It's a everything Hot Bagel Sunday morning family brunch
    Helene S.

Lox and bagels for brunch? Definitely! Ordered an assortment of bagels for my sister-in-law who came for the weekend. Everything. Cinnamon Raison. Sesame. Poppy. Asiago. Honey Wheat...and a couple of strawberry. They also have the cutest mini bagel dogs. Six for $6. Easy to pick up. Lots of parking on a Thursday afternoon. Make sure to be there before they close at 2.

This is the place to go for Bagels - quite the selection of bagels with a variety of whipped creams and other toppings - but they also have these kolache-type weiners and they're cooked toasty. Tried the seasonal specialty bagel, the pumpkin bagel toasted. you can definitely taste the pumpkin. This is not a place to go for the ambiance, but there is a small seating area. A lot of traffic on Shepherd and you could easily pass by this inconspicuous place.

A truly *good* bagel outside of NYC is a forever journey; across state lines, and cities, grocery store bagels, franchise bagel shops, and "breakfast" restaurants rarely hit the mark with bagels. Sure, there's "good enough," but everyone knows what they are really searching for. Hot Bagel Shop might not transport you completely to NYC, but it is really close. The bagels are tasty, soft, and rich. The sandwich options are incredibly customizable, and amazingly delicious. The ingredients are fresh, and all work together really well. And if you go for just a bagel and cream cheese - well you're going to be pretty happy with your choices too. They have a huge selection of cream cheese flavors to complement their large selection of bagel flavors. Staff were quick, and service was friendly. The restaurant is small, so you might be better off with a grab and go, but if you're already in Montrose, it's a great pit stop before you start your adventures.

Ordered bagel and lox Everything bagel with veggie cream cheese And a *kosher Hebrew national dog bagel Bagel and lox was overly salty, the bagels themselves did not have the crunch, chew, fluff and shine of proper bagels. The cream cheese was solid. But we ordered the kosher bagel dog and as I was leaving I heard the lady behind the counter tell a gentleman that they ran out of Hebrew national and had ballpark all beef franks. To be totally honest I feel like that's wrong. You only enlighten specific customers? I mean if someone has a dietary restriction etc that's deceptive. The bagels dogs were not good. Thin dough overly crisped in the heat lamp and the dog was a funky color. Extremely disappointing to be honest, I probably could have gone to Sam's or Costco got their bakery bagels and lox and been more satisfied. Really disappointed over all I have to say

Had high expectations for this spot and unfortunately it fell short. The staff was inattentive and a bit rude which definitely added to the subpar experience. We chose to take ours to-go but there are a few tables to sit inside. Ordered a BEC w Jalapeño Cream Cheese on an Everything Bagel. Generous amount of fillings and the jalapeño CC was great. However, the bagel was disappointing - super hard and the inside was tough. Honestly, this spot was just alright.

I've been here probably three or four times since it's opened. It's one of my favorite bagel places inside the loop! My go to is the byo breakfast sandwich. Their everything bagels are yummy and the bacon is nice and crispy. My boyfriend has had a few different menu items. He had the breakfast burrito the first time which in his opinion could've been bigger. This recent time he had the bacon turkey sandwich which he really liked. They also have sausage kolaches so we always get one to split. Overall love this place! It is popping on the weekends. Probably took about 10 minutes to order and get our food this past time so not too bad a wait. There is some seating but it's limited and the parking lot sucks.

Amazing taste as always! They forgot to add red onions but the combination was still very delicious.

Such a great find for genuine awesome bagels! They serve a plethora of bagels with a huge selection of cream cheese flavoring and toppings. We tried the smoked salmon bagel and a kolache. They were both fresh and tasted great. While there Such a great find for genuinely awesome bagels! They serve a plethora of bagels with a huge selection of cream cheese flavoring and toppings. We tried the smoked salmon bagel. While there are tables to sit and enjoy the tasty treats in-house, I'd personally recommend taking them to go if you're like me and don't like the big crowds. This place can get packed, which is a good thing, just something to consider and account for when thinking about wait times. Customer service is good so that's a plus. Parking can be a challenge as the adjacent lot is free but really small.

Jalapeno cheese bfast bagel with jalapeno smear? No
    Kimberly P.

