Our table where we ate, drank and had a very good time as a family.
    Valarie M.

We arrived about an hour before close. We were starving and the day was a little too wild and it was too late to go home and cook. So we decided on this place, Romero's Las Brazas. We were greeted very kindly and showed to our seats. We were quickly served our beverages and all the drinks were cold and refreshing. We also ordered queso as our appetizer for the table and that was delicious and served in a timely manner as well. We all ate something different, but from the enchiladas to the garlic chicken and salad, everything was cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the setting here. Not only were the food and drinks really delicious, but our waiter was very fun and positive and saw to it that we enjoyed ourselves and our meal. I recommend this place if you're ever in the area.

Best REAL Southern Mexican Cuisine!! Close to us.. I passed through it everyday and never stopped. Today I had the most Natural ingredients breakfast I ever had in the USA... WOW it feels like going to grandma to eat... I never tasted something so nurturing. Please go, and taste the difference. I can name breakfast places around here that everybody knows... but why bother... LOL. I will be back to taste the other plates they have. Romero's Las Brasas at Longenbaugh and Hwy 6

Came here on Sunday morning based in a friend's recommendation. We were seated immediately, which was a huge plus. I ordered the Especial de Travis plate and a barbacoa taco. My husband ordered the Cowboys Delight. I also enjoyed a yummy mimosa! The food was delicious! The tortillas were great, but the barbacoa was definitely the star! My husband and I were not disappointed at all. Our server was timely and friendly. Overall, a great breakfast spot when you don't want to wait in long lines in Cypress.

First pic after taking everything out the bag. We immediately knew it wasn't worth the $60 we spent.

Take heed to all of these bad reviews. I have a rule of not trying anything rated less than 4 stars and this placed reminded me why I have that rule in place. We ordered takeout from this place last week. When we arrived we were not immediately greeted. Once we were acknowledged the waitress didn't seem too excited, but she was polite. I was really craving Mexican food and was so disappointed when we got home and opened the bag. When we were leaving my spouse mentioned it felt light. I should've checked it there, because we could've gotten a refund and just grabbed food from Burger King for a fraction of the cost. We would've at least known what to expect. The only thing that was hot with the order was the salsa. The kids quesadillas was a complete failure. I've never seen anything like it. The fajitas were cold and not worth more than $10. They gave us charro beans that were clearly topped off with water. I don't know if it was the bottom and they needed to make it stretch or what. We ended up throwing more than half of it all away. The only good thing that came from this place was the margarita. We payed $60 and felt this wasn't even worth $25.00.

This is one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. I had not been here in several years because it was always bad. But we thought we would try out their happy hour. $4 was for a margarita, it was good. Their nachos were horrible. Their chips were hard and stale. They give you a teeny tiny, serving of sour cream and guacamole. They were flavorless. The queso with hamburger meat came in a small bowl, it was fair , it may have been Velveeta, I'm not sure? If you get the guacamole and they add tomatoes, it was so expensive! It was pretty good. The service was bad. We will not be going back there, even though we could walk from our home. It has never been a good place to eat. I don't know how it has such high ratings. The band that played tonight, on Friday, was not good at all. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm just telling the truth. I have eaten at hundreds of Mexican restaurants and I can literally say this is one of two of the worst I've ever eaten at.

Romero's may not be our family's first pick for Mexican food (Alicia's is our go-to spot) but since they are a lot closer to the family's neighborhood, it works in a pinch. Especially during that rush hour Barker Cypress traffic. People mostly rave about their happy hour and occasional live music. We didn't experience either, however, the shrimp cocktail and the salsas were our top favorites. The red salsas is served hot (in temperature and in flavor). The green avocado salsa was good too. My seafood enchiladas (served with a pesto sauce) was... interesting. Don't think I'd order that again. Stick with the ceviche, shrimp cocktail, salad and queso flamiado. The empanadas were so-so. Breakfast menu offered open until 11am; until 2pm on weekends Lunch menu offered Mon-Fri 11am-2pm Menudo and pozole available on weekends. There is an enclosed dining area for private parties, USB outlets at the bar (thoughtful idea), cute decor (love the Frida tiles in the ladies room).

