We had our breakfast (cooked exactly as we wanted) in the Sun room and chatted with fellow guests from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. When done with breakfast, Raquel and Juan joined us in the sun room where we chatted about all sorts of things. I couldn't have felt more at home anywhere else. I took a trip to…read morePennsylvania Dutch country and found this place due to its awesome reviews, and now, after having stayed there for three nights, I see why everyone has been so glowing. Here are a few of the reasons that I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Manheim Manor: -Todd & Lorene: These two are truly some of the most gracious hosts you could ask for. In addition to just genuinely being nice and thoughtful people, they are also full of history about the home, the area around Lancaster, and more. When more guests were coming in the other nights and parking was getting tight, Todd called me to let me know a special place I could park in the back of the house. They are engaging conversationalists and make it a pleasure to stay here. I had mentioned to them that I was a cyclist and hoped to find some nearby biked trails, so Lorene printed out trail maps for me that I ended up using the next day to go on a ride. -The room: I stayed in the Peaches & Cream room, which has a great screened-in patio that made for a wonderful place to sit outside and read in the evenings. This was really one of the selling points for me as I wanted to stay somewhere where I had some private outdoor space, and this fit the bill. The rooms at the Manor aren't huge, but that was totally fine as I didn't have that many things with me anyway. The bed was quite comfortable as well, and despite the traditional nature of the home, they also had a Roku for streaming, which I ended up using one evening for Hulu. -The house and history: Built in the late 19thcentury, Manheim Manor is an exercise in historical exploration, in the best way. There is a downstairs library with a great collection of books ranging from Shakespeare to mystery books that I read as a kid (Nancy Drew, anyone?). There's an upstairs library of VCR tapes that brought back memories from just looking at the covers. Lorene took me on a tour of the house and showed me a variety of interesting historical points in its various rooms. The property also features a great outdoor seating area in the backyard. -The food: This is really a high point! In addition to being an innkeeper, apparently a great handyman, and many other things, Todd is also a refined chef and makes culinary creations that wow people every day. From the blueberry pancakes to the orange scones to the broccoli and cheese quiche...wow! Having been very fortunate to have visited many a highly regarded restaurant across the world, I can easily say that Todd's breakfast rivals some of the best morning means I've had in Paris, Tokyo, and beyond. There is also a great collection of tea and many other things that make breakfast at Manheim Manor the best part of waking up. Now for the bad...I don't have anything to say. I always try to have one point that's not overly positive so that my reviews seem more "real," but I honestly can't think of anything that isn't glowing to say about my stay. Lorene and Todd are wonderful, and all the other guests I met during my stay were friendly and neighborly as well. I have no doubt that upon my next visit to the area, I'll stay here again.

Let's start with the top 3 things that make this little secret (not so secret anymore) stay one of…read moremy favorites: Indoor Pool Quiet (location and # of rooms) Amazing Breakfasts Honestly, during COVID times... what can you ask for besides a small stay with only a few guests WITH an indoor pool in the middle of winter; less exposure and lost of fun for the kids. Don't get me wrong, the grounds are nice as well, but we were usually stuck by the pool I have been trying to drag all my friends with kids to Sue's place since my friend and I discovered back in Oct (?). It is just a wonderful place to come to. The B&B is a house with 4 rooms (5th as an add-on to another one only) and a enclosed pool area that has picnic seating and lounge chairs, hot tub and entry lounge area with a dining table that we used to eat dinners and lunches by the pool. The rooms were pretty quiet - the downstairs one is ADA compliant and ok for pets, but we loved this room most because it was open to the pool area. Just keep in mind that this room tends to run colder than the other 3 rooms in the house for those of you who are sensitive to the cold. Above the pool-side room is what I like to call "honeymoon suite" it has a nice bed area with deck overlooking the pool and upstairs bathroom (i didnt get to try all those fancy buttons on the whirlpool tub, but I did end up having a tri-head shower along the way) The other 2 rooms are smaller, but one has an en-suite and the other has the hall bath with the option to book the room next to it for bigger parties. Do you know what else is nice? Sue leaves the Netflix and Amazon logged in on the TVs - I did not have to go through the annoying task of loading all of my accounts on and trying to remember to log-off when I was leaving. It is a really nice touch. Let's move on to my favorite part - THE FOOD. Holy smokes Sue can cook. Sure, I love her fancier meals, but the more homestyle, comfy ones area just... wow. I feel about 3x bigger just saying this. She will keep feeding you if you are still hungry (Don't judge.. I did get seconds almost EVERY time). She has a little refrigerator and though to stock it with drinks (who ever remembers to bring bottle water anyway?) and freezer with ice cream (the kids went nuts). Sue also leaves out the Keurig and a baked good on the table so you can help yourself to your ever expanding waistline as you relax in this quiet little retreat. I've been to some of the most incredible B&Bs (stuffy and not quite-so), but as nice as those were, I felt like I could put my hair down, relax with the kids, and just ENJOY my time with them as the pandemic raged on outside what felt like "home" to me. Carol is an accomplished chef, creating incredible breakfasts that include fresh fruits and fresh-from-the-henhouse eggs (not to mention delectable golden raspberries from the backyard). After breakfast, Steve will let your children take part in feeding (and walking) the young, hazelnut-loving goats and healthy chickens, and even taking a tractor ride around the well-landscaped, rolling hills of the property. The house is extremely clean, well-appointed and welcoming. Say "Hi" to the adorable young steer "Calvin" in the front pasture too! A gem of a place run by an excellent couple.

