I have had ear issues my entire life. I see an ENT on a yearly basis to also keep tinnitus in check. I relocated to Austin from Pittsburgh this past year and was worried I'd not find a doctor as good as the one I had. Well...I'm gonna have to say Dr. Chu is even better! I recently had some clogging that a doctor at urgent care (yes, I know better) and my PCP couldn't properly diagnose. Not only did Dr. C. figure out what was going on within minutes but he also took care of it and I was unclogged and able to hear again! He was so thorough, kind, and funny. I asked him to be my BFF. Seriously, he was so knowledgeable and he actually listened to me!! I liked the handheld camera he gave me so I could see what he was looking at in my ear. I did however proclaim it to be gross, haha. When a doctor takes the time to show compassion and provide treatment, it's amazing. And quite frankly the way it should be. All of these years I thought I knew it all with regard to my ear issues. However, now I'm actually fully educated thanks to Dr. Chu. I need to give a shoutout to staff, his son (I think he's the office manager) and the front desk employee were just fantastic. Super friendly and professional. My experience with Dr. Chu was simply outstanding, rare, and by and large the best healthcare experience I've ever had. If you're looking for an ENT or even considering whether or not to see one, I highly recommend making an appointment with Dr. Chu. I had a painful, acute ear issue recently, and I was able to make a next-day appointment online easily through Dr. Chu's website, and new patient forms were sent with a secure link in advance. Easy peasy. (For context, another area clinic gave me the option to see a PCP in 8 weeks...) Dr. Chu's staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful in explaining my co-pay upfront. The appointment started promptly, and Dr. Chu was able to diagnose my issue almost immediately. What frankly surprised me was how engaging and compassionate Dr. Chu was during the appointment. I had a pretty traumatic childhood experience with multiple ear infections and have chronic issues still today. Dr. Chu really listened and really assuaged my fears without being dismissive or patronizing. He also took time show me on video what was going on in my ears, answered all of my questions, anticipated other questions, and even walked me through treatment options that I had no idea were even available to me. Honestly, I've been avoiding ENTs (and swimming) for decades, and now I really feel hopeful about being able to correct some of the longstanding issues I've dealt with my whole life. He even spent time just chatting with me in general...like...having a normal human conversation for a few minutes instead of running off impatiently to the next patient. I've never had this kind of experience with a healthcare provider, but I really wish more healthcare providers operated like this. More so, I wish I had had a doctor like Dr. Chu when I was a child dealing with ear pain! Just a heads up that Dr. Chu's office is an older, no frills building that telegraphs, "I'm not trying to pass on the cost of primo real estate to my patients." I was in need of an urgent evaluation for a painful earache and called around the Austin area, but Dr. Chu's office was the only one able to see me right away. The scheduling process was quick and seamless. Dr. Chu provided a thorough exam, clearly explained the issue, and even showed me exactly what was going on, which put me at ease. I would not even give one star but it's the only way to leave a review. I scheduled an appointment two weeks ago to have my son's hearing evaluated. I never heard a thing from the office and showed up on time to my appointment today (11/20/2023). I took time off from work, hurried and got my toddler out of the house to ensure we were on-time, wanting to be respectful of the doctor's time. When I arrived, I was rudely told that they couldn't see him because they only do hearing evals on certain days of the week. The front desk staff was incredibly rude and she sat there smirking at me as though my inconvenience was of little consequence. She kept insisting that they called and when they couldn't confirm the appointment they declined it. I am on my phone a lot for work and I have a watch that alerts me to calls and voicemails - they did not call me and if they did, no one bothered to leave me a message. And that rude, smirking front desk person pretty much lied to my face. Because as soon as I walked out of the office I got an email notifying me that the doctor had declined my appointment and to call to reschedule. I have never been so angry in my life - to be treated as though I was just an annoyance they had to deal with and then to be flat lied to. They never called, they never "declined" the appointment - had they done those things I would have seen the email to call and reschedule. The doctor may be great - but if this is the kind of staff he hires, I would stay far away. Dr. Laurence was an awesome doctor. Booked appointment through ZocDoc (which I hope overtakes the U.S. market soon because it's finally bringing the healthcare consumer experience into the 21st century) and found the office without too much difficulty. Parking lot has ample space and Dr. Laurence's office is easy to find on the second floor. Waited about 5 minutes until I was seen. Dr. Laurence was super nice and talkative the whole time. Listens deeply to what you're experiencing and cross-references across your medicals. Overall just a really positive experience and you can tell he cares + is highly competent at his job. Told me to just give them a call if anything else minor comes up which I rarely see in the medical practice anymore (where's the personal interaction and relationship?). No ENT issues for me but I know who I'm going to if there are in the future. read more

