I truly cannot express my gratitude to the Churchtown Inn staff for the experience I went through with them. I had originally booked a 2-night stay with them for my parents as a combined Mothers Day gift/Dad's birthday gift (around May/June). My father was sick with cancer at the time, and between hospital visits and treatments, my parents seriously needed a little getaway. However, due to my dad's illness, it was often very difficult to set dates for them -- every day can bring something new and unexpected. I had to call maybe 4 times to reschedule the stay -- each time, the staff being so incredibly empathetic and kind. There was never even an ounce of frustration from them, each time telling me 'not to worry' and checking in on my Dad. There were calls I had to make in which, after confirming the dates and my name, they would immediately ask how my Dad is doing and wishing my family well. I couldn't believe they remembered who we were, and had it in their hearts to ask about him! Well -- we fell on some very difficult times and lost my father in August. We had most recently moved their reservation to September, so we very quickly had to reassess. My family decided to gift the 2-night stay to some incredibly supportive friends of ours, but when I called and spoke with the staff -- they could immediately tell something was wrong, and once again hit me with the utmost empathy, kindness, and patience. They immediately offered to issue a full refund, but instead, I asked them to just change the names on the reservation and we gifted it to some friends. I truly couldn't wait for my friends to visit and tell me all about their stay. They had nothing but wonderful things to say! They told me that the staff was so generous and kind, the room was stunning, and the local hiking trails were absolutely beautiful and worth even just a day trip from where we live in NJ. They enjoyed everything about their stay! And they said the food was just divine! They said it's definitely a place they would return to, and I cannot wait to pay a visit myself and see all the things Churchtown has to offer in person! I can confidently say that based on my experiences with the staff just over the phone, this is a wonderful establishment who is deserving of all the success. Churchtown is #1 on my list i'd like to actually experience in person, and I surely cannot wait to do so!!!! read more

This has been our second time staying at the inn. The first time was at the Covered Bridge Cottage last summer. Our hosts Chris and Jim are so kind and thoughtful, and Chris is an amazing chef! She even gave me the printed recipe for her scones. Breakfasts were just heavenly. Five courses and totally different each time, made us feel like royalty. They were also so helpful about finding us dog-friendly places to go with our pooch. Lodgings are clean and quiet. I recommend Chris and Jim to everyone I know! I find comfort in buildings with a long history and this 18th century inn and its owners did not disappoint. They provided clean, comfortable accommodations and OUTSTANDING home cooked meals. It's a beautiful building, Chris and Jim were wonderful hosts and the location was perfect. If Lancaster is where you're headed this is a great place stay while you're there. read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet? We've come many times over the past two years to visit my husband's family in the area. We have a dog, and they have dog friendly rooms. We also now have a baby! Chris and Jim are so accommodating and Chris is the BEST cook with the most gorgeous and yummy breakfasts. I look forward to the granola every visit. We love the Churchtown Inn and feel like a little piece of the family here. We can't wait to come back again. And again and again! read more

I came here back in September of 2011. There was no yelp site for this location at the time so I was unable to leave a review. Although we did have a nice time here, the breakfast was great. The staff/ owners were friendly as well. However, I feel that there could've been more available to do in the area.. Or at least more information on what we could do. We did get to book through the inn to have dinner at an Amish house with authentic Amish food and with an Amish family which was an amazing experience in its own. My other complaint is that the rooms to stay in felt a bit outdated. I felt that it could've kept the theme of what the house was but still should've had a more comfortable bed and linens that didn't seem like they were over 8 years old. It almost felt as if you had to stay over at a grandparents house where they kind of stopped maintenance on their house. The carpets and floors seemed kind of old and dingy as well. The sign for the building isn't very noticeable either... Which means I drove past it a few times. It was also a bit annoying to have to come in and out a certain way later at night. I did not book during the murder mystery although it seemed interesting. I just stayed during a less eventful weekend. I feel that with a proper renovation to the rooms that this place could have an even better experience to stay at. read more

Had a lovely stay here. Jim and Chris are very warm and helpful - their guide to what to do and where to eat locally was extremely helpful. And I have to mention the AMAZING 3 course breakfast included in the cost of the stay! They could open a restaurant, seriously. And for what you pay for the rooms, a great deal. The outdoor patio in back is great for sipping wine and hearing Jim and Chris talk about their Amish and Mennonite neighbors - they are very knowledgeable about those cultures. The only downside is that it is a little off the beaten path in a TEENSY town and the main roads don't really go there, so when sightseeing it can take some map reading to get back efficiently. But that also means it is nice and peaceful, so not a downside in my book. read more

I just spent the weekend at the Inn with my girlfriends from high school. The place is absolutely gorgeous with all the Christmas decorations. Chris and Jim are very sweet and fun to chat with. The food was phenomenal!! Everything freshly made and served hot out of the oven. We stayed in one of their quaint cottages. We had a full kitchen, living room with T.V., 2 bedrooms and full bath. The first room had a queen sized bed and the second had a king and twin bed. Great for a family or if you want your own little home away from home! I definitely plan on returning in the spring!! read more