First time visiting...very friendly workers but did not get what i ordered. I even showed cashier a yelp pic of what i wanted which was a jalapeno cheese breakfast bagel w jalapeno schmear. She even asked if i wanted cream cheese on Sandwich. I said yes. Got home...didnt look quite like the picture, but i was hopeful. NO cream cheese anywhere on sandwich. I paid $13.99 for a jalapeno cheese bagel with egg, 1 strip of turkey bacon n slice of cheese. It was extremely dry and disjointed.

I've been coming here for years and recommending HBS to anyone that asks about bagels. I'm happy to see so many of my bagel photos from here in my camera roll/yelp photos. My friends are probably tired of me talking about it, I'm sure. I was surprised to see I hadn't written a review. I initially came here today though, to write an update about how I feel like the quality has decreased in the last handful of times I've ordered. I know the original owner has passed and the family is now running things so this may be the why. It's something about the ratios IMO. The bacons almost too cooked, the scrambled egg is just flimsy and not good, the sandwich will not stay together, etc :( It's probably still the best bagel spot inside the loop Order ahead on the app to skip the wait and line!

Strawberry bagel and hash brown they stuck on it

This place came highly recommended. However, the bagels are very dense and chewy. The strawberry is horrible. Fake pink flavor. I put add hash brown, thinking it would be on the side, but it was smashed inside the cream cheese, strawberry bagel. pretty gross. I also got the sausage egg and cheese bagel, which had no flavor and was also pretty sad.

Superb bagels. If you are looking for great bagels, breakfast sandwiches, or bagel dogs, this is the place to come. This was our go to breakfast place in Houston and we came here many times. It is important to note that it can get really busy on weekend mornings and that you may want to order online to avoid some lines/waiting. Everyone should go try this place.

    Smoked Salmon Sandwich
    Delina G.

tried the garlic bagel with cream cheese, salmon, and capers. The bagel itself was a bit too toasty on top, which muted the garlicky flavor I was hoping would really elevate the sandwich. Overall, it was good--but not quite amazing. Next time I'd probably go with a garlic & herb cream cheese to boost the flavor. Still, I'll be back to experiment and see if I can get a Lox bagel here that comes close to that classic NYC standard. Service wasnt straightforward and was nothing special. Ambiance reminded me of an old school bagel shop in nyc.

Now we actually go there about once every two weeks because we love it that much and I look forward to opening the front doors and smelling the sweet smell of baked goods Recently we also found out that they have cheese & sausage kolaches, and oh my gosh, they are delicious. They are really, really good and were such a nice surprise when we tried them. The location closest to us is the one on Airline Drive, and we usually go in the afternoon so we can avoid the after-work crowd. That time of day works really well for us because there aren't too many people, which makes it easier to grab bread and look around without feeling rushed. The ordering process is pretty quick and simple. You grab your metal tray and tongs, open each little door, pick what you want, and put it on the tray. When you're ready, you go to the register where the ladies count the breads, ring everything up, and bag it nicely for you. We're usually in and out pretty fast, which we really like. We love going to El Bolillo, and at this point it has definitely become a staple for us. We honestly can't get enough of it.

So, what we decided to do was to place an order for the chocolate ganache tarts a couple of days later, but while we were here, we'd try their Amandine tart, Sachertorte, and an Eclaire. Wow, I just had a bite of each and....daaaang, they were so so soooo good! So satisfying, so decadent, so next level deliciousness! ... perhaps a little sweet, but not overly so... thoroughly enjoyed just the taste of each. A couple of days later when we finally got to try their chocolate ganache tarts... wow... again! So obviously freshly baked, such wonderful density, flavor, and bite... with a butter cookie textured shell..... absolute heaven, and so difficult to just limit oneself to just one bite, but I managed. I'm sure we'll be back here again during our next visit.

The bakery itself is simple and clean. Be respectful of the place and help clean up after yourself. Not one customer made a mess there. Everyone are respectful to the sweet owner. The drinks itself are simple, reasonably priced on the cheaper side. Not sweet at all so ask if you want it to be sweeten. Quality and perfect desserts. Just semi-sweet so if you have a crazy sweet tooth, this is not your bakery. Again, prices are extremely reasonable and I see lots of locals who enjoy coming here. Prices are actually on the lower side of what I see throughout Houston. Passionfruit tart was my favorite, if you need someone to tell you what to try.
