First time at this Chuy's with mixed results. Service was good. I ordered the Chuychanga and ninja'd the usual rice and beans usual sides. I changed out the rice and beans for fries then for the sauce for my Chuychanga, i got queso. Bam...Instant cheese fries. The Chuychanga arrived and for a minute I thought i should be reading my fortune as it literally looked and had the texture of a fortune cookie. Definitely over cooked. The fries were hot and crispy and the queso was good so the cheese fries I created were not bad. We went to this restaurant for the first time about a week ago for lunch. The atmosphere was pleasant. I ordered the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas and my spouse ordered a burrito. The food was lacking flavor and it was disappointing overall. The chips and red salsa was good but and our server did a great job by checking with us often. I don't think we'll be coming back though. I've been coming to Chuy's since before Elvis was scrubbed from the menu and before covid ended the free queso bar. I'm a serious Mexican food lover and can say without a doubt.. if you're looking for authentic Mexican food you wont find it here. However, if you are looking for fun Tex-Mex then you'll love it. The first thing I fell in love with was the Elvis Fried Chicken (now named Green Chili Fried Chicken). I'm not sure if Chuy's got sued by the Elvis Estate but thankfully the name change didn't actually change the dish. It comes with a chicken breast breaded with Lay's potato chips & fried to a golden brown, served over green chile sauce, topped with cheese, served with Mexican rice + refried beans. Its bonkers delicious but the green chili sauce is a tad on the spicy side so if you're not great with heat.. maybe leave it on the side. I've since graduated from the fried chicken to regularly ordering the "The Kings Memorial Combo" which comes stacked with a seasoned ground beef enchilada topped with Tex-Mex sauce, a chicken enchilada with tomatillo sauce, a cheese enchilada with ranchero sauce, a crispy beef taco, homemade tostada chips dipped in queso, served with Mexican rice + refried beans. I know that sounds like a lot.. and it is... which is why I love it. Another notable mention would be the steak burrito which is labeled as "Big as Yo' Face" for a reason. Its a monster sized burrito meant to be eaten with a fork that comes with a flour tortilla stuffed with delicious grilled steak and jack cheese, topped with hatch green chile sauce, served with Mexican rice + refried beans. We make a point to sit in his section by the bar every time we visit because he consistently makes the experience outstanding. Miguel is friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel welcome from the moment you sit down. He keeps everything running smoothly, makes great recommendations, and somehow manages to be right there whenever you need something without ever feeling intrusive. Sigh.....another meh review. Went in for lunch on a Thursday. I was one of 3 tables but the service was non-existent. The server, while nice, didn't know the menu or drink specials. Once I ordered she never came back again until she showed up with the bill. Never asked if I needed another drink or a refill for water. Never asked if I wanted to order anything else, never asked if I wanted dessert (not sure they even have dessert). The food was alright. Not great not awful. The 1 drink I was able to order was WEAK!!! I question if it even had alcohol in it. After I was finished eating it was another 10+ minutes before my server finally showed back up and dropped the check off. I never asked for it and would have ordered more. The atmosphere is a lot of fun and the portion sizes are great for the price. We started with the house salsa (spicy) and our waitress brought some ranch out that was quite tasty. I ordered the comida deluxe and was able to take home leftovers to make 2 meals out of it. It was a good amount of food for the price. I can't say the flavors blew me away or anything but it was fine. My husband and his friend ordered the Elvis Presley special which was actually a LOT of food. They enjoyed. The margarita was tasty and the prices were reasonable. I didn't like the boom boom sauce at all. I guess I was expecting something totally different with a name like "boom boom". If you're on the fence, try it before you order an enchilada drowned in it. We had great service but the food was just a little lack luster for me. Oh Chuy's, how I wish I could love you like so many. Cheese enchiladas had absolutely no cheese perhaps they ran out - plenty of peppers and onions wrapped in corn tortillas. Should have asked them to swap the ranchero sauce for queso. Even out of the can Costco cheese would've been better then the dryness that were my sad enchiladas. The bright spot was our server. Apparently staff can dress however they like and she was seriously a good server. I don't remember her name. I was distracted by her pink hair and hot pink neon leggings. The ambiance is kitschy. It seems like a family establishment or 50+ looking for the happy hour drink specials. Terrible experience. Carson was the worst server I've ever had. He forgot most of our order and it came out incorrectly. I had to reorder several items we had ordered. At the end of the meal had to continually remind him to bring items like togo boxes and bags. When ordering for the nibblings I ordered soft drinks for them and he brought them. When it was time to pay he charged us for each beverage and then when I asked about the charge he said I ordered full size drinks when I only ordered the drinks because they came with the kids meal. I also didn't ask for the large size beverage for the kids. So beware when ordering for kids make sure you get a kids size beverage. After waiting so long for him to bring the items to pack our food togo Carson had the nerve to accuse of us not paying on the app. I had to show him on my phone the successful payment and he still didn't believe me and had to check his system. Unfortunately this was an awful visit. We when for to Chuys there was a 30min wait so we put our name on the list and they texted us when our table was ready. Once we got the text we walked back over and we were seated pretty quickly. Now I just want to say the waitress