The problem is the salon's management and their decision to upcharge me simply because I have curly hair. At a previous appointment, I was told that I would be charged more next time because my hair "takes longer." My hair is average in length and fullness, not thick or coarse. I only get a blowout with a flat iron add on, which they do not even list as a service. Despite that, I decided to return and accept a small increase. Instead, they added almost 80 dollars to my service, bringing the total to 186 dollars for a basic blowout and flat iron. I have been to celebrity stylists in Malibu who charge far less for the same thing. Their justification that my hair takes longer is not accurate. My hair has never taken more than 1.5 hours at any salon, including this one. It feels unfair and uninclusive to suddenly raise prices on clients with curly hair after months of consistent appointments. I expected better from a business in Belmont. I hope they reconsider how they treat clients with textured hair. Curly hair should not come with a penalty. Here are previous booking receipts to show how much my service used to cost and the 72% price increase that they told me would occur next time

What a great experience! My son liked going to a place in Foster City that closed up, and we were worried that we couldn't find one that my son would go to. He wasn't a fan of the buzzing by his ear in general. From the very first time he went to Belmont Hair Studio, he was excited to go. Both stylists (a mother-daughter combo) are super nice and very sweet to him. He has always felt comfortable and even lets them buzz the clippers by his ear. He also asks when we are going back to them. I would have never guessed that my son would come to an adult barber so soon, but they made it an effortless transition! They are very accommodating and easy to get a hold of. We made a call and they let us know which time slots would have less traffic and to come in then. They jotted our name down and we came at the appropriate time. I have also seen walk-ins come in without a problem. They serve adults and children alike. My experience with Belmont Hair Studio was from my son's visits as I cut my own hair. They are fair with their prices and will get you in and out of there in a jiffy! I specifically asked if the stylist understood the issue and knew what needed to be done, and I was assured that they did. Unfortunately, once the haircut started, there was no communication about how much hair would be removed. The very first cut on the sides was much shorter than I expected, and at that point there was no way to undo it. If the stylist had explained their approach or confirmed the length with me first, I would have had the opportunity to say that it wasn't what I wanted. What disappointed me most wasn't just the final result--it was the lack of communication. When a customer brings reference photos and asks questions beforehand, I expect the stylist to explain the plan and make sure we're aligned before making irreversible changes. I left feeling that my concerns and the reference photos were not really taken into account. I hope the salon can improve communication with customers in the future so others don't have the same experience.

She always does a little consultation at the beginning to make sure you are both on the same page about what the final result should be. She is also really good at picking up on something you might not be sure about and will always tell you the truth about up keep on a style. This is great for me because I'm a low maintenance girly and appreciate that she will tell me maybe red isn't the best options for me based on up keep. Not only does she want to give you the hair of your dreams, but she wants to make sure she keeps your hair healthy. I've had problems in the past with stylists who just slap on some bleach and use the toner as a fix it. Which kind of leaves you with a mess once your toner washes out. My hair pulls really golden and I still don't have a problem with feeling too brassy when I've gone to Maria. Last time she toned my hair once in about a year and a half because it still looked so good! My hair is one of the pieces of me that is so important and I truly don't feel good without it being perfect. I have never left her chair not having it be just that!! Nobody rushed me with "hello what do you want" or shoved a color wall in my face before I even sat down. I actually felt like a person, not just another number to get in and out. Other salons trained me without me even noticing, packed into a tiny space, treated like I'm on a conveyor belt, rushed out before my nails even had time to properly dry. Towels were fresh, equipment looked properly cleaned, none of that murky blue water sitting in a dirty container that's clearly been there for who knows how long. I spent $150 ($50 deposit, $100 day of service) for gel nails that haven't even lasted as long as regular polish. Not to mention, when I arrived there were no instructions on how to get into the building. No signage. No way to communicate with her. I almost left until she texted me 7 minutes after the scheduled appointment time. I'm pregnant and I was out waiting in the rain as I had taken a Lyft there. I want my money back! I couldn't even wait until I left to start writing this. I'm currently in my car, in the parking lot of Sasha Salon, typing away... First off, a little background- I have been going to the same amazing stylist, at OxenRose Salon in SF for years and years. She's actually a close friend of my