The place wasn't overly packed but there was about 6 tables filled..... first time but not the last time, inside the place is clean and neat, I was greeted and sat down as soon as I came in and let's get to the food, the food was so good, ask for the green salsa, it's a creamy jalapeño Sauce it's addicting. We had the Travis plate and some chorizo with egg and barbacoa tacos, everything was so delicious. We arrived about an hour before close. We were starving and the day was a little too wild and it was too late to go home and cook. So we decided on this place, Romero's Las Brazas. We were greeted very kindly and showed to our seats. We were quickly served our beverages and all the drinks were cold and refreshing. We also ordered queso as our appetizer for the table and that was delicious and served in a timely manner as well. We all ate something different, but from the enchiladas to the garlic chicken and salad, everything was cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the setting here. Not only were the food and drinks really delicious, but our waiter was very fun and positive and saw to it that we enjoyed ourselves and our meal. Best REAL Southern Mexican Cuisine!! Close to us.. I passed through it everyday and never stopped. Today I had the most Natural ingredients breakfast I ever had in the USA... Came here on Sunday morning based in a friend's recommendation. We were seated immediately, which was a huge plus. I ordered the Especial de Travis plate and a barbacoa taco. My husband ordered the Cowboys Delight. I also enjoyed a yummy mimosa! The food was delicious! The tortillas were great, but the barbacoa was definitely the star! Take heed to all of these bad reviews. I have a rule of not trying anything rated less than 4 stars and this placed reminded me why I have that rule in place. We ordered takeout from this place last week. When we arrived we were not immediately greeted. Once we were acknowledged the waitress didn't seem too excited, but she was polite. I was really craving Mexican food and was so disappointed when we got home and opened the bag. When we were leaving my spouse mentioned it felt light. I should've checked it there, because we could've gotten a refund and just grabbed food from Burger King for a fraction of the cost. We would've at least known what to expect. The only thing that was hot with the order was the salsa. The kids quesadillas was a complete failure. I've never seen anything like it. The fajitas were cold and not worth more than $10. They gave us charro beans that were clearly topped off with water. I don't know if it was the bottom and they needed to make it stretch or what. We ended up throwing more than half of it all away. This is one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. I had not been here in several years because it was always bad. But we thought we would try out their happy hour. $4 was for a margarita, it was good. Their nachos were horrible. Their chips were hard and stale. They give you a teeny tiny, serving of sour cream and guacamole. They were flavorless. The queso with hamburger meat came in a small bowl, it was fair , it may have been Velveeta, I'm not sure? If you get the guacamole and they add tomatoes, it was so expensive! It was pretty good. The service was bad. We will not be going back there, even though we could walk from our home. It has never been a good place to eat. I don't know how it has such high ratings. The band that played tonight, on Friday, was not good at all. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm just telling the truth. I have eaten at hundreds of Mexican restaurants and I can literally say this is one of two of the worst I've ever eaten at. read more

Family friendly, awesome patio, consistently delicious, and the margaritas uhmmmmmmm.... Yum I have been going to both locations for years. I even find time to venture back to the old neighborhood after moving 25+ miles away for picadillo enchiladas, bacon wrapped shrimp or barbacoa tacos!!! Tampiquena is awesome! So is El Don! Fresh made guacamole is great too. Traditional Tex-Mex. Food is served hot! The breakfast tacos are awesome as well, try all three kinds they offer, really good. I prefer the Barker-Cypress location best, food prepared better and the meat (tampiquena and fajita) is larger cut and more tender. read more

We ordered two the ground beef enchiladas, small queso, large menudo & iced tea. The beef enchiladas were ok, the queso was just fine. The corn & flour tortillas were good & freshly made. However, the menudo & the side refried beans that came with the enchilada entree both tasted like they came from a can. There was no broth in the menudo soup rather it was almost a paste with way too much hominy & just a few bits of beef tripe that you had to hunt for. That's too bad, I wanted to love it. read more