super nice She didn't seem to familiar with the way the meats were Made. Unfortunately the kitchen staff this night wasn't great so it didn't help. We all ordered out food with the accommodations we needed and our server even repeated to us we did ask if there was onion in the need she said no which then of course my husband ordered a burrito and then down the line. When our food came out we realized that there were a lot of issues, first the onion were in fact in the beef, my kids chicken tender were hard as a rock the fries were fine. My friends sons burger was over cooked as well on the sides but soft in the middle. Also ordered chicken flautas that had weird taste and sad to say she was very sick the next day. I got the chicken chimichanga that was fine but the burrito itself I couldn't bite through but the filling and the rice and beans were fine. The cheese enchiladas were so messy it looked like slop. The two things that came out right was my father in laws salad and the drinks. I recently moved from Austin, TX, home of the original Chuys's. I was so excited to see a Chuy's in Charlotte so I had to try it. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. Worst margarita I've ever had in my life. I literally had to tell the bartender how to remake it and she screwed it up 2nd time so I just dealt with it. The staff can't properly pronounce the items, it was so disappointing. They need to better train their staff. The food was mediocre. I won't be back. My husband and I came here lunch together since he's never been and this was close to the plant store we stopped by. I didn't have much expectations since it's a chain restaurant and my previous review 6 years ago LOL. However, I was pleasantly surprised. We really enjoyed the chips (light but not easily broken) and the 2 different dips that came with it (ranch-like and salsa). We also got queso and that was my favorite. It kinda reminded me of an upgraded version of velveeta cheese dip. For my entree, I got the "chuychanga" with green hatch sauce. I expected something similar to a chimichanga, which it was similar but there was no cheese sauce on top of the fried burrito. The green hatch sauce was under it. It was good and crispy but I think if there was melted cheese it woulda been better. The rice and beans were average. Overall pretty good meal and very attentive/friendly staff. The decor and music was also very festive. I was unable to try the pretty mixed drinks since I'm pregnant so we will definitely need to come back. I recommend giving this place another shot if you haven't been in a while (like me), your experience might be different. read more

We are so lucky to have one of those in Charlotte! We're a huge fan of the Chuys chain as we are from Orlando. We miss their pre COVID nacho bar but we're just glad they are open and serving their delicious food! We ordered the queso with ground beef and the panchos. They were phenomenal!!! Since it was also national tequila day we had to order a round. Our waitress Carissa was absolutely phenomenal and helped us navigate the menu. Havent been here in a longgggg time since I moved from the area. My nieces co workers threw her a babyshower here and it was really nice. We came in on a sunday and the restaurat wasnt very packed, was able to get street parking. The young lady that took care of us was awesome, she did a great job handling all of our orders and requests. The food was just how I remembered it, delicious and fresh. I have it on my goals to try out every single place in Waverly. Chuy's was inevitably going to happen and I figured it for a cheaper alternative to some of the other seated dining/table service restaurants in here. I got in right around 17:00 on a Friday not thinking how packed they would get soon after that. When I arrived, there was ample seating to choose from and by the time I left there were groups standing around practically anywhere waiting for a table to open up. I sat at a high-top table in the bar area, which is first come first serve. There are framed photos of people's dogs hung up everywhere. Apparently, you get a free app for bringing one in but I'm disappointed that cats aren't an option...I know, I like cats. There's cool artistic fish swimming along the ceiling in waves. They bring you chips and salsa to your table as with most Mexican restaurants out there. The chips are super thin, cantina style and the salsa has a little zing to it with a refreshing taste. For my meal I ordered the Southwestern Enchiladas. The sunny-side-up egg on top is what helped me make the decision. The plate looked picturesque. It was a massive amount of food and I had to pull the tortilla to the side in order to be able to eat the rest. It had a little spice to it but was otherwise "nothing special" in my opinion. I can even say I've had better rice and refries at cheaper, less froufrou Mexican restaurants before. I ordered a side of guac but was perplexed when a single, table-spoon size scoop came out. After a little explanation, the waiter brought me out the appetizer order which is basically just four scoops of the same. Also, I guess because it got busy, I ended up with my food before my utensils. They seem very popular and worth a try for anyone out there. However, in my opinion, it was nothing to write home about and I will certainly try every other restaurant in Waverly before I find myself back in here for another shot. read more

Noisy. Messy. Atmosphere could be a lot better. Tables sit around dirty waiting to be bussed. Floor covered in crap swept off of tables. Service is mixed. I think the wait staff try hard but miss a bit. Could be partly the noise. Double check your order, especially of you changed anything. I've had fairly prompt service and also terribly slow service. Waiting 30 minutes for food is a bit too long. It simply isn't that complicated. The food is also very much hit and miss. They do some things pretty well but many things come up short. They are very stingy on cheese. That is absurd. Tacos are ok but also inconsistent. Enchiladas? Skip. Tostadas? Skip. If you go just keep in mind it can be hit and miss. Compared to other casual Mexican spots in Charlotte, you can do much better. I would personally recommend Tacos for Life at the Arboretum for much better food. O read more
