unreal. Ambience: Elegant, bistro-ish with a hint of a "pub-ish" feel to it, enough to make you feel like staying there way past your bedtime! The bar is amazing. Must have been cherry wood - but it extended from the front door to almost the back of the place. The chairs are super comfy, no cheap stools. I always prefer to sit at a bar with comfortable seating. Makes all the difference. The interior of the entire place/restaurant was very cozy, wasn't overcrowding and inviting. Price: A bit on the expensive side, but SO worth it. If you're going to spend your money on food and drink -- this is the place to invest in your cravings. It's more continental/American with a little edge to it. I'm making this place my regular stop. I haven't had such a great experience like this in a very long time. I have been to NYC restaurants, to restaurants out on the ocean, like the Hamptons and Boston area --- this just bypasses all. My family and I are frequent customers on the weekend. The food is very good but pricey and small potions for the area. I enjoy ordering the roast duck. This meal comes with risotto and steamed vegetables. I always ask to substitute the risotto with mash potatoes. I always get push back from the staff and given the same story all the time that the meals are counted in advance and there is not enough simple mashed potatoes. After pushing back and owner has made supposedly exceptions for me. I offer to pay extra for them as a side or even call ahead to request it. You must be kidding me; I'm embarrassed for the owners. I was there again last Saturday night and was told no to the mashed potatoes and had to change my order to something else so I can enjoy them. You must think by now I'm off my rocker but this is a joke in the way of customer experience. Let's try to invest a few pennies in mashed potatoes and maybe I'll be back. I need to update my review from 2 stars to 5 stars. Hours later after sharing my experience about the mashed potatoes. I received a call from the owner Katie , my cell number from a previous reservation, who took the time to explain how the orders are made from scratch and apologized about my dinner experience. I must say, I am very appreciative of her addressing my craziness for their mashed potatoes and very good roast duck. I will certainly be back and a big thank you for listening and allowing me to make the substitution in the future. What a great experience. I have lived near this restaurant for years and had heard that it was very good. Problem was, I heard it was difficult to get into, busy. Passing with some friends early on a Saturday (5:00pm), we decided to go in. Immediately greeted at the door and seated. Ordered a couple of cocktails and appetizers. Had the 'Italian Pretzel ', and scallops,EXCELLENT. Never did we feel rushed and the service was impeccable. Ordered dinner after that and it continued to be a great experience all around. I use Yelp all the time, but this is my first yelp review, and boy what a review Christopher's Bistro will get! From opening the door, we were greeted with great ambiance, legendary music, and a greeter whose smile was one of the best I've ever seen. Talk about first impression. Our waitress was Cennia who was one of the best waitresses I've ever had. She also had an amazing smile and was very attentive to us, asking us from the getgo whether we were going to share our meals. Saying yes, Cennia promptly gave us extra plates. Service was prompt and Cennia got my mom the Bistro martini (what a fitting way to end a James Bond movie), which was "very good", as per mom. Food was phenomenal. We had the fra diavlo seafood pasta and the goat cheese salad. Their seafood pasta was one of the best I've ever had. Also, the goat cheese salad was terrific and a great complement to the pasta. Cennia got us our checks quickly and gave us one of her warmest smiles. I would definitely hope that you can get the pleasant experience of having Cennia as your server. This is one of those places where you just can't judge the book by it's cover. The place looks so ordinary, you almost don't see it. Like an invisible restaurant only seen by those with special foodie glasses? In a strip mall? Incongruent is what I say. Even inside is nice, but kinda ho hum. I had the bean burger. YUMMMMer. The patty is breaded and deep fried. I know, it basically takes all the healthy out of it, but it adds in a bunch of magical wonderfulness. Yes. I said magical. Live music some nights from what I could tell (we were there for a Thursday night live jazz... and I like a good bass strumming. We started with the fried calamari, as it's a family favorite for an appetizer. So good! One kid ordered chicken fingers, which he deemed "the best"! Excellent! I'm from Rhode Island and was just driving through, I have to say that I'm absolutely pleased with my decision to stop here! The service was excellent, waiters/waitresses were super attentive but not in a bad way, just perfect. My girlfriend and I had a Caesar salad, Lamb Mac and Cheese, and classic penne ala vodka. I have to say that the salad was the best Caesar salad I've ever had, the penne ala vodka was also excellent, although the lamb tasted alright I believe that was all me; kinda have to be in the mood for lamb! The prices are what you would expect of a nice restaurant. although, it's very nice that they offer half portion sizes for half the price; that's what we got... we still had leftovers.
