I was really excited to try Chuy's with Jodi C. on Sunday night! She had been talking about the food ever since she had Chuy's catering at a recent Elite event. When we arrived, we were told that there would be a 15 minute wait, we didn't think much of it since it was dinner time. We waited outside for the first half of our wait, which probably ended up being more like 20 minutes. Since it was pretty chilly out, we decided to move inside to the host/waiting area. Wowza was this area small! The restaurant is in high demand, which is awesome for management especially being a new venue, but my goodness there is nearly no space to wait inside. Every inch of the waiting area was filled with bodies, including blocking all doorways in/out of restaurant, the bar, and the main area of tables. It was really overwhelming to wait just because of the sheer number of people in such a small space, but we heard that many people were back for their second or third visits so that seemed promising. Once our pager went off, we got taken across the restaurant, past the staff making the fresh tortillas (nice touch to be able to watch the process through a window) to a booth in the corner that seriously could've barely held children. Our purses barely could even squeeze in. We patiently waited for our server to come back to ask for a different table, because the hostess who sat us was nowhere in sight. Once our server came over, he was super nice and helpful and went to talk with the hostess to get us moved bc we were either going to get a new seat or we were going to leave. We then got moved a room over to a table which was much more comfortable, although we were placed right next to a fake palm tree that was as tall as the entire room, literally. Interesting decor but weird placement; more on that later. Our new server greeted us and was extremely friendly. He recommended the frozen blood orange margarita, and we both got it. So delicious -- a nice mix of sweet and sour! Margarita was blended really smoothly, which I enjoyed. In addition to the chips and salsa, we asked for the white sauce which was comparable to ranch with Mexican flavors. We ordered the queso compuesto which our server highly recommended and fajitas for two. For the queso compuesto, the queso serves as the base, with a scoop of beef, guacamole, and pico de gallo. You then mix it all together and get a delicious taste of all four things in each bite. I wish the queso had come out hotter in temperature because once we mixed it all together, it was more luke warm than anything. Not but two chip dips in for each of us, did a bus boy run our fajitas out of the kitchen and to our table. We both looked at each other shocked as our appetizer had just arrived 2 mins prior. Normally I would have considered sending back an entree that came out that fast but being how crowded it was and how popular of a dish fajitas typically are, I felt safe that the cook staff was trying to stay ahead of the game with fajitas and had meat for them constantly on the grill. We shoved a few more queso filled chips back and then dug into the fajitas. We ordered the combo so some steak, some chicken plus grilled veggies, guac, sour cream, cheese, rice, beans, and tortillas. Surprisingly I much preferred the chicken over the steak. The chicken was well marinated and really tasty; the steak was fine but lacking much flavor. I was disappointed with the grilled veggies; they were diced much thiner than I preferred and didn't have much flavor. The rice was good, beans fine. Biggest issue besides the okay steak, was the tortillas. Although fresh, I felt like I was putting straight flour in my mouth. They weren't fluffy and soft. They appeared decent until you put your fillings in them and then rolled em up, and then ended up with food rolling down your hands because the tortillas were cracking all over the place. Now besides how crowded it was with people, my biggest issue with the restaurant is the actual physical space and literally how tight the quarters are. They have accomplished shoving as many booths and tables in their space as possible. Please reference my picture that displays just how close a large round table is to a corner of a wall. Servers were literally walking through the restaurant lifting large trays full of piping hot food on top of people to be able to get around to their tables (hello, huge liability) and at this one particular corner the staff was literally having to mold themselves to the wall to get around the area while barely being able to balance their trays with food, beverages, dirty dishes, etc. It is not the serving staff's fault; this is absolutely management, but it needs to be addressed or there is going to be a big accident, if one hasn't already occurred. Like I said, I was excited to try this place out but left with a bad taste in my mouth. I want to try it again when it's not so new anymore and am hopeful that they will work some of their kinks out! read more

