Solid food. Chips and salsa were fresh. The carnitas taco was the best of the 3- I also got a steak taco and a grilled shrimp. I'd be interested to see what the fried shrimp taco tastes like, as it's actually the one listed (grilled is an option for shrimp and fish). The hard shell was excellent- you could tell they made it. Flour tortilla was also great. Odd that I wasn't a fan of the soft corn, and moved the rest of my shrimp to the remaining part of the flour tortilla I had. They were quite busy or perhaps short-staffed, so there was a wait. We ended up at the bar and he was busting his tail to keep up with everything. I would give it a 3.5 for food - the fact they used American singles cheese as part of the quesadilla ruined the experience and their guacamole was tasteless, chips were cold and stale, and pico de gallo wasn't fresh. The steak wasn't terrible though! That said I rated it 4 for Amber alone. Fantastic energy and super attentive. Made sure I never ran out of Diet Coke despite managing a busy bar. read more

Love this spot. Co worker turned me on to them and they never disappoint. My new love is the chicken tortilla soup! It has chillies, tomatoes, cilantro, avocado garnish, jalapeño and tortilla stripe. Baby the real deal. Chef's Kiss. Be sure to try everything. Soups, salads, quesadilla, tacos. Great selection of appetizers. Highly recommend their Fiesta Bowl or Too Big Taco Salad. Nice little Mexican restaurant hard by the South Park mall. Loads of parking out front, but you may have to walk a bit since Paco's is a busy place. Interior was pleasantly laid out, with high tables and low tables and a nice bar area ... all sorts of seating on two levels. Speaking of the bar, they have an excellent list of tequilas, which you can get by the ounce or half-ounce ... a really nice option. The margaritas though had a great taste, but not much in the way of alcohol. Food wise, the tableside guacamole was very nice, but needed more salt, tomatoes, and onions ... and it could have been blended just a bit more. Even with all that, it was still a nice item. Our table had: a pair of two taco dinners, the Alamo chicken fajitas (grilled chicken, onions, and peppers), and a fajitas combination (steak, chicken, shrimp, veggies). All in all the food was good. Something's going on - we were told there's a "new chef" (we've been coming to Paco's for years), but it's also clear there's cost cutting going on. They've changed the menu and the food was awful. Great service, very reasonable prices, and very good food; with the combination, how can I give them any less than five stars?! Had the Too Big Taco Salad and it definitely was; had to take half of it home! The salad was a mountain of ground meat, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, and crunchy tortillas. I guess if I could have resisted their thin, ever-so-crispy tortilla chips and mouth watering salsa before the salad arrived at the table, I could have eaten more of my salad, but why?? Everything was so amazing, incredible, and delicious. I love the vibes that this restaurant has, the design and decor is elevated and inviting. The service was rockstar level. This is our go to place whenever we're in the South Park region of Charlotte, usually twice a year sometimes more. Outstanding service by Louis -- friendly, anticipates needs and super kind. Super cute comfortable atmosphere. Reservations are definitely needed as this place is always hopping. Best chips and salsa ever. My go to is the small chopped salad with salmon, but sometimes I mix it up and have the chicken tortilla soup. The best Tex Mex in Charlotte. What do I mean by tex mex? Mesquite grilled fajitas, and enchiladas covered in chili con carne (cheese or beef). While the overall vibe of Paco's is reminiscent of a chain restaurant, and some of the items give that vibe, the actual flavor of the food is wonderful. The beef fajitas here are my favorite, with the warm tortillas, sliced after cooking, and that mesquite grilled flavor. Most places in Charlotte chop the beef up, the cook it on a flat top, and essentially saute or pan fry. This is much much better. This is the ONLY place in Charlotte that you can get legit Tex-mex enchiladas. Not Chuy's, Not Superica.... Only at Paco's. Hands down crave-worthy for both enchiladas, beef and the cheese (raw onions on top are a must), and they are 12.50 for lunch. The only reason for less than 5 stars, is that I wish they just had more real Tex(Mex options for other types of enchiladas and grilled meats/seafood entrees. read more

Joshua, the server who waited on us today, was very lacking in the service he provided. The lady I was with specifically asked for no onions on the tacos she ordered. But then the tacos she was served had onions. When she brought it up to him, came across as he was trying to pass it off as a minor thing, saying was due to onions being in the pico de gallo. She and I didn't like that and also we were annoyed that he didn't apologize when he brought out the replacement dish. He just put it on the table without saying anything. I (and I'm sure the lady I was with) feel Joshua needs to be trained specifically on how to deal with such situations. Paco's has been a good Mexican spot when I've been there on other occasions. So good!! Pacos tacos has been on my list for years, but it won't be long before I return. Service: our server was friendly, patient and accommodating. We ordered guacamole, and they made it fresh at the table! They also boxed our leftovers for us after we were done eating which was pleasantly unexpected! Food: as many other reviews said, the portions here are very generous! If you're hungry, you'll finish your plate and be happy, and if you're not, you'll have plenty for lunch the next day! We started with the complimentary chips and salsa and ordered guac and queso for the table. Both were fresh and great sizes to share with a table. For my entree, I ordered the fiesta bowl with shrimp and loved it. Others at my table ordered tacos, quesadillas, and the taquitos (which were a special that night), and everyone was pleased! Wait: we had a reservation on a Friday night, and I'm so glad we did! It was busy, so would recommend calling ahead or reserving a table in advance! My hubby chose this place again (though once in a long while!) on our date night... We made reservations for early dinner at 5:30 pm, and was able to slide right in. Think it's been at least a year (if not more) since our last visit...but this time around, I felt that the place looked a bit rundown. Maybe they needed a bit of ambiant lighting and/or some renovations? Made me sad remembering how shiny and nice this place used to look WAY BACK WHEN (20+ years ago??)...when the place was this Italian restaurant, Menzetti's. Also, for some reason, the overhead music was only playing on the right side of the restaurant. Sadly, the ambiance was just off. As for the food, I chose my usual...the 2 "Paco's Tacos" (Awesome Brisket!!) with Rice and Black Beans. As usual, they were DEE-Lish! My hubby enjoyed his Wood Grilled Chicken Tacos. I've always loved their Rice and Black Beans, and even their super-spicy salsa sauce. Also enjoyed their freshly made (by the table!) Guacamole that we ordered on the side...though it was a bit overpriced (14 bucks?!?). Aside for some ambiance issues, I thought the presentation could have been a bit better. The foods just looked like they were dumped unto the plate, with no effort. I actually fixed the plate to make it look more photographable. *SIGH* BTW, the service was good. Our waiter did a fine job, and even the Manager (?) stopped by for a nice greeting. So yeah, the foods and service were still solid. I would have loved to have given them 5 stars, but just thought they were a bit too slack with ambiance/presentation. Still, we feel that this is one of the best Tex-Mex places in Charlotte...and yes, we actually prefer Tex-Mex to "authentic" Mexican restaurants...where we've experienced one too many service and other issues.
