We celebrated a Sosrority Sister's birthday yesterday at Grille. The Rest reservations are a breeze! The man who greeted us acknowledged it was a birthday which was a nice touch. We came at an odd time of day at 2:00 which is kate for brunch and all they serve at that time is brunch with dinner starting at 3:00. Our server did a great job and was kind, helful, and proficient. Brunch is boring to me and frankly, I'm bored of the Grille menu. I wish they would offer more seasonal offerings, although they did have a card with two dishes printed on it, one of which was a salmon BLT. I thought they missed the mark on not having a Grille on Main branded birthday card signed by the staff for my friend since I included that information on my reservation. Hubby, in-laws, and parents all came here following our Bible convention and it was the best ever! I ordered the redfish with pickled slaw and parmesan grits - everything paired so nicely. Hubby had burger and fries as a classic. Not pictured was my parents' two orders of short rib which was so flavorful and melt in your mouth! Chef's kiss for sure on that. In-laws had side ordered and baked chicken which they also enjoyed. This was my second time at Grille on Main. Each time I ordered the same dish...trout. Each time it was consistent with freshness and taste. The lamb chops were huge and tasty. I don't always do dessert but tried the cheesecake. It is delicious. It is made fresh and it is obvious. It is light and not overly sweet. I ordered the NY strip cooked medium. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was well prepared and flavorful. The green beans were way too undercooked and the mashed potatoes had no flavor with a consistency of baby food. I'd love to show you a photo of the lobster tail I ordered, but the servers forgot about it under the heat lamp for at least 20 mins. It was tough and covered in enough Old Bay seasoning to render it too salty to eat, so I sent it back. Service was average overall. If you want to charge $40+ for a steak and $24 for a lobster tail- your service needs to be on par and having a single dish inedible is the kiss of death. I definitely won't be back under the current management. I could've had a better meal at a chain restaurant like Outback. One final thought- they initially sat three grown men of average build at a booth meant for two people. We asked to be moved to a table and they did, but it was clear they weren't happy about it. read more

It wasn't very busy, and although we initially came for the aesthetics, we opted to sit outside given the pleasant weather. **Pros:** The establishment looks nice aesthetically, and sitting outside offers a pleasant view of the fountain and hanging tea lights, adding a nice ambiance. **Cons:** The service was mediocre. The hostess sat us promptly and gave us food menus but neglected to provide drink menus. We were later told by our waitress that they don't offer a drink menu for the lunch crowd, which seemed odd, but she brought us out a couple anyways. Our waitress was competent but somewhat lackadaisical. It took her longer than expected to bring our waters, and after serving our food, she didn't check on us until the end of the meal. The food was okay--not great, not exceptional, just okay. I ordered the Crispy Brussels, which were good but not the best, and the street tacos. The braised beef tacos were juicy with no complaints. This is a beautiful restaurant. We went for lunch on a Saturday and the place was nearly empty. The ambiance is very elegant and upscale. Our seating arrangement was in a booth in the main dining area, but it still felt very private. They have ample seating--indoor and outdoor, and even have a private dining room; so this place would be perfect for a private party. The main attraction during our visit were the warm biscuits with honey butter. Everyone in our group really loved them. I ordered the Fried Green Tomato BLT. It was a good sandwich. I've never had fried green tomatoes before and still enjoyed this. I would say it is a little on the drier side, so I would recommend ordering an extra side of the aioli because it really needs more sauce. I also really liked the parmesan fries that came with. They were delicious. My husband ordered the Black Angus Burger and he really enjoyed it. It was flavorful and cooked well. My kids ordered the grilled cheese and cheeseburger. They were very generous portions. The staff was also nice enough to switch out one side of fries for fresh fruit. It's not usually offered with the kid's menu, but they made the accommodation for us. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and the food is good. Would love to return and try other things on the menu! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Do not waste your hard-earned money here. I took my boyfriend out to celebrate a work milestone and was genuinely embarrassed. The halibut and blackened redfish were both incredibly overcooked. The halibut was bone-dry and completely flavorless, and the mashed potatoes were dry and crusty. The "blackened" redfish was a solid brown slab of disappointment--literally, the whole piece of fish was BROWN. GROSS! I've had better fish at Captain D's. I wanted to send it back, but my boyfriend just wanted to leave. Then came the cherry on top: after we left, the manager called claiming we were given the wrong tab and tried to charge us more. When he realized he was wrong, he hung up. No apology. No professionalism. Just audacity. Overpriced garbage food and management that treats customers like an afterthought. This place somehow manages to be expensive, incompetent, and rude all at once. Hard pass. Avoid! read more

