After suffering with SCDS for years, it was time to finally take the step to have it corrected. Elective inner ear / brain surgery is never high on anyone's "to-do" list, but it did afford me the added time of doing a thorough search to find the best ENT Surgeon I could locate. While I was planning on selecting a surgeon here in Austin, I did not limit my search to just this city. I looked in all areas of Texas and even beyond. However, once I identified Dr Kemper, I was confident that I had found the best surgeon for my needs regardless of location. To be brief, Dr. Kemper is a fantastic surgeon. He listens well, explains himself and addresses any concerns with honesty and professionalism. Plus, he's done this procedure many, many times and knows exactly what needs to be done. To say "I trust him" is an understatement. I knew that my condition would be taken care of withit Dr Kemper. My surgery was 6 months ago. Not only did Dr Kemper live up to my expectations but I am happy to say that I am better today that I have been in many, many years. My condition is 100% corrected and there are no residual effects from the procedure; even my 8" scar is invisible and no nerve issues with my skin. I cannot thank him enough or recommend him any higher - he's the best. I would also like to thank his staff for their excellent care. Ironically, my condition required the partnership with an Austin Brain Surgeon who is also "Dr. Kemper". While they are not related, they both worked flawlessly as a team, and I am forever grateful. The worst medical experience of my life. After destroying my hearing, giving me severe tinnitius, and burning mouth syndrome after a fairly routine surgery. He shrugged his shoulders and said "well you just never know how the cartilage will grow". Never, ever let him near your ears. I have been seeing Dr. Kemper since 2009. He performed my BAHA implant and my ear surgeries. I would recommend him to everyone. To be clear, I have not seen Dr. Kemper; however, I'm unable to see him because he's not the doctor that performed my Cochlear implant. I'm simply looking for an ENT physician to put a MRI wrap on so I can get the MRI scan. The wrap is fairly simple, but has to be applied by an ENT physician. Somehow the fact that the implant was done by a doctor in Iowa (this Dr is the main person who developed this implant, which I'm guessing, puts him above Kemper) means Dr. Kemper is unwilling to see me. That is a straw man and disingenuous argument to not see me. This means that anyone with a cochlear implant, who moves to Austin can never see Dr. Kemper because..."well, I didn't do the implant. Your loss, should have known better than to get an implant elsewhere." Such a sorry excuse for a cochlear physician, if he is one. read more

JESUS HEALS This is a specialist my own ENT recommended for consideration and special needs. Having had skull-drilling surgery to no avail, I expected ACTUAL CARE! Instead I was told *doctors aren't magicians* and given a toss-off comment *you can go to Mayo Clinic if you want*. But clearly this was a dismissive attitude to a patient who had suffered over a year! A LARGE CRUCIFIX LAY NEXT TO CHECKOUT AREA (over a foot long!). I don't mind his religious rights: but at least act like a Christian if you advertise it, doc! POSITIVE REVIEWS FOR THIS GUY? They must be written by his fellow church members. I love Dr Kemper! He listens and he does a great job. He did two surgeries on me, and he made sure I understood what was going on . You usually don't wait a long time to see him, and he genuinely cares about his patients. His office staff is very responsive and they genuinely want to help you and care about what they do. I was referred to Dr. Kemper by a partner / ENT of his, after 4 weeks of unsuccessful treatment for viral labrynthitis. Pros: Dr. Kemper agreed to see me at 5:00 pm on a Thursday evening. He spent an hour with me reviewing the history of my illness, the symptoms, the diagnostic testing that had been done and the medications I was taking. He switched up all of my medication and referred me to start vestibular therapy when I was feeling well enough. Cons: During the two subsequent weekends after seeing Dr. Kemper, I had significant recurrences and increased severity of my symptoms. While I was able to reach him through the medical exchange on a Sunday afternoon, and while he did prescribe steroids and a fluid pill, they didn't work, and in fact made my symptoms worse. When I called him again to discuss this, his response was 'well, this treatment works for everybody, so I don't know what to tell you." Also under cons, it is typically a 6 week wait to get an appointment. When you have an inner ear or balance disorder, it's just too long to wait. And that was that. His office continued to give me issues with refilling my prescriptions also--at one point I was told by his nurse to 'get off the meds and believe that you will be well.'. On another occasion, when I requested to be seen due to some intestinal distress related to the dizziness, he told his nurse to tell me that my symptoms 'sounded like classic panic and anxiety', and to 'consider a psychiatrist'. Dr. Kemper is a good doctor, well versed and knows what he's doing. His bedside manner leaves little to be desired. I felt written off and dismissed by Dr, Kemper, and also was made to feel like a junkie for continuing to refill the prescriptions HE HAD WRITTEN ME for symptom management. I would NEVER send anybody I know to him. read more

Dr Kemper is amazing. I am so glad we chose him for our sons cochlear implants. I did a lot of research on doctors in the area and went to several different appointments and Dr. Kemper was by far the best. His staff is also absolutely incredible. They are so helpful and supportive. Even after his surgery Dr. Kemper has continued to follow up and returned our phone calls within 5 minutes even after hours! The first time I went to see Kemper it was a great appointment and it seemed like he cared but didn't really listen very well to what I was going through. Unfortunately I had a similar experience to Kelly's. After my second visit and 2 failed treatments, I was having bad side effects from both meds and my condition was getting worse, he didn't care to do anymore testing to figure out what was wrong but decided to try 2 more medications. One of them I had a bad experience with side effects (I stopped taking it and it stopped) and when I called to tell him (his nurse) about that, he came back with "well that medication doesn't have any side effects so you might look into a psychiatrist." This medication had nothing to do with what I was going through so it didn't make sense even to the ER dr and my pcp. I found out that it's very well known in the med field that there are countless reports of severe side effects with it, and the RX bottle even had a warning section for it. I kept taking it and had an episode where I couldn't hold myself up or walk and I got the same response. I tried to schedule another appointment after I stopped the medication so that he could get an update and maybe look into other possibilities for what I've been going through and I got a call back with "He said that an appointment isn't necessary, there's nothing else he can do for you." Needless to say I haven't gone back except to fax my paperwork for work because my attacks are still happening, which by the way it's $40 for his signature. I'm seeking another doctor after this. I feel incredibly blown off and feel like I've wasted my time and money. Going through what I'm going through, being frightened and counting on him, the worst thing I could have heard was that there's nothing more he could do after 2 minimal appointments. Ugh. read more