Fajitas and parrilladas, molcajetes, enchies, ceviches, caldos... they serve an array of Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. Staff is always friendly and energetic--it's def a neighborhood restaurant! And they have a drive thru. I believe they do tequila tastings/tequila dinners. I've only had a few margaritas there, and unfortch haven't really liked 'em (a lil too sweet, even the skinny marg). Given all the shortcuts that so many restaurants take, this place deserves a "5" just for the fact that they do make everything themselves. And our meal was really excellent as well and a very fair price. We started with a Cheese quesadilla and our special request to have onions in there as well. It was good. For brunch we ordered the $12 Concha French Toast because Mr. Picky has a sweet tooth. That is Concha bread soaked in vanilla bean custard, topped with caramel, toasted coconut, cinnamon, whipped cream and berries. Mr. Picky didn't even need the side syrup. I like savory items and I so ordered the El Valle which was also $12. Two cheese enchiladas which I topped with sunny side up eggs, served with white rice and refried black beans. I added seasoned ground beef into the enchiladas and that was an extra $2. I requested white cheese enchiladas, don't know if that was standard or not. I am not a huge bean lover, but I have to tell you that the refried black beans on that plate were delicious. Very filling dish, tasted really good and it was a great value. Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday from 9am-3pm. I think this is the best breakfast/brunch I've had in the past two years. Generous amount of food and I couldn't finish it all. They have a bakery section and we walked over to look and see what we wanted to have for dessert. We couldn't decide between the interesting-looking carrot cake, the praline cheesecake or flan on top of chocolate cake. So we ordered and shared all three! LOL. Our favorites were the carrot cake and the praline cheesecake. I think this is the best breakfast/brunch we've had in the past two years. Generous amount of food and I couldn't finish it all. Five stars for making everything themselves, waiter Eduardo was very helpful, and we're definitely coming back soon!!!

"My Homework Turned Into Date Night (with Myself)" 02-14-26…read more I came here on Valentine's Day to do a writing assignment my professor gave us, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food all the same. When I walked in, the hostess offered to seat me in the private party area. I declined and told her, "I'm here for a writing assignment," and asked if I could sit somewhere with a clear view of the bar. She didn't hesitate. She told me to follow her and led me to a booth with a clean, perfect shot of the bar, front row without having to climb onto a stool. She handed me a menu and told me to enjoy my evening. The bar itself was shaped like an oblong oval ring with gold seats lined up like little lifeboats, almost like a ship's bridge. Above it, about ten flat screens hovered in an oval formation, suspended in the air. Upside-down margarita glasses and champagne flutes hung overhead like delicate chandeliers in an expensive mansion. The bar area was filled with couples and solo diners enjoying the screens, sipping margaritas and champagne, and crunching on complimentary chips and salsa. Customer service was fantastic. My server, Ale, was highly energetic, lively, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I felt very well taken care of during this dining experience, which was supposed to just be a writing assignment, but it turned into a rewarding little night out. The complimentary chips and salsa were also pretty good. The atmosphere was vibrating at a high-energy level. There was loud laughter and conversation all around, the sound of dishes clanging in the kitchen, servers moving back and forth, and bussers scanning the room for abandoned tables to clean. For my appetizer, I ordered the shrimp crab cake along with a Cucumber Melon Margarita on the rocks. Both were absolutely delicious. The crab cake was mouthwatering and delectable, and that margarita was refreshingly fruity and strong, so good I ordered a second one. For my entrée, I ordered the beef fajita plate for one with cilantro rice, charro beans, and corn tortillas. I also added a side of the La Viva Shrimp (bacon-wrapped). I don't eat pork often, so I peeled the bacon off, and even without it, the shrimp was exceptionally tantalizing, full of bold seafood flavor. My entire plate was the bee's knees. I can't even explain how good the food was. Food Ratings Shrimp Crab Cake: 5/5 La Viva Shrimp: 5/5 Beef Fajitas: 5/5 Cilantro Rice: 5/5 Charro Beans: 5/5 Overall, La Viva Cantina is an upbeat, lively spot serving delicious comida with great customer service and an inviting atmosphere. The food was good, flavorful, and satisfying, but I would not say it stood out as amazing or the best Mexican food I have had. I would compare it to the Chili's of Mexican food. It gets the job done, it tastes good, but it is not super authentic or unforgettable. What really stood out was the service. It was truly extraordinary. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel welcoming. That level of service is honestly the main reason I would come back. Price wise, it felt a little high for what you get. I cannot say it was much better than something like Chipotle, even though it was about double the price. That said, the environment makes a difference. The restaurant has a fun, lively vibe, and it looks like they have great drinks and margaritas, even though I did not try any this time.
