Every time I come here I learn the same lesson, dress light. Everything that I have seen here has been amazing. The only thing that takes away from the experience is the air conditioning, or lack there of. I really thought it was just me at first until saw around 40% of the other attendees using their programs as fans. This place can be a hot box and that is worth 2 stars for me. I would rather it be cooler so I can applaud a little longer. Because some wonderful things happen here. And the heat won't stop me from coming back. read more

I'm currently outside if Chrysler Hall for ECPI University's graduation. Security is refusing access to individuals with tickets due to limited capacity. Even though graduation is over they are still refusing access. Not sure if this is poor planning by the university or pettiness by overzealous security guards. Either way it is unacceptable as people traveled great distances and were not admitted to see loved ones graduate. read more

I so badly want to give this place 4 stars, but it could use a remodel. Wonderful place to host an event, but the seating could be bigger and updated. It just looks like a large high school auditorium. The halls outside of the auditorium look pretty good. I like how they have staff to control the elevators during a busy event. For me, still the greatest venue locally for Broadway style shows. We have our season passes this year because the line-up can't be beat. This theater has history (I actually crossed the stage here when I graduated way back when), and beauty, there really is no bad seat in the house. Even with our balcony seats, we still hear even the whispered commentary, and all seats have unobstructed views to the stage. With the parking underneath the location, that makes it even better on these cold rainy nights because I stay dry and warm from my car, to the elevator right into the building. Take advantage of this beautiful Norfolk Venue and go catch a show. read more

In desperate need of renovation. Seats are very very uncomfortable. Balcony area is treacherous to navigate. The facility has only 2 elevators and they are quite small, and at times might be inoperable. So, plan to use the stairs. If someone in your party has difficulty using stairs, reconsider coming here. Was shocked to learn at a recent performance that drinks are allowed INSIDE the theater IN the seating area. As if this were a sports stadium. There were bits of paper and debris all over the carpet, even before the performance began. I'm sorry, but this venue has turned into a dump. Terrible shame. It has tremendous potential. Usher was clueless. We knew where the seats were, but usher tried to redirect us to other side. Just a terrible experience. Touring groups should go elsewhere. read more

I took my daughter here to see the broadway production of "Sister Act". We had a tough time finding parking. Once we finally parked, we tried to use the elevator up to the Chrysler Hall, but it was locked. Then we tried the stairs up to it and the door at the top was locked as well. So, we had a log hike up to the main front doors and stood in the freezing cold. We were finally able to go in and get warm. The carpet and seats in the lobby areas is outdated and worn. My daughter thought the place smelled bad. But, once we got inside and found our seats, it was not so bad. The seats were comfortable and we had a good view of the stage. The performance itself is a 5 star. It was excellent!!!! But, I have been to many broadway productions over the years and this venue was one of my least favorites. read more

I love Chrysler Hall. I've seen countless shows/concerts here in addition to actually performing here myself several times. Although it looks a bit run down on the outside, this place is a wonderful venue. Really no matter where you are seated, you can see the entire stage - maybe not as up close and personal as you may hope to, but you'll definitely be able to scan the entire stage. I will say that the seat slopes could be adjusted which would alleviate that ever constant struggle to lean over to the side when that big-haired woman sits in front of you! As far as size, I find it to be rather large. I've been in much smaller theaters and this one in comparison is huge! Updates or a remodel would be awesome, but I think that this place definitely has charm. read more

Went to see The Virginia Symphony last night. First off, the parking situation is atrocious. There is literally not enough parking to have events at The Scope along with this place. Once the gf and I made it inside, there's concessions selling beer, wine, and mixed drinks. The liquors offered for the mixed drinks were below bottom shelf, stuff that you can find at the ABC store for $12 or so for a 5th. The gf gets a hot chocolate and I settle for a bottled water. We head up towards our seats and we are stopped by a stewardess and are told that no drinks are allowed in the theatre, not even the bottles water. So basically, wasted the $ on those purchases as the show was starting in 5 mins. There are no signs stating this anywhere in the concession area either; I double checked as we left the show. The concert itself was great, but this venue is terrible. read more

My family and I saw the Wizard of Oz last night. The show was excellent. The cast members did a great job of portraying what is an iconic American Film. The Lion and the Wicked Witch stand out. The downside was the venue. Been here many times over the last 30 years. These seats had poor sight lines to the stage. My seat was not even bolted to the floor and seemed tiny. All three of us left the show with a stiff back from being bent in the seats. Did not see any staff around. With what they charge for a premium mixed drink(23 Dollars), seems like they could afford updated seating. read more

