Taco Chela is one of three savory options that you can find inside the L&L Market Place and is the only spot to get tacos, burritos, with a Margarita on the side. This spot is tucked away in a corner next to a milkshake shop and a wine bar that has a conveyor belt packed with tasty breads and bold cheeses. There could be worse places to be wedged in between. I ordered two street tacos, one pork belly and one bang bang shrimp tacos. I was expecting the bang bang shrimp to be a little more on the spicy side but the flavor was still pretty decent. The sauce paired nicely with the fresh mango and I really loved the crunch from the cabbage. The pork belly taco is by far, my favorite. One thick strip of seared pork belly, crispy/chewy on the inside, topped sauce, more mango and a red cabbage slaw. Not going to lie, I didn't hate the mango on here. Initially, I thought that was an odd choice, but it reminded me of the Al pastor and pineapple combo. I wouldn't call this place authentic Mexican food but it still is pretty tasty. The bar area is a nice spot to sit, but you can take your tacos and eat anywhere inside or outside of the L&L Market place. A hidden gem and well worth a visit. Located in L&L Market. The vodkarita and margaritas are amazing. The service is top notch and the staff are so kind! We ordered the chicken taquitos for an appetizer. They were delicious. You definitely want to order the street tacos, the carne asada and the pollo Verde were by far the best tacos I've ever had. This was a solid 3 star taco place. Tucked in a back corner of L&L market, it wasn't super busy when we went on a Saturday. The pastor taco on corn tortilla was the best taco by far. The burrito was also good. I personally can't get over how they do not serve tap water. So if you want water with your meal you have to buy a bottle or one of there canned soft drinks, or alcohol. They said something about the pipes, but I feel like a restaurant needs running tap water to function & I don't understand why they wouldn't want to serve it. With so many Mexican restaurants in the city, you literally can go anywhere else for better food and service. I went on a Wednesday like at 5ish- nobody else was there and food still took a while then I was confused why the chips and salsa couldn't come out first - the bartender/server said they were working on it but what's hard about some chips and salsa on a plate? Plus when I did get the app it clearly was way too many chips and not enough salsa. I have wanted to check out Taco Chela for quite some time and ended up there on a whim last weekend. The restaurant is located in the corner of L&L Market. (If you're unfamiliar with L&L, it's on Charlotte and not far from the Nations. There's a really fun assortment of shops and dining options, and there is plenty of free parking.) There is bar seating or patrons can choose to sit at a table in the shared space of the market. We opted for bar seating and had excellent service. There were quite a few margarita options, so I asked the waitress for a recommendation. She shared that she makes an amazing mango daquiri, and she was not lying. I will definitely be back for another! We shared an order of steak macho nachos, and they were really good (and the perfect amount for two people to share). I love that there's no upcharge for steak, and I really enjoyed the mango on the nachos. I do wish the nachos had been slightly warmer, but that may be more of a personal preference. read more

This restaurant is found in L&L Market next to the Milkshake Bar. The people were super friendly and helpful when deciding tacos. The food came out very fast (about 10 minutes) and was delicious. They text you when your order is ready. I ended up with the fish and pastor tacos. The pastor taco was better than the fish but I still enjoyed both. The market is a nice vibe at night. Okay, where do I begin? First, this is one of many food offerings at this venue, like an upscale food court with boutiques and special shops. We came to this particular place because of a recommendation from someone who worked in one of the shops. Nice food choices, and a few tables nearby and some seats at the food bar, which is where we sat. However, very limited non-alcoholic drink choices forced us to get our drinks at another place and bring them back. This is a busy place - it took nearly 30 minutes to get our food on a weekend afternoon - even between normal meal times. While I don't remember what I had, I know I liked it more than G did. I can't really put this into words, but this just wasn't a great experience. I liked the food well enough but a bit pricy, the long wait, the poor drink selection and the ambiance combined to make me think how much better this could be in a stand-alone restaurant and some minor adjustments (like offering tea and diet sodas). For my reviews, I have a strict criteria. My experience at your establishment must be PERFECT. 5 stars on Yelp is perfect, so to receive that you have to be perfect. On the flip side...you can't give 0 stars, so 1 star means I have NOTHING good to say about you. While Taco Chela sucked IMO, there were a couple things good about it. To start with the good, They have an option to try every taco, multiple wrap options like corn flour or lettuce, and the bang-bang shrimp taco was awesome. Nothing else was actually that good. I could spend time telling you all the things wrong with this place, but I don't have enough room. So to be short, the food was bland, service was bad, portions were small, prices were high, and the only reason this place is always busy is because of its location. Take my advice, have dinner somewhere else, and then come have dessert at L&L or go to the brewery after, Don't eat here. Small taco shop in L&L Marketplace with limited bar seating, small drinks, portions, and knowledge of ingredients. This spot was pretty busy for an early Saturday evening, but I think that was more due to location than anything else. The ordering system was a little unclear. I wasn't sure if I should sit at the bar to order or go straight to the register. It turns out either works. The cashier seemed generally annoyed to be at work and wasn't very friendly. I ordered their original margarita, chips and guacamole, and the pork belly and pastor tacos. The margarita was fine, though on the small side. The amount of guacamole I received for $9 was laughable. It was fine. I could have gotten three times the amount from Kroger for that price and it would have been just as good. The salsa was sweet which threw me off as I was expecting spicy, but this turned out to be how all of the food here was. Both pork tacos were very sweet. Not a hint of spice. That's fine if it pleases your audience I guess. I'm just used to food with a bit more powerful a flavor. When a patron next to me asked about gluten free options, every person working there was completely clueless, even the chef, so she ended up going somewhere else to eat. Seemed pretty odd in this day and age and for a restaurant in a place like L&L Marketplace. I did like that they provided multiple taco wrapping options. Got the chicken burrito, extremely dry. They don't have much sauce option. Both the salsa and salsa verde were pretty spicy so not for everyone. I got a side of their chipotle crème which was a necessity. I guess I can't complain about the amount of chicken since it was 70% of the burrito but it was just so dry because of it. read more

Starting your meal off with a daiquiri is simply the only way to go! The bartender worked some magic because it was delicious and refreshing. My friends and I split the guac, which we didn't totally love but were happy with the portion because who doesn't love mindlessly eating chips while chatting with friends? I loved my carne asada taco! I enjoyed the sauces that I was able to put on the tacos, because i thought they could all use more spice but that might just be me! We ordered 4 tacos during off peak hours for a quick bite and waited for the text that our food was ready for over 30 minutes. My husband went to check on the food and saw several orders of food ready and sitting on the counter. The server was chatting at the bar and made several drinks before finally checking on the food once my husband asked. The food was room temperature and not worth risking eating while pregnant.
