When I visited in July, live dungeness crabs were the catch of the day but changes per the fishing season....tuna, halibut...etc. The captain fishes at night and sells his catch that very morning until sold out. The prices were super reasonable too. What a great place to pick up some fresh/live seafood and cook it up at home / campsite. The Charleston Marina is a beautiful boat basin lined with fishing vessels and crabbing boats where you can walk as well as crab off the docks. This is a must stop if you are in the area.

I also truly regretted not getting a dozen. The rich bowl of oyster stew came with 2 large fried oysters on top. Wow! I added oyster crackers and a little Tabasco. A bite of oyster, a spoonful of chowder, dip the oyster in the chowder. Repeat. What an experience. This is an oyster place but my SO's shrimp and chips were not to play second fiddle. The batter on the fresh snappy shrimp was about a thin as you could get without having batter. Very good coleslaw. The fries rivaled Five Guys fries (which I hold in very high regard). We were given a tour of the business, complete with family stories, a shucking lesson, free samples, some inside knowledge, and good laughs. This family business is all about great service to the retail buyer, which was my wife and me! The ambience of the "factory" was eclectic and fun. With was filled with tons of random family items. On the side of the building were literally 100 tons of oyster shells. We ended up buying 30 oysters at the amazing price of $1 each. He threw in a few extra samples as well. The oysters we bought were harvested a few hours earlier from the cold waters o Coos Bay. The salty brine was perfect and the oysters were so French and firm. We will go back tomorrow and buy another couple of dozen. This was the highlight of our Oregon trip so far, which has been a great trip. (Qualman Oysters is now called Augustin Oysters.)