After seeing the location description, OF COURSE I checked Yelp. Here is the short of it: Carol and her husband are wonderful hosts and their home and surrounding land are very, very well maintained. There are animals in penned areas on their 5 acres, their house is pretty traditional décor and with its additions, rather modern(ish). This is their home and not specifically a "working farm" like Verdant View or like an Amish stay - which we loved because we were happy to have nice accommodations without overwhelming fragrances and allergic reactions to hay (we found out on this trip that one of us is VERY allergic and big baby about it). Lots of views to take in and things for kids to do during the morning. The long of it: The house sits on top of a hill overlooking hills in the back and farms in the foreground past the new subdivision. The driveway to their house is lined with trees (very picturesque). The home is spacious and a shoe-free site. You can put your shoes on the trays outside on the porch (complete with gliders and chairs with views to the tree swing (cute) and play structure (Super tall slide and swings) and a tether ball area. The farm-ish part: They have a horse to ride (Lilah). My daughter LOVED this part the best and was obsessed with the horse for the remainder of the trip. They also have goats to walk and feed, 1 sheep, chicken coop with lots of hens to collect eggs and feed, and kittens to hold were some of the penned animals here. The produce being grown on their 5 acres was fun to pick (my daughter went crazy on their raspberries - well, as much as a 2 year old can, at least) We were expecting to have a farm stay, and although the house is located on 5 acres with animals and produce gardens/fields, it is really more like staying in a nice house that is more on the contemporary side. We stayed in the Kwanzan Room (aka like the Cherry Blossom tree that has tons of puffy pink blooms). This room was perfect for what we needed - we had 2 rooms and a shared bathroom between those two. One room had a king bed and a Pack 'N Play in the closet and the other had a queen with a bunk (my son was so thrilled, he ended up wanting to stay on the top). The bathroom had plenty of towels and Carol refilled the disposable cup holder and took out the trash during the day while we were out - nice and surprising touch). The sheets were super soft and the beds were comfortable - no complaints here. My daughter leaned backwards (hard) towards the door - so she kind of fell into the door when she learned hard and the stop wasn't strong enough to stop her from pushing the lock into the wall making a small dent. Carol was forgiving and surprised that my daughter could do that, but my son can attest to how strong that little squirt is. The Kwanzan rooms did not share a wall with other rooms so it was nice not to share noises. There were 2 other families with little ones that weekend... so it was nice to see that the noise didn't travel far. We didn't go out on the back deck, but we wish we had.. the views were beautiful from there. We were parched from our long ride without potty-breaks, but we didn't an area where water was easily accessible (not that we asked either), but I am sure Carol would have given us some had we asked - she is kind of the wonderful host that way. The coffee-addicts that we are, we were snooping around for coffee again around 11 and it was put away, but Carol quickly gave us new mugs and did that wonderful host thing she did (she probably was not expecting people completely fueled by caffeine - lol) The breakfast: Carol can make some amazing things. Breakfast 1: Scrambled eggs (good), French Toast (yum), Fresh raspberries from garden (amazing, of course), tomatoes with lite Italian dressing and parm (my son only wanted plain tomatoes - it could have worked either way.. the tomatoes were sweet), baked oatmeal (really good), sausage (i forget which brand this is, but it tasted like the one that is precooked and vacuum sealed in rows - easy for quick cooking, but causes that rubbery feel... I used this for a party once and for a way to do a quick breakfast. It is not the best tasting sausage, but certainly not terrible. OJ & water on the table and coffee in the kitchen. Breakfast 2: This was my favorite - Egg frittata with cheese, green beans (individually halved= tons of work and probably garden fresh.. amazing), apple crisp (this is the best one I've tasted in a long time), Tomatoes (again with dressing and cheese - good), chocolate chip pancake and blueberry cake, BACON - this disappeared so fast, but Carol had a new plate right away. It was all delicious.. That Apple Crisp is something I still dream about.

