I've been getting a blow out once a year with Christy's. Last week I went and after my hair smelled weird. Had my hair washed by a professional at another salon multiple times this evening. My hair is now straight and limp. No curls. This isn't heat damage they are putting chemicals in people's hair without telling them. My hair still has the weird smell. The lady washing my hair today even noticed. I will be disputing the charge for my hair. I'm never going back there again. And will definitely be letting anyone who will listen know. read more

I just relocated from NY to Richmond so I've of course been in search of new everything. Christy's was my first hair experience in my new city and I can absolutely say THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! My hair looks and feels AMAZING and I will absolutely be returning for more future blowouts. Thanks Sonya! I've only got two "bad" things to say, which aren't even that bad and definitely not deal breakers at all. Cons (IMO): 1. As it is a holiday today, I did expect it to be crowded but with only two workers it made the wait even longer. Not sure what the staff is like but knowing most people were off work & school was out, I believe there should have been more people on the clock. 2. I personally like to see what's going on when someone is doing my hair however the whole time I was turned away from the mirror which I didn't enjoy. I have been going to Christy for about 8 years. I go weekly and get my hair shampooed and deep condition. No appointments needed and the service offered are reasonable. I get my hair relaxed and I have highlights. My hair healthy and looks good thanks to Christy. The same shampoo and conditioner are used on relaxed or natural hair. She has three or four conditioners you can select ( for an additional cost). If you want healthy hair you must have a hair regimen (e.g. get your hair shampooed and conditioned at least bi-weekly). If your hair is weak, brittle, damaged swing by the shop to get a brief hair consultation. Products used are good. read more

I have not been to this salon in over a year but today I decided to come and get my hair done. As soon as my mom and I walked into the salon the lady had an attitude with us. I tell her I want a blowout and my mom tells her that she wants a bob. She scoffs at my mom's hair and tells her that her hair is too short for one. She then tells me that my hair needs to be detangled and it's an extra charge to do so but I can do it myself. My hair was not tangled at all, she didn't even try to comb it out. My mother tells the lady that we will leave and go some place else where people want to do our hair. The lady replies rudely, ok. I believe she is the owner. This was my first time going to get a blow out since I've been natural so I was very nervous. I have really thick & curly hair and have been growing it relaxer free since 2010! The stylist was very professional and friendly. The salon was very clean and I was seen as soon as I walked in. My results were amazing! Although, the young lady who did my hair did a wonderful job, the customer service is horrible. I told the young lady upon me first getting my hair done I had a coupon via Yelp for a free conditioner upon check-in. Once I went to pay I told whom I assume was the owner about this again and she attempted to berate me. Mind you I was about to get my eyebrows done but her rudeness was enough for me, I'm not sure if she thought this was acceptable and then begin to tell a man who worked there that this was a coupon from 3 years ago and Yelp hasn't taken it down, not sure how that is the customers problem, I didn't end up having to pay the $5 for the conditioner but I did as my blowout was $40 and not $35. Horrible customer from the owners, they need to realize that you cannot speak to people this way, a bit disappointed to say the least. read more

I NEVER just walk into a salon without a recommendation so I was very apprehensive about randomly trying this place out but I'm so glad I did. They gave me a nice relaxing shampoo and conditioner along with an amazing blowout. My hair felt like silk after the fact. They do talk in Spanish to each other but I'm fine with that. I didn't go there for a conversation but I did go to get my hair slayed and that is what they did! I don't live Richmond but if I ever end up here again for business, I would go back. read more

Just had Rosa do my hair, and she did a wonderful job. She didn't use a lot of heat in my hair, and my hair still came out straight and silky soft. My scalp is usually sore after getting my hair done, but at this salon I don't have that problem. read more

Love this place! Best one in Richmond! This place is always clean and clutter free. Not to much heat and they can adjust the heat without you holding your ears or crying. All of them are good but my Rosa is the best and she gives good tips on how to maintain and grow my hair. read more

I had a great experience. However, unbeknownst to them, I could understand some of what they were saying about me in Spanish. Thankfully, it was mainly negative about my extensions and not my natural hair. I doubt they would have said it in the same manner if they knew I could understand some of what they were saying. I actually went here today for the first time. I had the wash and set which was on special for $15. I also had a deep conditioner which is an extra $5. The staff was very friendly and took their time with your hair. My roots was also blown out straight as well. My hair came out great. I will definitely come here again. read more

The older lady who I think is the owner who has an rude attitude. This salon will tell you one price and then try to get extra money later after your hair been washed and blown out. The customer service is horrible. My hair looks great but I will not be returning due to the customer service. Remember you're not the only salon in town people have options so that way customer service is everything!!! read more

