Stop to eat at this restaurant on our way to Austin.. and unfortunately it was a very bad experience. They sat us quick but when the food was brought out, it was not all together. My husband got his plate and i got mine like 15 later. Then the food had no taste. And at the end when we got up to pay at the register. My mom paid for us and was gonna leave a credit card tip. But i took out $6 (the only cash i had) and handed to the waiter and he counted it and looked at me and said "this is all? $6?" And i was like "yes" And he is like "is not enough" I was shocked. Let me start off by saying our waiter did not wear his mask properly (it is not a chin strap). Took 45 minutes to take our order. I had to repeat back to him what I was ordering verbatim from the menus because he was not familiar with the selections. The food finally comes and it is BAD. I had enough at this point. I asked our waiter if we could speak to the manager to which he said they had gone out to the store for bread or something. Now we all know people's tastes in Mexican food is like their tastes in Indian or Chinese. Some people love a place and some people hate it. I would rate Cielito Lindo middle of the road. First of all, the building is nice, well appointed, has a nice mural over the dining room, and is exceptionally clean! Wait service is prompt, attentive, and polite. The menu is extensive, reasonably priced, and they have a full bar. As for the food, the chips are thin and crisp and the salsa verde is very good. The red salsa is so-so; more of a jazzed up can of crush tomatoes. The cheese dip is a total pass; just plain Velveeta with a few jalapenos throw in. After I added some salt, pepper, and salsa it was tolerable. The little tacos are neat. More like tiny taco salads served in a tiny shell bowl. And they have a tasty beefy filling. I ordered the chicken chimichanga. The chicken was a bit stringy and bland. And it was presented more like a smothered burrito, not noticeably fried. Maybe they served me the wrong dish. It was not crisp or flaky, but kind of gummy and tough. Oh well. But, if you are traveling through Waller, TX off of Hwy 290, your dining choices will be limited. And the little taqueria down the street looked to be a real dump. But who knows, because sometimes dives can be great. There's also a Carl's BBQ nearby. read more

Not too many options in this area but the front desk agent recommended this restaurant over another Mexican restaurant. A colleague & I walked over and was seated right away. The server was new & didn't know if they served ginger ale. They didn't so I ordered a Sprite. Warm chips & salsa came right away. Service was good and the food tasty. I didn't know soup came with the order and didn't want it so didn't eat it. The chicken quesadilla was very good. The rice & avocado was also good and just enough to be full but not stuffed. So my son and went there today for lunch. Midway through eating I see him swat at something on his arm, then I see said object fly on the table dead. It was a cockroach that had originally landed on his head. We immediately told the waitress who gasped and said "sorry". Another lady came out about 5 minutes later saying that the roaches are coming out due to the chemicals they are spraying for COVID. Needless to say we could not finish our meal. My husband and I go to Cielito Lindo in Waller about once a month. We always get great, friendly service. I have ordered several things on the menu over time and haven't been disappointed. We both love the salsa verde and the queso (which our waiter always delivers with a big bowl of jalapenos for the hubs and a smile). I have definitely had better Mexican food, but given the options in this area it was not too bad. The queso was bland, but was better when we added some of their salsa. Their Margaritas were some of the better ones we have had- they were not too sweet. Cheese enchiladas are what I would be back for, despite their small size. This restaurant was surprisingly good. The atmosphere was fun and festive, though some of it was a little odd (a plastic Tropicana bottle filled with beans amongst other very nice decor). The salsas were delicious, one was a red sauce which was mild, the other was a green sauce with a slight kick. Their food was very good as were their prices. My husband enjoyed his green enchiladas lunch special. A few of us ordered tacos which came in a small bowl form instead of the typical taco shell. While they were quite tasty they were challenging to eat and ended up being messy. The service was good and all of the staff were attentive and helpful. The food here is pretty average Tex-Mex style food. Unfortunately, they do not offer as many Vegetarian options as I would like, but they are open to allowing modifications to their plates, so with a little work, I can get a Vegetarian meal for myself. They do offer a white rice option, which is wonderful, but no true Vegetarian beans. The food was good, but I felt like it was slightly overpriced. The Margaritas were typical, large frozen margaritas, but I imagine you could get them on the rocks - I did not order one for myself, just tasted one. I will say that this is a nice place to eat, so I would recommend it to anyone living in the Waller area. The wait staff is very friendly and since they do not write any order down, I am very impressed that they got my meal perfect. The owner walks around and chats with the patrons, which is a refreshing treat. Being from Austin, I am not used to restaurants that allow smoking anywhere inside, and even in the non-smoking area, I could smell a hint of smoke, which put a damper on things for me. This is a fine place to join my family since they live so far from the city, but I don't think I would stop here if I were choosing the restaurant. read more

I would actually rate this place about 3.5 So rounding up to 4 starts it is! I have eaten here MANY times, as my parents live in Waller and there is not a ton of competition. The food quality is very hit or miss depending on what you order. I recommend staying with the shredded chicken dishes, or ground beef dishes. The shredded chicken tacos are consistently tasty, flavorful tender meat, with crisp cool toppings such as pico, fresh tomatoes, and shredded lettuce. Have ordered them many times and always happy. I also enjoy the tamales here. The pork is tender and just a touch of spice, and the masa surrounding the meat is not overpowering in ratio. Another great thing is the borracho beans, they are made in house and seasoned perfectly, and come out with onions and bacon inside. So tasty! The fajitas can be great, but more often than not they aren't the best. The physical location, and the atmosphere of this restaurant are both fantastic. High ceilings, clean all around, wrought iron detailing on doors including the restroom, nice bar area, plenty of space between tables, and decorated with a modern touch. Nothing run down here at all. A bonus is that this is a very family friendly restaurant on one side, with a couple of different seating options including booths, tables, and even an area to the side for large groups. The other side of the place is set up more appropriately for couples or adult only tables, it is more separated for queter conversations and also is near the bar area if you desire a cocktail.