I truly cannot express my gratitude to the Churchtown Inn staff for the experience I went through…read morewith them. I had originally booked a 2-night stay with them for my parents as a combined Mothers Day gift/Dad's birthday gift (around May/June). My father was sick with cancer at the time, and between hospital visits and treatments, my parents seriously needed a little getaway. However, due to my dad's illness, it was often very difficult to set dates for them -- every day can bring something new and unexpected. I had to call maybe 4 times to reschedule the stay -- each time, the staff being so incredibly empathetic and kind. There was never even an ounce of frustration from them, each time telling me 'not to worry' and checking in on my Dad. There were calls I had to make in which, after confirming the dates and my name, they would immediately ask how my Dad is doing and wishing my family well. I couldn't believe they remembered who we were, and had it in their hearts to ask about him! Well -- we fell on some very difficult times and lost my father in August. We had most recently moved their reservation to September, so we very quickly had to reassess. My family decided to gift the 2-night stay to some incredibly supportive friends of ours, but when I called and spoke with the staff -- they could immediately tell something was wrong, and once again hit me with the utmost empathy, kindness, and patience. They immediately offered to issue a full refund, but instead, I asked them to just change the names on the reservation and we gifted it to some friends. I truly couldn't wait for my friends to visit and tell me all about their stay. They had nothing but wonderful things to say! They told me that the staff was so generous and kind, the room was stunning, and the local hiking trails were absolutely beautiful and worth even just a day trip from where we live in NJ. They enjoyed everything about their stay! And they said the food was just divine! They said it's definitely a place they would return to, and I cannot wait to pay a visit myself and see all the things Churchtown has to offer in person! I can confidently say that based on my experiences with the staff just over the phone, this is a wonderful establishment who is deserving of all the success. Churchtown is #1 on my list i'd like to actually experience in person, and I surely cannot wait to do so!!!!

It was a comfortable stay and the space itself was furnished both comfortably and beautifully.

One of the downsides is that it seems a bit pricey compared to other places but as mentioned, maybe they upcharge because of location. The main inn is more expensive than the Farmhouse or Carriage house so we stayed in the Farmhouse. The downside is neither the Farmhoise nor carriage house are connected to the main inn where you check in. On the bright side, breakfast at the restaurant is complimentary with the overnight stay. Our room at the Farmhouse was very cozy. Not all the lights worked, nor did the night light, so someone should check those. There are dual sinks which I really like. The weather during our stay wasn't very good but in good weather, you can walk the grounds and around the pond which are pretty nice when the weather permits.

When looking for hotels in the area the Fulton Steamboat Inn came up. We were very intrigued from the moment we saw it online. Wow, we were not disappointed. We arrived at night and as soon as we rounded the corner and pulled in all three of us said "wow". It was that beautiful! A steamboat designed hotel inside and out! There's a small lake with ducks, a playground, a fire pit area, and a nice seating area. They have a restaurant on sight, but we did not eat there. They also have a small gift shop. They did a great job at keeping things looking clean. The free coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies were a nice touch. They had the place beautifully decorated for Christmas. We plan to stay there the next we are in town. We have already recommended the place to several people!