I went based off of reviews the lady who did my hair did not speak much English but when she finished my hair was straight, roots were straight and I was pleased. This salon runs a special on wednesday for a $15 wash and set.They are somewhat friendly but never rude.However on two occasions the stylists her told me my hair was thin and damaged which blew my mind.My hair is long strong and healthy compared to the ladies who criticized me.I kept asking people how my hair looks and they said,shiny and healthy!I only go to them from now on if Im on a budget or I'm on the way to my gym in the area.The finished product depends on the stylist..Ive had better.Ive also had shiny and bouncy. read more

Let me start off by saying the results I had was awesome really awesome however the process could have made me walk out the building. The pregnant young lady that I had to do my hair yanked and yanked and yanked at my hair almost giving me a headache. I am natural and I'm sure they do many a natural girls hair but why must a Yank at my head like I'm not there. Love, Love, LOVE this place! - Been getting my hair done here for about 5 years now - I was skeptical at first, because my (natural) hair is thick and curly, yet it's extremely soft, and I was transitioning from years of getting relaxers - Well, let me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent haircare as well as the valuable advice I received the very first time Kenya did my hair - She has since moved on to another career (in law enforcement), but the owner, Christy, does my roller sets and blow outs now - Christy is the ultimate professional, and she truly cares about the health and strength of your hair - And not just about customer turnover - She will not do anything to your hair that she thinks will not benefit YOU, so if you request something that's gonna backfire on you, she will let you know - I could go on and on about how she also knows the difference between a "trim" and a full-blown haircut (LOL) - However, suffice it to say that I'm 100% pleased with the service - I told her she simply CANNOT retire, because it would break my heart, and I'd be stuck with ugly, frizzy hair. read more

I cant say enough about Christy's - I had shoulder length hair and was ready for a very short "Halle Berry" cut . I have very thick course hair, and have a hard time finding good cutters. This was the first time I've been to a shop in 2 years since I've been natural so it's safe to say I was a little hesitant. Rosa ended up doing a great job though! She co-washed instead of shampooing my hair like I requested and worked quickly without rushing on my hair. It took about 20-25 minutes to be seated instead of the 5 minutes they said they'd be with me but I was still out in under two hours. She trimmed my hair very nicely without getting scissor happy. My hair looks great. It's shiny, bouncy and super soft so what more could you ask for! They also used a reasonable amount of heat in my opinion, especially compared to other Dominican salons I've been to. So I just moved to Richmond and I am just trying out different hair salons. I decided to give this salon a try. I went in 2 days before my appointment so they can see my hair and tell me ahead of time how much it is going to cost. They told me $35 which is what I usually pay ($30-$35) when my hair is short which it is. Both times when I walked into the salon they didn't greet me right away. Good customer service is making your customer feel welcomed and that you are willing to help them. They did none of that. Ok fine as long as my hair looks nice then I can live without a hello right? A nice lady took me in at my appointment time and washed my hair. She has really long fake nails which really irritated my scalp when she washed my hair. I told her to go easy and she kind of did but it didn't help. Fake nails are very unhygienic. I told her strictly blow out and no iron. She blew out my hair but the ends didn't look so great. Which is why when she asked about the iron at the end even though I told her no I let her because the blow out wasn't cutting it. Also, before she started blowing out my hair I told her I am really sensitive and to not pull. She pulled but not to much. Although, I felt like she was burning me with the blow dryer. I even jerked back once. I wasn't crazy about the finished product but I was like I will live with it. I had planned on giving her a $5 tip. Then I got to the cash register and gave her my credit card and she charged me $40. I was fuming. I told her that I was told $35 which I why I went out of my way to make the appointment in person so they could see my hair. The day I made my appt some lady who looked like the manager even agreed with the girl that it should be $35. The day of my appointment the girl even told her she said $35. The lady said each hair stylist has a different price and showed me a sign that each blow out price is different. Yes I know that but it's one thing to give another price after you are done with my hair! She even got an attitude with me at the end and wasn't that nice anymore. Honestly, I didn't give her a tip and I am sorry but I had a price in mind. If you go to a store and the price advertised is $10 for a shirt that is $20 then they are required to sell you the shirt for $10. I am not going back and I am going to stick to the other salon I found in Richmond when I moved here. No more hair salon shopping. read more

I was in town and in need of a quick style. I have long thick natural hair. This salon is fantastic! I arrived at 8:15 on a Saturday and they were already open. It has been a few years since going to a Dominican salon so I assumed they do mainly roller sets. Wrong! They use a comb chasing method to blow dry and they are very kind to the hair. I got curls at the end of my hair and a deep conditioning. Will be back to see Rosa during my next visit home! read more

They say they specialize in ethnic hair, however I have experienced on two separate occassions the owner telling the African American women and Bi-Racial women that she cannot do their hair because it is thick and time consuming and she will charge $5 additional if their hair is natural. I got a blow out yesterday and by 11 pm my hair was back to its natural state I come in today and the stylist acted as tho she didn't remember even after I showed her my receipt!!
