I can't express how much I enjoyed my first visit to Chroma. After arriving to their beautiful building, inside and out, I was immediately greeted by true professionals. Chroma is so inviting. It doesn't seem like a doctor's office. Jenny took me to my pre-exam and was so nice and welcoming. She even laughed at my corny jokes. The process was expedited very quickly. Dr. V was very extensive in educating me on my results and what the best options were for me. After the quick exam I was fitted for frames. Jessica and Kayla treated me so well. Unless you want to drastically overpay for a regular eye exam and on top of that be pressured to have additional, non-necessary test you refused at first to do, go here. Sure office is nice, but it's disgusting how the optometrist has no scruples in overcharging and non disclosing prices to her clients with a smile on her face. We are in the midst of a recession! I came here since it was in network with my insurance and I figured it would be the normal prices. NEVER AGAIN!!! Anyways, guys, with 1-800 contacts and cheap prescription eyeglass sites that take insurance now, why throw your money??? This place will surely go out of business soon read more

They charged me to use one machine to check my sight that I have used at other places and did not have to pay for $65 to use and had never had to do that before out of pocket. The girl after I picked out my frames said I would have to pay $700 and I told her over and over I had insurance and had to insist until she said I owed nothing more than maybe around $140 to $160 something and I paid that. When I got the glasses they did not work and that has never happened to me before. The doctor said the frames were too big and to get smaller ones but they would have to have me use a different eye testing machine and when I asked how much that would cost (because they never told me I had to pay $65 to use the 1st one which I had never had to do before in my life) and he said he did not know until the insurance company bills them and I said isn't it your machine and not theirs and don't you bill them and since it is your machine, should you not know how much it will cost? I said I was not interested because it smacked of padding the bill more. So, I asked the girl out front for smaller frames that cost the same and we found some. When I came to pick those up, they said I owed another $140 or 160 for the frames and I said no I did nor but the girl said we had talked about it but I did not remember that and My handyman who dropped me off did not either. That day before leaving I ask if I needed to do anything else and they said no. I thought I was wrong maybe, but my handyman told me later I was right. Those glasses were worst! I told them that the hospital and Target where I got glasses twice always got it right and my eyes were the same and just needed a small adjustment in glasses so why did these not work ever? And later I looked those new frames up online and they go for I think around $140 to $200 (Cheap anyways) and no more so with insurance and my $140 or so and another $160 for some reason or so, and $200 in insurance...those frames were costly. (don't remember how much for co- pay) Do not go there. The front desk is just a bunch of barbies that don't smile and look like they are there to earn weave and nail money. Go somewhere else! I ended up going to get my old prescription and bringing it to them so I would have something at least after all the money paid out. read more

This has been the absolutely most wonderful experience that I have ever had- hands down! The ladies were prompt to making me an appointment. When I was running late, they did well and suggested an alternate appointment for later that day. When I walked in I was greeted promptly and with great enthusiasm. Everything was ready to go and I was seen very promptly. Doctor Cassie Rodgers was absolutely amazing! She made me feel very at ease and took extra time to make sure my prescription was perfect! Afterwards, I was shower different glasses within my price range and found the perfect pair. I was never pressured to buy that day- but opted to because I couldn't have felt more sure of my purchase. From beginning to end, I felt valued and as a patient or friend rather than a customer shuffled from one station to the next. Thank you ladies! You are all so amazing! This place is a joke. $200 just for the contact fitting? They are extremely dishonest and all they care about is taking as much money from you as possible. They want to sell you everything from Contacts to eyeglasses and designer eyedrops that no one needs. Avoid this place like the plague if you're looking for a Doctor who has integrity and actually cares for his patients. It's pretty sad that going there was similar to going to a high pressured sales meeting for a timeshare. I would highly recommend Dr Sharon Johnson over at the Sam's Club in Westcreek. read more

