Glad we did today (and what a special occasion it was) It's a small family-run Peruvian restaurant, with a limited menu and they also have "specials". We ordered - Fish Milanesa: breaded Tilapia with salad: it was good. 3.5/5 Baby Back Ribs - Their seasoning, it's amazing- 4.5/5 Salmon: it was a little bit disappointing - After the first bite, you can get the feeling that the fish was not that fresh, otherwise preparation was good. - 3.5/5 Shrimp Iza: shrimp sauteed in Garlic/spinach- it was good (but less in quantity), only concern shrimp were not deveined (Ideally they should be) - 4/5 Ok, all the dishes- Salt was on the higher side, I understand sodium & salt makes you eat more, but each item-it was salty, except that the food was good. Ambiance-wise, yeah it's a good, small cute restaurant, Peruvian paintings hanging on the wall. We visited Churrasco Grill and got the opportunity to meet Chief Jose. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The service and food was excellent. The blend between Peru and Argentinian cuisine was unique. He took the time to offer his night specials and provided great suggestions that were very tasty. The ambiance was fulfilled by traditional Argentinian music and hand-painted pictures by his daughter, providing rich historical values of the restaurant's values. The desert was also great, and he also enjoyed explaining how his wife makes deserts from scratch. We highly recommend this place and would love to revisit it soon. read more

Great little place. My wife and I discovered this place several years ago and loved it. Unfourtanetly we haven't been back so we decided to revisit. We brought our daughter here for her birthday this evening and we're so glad we did. We live nearby so we have been here quite a few times. The food we had tonight was fresh and delicious. The empanadas appetizer is a favorite. For entrees we ordered the lomo saltado, short rib, shrimp w/risotto and sea bass. Even our 7 year old grandson tried and loved all of the food. We finished our meal with cookies and chocolate cheescake; the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I wish I could comment on quality of food but in order to do that I would have had to been served something. The dish I ordered never came. After all my guests had been served I called the waiter and asked where my food was. After looking up my order he looked at me and said we don't have what you ordered tonight. I asked him whether he thought hevshould have come over and told me they didn't have what I ordered but he just looked like a deer in head lights. To further add insult to injury my colleagues and I also raspberry tea which was listed o the menu. That never came either and when questioned hecsaid they dudnt have it. But again the waiter never bothered to tell us that they didn't have it. I spoke tonthe manager about the issues and his response was like, sorry no big deal. An extremely unprofessional response. Excellent food and personal service by Jose, the owner, who is pleasant and knows your name and what you like after one visit! The food is amazing and seemingly made to order-for the most part! The restaurant is small and BYO! The steaks are delicious and so are all the sides. I especially enjoy the empanadas! Baked and crispy! Better make a reservation for Fridays and Saturdays. If I wasn't desperately missing Argentinian beef since being down in that country, I don't know where my rating would be. But among all the various Latin American rodizio-style meateries in North Jersey, this is the only one that offered some hint of Argentine authenticity. My friend and I got seated by the oven, which gave me a fine show of meat and sides being fired all night long. (Tip: Get a reservation if you're coming on a weekend. This was spontaneous for us.) Service was a bit of an issue, but given how packed the place was, I understand why there was a lag in some regards. Water service wasn't too bad, but at the end of the night, it was not easy to wrangle a check. Very Argentine, except this is actually New Jersey... The food: Well, my takeaway was thus: "If I'm craving Latin American grilled meats, at this price point, I'll spend a little more and get the AYCE rodizio. A lot more meaty satisfaction." Nothing bad here. The churrasco came out rare, maybe toward medium rare as it sat, but as ordered. I swapped the grilled potato (in the end, it's still a potato) for the fried yuca, which is actually croquettes. Hard to tell if homemade or not. Potatoes are authentic, just too much potato for me. The chicken "palliard" (beggar's chicken?) was thrown on the grill paper-thin but came out flavorful, according to my friend. He enjoyed his rondo skewers. I enjoyed getting back to throwing chimichurri all over my meat - once you're in South America, it just calls to you at times. I thought the alfadores were better than the ones I had down there. Softer dulce. So... I don't know. I don't see the great call to come here. Once I'm in my car, there are other places I could go. If I lived in Lake Hiawatha, I'd certainly walk here