Why 1-star. Well there's a limited flavor options and the first thing you are told is you can only have 1 sample of the gelato per person. Who does that?? It's like they have about 10 flavors available so it's not like you have that many testers you would want, but only One is rude. Then the cup is tiny for one serving and it's $5. They do not split flavors either. If you want 2 flavors split there an up charge for it. It is nice they have small tables and chairs outside to enjoy the miniature cup of gelato. Now I understand why it's dead inside and they are literally next door to a bustling Italian restaurant. Definitely much better options in the area that are more welcoming and kind to customers. read more

The restaurant is in a great location and very cozy. There is not much space for a crowd. The staff were congenial and speedy. I got the rum cake Gelato. The flavor was bland at best and at the bottom of my cup was a piece of ice that was partially straight ice and Gelato. I love gelato but not in this instance. read more

This is in the heart of downtown Venice. Buyer beware: they don't have marshmallow topping. But if you're willing to pass on that then they have what you want. Large or small, for some reason no medium cups. Oh and no samples allowed. I often wonder the back story on that. My recommendation would be the peanut butter. We had a large and a small for $16. Apparently the price of milk has gone up and the cows are demanding to be compensated. But if you're in the area then Ciao Gelato is the place to stop in and enjoy. read more

Stopped in for a sweet treat after eating dinner close by last week. Sadly the gelato is nothing to write home about, workers were two high schoolers that weren't particularly friendly or helpful. The desserts in the case look interesting but wouldn't return for gelato. read more

A sweet treat after a delicious meal! We stopped in to Ciao for some gelato and a little pick me up for myself, I saw they had affagatto so I decided to add butterfingers instead of being traditional. I will say the pull of espresso was very harsh I did however try to mix the gelato in more to help but I could taste it throughout. They've changed, portion sizes are now minuscule. They literally scrape the top off so the gelato is level with the top of the cup. Can't believe we paid over $10 for two tiny servings, just over 1/4 cup each! You can't even call them a scoop. So glad I didn't bring guests here because it would've been embarrassing! read more

Well this place went downhill:( our ho to place when we came to Venice. Haven't been here in a year or so and this time our experience was disappointing. They didn't give out samples; we got three different flavors in a bigger cup and it had no flavor and consistency was bad; to the point we threw it away. Our daughter ate a few bites of hers and we also tossed it. My husband got a banana pie only to find out it was more like a key lime so they gave him money back. The service wasn't friendly and exciting, and the place was dead. No music, nothing; just a stare from the other side of the counter. We walked down to the Venice Avenue Creamery and it was amazing; it will be our new go to place for sure! I still can't believe that the ice cream at Ciao Gelato was so bad we actually threw it away... it's a shame, but we are happy we found another ice cream place that's awesome. read more

Terrible gelato, I had two flavors last night and they were both so watered down. What I had did not even taste like gelato, more like a freeze dried ice cream. Also, they don't offer samples. I returned here for another sweet treat. I had a waffle cone with limoncello and banana cream gelato ($6.50?). The staff actually asked which flavor of gelato I preferred on the bottom, which I thought was nice. I did not have a preference. Regarding the taste of each flavor, I definitely enjoyed the banana cream more. Both were good, but the banana cream was just creamier to me. The limoncello was very powerful and I thought it had more of a feel to an Italian ice texture. The texture did not bother me, but that was the reason I preferred the banana cream. read more

Hazelnut Gelato taste good. My cake cone was stale. It's my first time in the shop, I feel like I was being rushed ordering. I didn't see they charged 3.75% for credit card use. Please bring cash when you visit the shop. They don't do sample tasting. It will be a good idea to to look at the flavors online before going. The staff sprayed cleaner on us (i have a baby with me) without paying attention while she was cleaning the table, I told her about it and apologize and she did it again on the other table. read more