Very nice restaurant on a fountain square along the beautiful street of Providence Main St. We ate outside on one of their patios. My ribeye and manhattan were very good. Husband had the flounder with crab meat on top. It was covered in cheese sauce so much that he couldn't taste the fish. For that, I would give them 4.75 stars. Lovely day for a morning brunch. We sat outside with a lovely outdoor patio, heating for cooler days & out of the sunshine. We enjoyed the southern man's club sandwich with Parmesan fries & the Two egg breakfast w/ hand cut potatoes, bacon, and toast. My mother loved the toast (ask for jam) & enjoyed their peach Bellini. Took my wife out for an anniversary lunch, lured in by the appealing ambiance from the photos. Overall, I wasn't greatly impressed. The service was good, but a few odd things stood out. First, we asked to sit outside and were placed right next to the only other people on the patio. After asking to be moved, we weren't given drink menus because, apparently, that's "standard practice" for the afternoon crowd. Eventually, we got our drink menu and ordered. My Old Fashioned was good and well-portioned, perfect for the afternoon. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was tasty, and our waitress kept our water glasses filled. Now, the food. I ordered the Angus burger with Parmesan fries. The fries barely had any Parmesan, and the burger was greasy--standard pub fare at best. My wife's tacos, on the other hand, were good and had a nice kick. Wish I'd gone with those. 3.5-ish/5 but I can't round up. :/ Had some extra time this week on Wednesday to try out a new spot and this wound up being the selection. I'd heard fairly mixed things about this place so I was glad I was able to come for lunch, as dinner is a bit too pricy for me to risk spending that much money on a so-so meal and I'll never get up early enough to head out to Providence for brunch, lol. GoM is in the old Grille 29 spot, a somewhat nostalgic restaurant for me. It's a Boyce restaurant (think Cotton Row, Commerce Kitchen) so it serves comparably ritzy American seafood, steaks, and other dishes. They weren't too busy around 11:45 on Wednesday, so the polite hostess offered me my choice of booth, table, or patio seating. Despite the rather warm weather, I selected the patio. It's a nice patio, comfy and inviting with decent views of the rest of Providence. The only detractor from the atmosphere was someone seated at a table near mine ordered some sort of fish dish and it came out smelling...not awesome, and strongly enough I could smell it at my table. This might bother people who like fish less than it bothered me. My waiter was Seth, or at least it was per the check he gave me -- names are hard to remember sometimes, lol. He was prompt and polite, if maybe a tiny bit awkward. No worries, he did a fine job. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT for my lunch. I had my choice of Parmesan fries or a side salad, and I chose the fries. It came out in a reasonable amount of time. Ultimately, I feel conflicted about the dish. I think it was really pretty good, flavor wise, but the portion and ratio was just kind of...off. There was a TON of lettuce (enough I removed a few leaves), and not a ton of bacon. At this price point, I was expecting some kind of impressive, smoky, thick cut applewood type of deal, but this was ordinary, kinda wimpy strips -- to the point where on a couple bites, I was left wondering where the bacon even was. It was cooked well at least. The fried green tomatoes had good flavor but were cut way too thick, imo, and wound up dominating the sandwich more than they should have. On the bright side, the bread stood up well to all the toppings, and the pimento cheese was delicious. Less lettuce, thicker/more bacon, thinner FGT, and you'll have yourself a winner here. Lastly, the fries...just kind of annoyed me. Fries are my favorite food and I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, the fries I was served were frozen fries, maybe Ore-Ida. They were cooked well, and the Parmesan jazzed them up, but they were ABSOLUTELY not fresh. Had that vague mealy texture and bland taste I associate with freezer fries. No potato skin to be found anywhere, extremely uniform, etc. As far as freezer fries go, they weren't bad, but...come on, at this price point?? This is what I'd expect of a small mom and pop meat and 3 with 30 other side selections to worry about, not one of the fancier restaurants in town. When comparing my fries to pictures other reviewers posted, they don't look quite the same. Maybe I came on an off day, but regardless, it wasn't cool. Idk. I feel like I'm coming across pretty harsh. Service and atmosphere was solid. The sandwich was just a few small adjustments away from being really good, so there's hope here, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to risk $18 at lunch again. read more
