Chuy's is definitely one of my go-to tex-mex spots. They have a pretty big menu and are always accommodating with substitutions, so it's perfect for vegetarians and satisfies every time. I normally get the veggie enchiladas smothered in boom boom sauce. It's spinach, onions, zucchini, red bell peppers, serranos, roasted green chiles, corn, and cheese all wrapped in a flour or corn tortilla with a side of beans and rice. The enchiladas always taste super fresh and are filling. But it's the boom boom sauce that steals the show. It pairs well with all the flavors of the seasoned veggies and never disappoints. Chuy's is also one of my favorite spots because of their assortment of sauces. Although I like the boom boom the best, I highly recommend trying them all out to find your favorite. I also order the ranchero on the side anyways! The tomatillo sauce is tangy but mild and made from fresh green tomatillos, green onions, cilantro, and garlic. The deluxe tomatillo adds in sour cream, herbs, and spices for a creamier finish. The ranchero made with fire-roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, bell peppers, cilantro, spices giving it a zesty flavor. The fan favorite boom boom is made from roasted New Mexican chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro, and melted cheese. I always wanted try to the green chile and hatch green chile but unfortunately they aren't vegetarian. Overall Chuy's has a great ambiance, have unlimited chips and salsa, and the dishes can sometimes even be big enough to split! Pro-tip: if you order two half portions of a dish, you get double the sides! read more

While not really five stars, I am rounding up because in the NOVA area this is about as good as it gets for Tex-Mex. The complimentary chips are thin, fresh and tasty, and the creamy jalapeño dip is equally delicious. The ground beef burrito was not only delicious, but positively huge! Certainly bang for the buck is high here. I have tried of few other items on prior visits and all were great. Have I had better Tex-Mex? Yes, but not *much* better, not at these portions/prices, and not around here. As such, the outright 4-4.5 score becomes a five, graded on a NOVA curve. read more

I love Chuys. All the locations have a similar decor. You have to walk around to see the decorations in each area. The bar serves chips and salsa from the back of a Cadillac. The burritos are giant. The chips and salsa are served until you throw up (or stop asking for refills). The servers were so nice. I was not familiar with the mild salsa. I didn't like it. The medium salsa was delicious. It could be a milkshake. The menu is huge. The prices are cheap. Whatever outfit you wear will smell like a Mexican restaurant when you leave, but it is so worth it. read more