instead of drive elsewhere, so that's an endorsement of sorts. And I don't really have anything negative to say at all. You'd never know it by looking at this tiny storefront place, but this is a quality restaurant that brings back fond memories of steakhouses in Buenos Aires. The churrasco (skirt steak) is authentically prepared and very flavorful. The ribeye was thin but well-prepared. (Thin ribeyes are so often overcooked, but this one was not.) The octopus appetizer was cooked to perfection (another dish that is so often overcooked), and the gazpacho was delicious. We got the Friday take out specials. Empanadas, the shrimp Iza and the Pernil pork. All were delicious. Empanadas go well with the sauces they gave us. Only bad thing is that we needed more sauces. The shrimp Iza had 12 shrimp and lots of garlic which was delightful. The Pernil was good with the onions. Still tasty but the apps blew us away. Very satisfying. Churrasco Grill, a great little Argentinian/Peruvian restaurant in Lake Hiawatha today for our Friday Lunch Crew. Following some shared apps including Beef Empanadas, Shrimp Iza over Spinach & Yuca & Grilled Sausage with Long Hots (all highly recommended) I had the Bistec A Caballo (very good). Others had the Lomo Saltado, Churrasco & Lomo Sandwich. (Attached pictures tell it all). Homemade Rice Pudding and Biscotti to go along with our cappuccinos rounded the meal off nicely. Great stop! This is another one of those small, friendly, comfortable family operated restaurants which boasts a wood charcoal grill. The Owner/Chef/Host, Jose, could not have been more cordial or attentive to our group and it was great to have him join us for a while for a glass of Fazzio's home made wine. Was my family's second time there and just like the first time, the food was divine. Also I didn't care how full I was from the Asado but the little Alfajores dessert is my go to here. You will meet the fantastic people who bring us this food from their hometown. It's BYOB, so grab what you like next door (Argentinian Malbec seems to be a popular choice). I had my first blood sausage and sweet bread here. Had I known what it was, I probably would have never ordered it. It is always a pleasure to dine in this small family ran fine eastablishment. They have a dining area in the front and a courtyard for outdoor dining that I have not seen yet. We shared an appetizer of Cerviche that had flakey pieces of fish prepared in a zesty citrus marinade served with thin sliced red onions over grilled baked potato wedges and romaine lettuce. We ordered a side of fried yucca which is like a potato, but a little denser in texture; it was prepared to golden crisp perfection. For the main entrees we ordered the Halibut special that came with a mix of sauted lettuce and broccoli and a half grilled potato, and the Mixed Grill that has a mixed of chicken, pork beef, and sausage with a side of dressed fresh tomatoes with thin sliced red onions also a half grilled potatoe. We were here about 2 years ago and had less than a stellar visit. It was the middle of the summer and about 80 degrees in the restaurant. Our entire experience was overshadowed by the heat. We couldn't eat much because we kept drinking water to cool down. I've been dying to come back to try the food and have a better time. We were greeted by the owner and seated early for our 6pm reservation. It's a byob so we love that. We started off with fresh rolls and butter. Appys were grilled sausage with a long hot pepper and shrimp iza. We loved both. Sausage was perfectly cooked and had a nice spice flavor. Shrimp was in garlic with fried yucca....yum!!! Entrees were filet, which was ordered as medium, but came out as medium rare. Sirloin was perfectly cooked to medium well. Pork chop special came with marsala mushrooms and was devoured. My salmon was spiced on the outside and had a great flavor. Sides were potato and greens with broccoli. Overall, we loved our meals. Although the food came out slowly, we weren't in a rush so we didn't mind. Everyone agreed that we will be back soon. read more

We shared an appetizer salad of Mixed Greens with sliced Avacado which was light, creamy and crisp with a nice hint of balsamic vinegar to add some tang and sweetness. I had the Sea Scallops with Vegetables and a substitution of Risotto instead of Potato. Scallops and Vegetables were cooked and seasoned to perfection and Risotto was rich and creamy with sauteed spinach folded in. Churrasco has all the right things on the menu for me, and the prices were reasonable. The staff brought out free empanadas which was very nice. But I felt the whole time that the food just wasn't cooked with the attention or flavor that is expected. I had the mixed platter which came with four different meats, and they were all just lacking for me in having good flavor. We also had the ceviche which to me was another example of food that just wasn't prepared with much care or without the right recipe. I hate to give 3 starts to a family run place but I just didn't enjoy the meal like I would have hoped. read more