The gelato is melting in the case it's not holding to temp .... No standard of quality , establishment smells of bleach and or toilet , and I ordered an espresso macchiato single shot she asked I said yes ... being afternoon ... I get a wasted full cup of steamed milk and some coffee ... who ever owns this place this young lady is not the vibe . Waste of money and tye establishment would have been shut down today that refrigeration doesn't hold temperature anymore . 3 stars for a-okay. As someone with dairy allergies I love having sorbet options -: 5 stars . They offered 4 sorbets!! Vegan chocolate, rum pineapple, wild berry and lemon. I was BERY no VERY disappointed that they did not or would not give flavor samples-: 1 star. 5/21/23 ... the pandemic is over so u can give samples again! As a local transplant I was really disappointed to see this. I wanted to try something different so I got the pineapple- and my partner chose berry. The berry was smooth and very delicious (5 stars) , the pineapple was Icy and not smooth (1 star). More like a weird popsicle gone wrong . If I was given the opportunity to try the flavors, I ultimately would not have picked this based on its texture alone. The berry was luscious creamy and smooth.and very good . Made my choice that much more sad. We chose this spot over nearby. Venice creamery as there was not a long wait. But ultimately, I don't know if I would return again, not being able to sample the flavors. This is just such a part of the experience and without a sample it's very hard to choose the best option. Cold and Refreshing After dinner last night we made our way down W Venice Ave to Ciao Gelato, looking for dessert. I went for the Salted Caramel and it was cold and refreshing. I'm not a gelato expert, but as a kid at heart I thought it was creamy and I loved the flavor. They do not have much room inside for seating, but we lined up in chairs along the wall to enjoy our frozen treats. We watched as customers came and went, all good interactions with the staff. One - great location right on Venice Blvd, with seating on the sidewalk for great people-watching and dog-petting. Two - They use coffee ice cubes. It seems this place has changed ownership or management as the product three of us sampled this week only distantly resembled what we'd previously enjoyed. Not only is the choice of flavors reduced but what we got was basic, weakly flavored ice CREAM, not GELATO. There is a vast difference; ice cream is not gelato and gelato seems to be MIA. We were mightily disappointed and doubt we'll return. And if it's ice cream we're to have, there's better ice cream at the local Publix. read more

Good gelato, nothing mind-blowing but it was a tasty cold treat on a warm December day. The staff was friendly and abided by COVID mask regulations (unlike some of the other eating establishments we saw in Florida). Nice little shop in Venice with great gelato and we love the Italian cookies. We have been in a few times and they don't make you feel welcome. Last night when we walked in just before closing the lady behind counter actually huffed and rolled her eyes!!! It's an overpriced food recycler. They asked if it was bad. I told them how awful it was. They said that maybe they needed to go back to their old supplier. Seriously?? Maybe they should actually try baking something. I mean, it is a bakery. They offered no refund. Stay away unless you like throwing your hard earned money away on frozen, stale, pre-packaged food. REPLY TO YOUR REPLY: First, I was unaware of the policy you mentioned and have removed the other business name. I just thought I would let people know that there definitely IS another place in Venice to get a Napoleon. My friend and I purchased two of them at the other business the very same day we threw yours in the garbage. Second, I have no problem paying the amount you charge, if the item is a quality product. The problem was paying that price (or any price) for something dry, stale, and rubbery. We made a special trip to Venice from Englewood to purchase Napoleons, not as far as Fort Myers, but still out of our way. I truly think you're missing the point of my review, which was our PERSONAL experience, the one and only time we tried your product. I wasn't writing about all of the other times your Napoleons were supposedly incredible. My review is only about the day my friend and I each purchased them from your store. You could have tried to make it right with us. You could have offered us a gift certificate to try them the next time we are in the area, so we could experience what you say everyone else experiences. Your employees could have been trained better and known what they should do if customers say the food they purchased was horrible and worthy of the garbage can. I politely asked if the items were made that day, and they filled me in on how things are done there. I told them the details of our experience and about how we threw them away. No offer of a refund, and I didn't ask. Buyer beware, I guess. You say in your reply that you would prefer to keep our discussion focused on "our own experience with you" rather than comparisons. You were given a clear explanation of our experience and all but ignored it in your reply. At the end you say you "regret that our visit didn't meet our expectations." My review was honest. It was what two adults with realistic expectations experienced with the only purchase ever made at your establishment. I have nothing else to go on. In addition, you are not the only provider of Napoleons in the county, as you claim. You're not even the only provider of Napoleons in Venice.

I've ordered a plain old cafe con leche and a vanilla latte and maybe 1 in 10 was tasty -- and by that I mean missing the bitter metal aftertaste I always hope isn't going to bite me on my first sip, and then it inevitably does. It's the same reason I avoid Starbucks establishments if I can: that same bitter aftertaste. Maybe it's the equipment used; maybe it's their beans: maybe it's their methods. Dubnknow. What I do know is a great hot caffeine beverage when I actually taste one. Not here, I'm (very) sad to say. Look, the pickings are slim in Venice for coffee, period, so I'm glad Serenity Sips is even an option. Too bad it just isn's an option that provides great taste.

I asked the owner (his picture is on the wall) the price. he replied $18.00 a pound. Since my daughter is only here for 2 days, I asked for a quarter pound. He asked what grind, and I told him. He ground the coffee, and handed the bag to my daughter. She said it felt like more than a quarter pound. he owner said it was a pound. I said we only ordered a quarter pound, and he said they only sold it by the pound. So I asked why he didn't tell us that when I ordered a quarter pound, and his terse reply was "you didn't ask".