What can I say - I'm a sucker for good TexMex and Chuy's doesn't disappoint. Being a former Dallasite, I have had many a dining experience at this Austin-based chain and was over the moon when I read that one had opened in Fairfax (thank you Washingtonian!). We ventured to the neighboring 'burbs on Thanksgiving weekend, avoiding the Black Friday crowds at Tyson's Corner by embracing the kitschy strip mall dining experience with gusto. Our server enthusiastically introduced himself as Steve and asked us if it was our first time to dine at Chuy's. When we explained our status as long-time Chuy's fans but first-time Fairfax diners, he gleefully celebrated our first time experience by enthusiastically serving us a heaping basket of those oh-so addictive crispy tortilla chips with two different sauces which were repeatedly replenished. I had the Chicka-Chicka boom boom enchiladas, corn tortillas filled with chicken and topped with a creamy boom boom sauce - delish! The refrained beans were relatively tasteless but that is par for the course. The website leaves something to be desired. In looking at the information about the Fairfax location, it touted the curbside takeout and I wasn't entirely sure if they had dine in beyond the fully loaded nacho car. read more

Stopped in at the new Chuy's for a birthday lunch. It's very cute and welcoming. We did not wait. The service staff was very attentive. There were three of us in our party. Here are our thoughts... Background on us - 1 grew up and lived in so ca for 25 years, 1 born in Texas grew up in WV , 1 No Va native. The Salsa - tasty but too salty and a bit watery The "special sauce" seemed be ranch dressing with some jalapeños added. Very Disappointing. We ordered a chicken burrito - it was ok but the tomatillo salsa tasted odd, as if the tomatillos had not been roasted to make the salsa. The Mexican rice tasted like it came from a box - the green rice was a bit better, had more flavor and not as dry. The Southwestern enchilada was the table hit by far - but the order did not come as specified. The waiter did fix it. And lastly the Chuy's Chicken combo. The Chalupa was good but all the cheese in it was melted, the guacamole was oddly creamy - more mayonnaise like than fresh Guac like. The taco that came with the plate was just some chicken rolled up in a flour tortilla but the chicken had a very nice flavor. The manager, Jason stopped by to check on us. We shared our rice issues and he said he would talk to cook. Since it was s birthday lunch I was a bit disappointed that the food wasn't ad good as I though it might be. We would have given this one star if it had not been for the sweet waitress that assisted our table. And, a quick disclosure. If you have never had decent Tex Mex or straight up Mexican food before, you may enjoy this restaurant. That being said, this reminded me of food found in a hospital cafeteria that was sitting out under heat lamps long enough for my 2 year old to grow a beard. We were enjoying a night out for dinner when a "Party " of 20 started showing up. They were not a pod of people that had been spending time together through the pandemic . How do I know this? The words out of their mouths were all telling. We asked to be moved to the side of the restaurant that was empty and a wall between us and the party of 20. The servers were grea. They didn't sit anyone else in the area where the party was being held. I would asked Chuys to stop taking parties of more than 5 . If people want to have a party they do cater. Keep everyone safe and enjoy your company at home. I will continue to enjoy the food at Chuy's but I will order to go from now on. read more

Welcome to NOVA Chuys! After finding Chuys by accident in Nashville I was so shocked (and stoked) to see a location opening up nearby. It replaced the old Fairfax Chilis (which was crap anyways) and let me tell you, beers cold, food great, love the salsa and queso bar in the bar but whoa it's usually packed. Wish the location was a little closer to home/ kind of a pain to get to Fairfax/ but we'll be back. read more

I love Chuy's! It is up there amongst my favorites in the Tex-Mex joints. It completes what I call the Triad of Fairfax Fire(Chuy's on Lee, Uncle Julio's in FFX Corner, and Guapo's in Fair Lakes). While Uncle Julio's has the best chips around, Chuy's spicy white sauce for the chips is AWESOME! The food is great. The steak for Fajitas and what not is always cooked to perfection. As it is at Guapo's and Uncle Julio's. Chuy's is popular and often busy but what can you expect. They have an awesome cocktail hour free chips and queso bar too. It is very cute on the inside with its decorations- landline phones bordering the ceilings- and I am dying to get my hands on one of the shirts their employees wear and they sell. All of the times that I've gone, the waiters have been awesome. Quick, nice, and very knowledgable about the menu. My only dig is that the flour tortillas are a little doughy for my liking and that some of their plates are just too spicy for me. But that's a personal taste type of thing and that might even attract other people even more! read more