I have seen many Broadway plays at Chrysler Hall and have almost always been pleased with the performances. This past Saturday's showing of Les Miserables was a first class performance in every way. The props and costumes were outstanding and some special effects were a great surprise. The addition of the parking lot across the street made it so easy to park and we were out of there in less than 15 minutes after the show was over. The teleprompter was very helpful with this particular play because every word spoken was in song. It is a small theater but much more comfortable than many in NYC. I saw "Chicago" in NYC and everyone wore black tights. I've never seen a play in Norfolk that did that. Hats off to the orchestra; they were fantastic. read more

Was here to see David Blaine. Parked at Scope garage for $5 which I thought was cheap for an event. They do security checks at the elevators that then take you the main floor of Chrysler Hall. I didn't go to the other floor. There were two concession areas and both were packed. There were two restrooms and it was a long line during intermission. It looked like a sold out show, but they do need more restrooms and concessions. The floors were very slick going to my seat which made the usual double-fisting-drink strategy a bit more challenging. Still, it's a decent venue and David Blaine put on a great show. read more

Here to see David Blaine the magician and we decided to get a couple of cocktails. For a show this popular, there was one person behind the counter taking money, pouring cocktails, getting food etc. I was in line and was up front, about 5 people in and it still took about 20 min. to get two beers. The line behind me stretched 30-40 people who were still waiting. I asked the girl where her help was and she said there is no other help, this is the way it always is. Cmon people, you have 75 ushers and door men but one person taking care of the food and drinks. Amateurs and not a great way to take care of customers. read more

A few weeks ago I came to Chrysler Hall to see "Love Jones The Musical". This was my first time here and the musical was great, the cast was perfect and I enjoyed the whole show. On this particular night it was raining really bad and the line for the parking garage was backed up. When I finally pulled into the garage I found out that it was $5 for parking, I had no idea it was cash only and of course I had ZERO cash on me so they had a driver escort me out the garage until I can come back with $5 cash on me. It's 2016 so I'm not sure why they aren't accepting cards at this point. I came back 20 minutes later with cash and was able to park. After taking the elevator upstairs I pulled out my phone because I had the barcode for my tickets on it and I was able to get in. I had front row seats which I thought was a good idea at first but it was a bit TOO close. The seats were extremely tight and on the front of the stage were a few speakers which blocked my view several times during the musical. Overall the experience was good. I'll know to bring cash with me the next time. read more

Only for the sake of the shows that come to this venue do I give this place 3 stars. The venue itself is old. The seat are too small. The elevators are super slow. The stairs for balconies are narrow and limited so there is a lot of waiting for people to go up or down. This venue benefits from bringing in the shows and charging a boat load for tickets while letting the Hall fall into disrepair. read more

Be careful of this place if you have a handicapped person attending with you because believe it is not a handicap friendly place. Unfortunately I made my complaints known to management and the most they could manage to say was sorry. Elevator staff was incompetent and put us on wrong elevator and then we were on wrong side. When booking my tickets I was told there would be no stairs and my 97 year friend ended up having walking up two flights. Not ADA compliant. Disappointed. read more

Went to see Alice Cooper last night and the sound was excellent. The show was amazing. The only thing that sucked was the people that served food and drinks. They had one person on the second floor and eight down stairs. They all were taking their time, hustle is not what they do. And after the show started the food and drinks closed. So it sucked. Here for Nick Swordson show and have been super happy with how fast we were able to park, pick up tickets, get a drink k and be seated. Bar prices are high but lower than other venues. I like the $11 large glass of wine and the bartenders have heavy pours! Not a bad seat in the house. read more

As to The Phantom of the Opera, it seems to me that when a show has a wonderful score, indeed an "opera" , excellent singers should be found to play the roles.This was not the case when I attended the evening performance on Jan. 10th, with the exception of Christine, who was better than the rest of the cast. The Phantom whispered "The Music of the Night" when he should have soared. Raul was flat as he expressed his love for Christine. She carried him. When you put on a musical get some singers They can't all be Michael Crawford, but they should try! read more

I went here to see the comedian Gabriel Iglesias. I can't really complain it was a decent sized venue. The lines weren't too terrible, they were appropriately staffed, the bathrooms were clean. My only complaint would be that their refreshments were WAY overpriced. read more