My wife and I have been going to Dr Barber for years and we have always had a great experience. We actually moved from DFW to Seattle 3 years ago, but we make it a point to get our annual eye exam from Dr Barber when we make it back to DFW to visit family. Dr Barber and his staff are helpful, friendly, and super knowledgeable. We also love their selection of frames and sunglasses. We always find something new that we end up loving. If I was an optometrist this is where I would want to work. The hours that this TSO branch are open works great... for their staff... but not so much for their customers. M-F 8:30AM -5:30 PM. I had a rare Tuesday off so I thought I'd drop in at 1:00 PM see what they had to offer... a locked door is what they gave me. Turns out not only do they keep bankers hours but they close an hour for lunch b/t the hours of 12 and 1 PM and were late to reopen. I waited till 1:10 (verified by cell phone) since I was already there but they were still not open when I left. The 10 minutes I waited made me realize that if I did become a customer, I could never make it back to pick up my order. This place is a pass for me!! read more

Dr Rogers was great. She was very personable and informative very easy to talk to. Staff was extremely helpful and nice. I was happy with my first visit. I purchased classes and contacts. I did wish they had more brand name options but I found some glasses. I actually chose this optician from Yelp so I hope my review will help you make a choice as well. I had an unfortunate experience with Texas State Optical today and I recommend that you find a different eye care provider, as I will be doing. I originally scheduled to have a routine eye exam. I told them that I needed an eye exam but that I currently have a case of pink eye. They said that was not a problem and that they could see me. Upon arrival, I again explained that I have pink eye and asked if that was a problem. Of course, they said it wasn't. However, once Dr. Rogers saw me, she said that she could not complete my eye exam until the pink eye was cleared up. What's worse, she could not charge my visit under my vision insurance so they elected to charge me under my health insurance, which was 5x the price! Long story short, I was manipulated into receiving care from Dr. Rogers for much more money than it would have cost through my family physician. And, I walked out without receiving my eye exam. Part of the problem was that I allowed them to manipulate me. I will not be returning to Texas State Optical. I recommend that you don't either. ****Update after Dr. Roger's response**** Dr. Rogers, Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, your practice told me *twice* prior to the commencement of my appointment that, if I had pink eye, I could still proceed with my scheduled eye exam. I specifically asked if that was a problem. I was told twice that it was not. However, after you told me that I would not receive an eye exam, I should have requested to stop the appointment. All told, I was assured twice by your staff that I could receive an eye exam despite the pink eye. Then you told me that I could not. Then I was charged for an appointment that I basically didn't have. I sat in the chair for 5 minutes and was charge 5x what my vision insurance would have been. I wish that I had the foresight to see what was happening and cut the appointment off. Alas, I didn't. I have learned from this experience that, while your staff is very kind and you seem to run a fine operation in general, you and Dr. Barber cared more about collecting money from me on one visit than being fair and earning my business for the next 10 years. I wish that you were willing to understand how it made me feel to receive inaccurate information twice and then be charged because of your practice's inaccuracy. If some attempt had been made to understand that, my follow-up would already be scheduled, a pair of glasses would have been purchased as a result of that exam, and you would have seen me 12 months later. In stead, it seems that I will have to find another eye care provider. read more

He is very personable and works to explain everything he sees and what that means to you as a patient. I am reiterating the previous review as I experienced the same during my visit. I was asked initially if I was interested in additional testing after my regular annual eye exam. I checked "no" for both tests. I was then told by the optometrist, Dr. Widjaja, in my exam room that these additional tests were covered under my insurance and that we would be completing them. I was not asked if I wanted the additional tests, rather informed they were going to be completed since they were covered under my health insurance plan (not vision insurance). After the tests were taken, I was told there was an additional $40 copay for the additional tests done. The doctor and staff are incredibly misleading and unethical. The receptionist did not bat an eye when I informed her the doctor expressed these were covered under my insurance. Do not fall into the trap this office clearly tricked me into this morning. The office is beautiful and new, but none of that is worth the experience. Do not go to this office unless you want to be tricked into paying more money. read more