Then our awesome and friendly server name Chelsea brought us this creamy jalapeno ranch which was wonderful!!!!! :D I had a combination fajita...the steak tasted great. I first tried Chuy's in Nashville when I was in college. When one opened near where my parents lived at the time, I was so excited! We've gone to this location a couple of times both when we used to live near there and now when we come back in town to visit friends. The food is always good-I've tried the quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, and flautas. I know a lot of people say their chips are really thin, but I personally like thin chips. I think their chips are perfectly salted and I prefer them to chips at most Mexican places. I can't comment on their salsa because I'm one of those weird people that hates cilantro. Their creamy jalepeno dip is to die for. My best friend (who hates spicy food) loved it. It's really not that spicy. The service can be a bit hit or miss. We've had amazing servers and some who were kind of meh. It just depends. The food always comes out quickly, not matter how busy the restaurant is. Prices are fair, and you get a huge portion of food no matter what you order. The drinks are also very good-get the frozen strawberry margarita! Overall, Chuy's is a great Mexican place with delicious food, strong drinks, and a fun atmosphere. What more can you ask for? read more

They gave us much more for our buck than Uncle Julio's and the vegetables and meat tasted fresh. The only problem was the front desk staff. It is a solid chain restaurant. The meals are large portions of comforting and tasty food and the margaritas are pretty standard. Their salsa is actually spicy, which is a great change of pace from most places in Fairfax, and it has a very upbeat and cheerful atmosphere. Quality of food wise, I'd say it's on par with the Springfield Chuy's. It's not the best Tex mex but it gets the job done. This is a restaurant I frequent with my girlfriends because we like the drinks and endless chips. The server was very sweet and attentive. My friend brought a framed picture of her dog and we got a free appetizer to share. We went with the quesadillas, which I'd say if you were to order this then I'd split it with 2 people not any more than that. We ordered a round of mojitos. I got the classic and my friends got the strawberry. I asked for mine to be less sweet because I think Chuy's drinks tend to be on the cloying side. I ordered the chiles rellenos with sirloin steak. I didn't really expect the steak to be ground, which was a turn off. The second visit I've had I wanted to order something lighter and got the Chicken combo from the "lite menu" which included a chicken chalupa and soft chicken taco. Nothing was light about this, the chalupa was a fried nacho covered in cheese and chicken, delicious, but not healthy. I was stuffed from the chips we had earlier so I skipped out on the soft taco. Honestly I do not really love Chuy's because it's always so loud and packed and their chips and salsa are bland. But I am giving them four stars for their bomb nachos. Go with a friend, share the nachos for $8.99, and you'll have eaten the best nachos of your life for less than a McDonald's meal. You're welcome. The nachos are so good and filling you really don't even need an entree unless you want leftovers. They bake each chip with nacho toppings so you're not fighting to dip brittle chips into liquid cheese. All of the other things I've tried at Chuy's have just been average. Let me tell you, if Mexican heaven exists, I would imagine it being similar to a Chuys. I came here on a Saturday evening for a bite to eat. The wait was about 45mins for a table but since it was me and my friend, we just sat ourselves at the bar. There's complimentary chips and salsa and you could help yourself with the chips if you sat the bar. Chips and salsa were pretty satisfying but it wasn't enough for my taste buds so we ordered queso and guacamole to go with it. As soon as my tastebuds hit the queso, I was in an immediate high that left me craving for more. THE QUESO IS SO GOOD. EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET IT. Moving on the the entree, I got the chuy changa with the boom boom sauce and it was MONEY. I've never had anything from Chuys that I didn't like.
