Feet feels like baby skin :)) Update: Afterwards, I got a manicure done. Probably one of the worst experience. The nails are okay but seemed very rushed. I also got nipped by the nail drill. No big deal, she said she was sorry which I said it's alright then she proceeded to follow up with "you moved so that's why it happened". Okay, I already forgave you. Now don't try to shift blame and not take accountability. Before she put the pink gel on that I didn't approve i told her i wanted a milky white background for my French manicure. She proceeded to still put the pink and say "it will be painted milky white after. Of course I would trust the professional right? WRONG. She handed me off to another tech to finish my French manicure and I told the guy what I wanted...Milky white background. In disappointment he said why did she put the pink instead of the milky white. Then apologized and said if we do the milky white it would make the nail thicker which I specifically said I didn't want (I wanted my nails thin". I had to settle for the pink which I didn't want because I didn't want to waste anymore of my time. At the end I paid $155 and they kept demanding tip. I gave $5 and they said "between the three??" And I'm like???? I tipped Kathy very well because I know hard work, dedication, and care but if you give me Mickey Mouse how can you expect tip??? I'm sorry I would never do this because I also am in the beauty industry but this is just by far the worst experience I ever received from Jenny stick to your normal girls and you should be fine... I did have to pay for the products which ok I get it but the work was horrible I had to come back and get my normal girl to fix them... besides the mess Jenny did on me I will continue to come back but only with those 3 ladies... the owner wasn't very happy and said I should have gotten up and left but knowing me I would never do that I don't like to cause a scene or anything so the best thing was to ask for them to be taken off but they couldn't because Jenny cut my fingers up so bad I couldn't soak them in acetone... so be picky ladies I guess to make it across that you are not happy is by getting up and leaving.... I really tried to give this salon a fair chance. After several visits, it's clear the customer service is consistently disappointing. They don't honor the order in which customers arrive, and the lack of organization comes off as dismissive and, honestly, tacky. I shouldn't have to remind any business that respecting people's time is basic customer service. What's even more frustrating is that I gave them multiple opportunities to correct the behavior, but the experience never improved. At this point, it's obvious they don't value my business and you only have to show me that once. To be fair, there are maybe two or three techs who do quality work, but the overall environment and attitude overshadow their talent. When we arrived, we were immediately taken to the pedicure section and given a drink menu. The nail tech were great at their job and I felt pampered. As we left, the nail section was completely full and looked like they were doing amazing things! I know there's a lot of nail salons in the area and while this one is a little more expensive than others, it's worth looking into! I used to love coming to this salon and unfortunately I can't keep coming here anymore. This is the second manicure that was just poor quality. Six months ago I had an acrylic set from here that when the acrylic came off, it took my entire nail with it. My last acrylic set only lasted a week and a half and it was $100 and I even tipped really well they all popped off like they weren't even adhered right and they didn't even push down my cuticles so they were growing out super fast and I'm really good with my nails. For $100 manicure coming off in a week and a half is crazy. Just save your money. Don't go here. Very very dissatisfied and I never get my nails done. The only thing they consistently do is consistently let me down. 1 out of 5 times is quality and I come every time with hope. Paying $70 for an acrylic fill is never something I would expect, however the price changes every time you go. I have had lumpy acrylic, poorly shaped nails, cuts in my cuticles and overall disappointing experiences. This place has been amazing. I came here for the first time last month to have Anh fit me into her schedule to get chrome nails for my vacation. She was super nice and personable and made some new recommendations to help with nail health which I appreciated! I loved the chrome look and she was super sweet. My husband and I were walk-ins after dinner on a Saturday. We walked in 40 mins before close, and walked out 30 minutes after close with fantastic pedicures. They didn't cut any corners knowing we were going over after close. The salon was full and they still took us after only a very short wait. Jay and Hannah did great services. Two things to know before you go: 1. You WILL wait, whether or not you have an appointment, so don't make any time-sensitive plans. 2. It's worth the wait. I've been going here for about a year and the staff is lovely. Everyone is really friendly and sweet, and they're busy because they're great at what they do (and also bad at time management). It can be frustrating, but I keep coming back because Anh, in particular, does immaculate work. Appointments can be long but that's because she takes her time and does it right (I get liquid gel, which takes a while regardless). It's easy to miss the "design" add-on in the scheduling software, which adds 15 minutes to appointment times, but Anh will do it anyhow, which definitely adds to the time management issues, but I appreciate that she wants everyone to leave happy and takes the time to get their vision right. My nails always look BEAUTIFUL (she's a really talented artist--people stop me to admire my nails frequently) and last at least three weeks between appointments. If you want beautiful, lasting nails with unique, hand-painted designs, go here. If you are short and time or patience, this is probably not going to be your ideal salon. read more

