I had the best experience yesterday. First let me say I am very picky and have gone through about 5 stylist for numerous reasons, mostly in lack of confidence in skill. But I have to say this place rocks!!! I called to inquire about hilites and pricing, I was greeted by Elsa who recommended I stop by for a consult. I went in and brought some pictures, she gave very accurate expectations. And time line. My hair was overly processed with box dye, and need help, let alone new style. I returned the very next day for the process, she put on a protein builder to protect my hair, cut and spent a generous amount of time ensuring it was done perfectly. She laid down the hilites and didn't wonder off she stayed close by to make sure they were developing the way she wanted. Elsa has an amazing gift, and is a very warm personality. I'm not only happy with my results.. I'm happy I found this awesome salon. Pricing: for the amount of work my hair required I found it very reasonable. Some people post it is more expensive, but experience and perfection are worth every penny:) read more

Furst time after Covid, I decided to get my hair colored. I used to go to Spoke & Weal before so this time I decided to go a bit cheaper and try other Aveda salons. Boy, was I disappointed. The lady kept telling me that I have been using henna in my hair. I told her multiple times that all I have used is color boxes from CVS during Covid. But she insisted that she has a lot of experience and she is confident that I have used henna and color will come out different. I told her I can write a paper for her that there is no henna or any other natural dye. She even called her boss Alma. I fell so uncomfortable in this place because of them assuming that just because I am Indian looking I use henna. They need more confident colorist so they don't accuse their clients before coloring. Had to just walk out. Just a waste of time! read more

I made an appointment at this salon for color and cut more than a week in advance. They first called the day before to say they can't do both but can only accommodate cut at 3 pm, but I should show up alone time. I get here at 3 pm and both the stylists seem busy. I politely wait till 3:10 and ask again. She then comes to me to say - "yes I am running late by another 10 - 15 minutes. you can reschedule if you want to". Wait. What's with the attitude. Like I made a mistake by showing up on time. How is this place even operational with that work ethic? Who comes and hangouts for 20-25 minutes waiting for a trim appointment that isn't longer than 20 mins. Terrible customer experience. Avoid. read more

Love, love love this salon. I have gotten everything done here. Haircuts, highlights, semi-permanents, touch-ups, dramatic color changes (from light brown to platinum blonde), you name it! The staff is very friendly and I have been seeing Elsa for many years and have never had a bad experience. They DO NOT ask for your credit card information as another reviewer mentioned. Not sure why someone would say that when Cielo has never done this. I love that they use Aveda color and products all around. The Aveda color is very gentle and the stylists mix the color themselves in the back. The highlights I have received were very close to the scalp, and were exactly as I asked for. I wanted it to look natural so Elsa did them very thin over my natural hair color so that even if I didn't come in for a touch up right away, it would still look great. She also has been doing my husbands haircuts since we got married and I have been very satisfied. So much better than the great clips he was going to before. I've recently moved to Austin but whenever I get the chance to visit the Bay Area I will undoubtedly stop in to get my hair done. I have recommended Cielo to a lot of my friends and they also have loved the service. read more

I attend several events a week and love that I can book out weeks in advance for for my touch up and high lights with Alma. I started coming to Cielo Salon for the convenience as I could walk from my house from up the road. My whole family: self, wife, daughters get our hair cut here. The time and consideration tailored to my specific hair needs, understanding how my hair grows, exceeds anyone that prior cut my hair. My hair is easier to manage and looks its best as a result of the salon's care. Overall, you feel like part of the family and it's a relaxing experience as you chat about life and get your hair done. I'm providing an update to my earlier posting as promised. I did get my hair highlighted by Alma and she did a truly excellent job. I like highlighting to look pretty natural and Alma accomplished it beyond my expectations. I can easily recommend Alma and Cielo Salon and have finally found my new 'home' for hair care! If I could give 0 stars I would. Went in for highlights and they destroyed my my hair. The highlights were orange and coppery. My hair felt like yarn after and when I complained and asked that they fix it, the manager said " did you see how you looked when you came in? You should be happy you look like this compared to before" I refused to pay but they had my card from when I booked the appt and charged it. I had to call my bank and file a fraud claim. Two words for this place..Rude and overpriced. I walked in because this business is right next door to my house. I asked if I could get a bang trim and whoever was working at the front desk just gave me a dirty look and said "No". I asked for a quote for a hair trim and a root touch up (nothing special). She said "$200". I guess they do not need new customers. read more