Dr. Chu was great and his office had me with him within 15 minutes. He was able to confirm that I didn't have an ear infection and my pain was caused by TMJ joint. Would recommend to anyone. Cost was like $150 without insurance. read more

He also read the notes I sent in prior to my appt, so he already knew what was going on with my ear! He diagnosed my tonsilitis quicky and cleared my ear of wax. It was the easiest first time appointment I have ever had with a physician. One of the best both in terms of knowledge and manner, and he has something many great doctors lack: excellent office staff. Dr. Chu is thorough in examination, mindful of insurance approvals and costs, and conscientious to follow up. He has contacted both my allergist and my internist at various times, sharing notes and forming opinions. He gives me the knowledge and understanding I need to know what my next steps are and remember how to stay on track. The office frequently acts as a go-between for followup communication and questions I just plain forgot to ask when I was in office. I frequently get an appointment the same day I call. Dr. Chu was not only my surgeon, but was also my son's surgeon a couple of years ago. My son had a deviated septum that was blocking his right nostril and helping cause regular sinus infections. He needed surgery, and Dr. Chu did a perfect job. Which is why I went to him this year when it was recommended that I get sinus surgery to fix my blocked frontal sinuses. It turns out my sinuses were quite a mess. A CT scan Dr. Chu was able retrieve from over 13 years earlier showed that I'd had this problem quite a while. Dr. Chu is incredibly knowledgable, personable, and conservative. His approach toward fixing my sinuses involved as little cutting as possible, and the recovery time was quick. He was so good, that even my wife, who had some problems with dizziness went in. He quickly diagnosed her and then referred her special case to someone who immediately went to work to help her out. Dr. Chu is the best physician of any type we as a family have experienced. He was our daughters' surgeon for an ear tube we were hesitant to put in . Initially we were very hesitant to have the procedure, based off our experience with another physician we didn't trust but had been going to for 18 months. Dr. Chu is honest, professional and every bit of information or advice he shares is on point and has been helpful not matter how small. Our daughter constantly says the only Dr she likes going to is Dr. Chu because he never hurts and there is a claw machine in the lobby! I went back for a second visit. The doctor saw me less than 10 min and I felt rushed out of the clinic. They were very quick to charge $100 for a 10 min consultation. Immediately leaving the office, I turned around because I had a question for the doctor and he was already gone across the building to treat another patient. I asked the front desk ladies to have the doctor call me but never got a return call. I can't help but feeling being robbed of $100 or maybe more when the real bill come in for a 10 min consultation. When I was booking my first and second appointment with the doctor on line, all the spots were open. I had doubt about it since good doctors should not have many open spots. But I still booked appointments with him because I saw some five star reviews and the overall review is 4.6. Eventually, my friend's and my own experience with the clinic proved my first gut feelings. I have two stories to share. The first one is about my friend's daughter who needs a surgery. Her mom made an appointment for her on someday of July. On that day, they went to the office, but the front desk told them that they could not perform the surgery since the doctor was busy. The mom said they even didn't receive a call from them about the postponement. The front desk insisted that they called. Maybe she called, who knows? Why can't she leave a message if the mom missed the call? What a lie. Next, I am sharing my own experience with the office. First, the front desk is very rude and never had a smile on her face during my visits. VERY ARROGANT. I had a sleep test and paid second visit to the doctor discussing the result and treatment. The doctor told me that his partner would contact me immediately, but after one week, nobody called. I called doctor's office, the front desk said she would send my information to the partner soon. Then 5 days passed, no call coming in. I contact the partner and they said they had not received my results from the doctor's office yet. I had to call the doctor's office again, the front desk said she would send soon. I asked her what the reason was for the delay. She said she didn't know. What a ridiculous excuse !! From what I observed during the two visit, I feel like they ONLY care how much money you spend on those tests. They really don't care about your treatments. read more

