Went their today. Got fish and coleslaw and baked beans. Everything was delicious except the coleslaw. It appeared to be bad could not eat it. Needs thrown out. Never got anything bad their before------In reguardes to owner comment. I live 20 min away did not open this until I got home. This should have been checked before it went out to any customers.But if this had been tasted before hand we would not have a bad review. I will still eat there. Chuck's is a very different sort of place. It's like someone dropped a BBQ restaurant onto a diner. Everything I've had there ranges from OK to very good. I've never had anything that wasn't at least reasonable good. I've never had any one thing that's blown me away but that's OK when i can be pretty confident that I'll like anything I have there. We took a little road trip on the weekend & I always enjoy trying restaurants that are small business owned so I searched on Yelp & found Chucks BBQ! There were 3 listed but this one's menu showed we could buy sandwiches only if we want; I didn't want a ginormous amount of food. We ate here for lunch. We got the pork bbq sandwich. They put this nasty garbage they called "chow" on them. This nasty stuff was some disgusting "relish" and they put it on our sandwiches without asking. Other than Larry's in Christopher, IL; we've never heard of "chow" being served with or on our food. "Chow" to most people just means 'food' or a 'meal'. But there are a lot of really strange people and ideas in Southern Illinois... this must be one of their nasty creations. The food was NOT EDIBLE with this vile slime on it. We asked for sandwiches without this crap but they wanted to charge us double; saying that this stuff is normal and expected at "any bbq joint"! No, it definitely is NOT. I've never been asked about this or served this crap at at least a HUNDRED bbq restaurants that I've visited as I drive across the US in my rig over the last 30 to 35 years. Was craving catfish and just saw on Facebook that Chuck's had great catfish. Didn't think about a bbq place having catfish but thought I'd give it a try. Do glad I did. Chucks has been around Herrin for years. Always delicious food and great service. My favorite here is the bluegill and catfish dinners. They taste beyond amazing and the potion size is HUGE! I've also had them cater a birthday for us before. The BBQ was prepared very well and they supplied all the food we need, it was a great success. I been going to Chucks for a long time. Most of my experiences have always been good. Even as a child. But the last time I was there I ordered a sliced bbq special, and a Cheeseburger special. It was 15 min before they closed but that normally that wouldn't matter. I had ordered my cheeseburger with everything it was plain and it was raw on the inside not even warm ! My husband's bbq looked like it had been ran over by a car and our frys where cold. I called and they told me they turned off there grill and could not make another but insisted I bring in the sandwich because they would really like to see it. Like i was lieing when i just didnt want to come up there with out getting a replacement. I don't have gas to show you your mistake. I know one the manager so I sent pic and let her know how rude and awful my experience was but never even got a reply. It was disappointing. read more

Absolutely terrible! My wife and I went though their drive-thru and ordered two fish sandwiches and two sodas. We ordered onions on the sandwiches and tartar sauce on the side. When we picked up our order, we found two pieces of hard, overcooked fish on a couple of dead burger buns, NO onions, NO tartar sauce. We didn't even receive everything we asked for on the order. To add insult to injury, we paid $18.03 for it; $9.00 A PIECE for dry, overcooked fish, on a wilted burger bun, without the condiments ordered. Never again. If the locals want to throw their money away on this place, more power to them. I can think of MANY other restaurants much more deserving of my dining dollars. read more

This place came very highly recommended by a friend. I was visiting from out of town and meeting a friend for breakfast that I hadn't seen in several years. The breakfast menu had a great variety from breakfast burritos and omelettes to traditional breakfast plates. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and very affordable. My friend and I stayed nearly 90 minutes visiting. The waitress never once hinted at being irritated. She filled our coffee and water as needed and was very polite and courteous the entire time. The decor was very appropriate and the atmosphere was your typical diner-type of atmosphere. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about Chuck's BBQ. They have great sliced BBQ and their Hamburgers are like Grandma used to make. If you like two week old meats, molded chili, and microwaved reheated food then this would be the place to go. Not worth the 30 bucks I spent here. I clearly saw them reheating my food in the microwave and my husbands bbq was dried out and old. I saw the employees looking into a container of food completely disgusted and then came out to inform a table near me that the chili they ordered was taken off of the menu, I then later heard the employees saying "I can't believe we served that all day, it's covered in mold!" That should have been enough for me to get up and walk out, but I was hoping it was just a common mistake. Unfortunately it was not. I have been in here prior to this and the food did not taste so fresh the first time. The employees are rude and the whole experience was absolutely dreadful!!!