Many years ago, I was referred to Dr. Kemper by an ENT who was having trouble managing my vertigo. I've been seeing him ever since. He always takes time to answer questions and is very thorough in managing my inner ear problems as well as other ENT issues that come up. His nurse is always very responsive when I call in with a flare-up. Even though I've moved to the Dallas area, I plan to continue seeing him. I can't imagine finding a better doctor. I recently relocated out-of-state and I'm screwed! Trying to replace Dr. Kemper has been impossible thus far, and Duke hospital is all over!!! I saw Dr. Kemper every 6 months following my surgery until my move; I still need to see someone today because allergies and being sick over the winter have made healing a slower process but I can't seem to find someone in the Triangle comparable to Dr. Kemper which may require my flying back to Austin just to see him! The ticket would be well worth the peace of mind of having someone I know as professional as him fidgeting inside my head. The same goes for his staff! Valery, his assistant, is irreplaceable. Why those other miserable individuals chose careers requring heavy customer interaction which clearly is something they can't stand still remains a mystery to me. I saw Dr. Kemper because of his rep (with which I was already familiar) and a recommendation from a family member who has Meniere's. As it turns out, my own situation is not susceptible to a medical treatment, so there was nothing Dr. Kemper could do, but that was certainly not his fault and I was half-expecting it because I heard a similar story from a different ENT specialist in January. The staff treated me very well and so did Dr. Kemper. I think the testing was superior and more comprehensive than any I have received from alternate service providers, too. And Dr. Kemper's rep for extensive expertise seems to be very well earned. Finally, I don't think they charged me enough. I have never said that about anybody in the healthcare industry, but it's true. I would have paid much more than the bill I got with no hesitation and considered it a bargain. I am posting this review to encourage anyone who might normally be put off by a six-week wait to try Dr. Kemper anyway. As far as I know, he really is the best in town. read more

Dr Kemper has been my mom's ENT doctor for about 2 years now. We were referred to him for her to discuss hearing aids. I cannot say enough wonderful things about his care and the care of his staff. Prior to our initial consultation she was unsure if she would find a comfortable hearing aid that she would want to wear but she was astonished how Jennica, Dr Kemper's audiologist, was able to help her find and fit her for one that she loves. It has improved the quality of her life immensely and Jennica has been such an attentive helpful provider to mom when she needed some minor adjustments. I was being referred to this location by Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). I have purchased my hearing back in 2011 through them. Audiologist who used to work there - Sangeeta Kamdar is not very tech savvy on computer, she did not programmed it right according to my hearing loss. I told her several times that I have hard time hearing and understanding speech in noisy environment, I have also requested her to turn off Automatic mode which is default program as it gives me severe headache. After several trips, I gave up going to her. She did not knew how to turn off Automatic program in hearing aid which caused me lots of headache nor she did not knew how to programmed properly for speech in noise environment. For last 6 years, every time I wore hearing aid, I have to turn off Automatic Program via remote control manually. Last month, somehow plastic tube on one of my hearing aid broke. Sangeeta no longer works there, but another audiologist fixed the plastic tube for $300. Original audiologist Sangeeta promised me that tube will replaced for free for life of hearing aid. Not only the plastic dome is fixed, She removed the Automatic program in few minutes and reprogrammed it very well. I can now understand & hear speech in noisy environment. Lots of Audiologist office fix dome, tube, cleanup for free for life of hearing aid. Furthermore, I was being told on the phone, that it will cost me $75 each ear to get new mold done. After I got the new mold done, I was charged $25 extra for 'Fitting'. If I will need new hearing aids in future, I will choose Audiologist that offer free repair, tune-up, programming for life of hearing aid (not until warranty expires, please look around on search, I see lots of Audiologist does that). My six years of not understanding and hearing speech have gone down the drain. I was being charged $400 for new mold on both ear,fittings on each ear, Reprogrammed hearing aid to gain speech in noisy environment and very bad attitude & customer service. I asked to check if my insurance covers anything, they did not even look at my insurance card and rejected it stating nothing is covered under insurance.I was turned away with bad attitude and poor customer service. I strongly do not recommend this place. read more

I saw Dr. Kemper a few years ago for meniere's disease. The medicines he prescribed did not help. When I told him I stopped a medication because of side-effects, he told me there was nothing he could do for me & his tone went from 'so-charming' to 'not-so-charming.' He loves those who are doing well by his treatment & are grateful. The others are discouraged from returning. I'm not sure he is board certified in neurotology which is necessary for my condition. read more

I was referred to Dr. Kemper by another ENT doctor who said my condition was on the more complicated side. Apparently, Dr. Kemper sees the most complicated patients for the practice. He and his staff were extremely helpful and communicative with me about my options, what to expect, things to avoid post-surgery, etc. I felt very safe with Dr. Kemper, and he called me at the end of the day of my surgery to personally check-up on me. Dr. Kemper is the best doctor I have ever seen. He takes his time and explains things to you in a way that is easy to understand, but never patronizing, the way some doctors can be. He even called me after hours to explain my test results and answered my emails when I had questions. read more