Let me start by saying the the doctor is very nice, but this is probably the most unorganized doctors office I have ever been to. After paying in cash immediately after the appointment I start getting mail from a collection agency saying I owe the doctor $150 (This is after he charged me only $100 at the office). I then called the office I realized that the name on the receipt or invoice wasn't even mine, when i explained this to them they acted like I was crazy (I spoke to about 4 different people and nobody could really help me) It has now been 8 months since my appointment and they still haven't resolved this very irritating situation. My poor baby girl had to have her tonsils removed and due to crappy insurance we were very limited in which doctors would take our insurance within an hours drive. We ended up going here and like other reviews state, this place is dang scary. Really old equipment and office that really looks like a horror movie. The doctor was very mean to my kids, didn't seem to care and even gave me parenting criticism, wth?! Anyway, my daughter really needed the surgery and he was the only one to do it and despite my displeasure with the visit, I figured he at least seemed competent to complete the procedure. Fast forward to surgery day, scary day for your 4 year old baby to go under the knife. He didn't even spend 2 minutes with us before they took her in and not even 30 seconds after she came out. Daughter was in pain for over 2 weeks, and I honestly think it had a lot to do with his work. Obviously I wouldn't be able to prove that since I'm not a professional but his lack of care for my child while she was awake leads me to assume that there's even less care when they're knocked out. 2 stars only because my daughter is fine now but I can't in my right conscience recommend him to anyone, ESP children. read more

I visited Dr Chu for a second opinion. I found that he is one of the best Dr's I've ever seen. He was cheerful, eager to teach me about my problem and discuss my options. No question was avoided; no time was too long to discuss whatever I asked about - a breath of fresh air in the hurry-up world of MD's these days. I have been seeing Dr. Chu for a number of years as has my daughter and her three children. Dr. Chu is always thorough and offers an understandable explanation for any problems I've seen him for. I've had a few occasions when I've taken my grand kids to see him for typical ear and throat issues when my daughter had to work. The kids love him and he always jokes with them. He has always been patient and gentle with the kids. If you need a great ENT for yourself, your family, or kids, you can't do any better than Dr. Chu. read more

I took my mother to see Dr. Chu yesterday. She is 82 and seemed to have lost hear hearing quite drastically during the past 3 weeks. Dr. Chu was outstanding in terms of his knowledge, skill, and inter-personal dealings. He took the time to clean my mother's ear, had the tests done to see the overall hearing, suggested both a short and long term strategy in terms of hearing aids, etc. And finally the cost was absolutely reasonable (since my mother did not have any insurance). Horrible doctor and scary office for children. He shouldn't be working with children and has a terrible bedside manner. When you walk into the office it's like walking into a scary movie with a depressing vibe and stale odors. There wasn't a single toy in the waiting room. The sound proof room for the hearing test was like being shut inside a sealed metal box from 1943. My son is two and was terrified. We went to the exam room to wait and he heard a girl screaming next door. Her screams echoed throughout the office. He got stressed out and scared and didn't want to stay in the scary exam room so he ran down the hallway. In the hallway Dr Chu yelled to someone in his office that the screaming girl needed ear tubes(HIPAA violation?)Dr. Chu then yelled at my son and at us that his office was not a place to play and to get him out of his office. My son was in the hallway not in a private office. Then he grabbed my terrified son by the shoulders to pick him up and move him. My husband told Dr. Chu to get his hands off our son. He did and then kicked us out. I told him his office was a scary place for kids and maybe he should do something about it so the kids aren't terrified. He said my son was the only one crying. I mentioned the little girl next door who was screaming during her exam, and he pointed to a little girl in the waiting room and said "Look! That's her, she is fine." So now I know who the poor little girl is that is getting ear tubes from the rude doctor. He has absolutely no business working with children. He acts as if they were made to be seen and not heard. Yesterday my son had his first vision exam at a new doctors office and was fine, behaved and wasn't afraid so I know it's not my son. Run from this one! read more
