Wow ! What a refreshing place from my earlier visit as Irene's ( breakfast spot) Beautiful new interior design . Friendly wait staff . Luan came to visit tables to meet diners / customers We both had the halibut and fritts . It was a great large plate , 2 pieces of delicate large halibut fish , bowl of fries , small cups of ketchup and tartar and a larger bowl of house made creamy cold coleslaw . I had a beer and my young wife had a glass of red wine . Simply the best fish n chips in last 40 years or more .Certainly not any thing like the triangular high liner type fish in freezers and at some restaurants It's not huge , so perhaps call ahead for reservation ( 10-12 tables ) There's many other seafood dishes do it's not limited to fish and chips read more

Best meal in a long time! Everything was fresh, high quality. Wait staff was fabulous. We had Luan's platter, fried halibut, and a chicken sandwich. Mashed potatoes and green beans were as good as the seafood. The outside of the building doesn't look like much but inside is warm and tastefully decorated. After trying many fish & chip joints here in London, this is the decided favourite for take out! My go to order is the 1 piece halibut. (Comes with 1 massive piece and 1 normal piece of fish & generous portions of chips). Their portions are value for $. Nice batter that's not heavy, homemade tartar sauce. Fish is always super hot when we pick up. Coleslaw is extra (even though their dated website says it's included - I think it's included if you dine in). I also like the gravy for the fries. During Covid they're bringing orders out to you if you ask. read more

We live in the area and have been going here since it was Irene's. There are not many places anymore I'm willing to give my money to when eating out but this is one that never lets us down. Since the change to Luan's the decor has been updated and the food remains very very good. We won't eat Fish and chips any place else in London and we have tried them all. We just had a delightful dining experience this evening. The restaurant is cozy and you can easily carry on a conversation with your guests. We were promptly seated and our server was very attentive from the start. We all enjoyed our calamari appetizer. The calamari was flavourful, tender and served with a tasty sauce. I had Luan's seafood platter. The Halibut, shrimp and scallops were crispy and delicious! Coleslaw was homemade and fresh. The French fries were crisp on the outside and soft in the middle (not at all greasy!). My guests had New York Steak, Greek salad, which was crisp with shredded feta and Seafood pasta. The NY steak cooked to medium, was tender and juicy. The Seafood pasta had a lot of shrimp, rich and satisfying. We had a piece of lemon meringue pie and the server put a candle in it so I could make a wish! The chef came out and asked if everything was to our satisfaction. It certainly was and if you want a great dinner, this is at the top of my list! read more

Unreal inexpensive breakfast! This restaurant has the best bang for your buck. The quantity is more than enough and for a great price. If you arrive before noon their special is $5.25 which is your basic regular breakfast. Even their hungry mean "big breakfast" is under 10 dollars... all the while still maintaining great quality. FYI - not ideal for large groups - this restaurant although great food has very little space. There might be 6 tables in the whole establishment all cramped together. This is usually fine because not a lot of people are aware of this place. read more

As I continue on my quest for great English style fish and chips, it was confirmed to me again today that Irene's Seafood restaurant has some of the best in London, Ontario. This restaurant has long been a favorite of mine, and after a 4 year absence (mine, not theirs), it was like meeting an old friend. The restaurant itself is small and quaint, with friendly and helpful staff. There are a variety of other items on the menu besides seafood (grilled chicken, rib-eye steak sandwich, etc.), but this is the place I will invariably go for good fish and chips. I should note that the chips (french fries) are not the best I've had, but the generous portions of the halibut more than make up for it. read more

We only had take-out but the staff were thoughtful even during our short interaction. I suspect that the reason why there aren't more Yelp reviews may be due to the demographics as opposed to the food. The crowd seemed to skew to the elder set; perhaps that age group might be less inclined to use Yelp. It was packed when I was there. Fish and chips were quite good. Next time I might try one of the specials that looked delicious. Don't try to access it from High street. There is parking on Wellington. You could also pull onto Chester from Wellington if popping in for takeout. Prices are comparable to Walker's. Our bill was $37 for two people. read more

Everything was tasty and exactly like I remember from over 10 years ago when I came here...if anything actually slightly better than I remember. Definitely will get more of my business. read more

OMG this place is good. Second time we have gone there because we live out of town. Was just as good the second time as the first. I got the fish and chips because thats what I had last time and it was so good. More than I could even eat. My wife chose to try a hamburger. She said it was the best she has ever had. Go figure a fish & chip place could make a gourmet burger. The waitress was fast and courteous even though the place was packed and only her taking care or everyone. She was amazing. Our food was very hot and delicious. Will definitely be stopping there when ever we are in London again. Keep up the good work guys. It is noticed. read more

This place is always amazing. Very small and definitely family owned but the food is always a hit. I've been there before COVID and during and the quality is the same. Their coleslaw is AMAZING. Always a good experience at Irene's. I've been going here since I was in public school and I've always enjoyed my meals. The fish is always fresh and served with a smile. My wife and I went 2 Irene's the other day, we havn't been there 4 a few months and I craved fish and chips, so off we went, when there and seated, we both ordered, my wife had the halibut and rice and a beef soup, which I would not eat in a seafood restaurant, I keep asking if they serve a chowder, always the same answer no, the owner is not interested in making chowder, even though its asked 4 quite frequently. I ordered the cod fish and chips amnd a small salad, when asked what kind of dressing, I replied I would like the dill dressing, which they were out of, so I settled 4 balsamic dressing, When our orders arrived, nice and hot by the way, we dug in, my cod was delicious, and so was my wifes halibut, we both like their fish because they know how 2 prepare it and their is no greasy taste whatsoever, however since we. been eating there previously on a more frequent basis, they changed their method of making their fries, I pretty sure they were previously fresh cut, alas no more, it's a shame, because they now serve up the worst fries ever, if your serving fish and chips, you better make sure your fries taste good. I am pretty sure they no serve frozen brand fries, you can tell the difference you know, the frozen ones always come out tasting dry and tasteless, but unfortunately I don't think the owner cares, I noticed new menus and higher prices, so I not 2 surprised ay these moves, but sacrificing quality is not the same. Very unsuspecting little place from the front, but their food and service is good. They focus on fish and chips, but offer a few other seafood choices, as well as many sandwiches/ salads, and a small breakfast service. There are no more than 10 tables inside, but the decor is clean and cozy. While I was there, they had take out orders rolling in non-stop, so it must be a neighbourhood favourite. Worth a try if you're in the south end. read more
