Came here with some friends on a Friday night. The place itself is really cute with some nice outdoor seating. Perfect for a warm summer night. It's BYO...again, my favorite. The service was not bad. Our waiter was prompt and kind. The food? Just ehh in my opinion. Italian is soooo delicious and I can honestly say this was just eh. Nothing I ate stuck out to me as something I crave. I ordered the Gnocchi and I'm a huge Gnocchi fan. It was good, not the best I've ever had; not terrible either. The tomato sauce it came in, was not great. I ordered it with chicken and the chicken looked almost shredded...not a good fit for the Gnocchi. A friend of mine ordered a side of ziti with olive oil and garlic. The first order came out under cooked. She had to send it back because it was actually crunchy. They sent her another batch with no problem, al dente but better the second time around. Great meal! Split a salad- can't imagine getting a full one myself it was so large. Baby green, mango, pomegranate goat cheese in a balsamic vinaigrette- so delicious. It was so hard to choose an entree but I had a delicious chicken with peppers, eggplant and mushrooms in a wine reduction. Portion very generous- brought home half my meal. Food quality and overall service is very inconsistent. This restaurant was good when it first opened when there seemed to be some care towards the customer experience. Currently here on a Saturday night and it's pretty crowded. Nevertheless waiting nearly 30 minutes for a salad is unacceptable. Penne "vodka" was simply a salty cream sauce that wasn't vaguely the iconic pink suggesting that the sauce had attempted to be stretched by the kitchen. We were excited to try Ciao Bello following the good reviews we had read online. From the moment we arrived we were disappointed. BEWARE booking on open table because the woman at the front desk told me they do not receive those reservation, and our table was not available. She seemed annoyed. They finally found us a table which was still dirty. After being seated we waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come over. Another 20 minutes for her to bring our drinks, only to tell us she didn't have any more iced tea that we had ordered. Another 20 minutes for her to come back with the new choice of drink, only to then bring the iced tea. It was very busy, due to the nice weather, and it seemed as though staff was short handed. We asked for bread twice and we never received it. The food had nice potential but when it came out it was rubbery and Luke warm. There's definitely better Italian places in Cranford. To start the food is waaaay overpriced for the portions. Quality is inconsistent and sometimes under cooked. I feel like they use an excessive amount of oil for what's supposed to be a level above an average pizzeria. But it seems like it isn't The service is also inconsistent. The waitress seemed to be completely unsatisfied at work, but when you're in the service industry, you need to at least try and fake it. Service took an unacceptable amount of time. First time was excellent, which was surprising because fried calamari doesn't typically travel well (gets soggy), but theirs did not in their vented tray. I've ordered from this place several times and I love this restaurant. I always order for delivery and when I order through Seamless they say it will take about an hour or more for my delivery to arrive and they always deliver within a half hour. Such quick delivery I love it and their driver are all very nice. Also their food is soo good! I've gotten their chicken parm and personal pizza and I love both. Never heard of this place but found it on yelp when looking for a BYOB Italian place. Definitely helpful for this place to be on yelp because it is a bit hidden on a strip. The staff was extremely friendly and even helped me pick my food. The portions were very large and when my food finally came out it was absolutely amazing. I got the calamari that everyone was raving about as well as a cold antipasto. This was more than enough for four people. For my main course I ordered a pasta dish and my boyfriend got some type of chicken rollatini. I've been back three times since and I keep ordering the same thing because it was so good. Went here on a Tuesday night with my mother and toddler. This place is BYOB. The food was good, the service was lack luster. Let me elaborate. After we were seated we waited for 5-10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, it was not that busy. Now food: We started with the bread (as everyone does), it was sent out with olive oil. My mom likes to have balsamic vinegar with her olive oil for dipping so I requested it and it took awhile for it to arrive. When it did arrive, it was a thick balsamic dressing rather than vinegar. Ok. Next we shared the crab cake app with avocado salsa. This was pretty good. My tot had Mac & Cheese, no frills, they brought it out early as requested, great. We had the margarita pizza and Brooklyn square, these were ok. We had ordered diet cokes with our meals and they never came but were on the bill (seemed to be a challenging task to remove it from the bill). So the food was decent which would normally bring in a 4 star rating for me. What irked me was after our bread and appetizer, our appetizer plate and bread plates were not cleared. Then our personal pizza's were brought out on those raised metal pizza pedestals with no extra plates. Being a former waiter, I had already stacked up our dirty plates. My waitress was nowhere to be found so we made do. I'm hoping that they fix their service quirks because like I said, the food was good. Their outdoor patio is nice.
