Every time I have been to this restaurant there is always a good crowd. They stay busy but if you time it right you can get in quickly. The atmosphere is neat and entertaining. They have hub caps on a great section of the ceiling and have some neat decor. The menu has an awesome selection of different types of tex mex along with the traditional. One of my favorites is the Elvis memorial plater. It is huge and a great way to try a bit of all Chuy's has to offer. The chip and jalapeño ranch dip and enough to revisit this place. The "big as your face" are well big as your face. And dessert to top it off would be the tres leches cake!! You will have to eat it with a spoon it is so moist. I hadn't been to Chuys in awhile and went today for lunch with a friend. First off, I thought it had become run down and dirty. We sat at a booth with a window and the blinds were so dusty and dirty. My silverware was dirty and I had to ask for a new set. The menu was so small. All the combos that I used to love were gone. Menu used to be multiple pages and now it was one page front and back. I ordered enchiladas. They were tasty but the sauce on top wasn't a sauce.....it was burnt on the enchiladas. With all the choice of Mexican in the area, I don't think I'll keep Chuys on my list. We went tonight (a Tuesday) & put our name down for a party of 3. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait. Fine, we would wait. After 45 minutes, we went to check on our place in line & were told that we were 7th in line but there was a party of 30 in front of us. What??? That's crazy. Really great service and good food. The two green chili sauces are amazing. Order a side of each as soon as you arrive, if you like spicy heat. They were very attentive to my dietary restriction too. I ordered my meal with no cheese and one of the managers noticed, and came back to ask whether I have a dairy allergy. I said yes, and he told me there was milk in the breading of the chicken I ordered. Wow! Really great service from our server too. Chuy's is reliably good! I usually have the fajita chicken soft tacos. Yummy! Chicken is nicely seasoned, and the toppings that come with are generous. My favorite part of Chuy's though is their jalapeño ranch sauce that comes with the chips and salsa. To die for!!! If there's a wait when you arrive, be sure to check out the bar area. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Chuys, provided by what may have been the best service we'd ever had at a restaurant (thank you very much, Jordan!) It was our first time dining here, and first they brought out chips and salsa. The chips were thin but the salsa was flavorful, a bit spicy, and very delicious- and I'm a bit of a salsa snob. Since we'd never tried the creamy white dip, our server brought it out for us to taste and it was actually pretty good. Next, our server brought us eight salsa cups which were filled with a good sized sample of each of their sauces. He also brought handmade tortillas to dip in them. Some were cheesy, others were spicy, and some were more traditional, but as a picky eater, I was surprised that I loved all 8. I chose to mix their flavorful traditional chili sauce with the spicy pepper sauce on my enchiladas, served with charro beans and rice. I think my boyfriend got 3 enchiladas that each had a different sauce on them. Our food was delicious and we ate until we couldn't anymore. I could write a really negative review about Chuy's because I hate chains and West Knoxville, but the reality is that Chuy's is fantastic! Their menu is extensive, and the staff is always really cool and helpful. And they have this salsa. They call it "something ranchero blah blah blah". Who cares what they call it? If you ask for that crack dip, they know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and they'll serve it with amplitude and vigor. The stuff is magical and I crave it regularly. It's not just the crack dip though. All the food is great. It's weird in the way that Austin is weird(coincidentally Chuy's headquarters), and it's the kind of weird that you want all up inside you, and when it is, you'll have a funny waddle from trying to eat all the chips, and their gigantic portions of food. This was my first time dining at a Chuys, and I was underwhelmed. I can't speak for the food other than chips and salsa, which the chips were pretty good. The drinks though? Blah. I got the King Punch, if I remember the name correctly, and it was basically fruit juice. For 10 bucks, I should feel a slight buzz but instead I got a stomachache from all that sugar. Great Tex Mex food, inexpensive, and vegan and vegetarian friendly. We always get the Special Nachos without cheese, and substitute for rice. I've also gotten a taco salad with no meat or dairy and add rice, and the cilantro vinaigrette on it is fantastic. My husband either gets the nachos or veggie enchiladas without cheese. My ONLY complaint is the salsa is usually so spicy, it's not edible. They need to calm it down with the fresh jalapeños in it lol. read more

