Ted's Auto Welding & Rust Repair

Our amazingly well-running 2005 Prius hybrid had a seriously rusted-out rocker panel, just ahead of…read morethe driver's side rear wheel well. I showed its problem to nearly a dozen body shops who, in theory, did this type of repair. Because it was a "hybrid" vehicle, with a high voltage traction battery, none of them were interested in doing the welding necessary to repair the Prius's rust damage. They were apparently concerned about the potential liability of damaging the vehicle's electrical system while welding on it. Owner Ted Bibeault, of Ted's Auto & Rust Repair, took a look at what needed to be repaired, and asked me if I knew how to disconnect the Prius's electrical system. I told him I did, and he provided me with a reasonable quote to repair the rust damage. We then agreed several days later I would drop off the Prius. Less than a week later our car was repaired and ready to for me to pick up. His shop's welding and rust repair could not have looked any more competent or professional. Once I completed the reconnection of the Prius's battery I was able to it home. This vehicle has been operating EXACTLY a well as the day I dropped it off for its repairs ever since. Ted's Auto & Rust Repair is a total one-off, and I recommend it without qualification, both for their welding expertise, as well as their capacity to think-outside-the-box in the face of a moderately difficult welding repair, on a potentially difficult "hybrid" vehicle.

Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish…read more I called Monday and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday morning to have four new tires installed and an alignment performed if needed. I arrived at 8:00 a.m. and found about 10 customers standing outside. The doors were finally unlocked around 8:05. At the counter, they didn't want my reservation number. Instead, they asked me all the same questions and collected the same information I had already provided over the phone. They asked me twice what time I needed the vehicle back, and both times I clearly said noon. Noon came and went without a call. I waited all afternoon. At 4:30 p.m., I finally called them and was told my car was only then being pulled into the shop--more than eight hours after I dropped it off. They told me to head over because the work would be completed quickly. When I arrived around 5:30, I inspected the car and discovered that three of my four rims had been scratched and damaged during the tire installation. It somehow got worse. The alignment printout showed that the alignment was actually worse after they worked on it. Several final measurements were still out of specification, including the rear toe, and they handed me the sheet clearly showing the car had not been properly aligned. They also recorded my vehicle's mileage approximately 20,000 miles lower than the actual mileage. That error makes it appear the new tires were installed 20,000 miles earlier than they really were and could create problems if I ever need to make a treadwear warranty claim. So after an appointment that took nearly the entire day, I received damaged rims, an alignment that was worse than when I arrived, and inaccurate warranty paperwork. Completely careless and unacceptable work. Please go somewhere else if you care about your vehicle and want the job done properly. To be continued. I'll update this review after giving management the opportunity to make things right. We'll see how they handle it. 6/21 Update: I spoke with the store manager, who was nice, apologetic, and handled the conversation professionally. He refunded the alignment charge and provided corrected paperwork showing the proper mileage. The store has also agreed to repair the damage to my wheels. That has not happened yet, so I will update this review again once I see whether the repairs are completed properly. I appreciate the manager addressing some of my concerns, but the overall experience still should not have happened. Four new tires, balancing, and an alignment were completed in a very short time, the vehicle was returned with multiple alignment readings still outside specification, the mileage was recorded incorrectly, and my wheels were damaged during the service. The manager's response was a positive step, but the final outcome will depend on whether the wheel damage is actually repaired as promised.
