I keep trying to give Chuy's a chance (okay, this was only the second time) but I won't be returning again. The waitstaff just really seems to feel like they don't particularly want you there. The food is very oily (especially the chips) and made me feel a bit sick. Actually, all I can really say about the food is the portion sizes are big, which I guess is why it's a little expensive for general tex-mex. They charge you extra for things like a side of sour cream... which was strange because the meal I ordered -- a burrito and taco plate -- should have come with sour cream to begin with. I think they expect you to ask for items that you anticipate coming with your meal, then an extra 4 bucks shows up on your check at the end of the night. Anyway, just not worth it. Came here as a visitor to the area on the recommendation of a friend and it was walking distance from my hotel. Although they make a mean margarita the food is marginal, overly cheesed and the atmosphere is not very friendly. Maybe it was particularly bad day but I won't come back here or recommend this to my friends. read more

We arrived in Nashville early on a Saturday morning in a torrential, monsoon-like rain storm. We had seven hours to kill before our Airbnb would be ready for check-in. So we headed to the only open coffee shop to hang out for a bit. After passing two hours of time we were ready to head to brunch. It was raining too hard to carry our luggage to our breakfast destination. From deep within the caffiene-addled walls of our coffe shop/rain refuge emerged a well-coiffed young fellow, sporting a tenderly-steamed latte and a sharp-looking black umbrella. Now spotting our opening for a rain-free getaway from the coffee shop, we approached this fine lad, offering our finest puppy-dog-eyes, as we begged for an umbrella-escort down the street to our brunch destination. Thus, we were introduced to young Jake - a fine Nashvillian who was more than eager to welcome us to this fine city. What's more, he simply gave us his umbrella in a trusting leap of faith that we would return it to him later at his place of employment: the fine Mexican dining establishment called Chuys! After a pleasant brunch down the street, we made a bee-line to Chuys to return to Jake his fine umbrella, and partake of a drink or two. Jake was more hospitable than we could have ever hoped. Not only did we receive VIP seating on the lovely patio overlooking the scenic street-scene on Broadway (including a birds-eye view of the mile-long line for Hattie's Hot Chicken across the street) but we were treated to a selection of Jake's finest hints, tips, and recommendations for the best-possible experience for Nashville virgins. Jake told stories so vivid, and spun yarns so intricate, it became clear his mastery of Nashville history and lore was second-to-none. All the while, and without missing a beat, server Jake supplied us with a steady stream - nay - a virtual river, of unstoppably flowing tequila! Several hours later, a Manager was summoned to our table to welcome us to Nashville and check on our satisfaction with the food and booze we had consumed. We expressed the utmost satisfaction with our meal, but especially with the hospitality and service of Noble Server Jake. The Manager was more than pleased to hear such compliments, and offered a hug and a kiss to my lovely wife. Were it not for the generous actions of Hero Jake and the staff at Chuys restaurant, we surely would have drowned that morning. Great experience all around! I sat at the bar and the bartender, Vinny, was fantastic. He suggested a delicious signature Margarita and it was amazing. The food was wonderful, especially the hand-rolled tortillas. The manager, Allison, was great. Since moving to Nashville a few weeks ago, this has because one of my favorite places to eat. Their margaritas are AMAZING. The chips are addicting and the creamy jalapeno salsa is just ridiculous. I crave it. the guacamole is great as well. I usually order a bean + cheese burrito and they're HUGE! I can't even finish half. Definitely big enough to share. I love the décor of the restaurants as well. I've went with my girls a few times and also on a date night and it's perfect. read more

Great as always. Tried the tortilla soup for the first time, great. Got the chicken and steak fajitas, great as always. Went here for lunch on Saturday. We had to wait maybe 10 minutes which is great because it was so busy. Our waiter was so nice and attentive to my kids. The salsa is so fresh and delicious, reminded me of my mothers recipe. The chips were warm and fresh too! We ate two baskets! Our food came out fast and hot, and big portions for the price. I absolutely loved this place. Try to sit on the patio is the weather is good. My kids ordered chicken fingers and fries, my son commented it was the best fries ever. We had dinner at Chuy's on 7/24/16. The food was fabulous. My husband had the potato chip crusted fried chicken, which was crazy moist, crunchy, and loaded with flavor. My favorite was the home-made tortillas with a creamy jalapeño dip (not at all hot), which our waiter brought us complimentary to start us off. Those tortillas have completely ruined grocery store tortillas for me now! When we finished our meal, our waiter brought us orange sorbet push-ups, complimentary! I had a frozen strawberry drink made with fresh strawberry's, wonderfully refreshing. Lot's of extra perks for us that night! The only down side for me was the loud sidewalk and street we sat next to. We opted to sit outside, and I think my husband actually enjoyed all the activity around us though. read more

This has to be, without exaggeration, one of the worst meals I have ever had. My initial impression is that the food was very clearly microwaved as it was soggy and lacked the taste or appearance of any sort of freshness. The food is terribly greasy and I am convinced their cooking oil is stale and was scraped off of the bottom of a 50 year old fryer. The chicken, I kid you not, tastes and feels exactly like chewing on paper; it was dry, terribly under seasoned, and stringy. Their cheese (queso) is dense and fatty. The sauces used on the food taste out of a jar. The ground beef was probably the worst I've ever had, avoid it at all costs. The ground beef's seasoning tasted strange and completely inauthentic with the meat leaving an oily yet somehow gritty feeling in the mouth. I would have much preferred Taco Bell beef than whatever it was I was served here. I had trouble keeping this meal down at home and will remember the last day I stepped into this establishment with infamy. They claim to be a "Tex-Mex" restaurant but make no mistake, this establishment is an insult to all things Mexican and all things Texan. read more

I didn't eat 1/3 of it and saved it, hoping it would taste better as a post bar meal. The meal seemed slopped together. The margaritas were good and fairly cheap. Good happy hours for margs. I love this place. I highly recommend taking advantage of the valet for quicker service. Be sure to tip :) The location can be a little hectic at times but worth the wait especially on warmer days when you can find a spot on the patio. The decor is interesting and helps makes the wait time fly by. I'm always finding a new piece of strange artwork that makes me smile. I always go for the baja fish and shrimp tacos. Their handmade tortillas are truly what sets this place apart from other Tex Mex restaurants. The endless chips and salsa can be filling, so pace yourself. The staff has always been consistently nice and quick at refills / requests which is nice considering how busy this location always seems to be. They management obviously does a pretty good job at making sure the place is well if not overstaffed. read more