Romero's may not be our family's first pick for Mexican food (Alicia's is our go-to spot) but since they are a lot closer to the family's neighborhood, it works in a pinch. Especially during that rush hour Barker Cypress traffic. People mostly rave about their happy hour and occasional live music. We didn't experience either, however, the shrimp cocktail and the salsas were our top favorites. The red salsas is served hot (in temperature and in flavor). The green avocado salsa was good too. My seafood enchiladas (served with a pesto sauce) was... interesting. Don't think I'd order that again. Stick with the ceviche, shrimp cocktail, salad and queso flamiado. The empanadas were so-so. Breakfast menu offered open until 11am; until 2pm on weekends Lunch menu offered Mon-Fri 11am-2pm Menudo and pozole available on weekends. First timer finally trying this location for Sunday brunch. I chose the Cowboy Delight at the recommend of our waiter and it did not disappoint. I chose the pork tamale. While I loved the flavor and presentation It did not follow the description on menu which was gravy and queso on top. The shredded cheese was good but I did want queso because I felt it was going to go great with the over medium eggs in top. The eggs were scrambled and not medium as requested. Again, tasted great but just wanted medium eggs and queso. The price was great for two of us @9.99 per meal. My daughter ordered and like Teresita's Breakfast. Had the Migas here today. When I asked for the tortillas I was instructed they did not come with tortillas. So we have a Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve tortillas and you best not be asking. WTF? Think I'll go elsewhere going forward. But in case you were wonder how were the Migas? Think of ordering an omelet at a place that can't make omelet's and just serves it scrambled egg style. We have heard great things about this restaurant, and went on a Saturday night instead of El Jimador or Los Cucos because we didn't want to wait and figured Romero's would be less crazy (which it was). Upon entering we stood there...and stood there...until a woman holding a bottle of cleaning supplies ambled up silently and gathered three menus. After looking at us expectantly, it finally clicked that she was our hostess and intended to a seat us. We followed her to a table, ordered our food and margaritas which were strong but not great. The dinner menu is a confusing mix of traditional Mexican cuisine and and tex mex - for instance my beef tacos al carbon came in street taco sized flour tortillas with cheese and onions (??) and my husbands pastor tacos were coated in a sauce reminiscent to Indian food. My daughter ordered tamales and loved them! Our Guacamole didn't have tomatoes, onion or garlic and the queso was canned meted cheese. Overall this place was...kind of a let down. I ate there tonight with friends. I ordered the taco salad. It had a total of 4 grilled chicken strips, a tablespoon of white crumble cheese, an overripe avocado, and large chunks of lettuce. I enjoy their breakfast. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I got tired of going to taqueria Arandas and wanted to try something new. As for the food prices here, they're just a lil more higher than Arandas but not by much. I've had their breakfast tacos and Chilaquiles verde. The chilaquiles doesn't come with any egg, so if you like eggs with yours, u have to pay extra for the egg. I had the salsa verde and it was really spicy and full of flavor . So very disappointed in the downgrading of this restaurant. We used to be very frequent patrons of this location. It was easy for us to get good Mexican food close to our house. Now, when you order to go food, you get about 10 chips with your overpriced order that may be correct if you are lucky. Along with those 10 chips you get, maybe 2 oz of salsa. One may say that is all you need with 10 chips. However, that is when you get one meal or 6!! It is so disappointing, I have requested more and have literally been told no! Even with purchasing queso you still do not get near enough chips or salsa for your meal. We will most likely never be back. I would suggest you not either. read more

Terrible unethical service! 2 stars only because the food was surprisingly good. We went in at around 2:30pm on a Monday and there was only one customer at the bar. We were greeted and had our order taken. It took 25 minutes to have two breakfast plates and 3 tacos ready. Wow! After our waiter took our order we never saw him again. Our food was finally brought out by a different guy. I asked for a refill on my coffee and more creamer. The coffee came but creamer didn't. A third guy comes by and I asked for creamer which was brought out to me but by that time my coffee was cold of course. Ladies and Gentlemen I want to introduce everyone to the only Mexican Restaurant I've ever seen that serves bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with jalapenos and cheese using pickled diced jalapenos. Being a really good cook myself, I can't even imagine why anyone would think this would be faster than just using regular sliced "raw" jalapenos. I warn anyone going here to not let any of the good reviews fool you. I found absolutely nothing tasty at this spot. But to make matters worst...not real beef. Yeah, pink slime strikes again. We ordered some Taco's a Carbon just to see how the beef taste and they served us taco's that looked almost like Taco Bell. What's with all the American cheese? Oh I know, to hide the fact that it isn't real beef. Sorry people, you can not pull fake beef on this research facility. (Area 51.) Must I continue? Yes I must. Let's not forget the service. We may have had 4 different servers and only 1 of which could answer any question you had to ask about the food. And then you go through all of the servers trying to order something prepared your way and it still comes out completely foreign....a sure sign, that there is no chef here, but allot of food preppers and a really nice microwave. Now for those looking for a great Margarita. I can't leave you out from this review. They have a really nice "looking" margarita. In this case, a picture is not worth a single word. Order some beef soup for dinner. It was as usual salty and I ended up added about another 16oz of water to the soup in order for it to be O.K. for consumption. The tortillas was just as bad as it seem to be left over and they steamed back to life attempts? I had Mexican food and I had bad Mexican food. This is as bad as it can get.