Very nice and large museum. You can spend a good amount of time here. I enjoy their third Thursday's events. Very affordable and nice place. The glass blowing demonstration was pretty cool and they had free appetizers and drinks for purchase. The tickets for the glass theatre do sell out so be sure to get there early to get yours. read more

Chrysler Hall is absolutely stunning! I just performed there for the first time as a dancer, and it was by far the best venue I've had yet. It was beyond easy to get in and out of, and everything went so smoothly as they accommodated all of our needs. My dance studio as been there for years and I'm very proud to be able to perform with them all there as well! read more

My wife and I have seen "Phantom of The Opera" 4 times. Once on Broadway and the rest traveling productions. We saw this version on January 11 and were totally displeased withe the production. The only bright spot was the lady who played Christine Daae. The rest showed no personality or any vocal depth. The Phantom in the first act was dreadful. Upon arriving and parking in the garage at the Scope, we were directed to the elevator to go up to Chrysler Hall. When we got off the elevator we were promptly thrown into "Chrysler Hall jail". Our friend we were seeing the show with had our tickets and had not arrived yet. The ticket nazi seemed very upset that we would even try to come up the elevator without our tickets, and quickly told us to call our friend because we weren't supposed to be there. Once we were released from jail and found our seats, the incompetent ushers sent every single person in our row in from the right hand side. While at the concession stand we were told they were out of popcorn, bags for the popcorn, and coffee. We waited in two lines to be told that we could go upstairs and maybe get some popcorn, but that it was first come first serve. What is this some sort of free for all? And maybe they should take some lessons from the movie theater. Have you ever been to a movie and been told they don't have popcorn? Me either. Movie theaters also have booster seats for kids to sit in. You'd think when you're paying $100 for seats, you could at least get a booster seat. On a positive note, the show was good. read more

My child has had several dance recitals/competitions here and I have to say that our experience here has been less than favorable. The door attendees/ushers are usually some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. The food and beverages offered at the concession stand are ridiculously over priced. My child left her shoes in the dressing room after a dance performance and went back after the show to get them and the usher would not let her go back to get them. She told me that I could call the venue in the morning to see if housekeeping picked them up and left them at lost and found. The lady blocked the door to back stage and would not let us go back. My child had to walk all the way to the lower level of the parking garage BAREFOOT!!!!! The only reason I didn't totally snap was because they were only flip flops. And, I have been to dozens of dance shows in various parts of Virginia and never have to pay to park, except in Norfolk. Us dance families already pay so much for these shows that we shouldn't have to pay to park to use your venue (that's been rented at a pretty steep price, I imagine). My experience was awful. I attended with my daughter on a Sunday afternoon to watch the Paw Patrol show. Once I was in the area it took 20 minutes just to find parking. None of the parking places take credit or debit and there were no atms available other than a janky gas station a couple of blocks away. By the time I finally got cash I was running 10 minutes late and there was no parking attendant anywhere to take take the money and give me a ticket to park. Figuring out where to go was difficult because they didn't have an employee in sight to direct people and the ones working the doors were too busy talking to eachother inside to direct people. If you sit in the orchestra section, be prepared to walk in front of like 30 people before being able to find your seat. Sound quality really sucked so we basically sat through a show and could only hear screaming kids the whole time. I'm sticking to Hampton Coliseum events from now on where things are organized, parking is free, and employees know what they're doing. read more

Went to see the Tedeschi-Trucks band Thur 18 Oct. We were looking forward to some great music but the venue didn't allow that to happen. It appears nobody even attempted to balance the acoustics. It sounded like they just trucked in the equip turned it up to full blast and left it. The guitar amps overloaded the vocals and the horn section to the point it all sounded muddled and incomprehensible. While it was nice to be able to bring a beer into the hall, that was spoiled but the idiots next to us who acted ike a bunch of loud mouthed drunks at a football tail gate party. Then it was really nice to get drenched by a waterfall of red wine that spilled from the balcony above us. What a disservice to both the perfomers and the audience. What should have been a great concert just plain sucked and it wasn't the TTB's fault. NO EXCUSE for a concert hall of this quality! read more

Don't waste your money on the Stage Left Lounge. Opened 25 minutes late, surly slow and unhelpful bartender (just one), people who hadn't paid for admission allowed to wander in and help themselves to the hors d'oeuvres... really lousy pre-show experience. Would NOT pay for the Stage Left Lounge option again! read more
