Fresh bread
Courtney L.

I have wanted to try Chuck's chowder for some time. Today we stopped by and the chowder was decent, but a little thick. No where to sit but loved the fresh bread to dip in the chowder.

Fresh oyster, lots of oysters! This was my happy place during a recent trip to the coast. Very friendly folks and fresh seafood. Aside from oysters, we tried their smoked octopus, oyster sticks, both jalapeño and regular salmon sticks. Everything was delicious. We had to stop by on the way home to get their $30 for 5 dozen oysters. It's definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.

Clam Chowder

Very mediocre clam chowder. Not much going on here.. honestly couldn't tell it apart from store-bought canned clam chowder if I had to try. Honestly, save your money if you're coming here for the clam chowder.

The best clam chowder I've ever had. It was surprisingly thick, filling, and delicious.

They are very knowledgeable about what they have and have great seafood at competitive prices.

How much is a case of tuna fish shipped to Los Angeles?

How do we get the cost of shipping canned Albacore to San Diego? Currently it costs half as much as the product. Ugh…

About a mile off the 101 in a little inlet sits a hidden gem called Clausen's Oysters. We drove up…read morearound lunchtime and there was no line. From the pictures and reviews I had seen, I expect a line 12 deep going out the door. Was I missing something? I ordered a 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell and a large oyster stew. I was given 8 oysters for my half dozen (I didn't ask, they didn't tell). The oysters were a delectable briny delight. I had two plain, two with their blackberry mignonette sauce, two with their cocktail sauce/tabasco, and two with lemon/tabasco. I truly could not decide which was the best way. I also truly regretted not getting a dozen. The rich bowl of oyster stew came with 2 large fried oysters on top. Wow! I added oyster crackers and a little Tabasco. A bite of oyster, a spoonful of chowder, dip the oyster in the chowder. Repeat. What an experience. This is an oyster place but my SO's shrimp and chips were not to play second fiddle. The batter on the fresh snappy shrimp was about a thin as you could get without having batter. Very good coleslaw. The fries rivaled Five Guys fries (which I hold in very high regard). The table next to us raved about their fish and chips, but they can write their own review. On the way out, I asked the oyster master at the counter if he knew what a hidden gem they had there. He just smiled. He knew.

Fun spot! Order at the counter and grab a table inside or out (with the crows). Only improvement would be the shucking seemed to loose the juices of the oyster. P.S. some of the best fries we've had!