Texas State Optical of Fort Worth has been my choice for the past few years and the staff & service are always SUPER friendly. The visit is always quick, especially if you are a returning patient, and they make sure you have everything you need to know when it comes to what type of contacts/glasses to purchase. I really enjoy the convenience of making appointments online with any doctor of your choosing and that is just one of the many perks with this office. Do not go here. They have very deceptive pricing practices. I have vision insurance with a $10 copay for exam, $40 copay for contact fitting, and $120 towards contacts. I ended up being charged $150 for exam and "premium contact fitting". I was not told I would require the premium fitting until after it was done and was not giving pricing until it was time to pay. I also received a bill from them 7 months after the fact. When I called to ask about this, they said I was quoted the wrong price due to their clerical error and that I would be required to pay the difference. Overall, they are all very unprofessional and do not know or understand their own prices. read more

I came in so I could get a light prescription to be able to read the board in class. After being reluctant to take a $30 additional charge for an eye picture, Dr. Rogers told me I could have cancer in my eye and suggested I take a picture of my retina to check for freckles... Then I had a freckle, and she told me not to worry about it. She didn't offer information on how often freckles turn into cancer, how common that type of cancer is, or how often I should get that looked at. I tried asking both her and her desk for a copy of my records for my next annual eye exam, since I won't be coming back (which I thought, legally, you kinda have to let people have access to their records?). I have very little hope that I will be getting those copies. The bedside manner is pretty poor here and in my opinion, they way overcharge for everything. It's been kind of hard to sleep at night, since I can't stop worrying about how I won't be able to tell if that freckle has changed size during my next eye exam if they won't release my records. I've tried calling and that "contact us" thing on their website to no avail.. I'm probably gonna go get that picture retaken in a few weeks. When I was getting my prescription filled at Target, the guy said that a full exam and the picture would have been $25 there. I can't believe how much I was overcharged for such little information and care. read more

I have been going here for a while now. Everything has been fine up until recently. I had an exam in August of 2018. I received a prescription for glasses and contacts and paid for both with my money. At the time I purchased a new set of glass and decided to hold off on the contacts. Recently I tried to order new contacts from an online vendor. After the online vendor reached out to TSO for my prescription, TSO said my prescription hadn't been finalized. When I reached out to TSO they said that since the doctor has not seen me in the contacts I wanted to order he does not feel comfortable with that prescription. Now they want me to come in again for another exam and pay full price out of pocket just to get a different brand of contacts. The online vendor I was going to purchase from has a guarantee that if I don't like the contacts I ordered then they will take them back and swap them out for ones I do like. This makes no sense whatsoever if I'm paying for the product. TSO shouldn't have control over what brand of contacts I want if I'm willing to pay for them, especially since I already paid for the prescription. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Be aware..... If you go in with vision insurance, and a complaint of any kind they will attempt to bill your medical insurance insurance. This allows them to charge you and your insurance more. So my visit should have been no more than $50.00 with every test they offer, instead it ended up costing me over $300.00. That price does not include any glasses. It was all for just an eye exam. The doctor and staff are very nice and friendly. It's just their business practice that gives them a 1 star. read more

I was new to this TSO and simply came in for my yearly eye exam. The front desk staff let me know what my insurance covered so I was able to get everything I needed, and the doctor was great. I was told my eyes were fine with a slight prescription that I could choose if I wanted glasses or corrective lenses. Since it was a tiny prescription and I've had Lasik in the past, I opted out but was told my prescription would stay on file if i chose to call and fill it. I paid my copay at the end of my visit and left. A few months later I received 2 outstanding balance notices for over $300 in the mail, one marked from months previous which made no sense. I called TSO to see what the bill was for since I paid my copay and insurance covered my eye exams. I was told it was for my glasses that I never picked up. Problem is, I never ordered glasses. The woman on the phone was extremely rude and demeaning, saying "ma'am, I remember fitting you for those glasses...we don't just make random glasses and fill prescriptions for random people." First of all, out of thousands of patients I know she doesn't remember me from coming in once months ago. Also, I had never stayed or returned to their office for glasses fitting because I don't need them. They kept fighting me on the phone that I was going to be charged for these glasses because I'd never picked them up, but I NEVER ORDERED GLASSES. After about 10 minutes, the lady finally said "fine, we'll cancel this order but you can't just order glasses and not pay for them next time" and hung up. No problem, TSO...there will be no next time because I'm absolutely not coming back. I hope whoever those glasses belonged to was able to get them. read more
