Let me start by saying I love the food here. I've been coming to chucks restaurants since before the fire in Burbank. Last night we sat at a high top across from the bar where you can see the tvs in Darien. The waitress got my order wrong multiple times and was very slow to check on drinks so I was done eating my main dish before she could come back and check on the sides. Also, Including our dessert, banana bread pudding, which is also great. And that's kinda the problem. We asked for the desserts to go. They were brought out for dine in. When the bus boy took them back, all he did was put them in to go containers. I could see the melted ice cream on the slices and asked that he make new ones as I knew they would be soggy by the time we got back to Frankfort. This complete confused him and after trying to explain the reason I just gave up as he was not getting it. Sure enough, melted ice cream and soggy bread pudding by the time I got home. Ordered carry out. Ordered a bowl of gumbo - the bowl was in a small container - not very much at all. Contents was mostly broth. Ordered 1lb of brisket. Received three small containers of bbq sauce - containers were maybe half full. Everything was very good - disappointing that their carry out quality has gone down. read more

I wanted to write an updated review. This restaurant is honestly my favorite in the area. Everytime I have a friend from out of town visit, I take them here. From their consistent delicious bbq to varied specials, this place is amazing. I have enjoyed beer/food pairings, trivia, bingo, and other various events from here. Went here on Saturday 7/29/23 with a group of friends for breakfast and I had the Hungry Man's omelette and seasoned potatoes....both amazing! The omelette had different kinds of meat that each complimented the other and it was perfectly seasoned. I don't usually rave about omelettes (I've had plenty), but goodness this one is worthy! And the potatoes...nice big chunks, seasoned and texturally perfectly and nicely browned without being dry. I had the biscuits & gravy for my bread option...this was just ok (will not be my choice next time). We also ordered a side of the spicy brisket hash...same delicious seasoned potatoes with added small pieces of brisket & jalapeños...it was good, but it was basically just individually cooked items mixed together that lacked a bit of cohesiveness I'd expect in a hash. I've also been to the location in Burbank & have never been blown away as I was at this location. This location is nicer, bigger and more contemporary than the other one. And our waitress was also super attentive and friendly...can't remember her name but had the cutest glittery eyeshadow! I had been wanting to try this place for many years... I am SO glad that we gave it a try. Meal started with 2 fresh, warm, chewy sized rolls that weren't so big to ruin my meal. Drinks were soda and a ginger peach iced tea for drinks. Ginger peach iced tea was very good. Meal was half rack of ribs, mac n cheese and coleslaw. Hubby went with the sampler, 2-meat place, pulled pork and brisket, baked beans andandouille sausage stuffing. Mac n cheese was super cheesy and gooey, as opposed to the more liquidy kind. It was all cheese, all the way. So good. The baked beans had really good flavor and were above average. The andouille sausage had bits of the sausage and flavored with sage and herbs. The cole slaw was not great, the flavor was fine, it was just too dry for our taste. Brisket was tender with good cuts of meat and the pulled pork was not greasy or too dry, it was a perfectly moist pile of flavorful meat. The ribs were large, thick cuts of ribs, with a ton of tender, fall-off-the-bone meat. The mild bbq sauce was really good with some kick of a flavor at the end, not spicy, just a spice we couldn't place. The ribs were to die for! Their North Carolina BBQ sauce is some of the best I've had ever. Not too runny or sour, just a nice blend of thick bbq sauce flavor balanced with the tangy vinegar flavor I love. Chucks is now at the top of my BBQ spot list. We had enough leftovers for at least two more meals. Service was hit and miss. She came quickly to give us drinks, but then we weren't ready to order and it took forever for her to come back again. Food came out super quickly, I had barely eaten my roll. She came to check on us once, but then it took forever to get her to bring the check, bring takeout containers and collect the check. Always a good experience. Bloody Mary was delicious as was the Spice My Apples cocktail. We had the habanero corn chowder soup which still had a flour taste to it (bummer). I enjoyed Chuck's for he most part. Our server was very good and the drinks were fine, but the food has some work to do. The wings were good but far too breaded. Overall they sauce the hell out of everything which just isn't needed with proper BBQ. Ribs were smoked well but again way too much sauce. A thin layer if sauce during the last 30 mins of smoking is all you need. Its clean and has a nice atmosphere. Overpriced for the food quality for BBQ. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Chuck's it's nicely decorated, big booths for 6-8 people, clean and separated from the bar area so you can talk without having to speak over tv's and those people who are at the bar area. The waitress was great and efficient. Waters and a basket of buns with butter placed on the table. I ordered the rib tips, it came with 2 sides; I chose Mac and cheese and Cajun seasoning fries. The portions were large and I was able to take food home. The rib tips were great tender and the mild bbq sauce hit the spot. The Mac and cheese was creamy with a good cheesy taste and the seasoned fries were crispy with a good Cajun taste. My husband selected the brisket sandwich. He barely talked as he enjoyed his sandwich which was a good size and the bun held together well. Everything was good and the place was a plus! We will be back and give this Cajun restaurant a try. In my opinion, the food is awesome, but the service was down right rude. I get it, they are short staffed... With that being said, if you go make sure to stay away from the server named Anne. We go to chucks a couple times a month, but everytime she is our waitress she is just rude. Last time I was paying online with my phone (cool feature) and she hovered over me. So my kids wanted to go to chucks for bbq... it is sad my kids (7 and 10) already said she is rude when she came up. She had me write down my drink order which was the weekly flight special... seriously? So I use the app to pay and as I am leaving with my family, she comes up and in a snide tone goes are you ready to pay now? Like I am gonna dine and dash with my kids. I wish I didn't tip her 20%. St Patrick's Day 2023 We went to Chuck's today for corned beef and cabbage traditional Irish food. We really looked forward to it. When we got there we learned they don't have irish soda bread. They replaced it with rye bread!!! &21.99 a plate for corned beef, cabbage , potatoes. (High) I got a corned beef sandwich $16.99 and a side of cabbage which they charge extra $2.00. The corned beef was very good but I think that that shouldn't charge extra for sides it should have been included. Also there should have been traditional Irish soda bread. Stopped here for breakfast on Sunday morning with another couple. Were seated fairly quickly. Waitress was friendly and fast but it seemed she had been given several tables in the large dining room. She was good at moving from table to table but it led to feeling rushed on decisions from menu when she got a chance to stop at our table. Everyone else ordered a few different skillets and I ordered the banana French toast. Overall, they enjoyed their skillets but everyone used hot sauce to add seasoning to them instead of just enjoying the flavors. This is not normal for our friends or my husband but they all said the skillets needed a bit of a oomph added to them. My French toast was blah, they use their special bread for the dish but it seemed like the egg batter was just lightly brushed on the bread and then seared, not submerged in batter and cooked through. The middle of the bread was still room temp and just chewy regular bread. I would not have bothered with getting French toast had I known it would be that way. We really enjoyed the food here. Not a "fancy" place but the food is very good, the sides were well prepared, and the choices are plentiful. We were in the area for a wake and needed dinner. We had another restaurant initially planned but ended up giving Chuck's a shot. Wow! We would be here a lot if we lived nearby as we love Southern/Cajun theme to the menu. My son had a Cajun Shrimp Po Boy, my wife had the Catfish Po Boy and I had the Catfish dinner (avoiding those extra carbs). Everything was great - the Catfish was also excellent reheated. I cannot speak to the Shrimp but the Catfish breading had a buttery taste to it with a decent crunch; this is not a batter dipped fish, it is a cornbread breading instead. First time at this place and we love the Cajun section of the menu - will have to go back to try more dishes. The Jambalaya was great value and nicely spicy, and the gumbo was hearty. The brisket fries were heavenly. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly. The restaurant has lots of parking and is nicely decorated with New Orleans symbols. Can't wait to go back! OMG! The cafe de la holla is so delicious with its rich cinnamon and clove flavor! It had a holiday feel. It's like the coffee version of mulled wine (gluwine). I had to come again a second time in the same weekend to have more. Both breakfasts i had were delicious. The first time i had the mexican skillet. Decided to go to Chuck's Southern Comforts for dinner since we hadn't been in a while. The last visit was very pleasant even though it was busy and one waitress covered a large section alone. This time was NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE. After sitting the waitress came over almost before we settled in. Ordered beverages (Pina Colada and water- not difficult at all) as we asked for a couple of minutes to look over the menu. Waitress came back after a couple of minutes and we placed our meal order. Sound good so far? No beverages, so reminded the waitress - she said she'll be right back. In the meantime, about three more tables were seated...still no beverages. Waitress attends other tables a runner comes to the table with our food. Still NO BEVERAGES! Waitress brought other tables (which were seated after we placed our dinner order) their beverages. At this point I get the waitress' ask her to cancel the Pina Colada, but we Still wanted the waters. She says ok, then walks away. We observe the waitress go into the kitchen, go to other tables, go to the area where the "take out" boxes are, take boxes to one table and then another table. She then went back into the kitchen and when she came back had several tickets for the diners ready to pay. She even has a diner check out on the hand held device. She then visited two other tables. At that point I (customer) got up, walked over to where the "takeout" boxes were...got boxes for our food and put our food in the box. Went to the front and asked for our food ticket at the hostess desk. The guy at the desk ask if there was a problem...As I began telling him a woman asked me what happened (I guess she was a manager, however not identified). The "explanation" "the waitress is new." New, or old....how difficult is it to bring beverages to a table? We observed it multiple times as she waited on other tables. Want to know how the "manager" handled it? "We will comp your Pina Colada." How do you "comp" something you NEVER RECEIVED? read more

I came here with a friend. I really enjoyed the patio. It was quant and fun at the same time. The server was great! She was very responsive and regularly check in on us. We tried a few different BBQ dishes. The ribs had a good texture and taste to them and they offered a couple of sauces. I preferred mixing them together (sweet and spicy). The vegetables were a delicious side option. The fries were not my particular favorite as I prefer fresh cut. We both had the sangria and enjoyed it as a refreshing drink while outside. read more

Really glad I got to finally check this place out, several friends had said good things about. It's pretty easy to get to, right of I-55 Cass Ave. ext. I got the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich, very good, with lots of meat. They have a wide array of BBQ options, but also other options as well. I didn't get any sides, but the ones my friend got all looked real good. They have a great craft beer selection, I was really impressed. I got to try 2 that I had never had before, which is unusual for a non craft beer bar. They had plenty of outdoor patio seating with tents, and a big parking lot. It's been years since I have been to Chucks but I've never been to this location. This place is great! I stayed over at the bar section. I loved their selection of hard Cider and even featured a Mead. The atmosphere was cozy. I tried one of their BLT sandwiches which was cooked really great. Bartender was really nice. I was really happy to have spend a couple of hours here. Parking lot seems to be always packed as well. read more

Ordered rib tip dinner, the ribs tips were as hard as a rock. I Ordered 2 sides a baked potato that came out cold and clearly old, for the second side I ordered mixed green vegetables, which also came out cold. They did replace the potato it was hotter, but still as old. They also, replaced the vegetables that did come out warmer. I asked for a refill of water which I never received. After paying my check, I asked to speak to a manager, to tell them know the chain of events. I was told by the manager, I did see the waitress replacing your potato and grilled vegetables, but no apologie. I said why should that happen to begin with, she said it shouldn't, but again no apologies, she said she was going to talk to the cheif. All and all poor service and food. I remember in the 90s when Chucks was a small restaurant on the corner of 79th and Central and the food and service was always great. It saddens me to see this happen. The manager did give me a $15 gift card, in case I would like to try again. Honestly, a good gesture, but didn't make up for what took place. read more
