Christy's Donuts is more than a donut and kolache shop. It's a story full of history and remnant of Cambodian entrepreneur Ted Ngoy (aka the Donut King) and his ex-wife Christy. If interested in learning more I recommend watching the 2020 documentary called The Donut King as it'll shape a greater appreciation and understanding of not just this donut shop, but probably over 90% of mom and pop donut shops across Texas are Cambodian owned. The current owners of this family owned shop are Cambodian, and they've been operating for decades. On to the food, highly recommend their Chappell Hill sausage kolaches. They tossed it in the microwave for a quick reheat which made me a bit skeptical of freshness, but regardless the bread remained soft and pillowy with an amazing bread to meat ratio. For their donuts I loved their apple fritter, blueberry, and classic glazed donuts! They'll also toss in some donut holes on the house. Great for grab and go to work early in the morning, they open as early as 4am!

Incredibly upset! I love their Chappell Hill sausage kolaches and I literally came here to order just that. There was plenty of parking and the food line went pretty quickly. The feel is very mom and pop vibes which I do like. However, when I came home, come to find out they put regular kolache's in my bag. You don't know how incredibly upsetting it is when you have in mind you want to eat something and don't get what you ordered Check your bags before you go, ladies and gentlemen

I have been eyeing Christy's Donuts for some time now. When I drive by Christy's, it is usually after they have closed, or I have already eaten. Parking: pretty easy parking. It is on the corner of W Gray & Waugh, so you can enter or exit at two sides. It is not a large parking lot, but people seem to come and go quickly as it is mostly take out. Entrance & Ordering: small area to wait in line to order. There were two people in line in front of me and it went quickly. I had time to look at the fresh baked goods, the menu, and to make an informed decision. I read on yelp that the sausage and cheese croissant was tasty, so I ordered one and asked for a jalapeño option. The lady said she has a sausage and cheese kolache with jalapeño and I enthusiastically accepted. She warmed them up nice and hot. I paid cash since my order was $3.57 (and because I actually had cash on me). She seemed appreciative of cash for my small order. The croissant and kolache were delicious and I will be back for more!

I waited too long to come here. I pass by it all the time and I did not regret finally coming in. The donuts are so good. Perfectly glazed donuts. Soft. Sweet. Great prices. Nice people. Just a solid donut shop.

The best donut shop in Houston. Honestly I can't tell why this place doesn't get talked about more often, and sometimes I'm grateful it isn't. They can definitely get busy, but they aren't city wide famous for some reason, so you can still get a parking spot. This is a Montrose institution as far I'm concerned, I've been going here since my days at UST. The building has never changed, and the quality has always been great. The plain glazed donut here is the only thing I've had that's better than a Shipley's plain glazed. Served hot and super fluffy, they basically just melt in your mouth when you get one fresh. The kolaches and other savory breakfast options here don't miss either, no mystery meat sausages or premade plastic wrap breakfast tacos. Every style of donut here is my fave compared to other neighborhood spots. Worth a trip into town for sure!

I ordered the chapelle sausage pig in the blanket, TERRIBLE! I took a bite from each end and the sausage was tough to bite and chew. I threw it in the trash. $4.

Stopped by to grab early breakfast to-go for a road trip. This mom and pop shop is located in Montrose area and have a private lot. Got the jalapeños sausage&cheese kolaches and half a dozen glazed donuts. Turns out I've had Christy's many times through out the years in the office, and didn't realize since their boxes do not have logo or name. Tasted even better when freshly made! Kolache tasted fresh, the flavor and texture were good (much better than places with similar price point such as Shipley's and kolache shop, but not quite there yet compare to places with a higher price such as kolache Shoppe). The fresh glazed donuts are still warm and tasted like how a classic glazed donut should be, they also throw in couple free donut holes in the box! Will definitely come back again.

In the past they would bring out a bread basket, as a free appetizer like how some mexican restaurants bring out chips and salsa, however, they dont seem to do that here anymore. Service at the table was mediocre, our waitress took our drink order and on the way over, the waitress was spilling the drinks over the floor on the way to our table. After our waitress took our order, my gf did not get the mayo on the side as she had asked, and after we received our food, our waitress never came around to check on us, didn't refill our drinks or anything. The place was very loud, louder than visiting waffle house. I was trying to have a conversation with my gf sitting just across the table from one another, and we were having to literally yell at one another just to hear what each other were saying. My gf did state that the sandwich she ordered was a big sandwich, and was more than she could finish. Once we were ready to go, our waitress still hadn't been around to check on us. So I had to flag down someone else, to get us some to go boxes, and our check. Low and behold, when I was ready to checkout, the waitress appears out of nowhere, after all this time, I'm guessing because she thought she was going to get a good tip. I'm sorry, waitstaff only get a great tip from me, once and if they perform a great job duty, and this was not the case in this matter. Maybe, better luck next time, maybe Papas needs to hire better waitstaff worth hiring and keeping.

The gentleman that greeted us was so nice and made us feel so welcomed! Our server was also very nice, and super helpful as I asked for a wine suggestion and she hit the nail with her suggestion. She brought a small sample for me to try before serving it. The food itself was delicious! We got the onion rings appetizer, and you could tell they were made to order. They were super fresh and also crispy. The chicken parmigiana was good, and they were not stingy with their portions at all. The picture I took doesn't do the dish justice. We shared a bowl of the potato soup where we had no expectations and I thought it tasted pretty decent. But the real test was the entrees. Mr. Picky ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp while I opted for Veal Parmigiana, and we each stole a bite from the other's plate. We reached consensus immediately that both dishes were well-seasoned and quite delicious, meaning we would return for more good food in the future. Seriously, we hadn't expected much when walking in and looking around, but were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen's efforts. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.
