Saturday afternoon eats, great price and a great variety. We were in town and saw this restaurant a few times while driving around and we had to try it. We are from Vegas so we had to try a buffet and compare. I would say it's better than Golden Corral. It's cleaner. Service is awesome. A good variety of food that's replenished constantly when it gets low. I actually like the way the thongs are hung over each food item so that it's not touching anything and everyone can see which item each belongs to. Price cannot be beat. Every time we drive through St George, we see this place and we were finally able to stop by and enjoy a meal; we were not disappointed. I will preface this by saying that we are fans of buffets and old school 80s/90s eateries. The pricing is very reasonable whether it is lunch or dinner and they have a daily theme, in addition to the normal offerings. The salad bar was very fresh and we were very impressed with the baked goods; from the amazing white roll to the pizza crust, everything we had was good. Do not skip the Utah scones, also known as fry bread in other areas. Desserts are a little lacking in my opinion, there were plenty of options, but everything was a bit too sweet for me. However, they have an old school molten chocolate lava cake that is basically a pudding cake on top of chocolate sauce, which is always a classic favourite of mine, and the rice pudding was delightful. The food here was generally good, but my overall experience was disappointing. My dad is a veteran (was wearing his service hat and speaking directly to the hostess even) but he didn't receive the 10% discount and the hostess seemed uninterested in correcting the oversight. The dining hall was messy, and the servers seemed pretty standoffish or irritated around the other diners. The AC was broken as well (sure it happens, although I wish they had let us know beforehand), so it was hard to enjoy our meal in the heat. The food was fine although pretty bland, honestly nothing you couldn't get better somewhere else (and in some cases for cheaper) to satisfy a specific craving. The Italian entrees and salad bar were okay though. The desserts were pretty dry, overly sweet, and not very fresh-tasting, except for the scones (divine) and bread pudding which I'd recommend. I had to try a buffet if it's called the Chuck A Rama. After a day of hiking, we were hungry for some comfort food at a decent price. Located right across the hotel I was staying, it was full of families and everyone having a good time. There's a chart for different prices for different ages of kids, but they were all very reasonable. The place is very clean despite how busy it was. We were seated pretty quickly despite the line for dinner. Josh was our server and he was wonderful. Josh was efficient in clearing our many plates, refilling our drinks, and making us feel welcomed in a very busy dinner time. There are five main stations at the restaurant. These are what I'm calling it, so it's not the official station names: The carving station, the Italian food section, the salad bar section, the fried favorites section, and the dessert section. The carving section has ham, turkey and I think prime rib. The prime rib was kinda dry, but there is gravy. Definitely get the mashed potatoes, fries and fry sauce. The corn bread was super moist with LOTS of butter melting on top of it. The fried section had fried chicken, sopapillas, and potatoes. All were fresh and hot. The Italian section had spaghetti and meatballs which I found tasty. I was worried it would just be like ketchup, but it was actually seasoned and the meatballs were a good size and moist. The lasagna had mushrooms in it, so I skipped on that. The garlic bread was sliced and not dry. The salad station had plenty of fresh options, but the fun part was the local salads stuff like frog eyed salad (tapioca with mandarin oranges and shredded coconut) 4/5 good, carrot salad (shredded carrots with vanilla cream?) 3/5 worth trying once, rice pudding, like jello and potato salad ( 4/5 the kind mid west auntie would make). I can't find these items back in Vegas, so it's the charm for me. The dessert station had classic favorites like chocolate chip cookies still in the baking tray, German chocolate cake (very fluffy and nut dense) , brownies and cheesecake. It was all good. For the price point of about $20 for an adult dinner, it was great. Lots of options with a high rotation of fresh food coming out and friendly service, this is why buffets can be great. Kudos to Josh who was our server and he was wonderful. Josh cleared our many plates, refilled our drinks, and made us feel very welcomed despite how busy it was. He was efficient and friendly. I finally tried the Utah famous Chuck-A-Rama!! After a few trips visiting and driving through Utah, the A-Rama piqued my interest. Coming from Vegas, a buffet for the prices given here is a steal. The dinner buffet was right around $18-19 for adults and our two kids (ages 3 and 1) were free. We figured this would be a great dinner option after a long day out exploring. There are a lot of options here from the two salad bars, meat station, shrimp and fish, fried chicken, lots of sides, two dessert stations, soup, and drinks you can get as much as you'd like yourself. The food is pretty decent for the price. I wouldn't say it's mind blowing or even THAT good, but for the price, I can definitely eat $20s worth of food here. I personally love the seafood options and the bread. The fried chicken isn't very good, I've been several times and each time it's very dry and flavorless. There are a lot of kid friendly options as well. My daughter can really fill up here for no charge. Service is not good. It's a good thing they have the drinks, napkins, and silverware available for grabs within the buffet line because if we counted on them for it all, we would never get it. We were greeted and asked for drinks after quite a long time, when you are a first time diner it's a little confusing knowing if I can grab my own drinks or not. I asked a server once for a small milk for my daughter and she forgot. The place itself is kind of chaotic and messy. It does take a while for tables to be cleaned off. Food was very low quality. I went for the Thanksgiving buffet and I had a stomach ache after. The green bean casserole was not good. It green beans tasted canned. The turkey had a weird consistency. I usually give places the benefit of the doubt but I've talked to other people and it is a general understanding that you end up at the toilet after eating there. That is unacceptable. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed Chuck-A-Rama's buffet. There were so many options at the various food stations. My particular favorite was the salad bar with more than enough salad toppings and lettuce varieties. Especially having Asian crispy noodles, which I rarely will see at buffets, and love. I noticed the large sign while driving by on 15. Was instantly reminded of the long-gone (but fondly remembered) Campus Chuck Wagon here in San Diego. Note to self: Try this place! It was fabulous! It could be a regular venue for Overeaters Unanimous. Prices were clearly posted behind the register: $15.99 for adults, $13.59 for Seniors, and a sliding scale based upon age for kids. I thought the pricing was quite reasonable, given the inflationary economy we now find ourselves in. OK, the selection is less than Golden Corral, but who eats everything offered? The selection at Chuck-A-Rama was excellent, topped by a fabulous salad bar. One of my trips (after a loaded plate of salad and toppings) consisted of BBQ and fried chicken, with mashed potatoes, which tasted homemade. I won't admit to the other trips, except to compliment the outstanding dessert selection. Supporting regional businesses brought me to this place. Most buffets in California have been shut down permanently, so it was cool finding Chuck-A-Rama on our recent trip to Utah. The buffet consisted of a nightly entree section (our night was American which seemed to be southern food like fried chicken), a salad bar, dessert bar and a carving station with every-night entrees. If you were to compare it to a national chain it would be golden corral. Keep in mind that GC is about three times as large food wise. So temper your expectations of seeing miles of food options. The food quality was on par with GC, with a few items that truly tasted "homemade". While the selection is less here, you'll still find enough variety to keep your belly full.. Look, this isn't a $70 Las Vegas buffet. It's definitely worth a visit though, and at their price point it just can't be beat..