This continues to be my favorite nail salon in the Richmond area! Martin first did my nails (gel manicure) and it was the best gel manicure I had ever received. I then transitioned to dip because it lasts much longer. Nancy did my dip manicure and did a great job. She was detailed and meticulous. One of my favorite things about this salon is that they have an appointment scheduler online which makes scheduling an appointment so easy. I've given this place about 5 tries and it's been very inconsistent. I book with Brian every time, and I have only been actually seated with him once. I ask about it each time (he wasn't even working the day of my most recent appointment with him), and I'm told "the reservation is just to hold your place, we put you with whoever is available." Then why even give the option to request a specific technician? I understand staffing can be difficult, I move past it. I usually have a neutral to positive interaction regardless of how my nails turn out (great 2/5 times, very flawed 3/5), but this last visit may have pushed me to never come back. During my pedicure I told her (not brian... who I booked with) she was hurting me, she smiled and no response. She then removed the gel from my fingernails with a buffer tool (at HIGH speed and very vigorously -- nicking my cuticles which I also told her was hurting... still continued to do it). She buffed it so deep that I could start to feel it in my nail bed underneath. At no point did anyone soak off the remainder of the gel. I was then passed off to an older man (also not Brian) for my gel manicure. Did not remove the rest of my gel. Kept filing my skin instead of my nails. VERY aggressively holding me in place and contorting my fingers... when I would try to pull away and then told me I need to sit still. I told him he's filing my skin... he told me to distract myself. Never has anyone let me wash my hands before painting. Then, only did a couple coats of a very thin gel in which he was already told would need an extra coat or two. Refused to do it until I refused to continue further unless he did. And then ultimately wouldn't put the gold foil top coat on it like I had asked for from the second I walked INTO the place. He told me "it won't look good" to which I had to finally say "well it's literally from your guys sample nails and it doesn't matter if you like it or not because they're my nails and I'm paying for it." The client sitting next to me felt bad and corroborated my negative experienceI am very patient and almost never become passive-aggressive or irritated because I understand it's a busy and demanding business to be in; however, it seems to get worse every time I go. The nails ended up being lopsided, uneven, bumpy from the remaining gel underneath, and my cuticles are very sore. Only receiving stars because Brian was amazing and really took the time to listen to his clients. All in all, this place really needs to work on their hospitality, organization, and demeanor. read more

Really disappointed in my first experience at Carytown Nails & Spa. I booked an appointment for 12PM and arrived around 11:55. I wanted 30 minutes to be seated in a chair and was informed that the person I booked with couldn't make it because her husband was sick and that her brother would do my nails. No apologies for the tardiness or concession. I asked for a gel full set based on a picture I saw on their Instagram. I wanted the exact style but a different color nail polish. I showed the technician the picture prior to getting started. Because I was pressed for time, I couldn't be as picky as I wanted to be with how the shape looked. I asked for almond they were extremely pointy and uneven and lacking any natural shape (really flat) the person who did my manicure pulled me by my fingers to bring my hand closer and was just not very pleasant to work with. They have a wide range of colors to choose from and an array of services. I decided to get the Carytown Signature Pedicure which included an orange, lemon, and rose petal soak, along with scrubs, massage, paraffin wax and hot stone. Mindy did an amazing job ! I was pleasantly surprised when she used the fruit slices to massage into my skin and toes. This place is ridiculous!!! I made 3 trips to the salon and paid $60 to get harassed by the staff and left without any service being done. This is absolutely insane!!!! I reached out to Anh, the manager on Instagram and explained that the technician did not perform any cuticle cleaning/care and did not properly shape the nails and made them extremely thick. Anh was understanding via Instagram message and informed me I could get them redone. And we agreed on a time and a date. However, when i came as schedule, they were extremely busy and I was told to come back another time after 12pm. I went back today and they were not busy but I was still forced to wait. The front desk girl was unpleasant and passive. Eventually after a long wait I was assisted by a new technician. SHE WAS TERRIBLE!!!!!!! she started screaming at me saying that I had to pay to get them redone. She was speaking in her language across the room. OVERALL A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION!!!!!!! I AM STILL CONFUSED ON WHY SHE WAS SCREAMING AT ME. What happened today was not okay. I would not have came back if Anh didn't provide me with that understanding and chance to get them redone. I don't appreciate the staff harassing and screaming at me as if I had done something wrong. The nice lady that jumped in to help, offered to redo them or provide me with $30 refund although I paid $60 only couple days prior but I accepted because of the discomfort, I wanted to be out of that store as soon as possible. Got a full set of SNS with tips with a simple design for 90$, and unfortunately they started cracking and falling off after a week. I wasn't doing anything harsh to cause wear and tear so i'm a little disappointed :( Also, the shape was not uniform and they were slightly uneven. If I could leave 0 stars I would. They only care about money and not the customer. I saw this place on "theRichmondexperience" (Instagram) and I got sucked in. This was my third and last experience here. I gave them so many choices because they are so close to my home and I saw all the beautiful designs they do... but actually I think it's only 1-2 nail techs that can actually do the designs. I had booked an appointment with one of the nail techs whose work I saw online but was placed with someone else my first time. I didn't say anything and thought I should give them a chance. I got a basic nude dip manicure and a few hours into the evening their were odd smudges on it. Like the top coat hadn't been applied properly and some of the nail polish color was uneven. I wanted to go back the next day but was leaving town to go see my family. When I can back to get a new manicure my second time I wanted some colorful French tips that I had seen on their Instagram. I specifically requested the service and described what I wanted done in my apt note but again I was placed with someone who definitely did not know how to do this. The manicure was a fail, the tips were thick and uneven. I was so disappointed when the tech said she was finished. It wasn't what I asked for but she told me that what she could do... what?! Then I came here today for my third apt.... to get the colorful tips soaked off. I tried to make an appointment so that I wouldn't be wasting my time.
