Very customer service oriented, attentive and an honest businessman. He worked as quick and efficiently as possible when the lobby had quite a few people.. maintained his professionalism and was happy to answer questions and provide advice. I'd keep coming back based off how he handled the lobby of customers. Didn't try to upsell, gave customers options on how to handle their situation and broke down pricing which was 5 star service. Placed an appointment on Friday for 1pm the following Monday for 4 new tires and installation. They called and confirmed. Took day out of work Monday. Show up 10 minutes early on Monday and check in, 20 minutes go by before they even bring my car on the lift even though I had an appointment. Another 15 minutes later they tell me they don't have my tires. Wasted a days pay, and an additional hour of my time. On top of that it's 3-5 days till I get my deposit back and I now have to take another day out of work to go to a different tire shop. Tires are easily available online I would've ordered had I known. Why confirm an appointment if you don't have stock. Absolutely ridiculous would not recommend to anyone. read more

We brought the car 2017 Chevy cruz in on dec 12th to have it inspected. The car needed 2 new tires and to clear the check engine light the master air flow sensor had to be replaced. It was $875 for all that including the inspection. We picked up the car 2 days later and the new tire was flat (thankfully we looked before driving it or it would have ruined the new tire). We waited 20 minutes and they replaced the valve stem. However the check engine light was still on. They said to drive it 60 miles and when it shuts off bring it back for inspection. The engine light turned off but then came back on the next day. We brought it to Autozone and their machine said it was the master air flow sensor. We bring it back to you on Jan 10th and the guy said according to the notes you never replaced it but noted that it needed replacement. We paid to have it replaced yet it never was! The car is now at the shop yet again. Apparently it has been changed but the check engine light is still on so you still cannot inspect it. Your mechanic said they will try to drive it to reset it but cant promise anything. We live in warwick so we had to drive up to Smithfield now 3 times. It'll be 5 times by the time everything is said and done. I have been bringing my car there for many years and always recommended melvins to everyone. I work at Amica (remotely) and recommended Melvins to tons of amica employees. I will now do the opposite. The attitude from the mechanic was terrible. When I asked to now see the old part because I am now not trusting theyre replacing things when they say they are, he got an attitude with me saying they wouldnt not replace something if they said they did, but that is literally what happened back in December! I have been bringing my cars there for over 15 years now and this is the first time I've had issues like this. Very disappointed!! read more

I was cordially greeted by a very pleasant gentleman, and when I told him my purpose, he referred me to another very pleasant gentleman, who explained things clearly and made suggestions which I thought made perfect sense. Told them my problem and they were able to get me in right away.It turned out that I had a nail in my tire. They were able to repair my tire. Sept 20 I had my oil changed at this location. Shortly thereafter I developed a oil leak from my automobile drain plug. Returned to the location to have them repair the leaking plug. After 2 hours of waiting room sitting the Technician told me that they had NO OIL to replace the oil drained from my automobile. I usually dread going to auto repair shops - most of the shops I've been to have terrible customer service, are over priced, and try to convince me to fix brand new parts on my car that don't really need fixing. I am relieved to have finally found the complete opposite of all other auto repair shops! My tire maintenance light went on today. I have nitrogen tires, and was looking around for nitrogen tire inflation services. I called 9 different tire shops, all of which said they didn't offer nitrogen tire inflation. I called Melvin's Tire Pros and they not only offered nitrogen tire inflation, but also offered it for only $6 a tire! (My friend paid $70 for 4 tires of nitrogen inflation at a dealership) They even took me in same day, and I was in and out within an hour. The prices were so reasonable, and the customer service was phenomenal. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. My husband noticed while shoveling that the front driver's side tire on my Highlander was VERY flat. The tire pressure light had been on for a little while. Even though it was a snow storm, Melvin's in Smithfield was open. They said to come right in. Rudy is the guy who seems to be in charge of the front desk. He is awesome! We have dealt with him before and he recognized us from previous work we had done there. (Husband bought 4 tires in early November) They took the vehicle in and in about an hour it was ready. Although Rudy said they would like nothing better than to sell us a tire, he said it was not necessary. They rebuilt the tpms kit and showed us the parts they took out to show corrosion in the valve stem, and that's why there was a slow leak in that tire. When I got back in my vehicle I noticed that my glove box had been fixed. It had been hanging partially open for quite some time and we couldn't figure out why. I went back in to tell them I appreciated that extra effort. I believe that "Bruce" was the mechanic/tech who worked on the tire and sure enough he had noticed the glove box problem and fixed it! I came to buy 4 new all-weather tires with a four wheel alignment and originally was going to give 3 stars because I never received any of my tire pressure caps back and I brought my car in at noon to pick up when I got off of work at 5 but when I got there it still wasn't done and I ended up having to wait about 20-30 more minutes but the service was nice and welcoming. Fast forward less than a week later and I was driving back from Christmas vacation when I had to pull over because my tire started bulging and we had to change it with the spare. I called as soon as I got back home because obviously it was a defective tire and they got me back in there right away and had me out within an hour. He didn't even make me come up to the counter again and explained the problem and fixed it. I really want to recommend this place, the staff is friendly, the area is clean and easy to get in and out of, and the service is fast. However, without consent I was charged $17 for a headlight bulb and $15 to install it! I wish someone would have called me because I would have done it myself for $3. It literally takes 2 minutes with my car's easy assess to the bulbs assembly. For this reason, I can not recommend this company. Any company that clearly takes advantage of the customer without their consent and over charges you for parts and labor is one not worth your service. Update: The owner Melvin personally contacted me and issued a full refund for the part and labor. He was extremely apologetic and truly sorry I was charged for an unauthorized service. My spare tire was in like new condition but the rim was vert rotted out: So I brought my spare and a new rim to Melvin's tire in Smithfield, and they were great. took them only minutes to change the tire over, they even balanced it and put a new cap on the valve stem. they didn't charged me even one cent for the work. Never have I wrote a review, but I need to for this shop. DO NOT GO. Went in a week ago to get a starter replaced. Firstly, they took three extra days to get the job done for all sorts of reasons "we're backed up", "short staffed", "computers are down". The day they did install it, didn't even call me about the price. The price was over a 100% mark up from the original cost of the part. Costed $122.99, they charged me $389.99 before labor. Went to go complain and they had no record of where they bought it, what the SKU was, nothing. All I got was a part number. Told them if I had gotten a call on the price I would've done research and not gone through with it, they said there was nothing they could do. Didn't even acknowledge not talking to me about the price and brushed it off. Go to Honest Mechanix, or any other shop.
