There's barely a sweet flavour and there's a lot of peppery spiciness. The salmon is also much tougher and I even found some small bones in a few of the pieces. It is good value for $9/half lbs of candied salmon and it's nice that they vacuum seal it for you when you buy it. FINAL VERDICT: After tasting the maple syrup candied and smoked Sockeye candied salmon variations from Vancouver, BC's Granville Island market, T&J just doesn't match up in terms of freshness, quality, or flavour.

Out of the Blue was the perfect place to go! They even have a family deal with a variety of fried fish and a ton of fries. Service was friendly and efficient. Our meal wasn't quite ready when I arrived for pickup, so they offered to bring it out to my car (probably to avoid congestion in the storefront with COVID restrictions, but still a nice touch). We ordered a pound of mussels with garlic sauce, crawfish with lemon pepper sauce, and a fish teriyaki dish with seafood assortment. I loved the garlic sauce, as it gave the mussels a great kick. I wouldn't recommend the crawfish, as they don't have much meat. I felt like I was just nibbling the shells for the sauce. However, the fish teriyaki was a solid choice. Overall, it was a filling and tasty meal, and it came out to less than $20 per person. With so few customers in the restaurant, service was relatively prompt, but I would recommend more frequent water refills, as the sauces were quite salty. We had to personally wave over the waitress in order to get water. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend Captain's Boil if you enjoy seafood like I do. Glad they opened up in London!

I've travelled quite a bit to Sarnia on business. I've heard from local colleagues that I should try Halibut House Fish and Chips. What drew me was the fact that they served haddock as one of the fish, and I have had fond memories of haddock fish fry. My colleague and I went there the other night and we really enjoyed our dinners. Both of us tried the haddock (and I also tried the cod which was also excellent). I loved the accompanying cole slaw which was not mayonnaise based, but vinegar based. The fish was a very large portion. It was not greasy (because they fried it at a high temperature), and it was flavorful. Lots of other places don't pay much attention to frequent change out of their fryer oils which take on a bitter taste and will be imparted to the food. That's because the structure of oil has changed from their use. This was not an issue at Halibut House. I didn't notice any after-taste. My compliments to the crew for paying attention to these details. The batter was very light and it complemented the fish, which was very fresh. As the frequency of my travel there is increasing, they can count on my future visits.