I wish I could give this place a negative number. Even 0 doesn't adequately describe how bad my hair looked after leaving the salon. The color was coppery orange and the hair cut was coarse and uneven. The "Highlights" looked so unnatural I think I could have done better if I put a paint brush in my dogs paw and let him have at my hair. My daughter told me "mommy your hair looks yellow and ugly...what happened". They promised to fix my hair, but like another reviewer never delivered on their promise. I went to another salon to get it fixed, and they reacted with a gasp and said..."oh you tried to do it on your own?". I paid $100 an hour for 3 hours at another salon to get my hair fixed. I also paid up front based on the promise they would fix it and they never did. Total money down the drain...$550. Beware!!! read more

I have been coming to Cielo Salon for over two years, since moving from New York City, where we had grown accustomed to great haircuts and salons. My wife, mother-in-law and two sons also go to Elsa regularly and we couldn't be happier. Elsa is fabulous, giving great haircuts, reliable service and relaxing treatments. I have been to Elsa at Cielo Salon 3 times now. I wanted to wait before writing this review to ensure that I was getting consistent, good service every time. I moved from SF over a year ago and was nervous about finding a new salon. After trying a few hip, overpriced and snooty salons, I walked into Cielo. It's a modest yet, comfortable, affordable and relaxing salon. Appointments are easy to schedule. They are open on Saturdays. The location is convenient. Parking is easy. They use AVEDA products which I religiously use. They also sell AVEDA products for men and women ranging from skin and hair products to makeup. Elsa told me she has 16 years of experience and it shows! She is professional and comfortable with what she does. She listens to my particular concerns and tries to address them. She remembers my specific needs and hair issues. And she remembers things I mentioned in conversation months ago on my last visit that my own family forgets to ask about! I have thick shoulder length hair and have only gotten $55 cuts. I understand they also do color. During all my visits, I have only seen two stylists and one or two other customers at a time - so you get plenty of individualized attention. The receptionist is a particularly sweet young girl. Such a welcome relief from the flaky, snotty receptionists at overpriced, trying-to-hard-to-be-exclusive salons around here. I gave Cielo Salon 4 stars because they were out of stock on a couple of my favorite Aveda items 2 out of 3 visits. read more

Short explanation: Great haircuts, friendly staff, but I got better hair color from a box for $6.99. I'll start with the positive. I received a great haircut at this salon and the employees are very nice and friendly. If you need a haircut they do a great job for a good price. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for hair color. I was originally going to the Aveda salon in Menlo Park. They did an amazing job everytime with the color but unfortunately my stylist left. I decided to try out Cielo because it is a bit cheaper. Big mistake. I stupidly gave them three chances with the color because I really wanted to pay the lower price. The first time I went for a dark brown. I left with orange roots. The second time the stylist did a good job and I was satisfied. The third time again I had orange roots. She used the excuse that I had waited too long and the roots had gotten so long that they turned out lighter than the rest of my hair. I might have been gullible enough to believe this excuse if I hadn't consistently gotten excellent results from the salon in Menlo Park even after waiting long periods of time between colorings. She offered to fix it the following week but I have two young babies and don't have time to make two trips every time I get my hair done. The results were definitely not even close to worth the price. I actually went out and purchased a coloring kit from Target for $6.99 and received better results than what I got from Cielo Salon. read more

I get reliably good, professional male haircuts from this salon tucked back in the Emerald Hills area. There is a nice cafe next door to kill time in before your appointment. I am glad there is something between GoofyCuts and the snooty high-end salons for this simple, clean cut man to get a reliably good haircut at an affordable price. It is a quiet and soothing experience unlike driving into the busier parts of town. That's all that really matters to me and this place always meets expectations. read more

I've had my hair cut by Alma at Cielo Salon for about 6 years. She is very professional and ready to give honest advise. There are only 2 stations and often I'm the only customer there, so I get great personalized service. Start to finish a haircut takes about an hour and a half which includes a great massaging wash and styling with a flat iron. I've run in to get a quick haircut and run out with wet hair as well. Prices are reasonable and I usually buy some Aveda product while I'm there. read more

Danielle is GREAT! I needed a new hairdresser and based upon her yelp reviews I chose her. When I scheduled my appointment, she talked to me for about five minutes about my hair, what works and what I didn't like about my last haircut. This gave her time to think about my cut before we even met. No hairdresser has ever discussed my hair and styling preferences at the time of the booking before; I was already a fan. She is great with short hair, she certainly knows how to keep a short hair cut looking feminine. At the end of the cut she also asked to photograph my cut, another first in my experience. She convinced me in my first visit that she is worth following anywhere for a great cut! For now I love that she is here in Encinitas at such a relaxing location. read more