This restaurant has a ton of seating and their food is pretty good! I'm really basic, so I got the chicken soft tacos. It was good for the price! They also provide complimentary chips while you wait for your food & they're warm! I would totally go back again and get the same thing. Our server was super nice and patient. This place is a standard, yummy Mexican restaurant. It was definitely really good food that I was happy about, but they were a few things that made it lose the two stars. First they weren't really accommodating with the bigger group that I came in with (8 people) we had to sit at different tables even though there were two empty tables that we could just push together. Another thing is the pieces of lettuce in my taco were oddly large, which really isn't that bothersome but worth mentioning. But my least favorite aspect of it, was that they literally put the entire avocado seed IN MY GAUC!! I ordered guacamole tacos as a vegetarian and they were so good until I was trying to eat this big chunk of guacamole with a chip that was really hard... turns out it was because it was literally the avocado pit. Luckily I didn't chew into it and break a tooth. I don't think it's worth the money but it's not particularly bad other than these few things listed above. I came here yesterday for a Happy Hour to study and eat before going to a language event with my sister. I sat at the bar and had great customer service from the bartender. I got the Texas Tini on HH ($10), which is a Cadillac premium margarita. It's served with a glass and the shaker, so you can pour as you go. I was given chips to start off. They have a salsa/taco bar you can serve yourself from. You have options of re-fried beans, taco meat, queso, and salsa! I love that they have so many choices to choose from :) It was a rough day for me, so I just wanted some drinks and a small eats. I remembered from last time, and it was recommended to me from the Bartender, to order the Tres Leches cake. It was just the sugar pick me up that I needed! I came here while waiting for my nail appointment and I chose to order a cocktail and tacos. I ordered 2 chicken and a beef and sat at the bar. The location does seem to attract a lot of locals which is nice as the servers and bartenders were familiar with many of the guests by name. The atmosphere is relaxed but the space is a little tight as the distance is approximately maybe 3-4 feet from the back of the bar chairs to the booths. It was not the most cleanliest establishment I've been in and when I went to the restroom there was a rather large insect there and flies. I had originally planned to take my food to go but I was a little turned off at that point and closed out my tab. I had already felt as though the quality of the food seemed a little questionable but that further drove the nail in. I haven't updated my Chuy's review in a while. I order at least once a month during pandemic times, most recently last week. I typically order through door dash and the restaurant does a great job with packaging and they are doing fine work during the pandemic. Our mainstays, chicken flautas and steak fajitas are as good as ever! I love the creamy jalapeño sauce. Pro tip - order some extra on the side to put on your eggs the next morning. Third visit in the past few months and they continue to impress. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table immediately. Margo came by and delivered excellent chips and salsa and took our order. My go to is the tortilla soup (best I've ever had) but tonight we went with the "panchos". Could not decide between beef or chicken and asked if we could do a combo. Margo said "Sure, anyway you want them" and then suggested all three meats for a dollar more. Sold! Have been looking for nachos just like this for a while. They were easily a meal for the two of us. Great big chips loaded with beans, meat, cheese, chopped tomatoes, and guacamole and lettuce in the middle with jalapeños on the side. I ate one more than I should have but they were so good. Amazing value for the food! Went with 2 friends and we were so full from just the appetizer plate and crispy tacos, and the final bill was under $10 per person. Their complimentary chips & salsa was absolutely addicting. The chips were very thin, crispy, and even warm when they served it to us. Definitely kept our mouths busy before the real meal arrived. The appetizer plate we ordered included almost all the items from the appetizer menu (quesadilla, nachos, queso, guac, sour cream) for just $13; highly recommend it! This was my second time at Chuy's, but only stopped by for a quick drink today. The bartender was very nice and attentive. We had some wine and chips with salsa. The salsa was good, tasted fresh, but was on the spicier side. The chips were a little too salty today, however they are crisp and good. If you're a GMU student, you can show them your student ID for a free side of queso. The queso was pretty good. I've come with a group for happy hour in the dining area and it was good. The loaded nacho car trunk is cool, free HH special and comes with various toppings such as queso, beans, salsa, I think ground beef, and maybe a few other things. The guacamole here was pretty good too. We will definitely be returning with a framed photo of our fur baby for a free appetizer at the bar. read more

Found another jem. Been looking for a great Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant in my area and found this. Menu has about everything I would want and more. Their menu is online, easy to read, and includes prices. Wow. They have a Pancho and a Tex-Mex Burrito Bowl with good portions and well-priced - generally this menu seemed less pricy than some local competitors I thought were way overpriced. Sauces are complimentary. In my mind, everything looked good and well-priced. Portions were healthy, such that many customers had "take home bags. Complimentary chips were fresh and sauces were thick enough to not run off the chip onto your lap. On this visit, the waiter was exceptionally attentive in service and checking the table. He took time to share stories we had in common. I particularly liked the atmosphere - certainly Mexican, but homey, comfortable, clean, not a small place, and not too sophisticated you can't relax. I strongly recommend this restaurant as a "must-visit" if Mexican/ Tex-Mex is your pleasure. read more

Having eaten at one of their other locations, I am a fan so when I spotted this place we ventured in. Similarly decorated to the other location, this place is just fun. Our server (Maria) greeted us and we asked for a margarita, a lemonade and a glass of ice water. Soon after, she brought the marg and lemonade but not the water. We grazed on their homemade chips and salsa that has a slight kick to it. We ordered our food and settled in. About 15 minutes later the food arrived. Someone other than our server brought the food to the table. The food was delicious and filling. We split an order of (two) shrimp tacos. The plate includes refried beans, shredded lettuce, a lime wedge and Mexican rice. Serioously, they were the BOMB. About 3/4 of the way into the meal, my girl commented that Maria never brought us the water we asked for so I flagged down a busboy and he hooked us up. Maria didn't check in on us until we asked for the check. I wanted more lemonade. Maria is sweet but she lacks the attentive factor needed for her job. On the way out, I spotted a manager and told him that the food was delicious but the service was sub-par. He told us he'd have a chat with her. It's seems the Chuys menu is also going through the pandemic crisis. I was surprised to see that the menu is on one colorful cardboard with tons of items removed which used to be there.