This chain comes as advertised, fulfilling promises of Tex-Mex and massive portions, but their greatest attribute might come in the way of a margarita that you can't stop drinking until you have brain freeze. And, at that point, who really cares about the Mexican anyway, right? While they could have much better chips here (the entire chain has the same ones) their salsa is a spicy and their ranch based dip will be something you won't want to overlook. With that said, the menu is large and diverse. If you want to gain a true scope of what this chain offers try something that has their green or red chili sauce. Their burritos are massive. the chicken fajitas are large enough for two and while my flautas were overcooked and bone dry, normally they are very good. Went in to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. What a great place. The decor is eclectic and there's a lot of it. The service fast and very friendly . The food was spectacular and the drinks are not shy on the alcohol. The portion sizes are big and everything is fresh. You can watch as they make the tortillas right out in the dining room. Chuy's is an average Tex-Mex place in Texas, but about the best you're going to get here. Far better than all other Mexican places here. I always get the cheese enchiladas - they are always perfect. Best queso in Knoxville (other than my homemade queso). It's as close to Tex-Mex (not that close) as you'll get in Knoxville. read more

The service here is struggling. Servers really need to try to work together to make their guest happy. The food was good but would have been better if the experience had been better. Okay so it's not the Mexican food I grew up with back home in California, but it's not bad considering. The ambiance is great and the crew is really friendly. Their salsa selection is spot-on as well. The only onegative I have to say is that every time I have eaten here my food's temp has been just above warm. If food is made fresh, you expect it to come out hot! As far as food to eat; the chicken tortilla soup is great, and very authentic. I also suggest the taco plate or the fajitas. My first trip to this restaurant was six years ago until today. It's a shambles of its original self. The property is poor , there is not enough staffing to run the restaurant properly. The waiting times are unbearable and the food quality suffers poorly. I've been recommending this restaurant on its original merits, but no longer. It's an avoid at all cost. A key component for me is how well the steak is marinated, especially when it is combined with other things like a burrito, the spice over the burrito is quite unique, it reminds me of Japanese curry, sweet with a kick at the end that ends an authentic touch to this Mexican dish. By far one of my favorite things about chuys are the tortillas. There is nothing quite like a fresh tortillas. The tast is like no other Mexican restaurant in town. Seasonal update! Green chile fest- we came for tamales but were FORCED to try the Fat Daddy Enchiladas and they were spectacular! They are quite spicy, but we like that! After coming to Tennessee we were out and about in Knoxville and stumbled upon this gem. This is my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant and being from Texas this was my first choice back home. The decor and quality of the food is very consistent across this chain. We have visited them in Florida and Texas. We have been here a couple of times and each time the food has been amazing. On each visit they have met our expectations with the food. Happy Hour is the time to visit. You can make a trip to the car trunk and get some free queso, salsa, and taco meat. This is a nice addition to a meal or drop in for a drink and eat a meal from the bar. On my last visit I ordered the a combination plate that included a taco, enchilada, and rice and beans. Each of the plates Ive ordered her haven been exceptional. If you are a Tex-Mex fan then this place will hit the spot. read more

Chuy's has for a long time been one of our family's favorite places. Our experience last Saturday left a great deal to be desired. The service was good, the atmosphere was friendly, but the food was mediocre at best. Put bluntly, it just wasn't good. The cheese tasted old and bland. The enchiladas had the flavor of a supermarket frozen meal. The most significant problem, however, was the salsa. I specifically asked for a side of the hatch green chili salsa. When it arrived, it was not spicy. Not at all. Thinking there might be something wrong with my sense of taste (COVID?), I asked my daughter to try it. She did so with hesitation, since this "freshly made" salsa is supposed to be very spicy. She agreed with me that it was as bland as a canned soup and could probably be eaten with a spoon. When I brought this to the waiter's attention, he brought me some of the regular green chili salsa. It was no better. Presumably the salsa maker for that day thought he or she had been tasked with making lukewarm soup. Will we be back? Of course. We are hopeful that this visit was just a fluke. But management needs to have a stern talk with the kitchen. Or, in the alternative, start charging frozen supermarket entree prices. read more

Ok we used to frequent Chuy's but had a subpar meal and stopped going. Recently we decided to give it another try and we were pleasantly surprised. It was very good. I was very impressed with the chili relleno, just the right amount of heat and crunch and very good flavors. I love the green sauce and the jalepeno ranch. My wife really enjoyed her chicken taco salad; nice tasty, fresh pieces of chicken served in a substantial salad... Chuy's is a fun, causal, colorful, noisy restaurant. It's really a very good all around experience when the food coming out of the kitchen is done right. Margaritas are generally good.