fiancés. Because we moved to Fremont, and I work late during the week in San Mateo, getting in to see her has been impossible :/ I also don't really trust anyone else with my hair because of horrible past experiences and because I have had some medical issues that, for a long time, made my hair really thin and brittle. Now that my hair (and my body!) is starting to get healthy again, I have been able to grow it out (2+ yrs later!) to midway down my back. I have been terrified of anyone else but my longtime stylist touching it. I usually only wash my hair 1-2 times per week (unless I go for a run or exercise but haven't been able to with my health), using Sacha Juan dry volume powder in between. *Just a side note: Sacha Juan products are gold. They pass Kerastase by far.. And that is sayin something!! Hard to find but oh so sweet when you do! Skip ahead 2 weeks- I haven't been feeling 100% again and went a week and a half without washing. I work in an environment where my hairs up in a messy bun anyways. I knew I needed a good pampering and a trim but also knew with my work schedule being so hectic that I'd never make it to OxenRose for an appointment. I spent 3-4 days reading review after review on all the local hair salons. While Sasha Salon was on the pricier side, I kept coming back to their Yelp page. Wow! Am I glad I did! I called at 11am on a Friday (today) and got an appointment for 6pm the same day with a senior stylist. Christina was so sweet in greeting me and instantly made me feel comfortable. I explained a little about my health stuff because it pertained to the condition of my hair. The woman knows what she's doing!! The wash was so relaxing and she even listened to my request for cold water because I was so hot from working all day. After the wash, I knew I wanted a "clean up" but also that I wanted a bit of longer, side swept bangs but was worried that they would be too short. Christina knew exactly what I wanted... Even when I wasn't 100% sure what I really wanted. Conversation went smoothly, as I can get a little chatty if I'm nervous. With Christina, it was like talking to one of my girlfriends. We talked about weddings (she's going on a year and I'm recently engaged), living situations, just normal "friend" talk. I couldn't even begin to tell you how relieved I was that she was just so down to earth and didn't try and push products on me or sell me a different style of cut that I didn't want. I was done in about an hour. She even took the time to add the products I like and big curlers up top so I can get the volume I like. We traded favorite products and had some good laughs. The end result was absolutely amazing. Who knew a trim, some layer clean up and a long side swept bang could turn my stressful day into something positive! After my appointment was done, I made sure to leave a really great tip for Christina because she has no idea how her sweet personality and talented styling skills impacted my day in such a great way. With my recent health issues, it's been scary losing hair, having it thin a little and just not feel like my usual "pretty" self. Sure, my fiancé says he can't tell and I'm still pretty to him but he HAS to say that lol! Christina brought back my confidence 110% and I'm so grateful to her for that. I don't think she realized how awful I felt, yet still gave me excellent customer service and an awesome cut and style. I even made an appointment to get my highlights done in 2 weeks... Another review will sure to come from that. I'm actually excited for that date to come! If you are nervous about trying someone new or try out a new place, go see Christina. Kelly Cendak has been my hair stylist for five years and she is simply sensational, a true artist and professional. Kelly has turned what used to be a most dreaded experience into a fun one, and I always leave her feeling delighted and terrific. She is very personable and has the gift to listen and understand her clients to respond to their wishes. She is very talented, has a lot of experience and is always learning about news trends and techniques. She always has great advice and ideas to give to lead to the best results. Not only is she the most amazing at her job, but conversing with her is invariably elating and enriching. She is the best! Last, but not least, I must say I love the décor of the salon. Whatever your beauty needs are, look no further than Kelly. This chick is a GENIUS when it comes to your hair. She has been taking care of my hair for about 6 years now and believe me when I say there's no one better. I've followed her even to San Francisco and back. She's the only person who's actually listens to what you want while giving you advice whether or not it will look good on me or not. In my opinion, honesty from your hair stylist goes a long way. I don't do drastic things to my hair but somehow Kelly manages to tweak my look here and there so I'm never bored. I love her! I was in this past weekend, and I was very impressed with the service! First off I just moved into the area a couple months back, and I asked for recommendations around the Palo alto area. I was recommended to this place twice by co-workers. I am glad I took their recommendations even before looking into Yelp. I went in with long black hair and came out with a beautiful Balayage by Jessica. She is a wonderful stylist, she listens to your request and will also be honest if its achievable. Even though I went in with thick and a good amount of hair, she was patient and worked with me until closing time. I will definitely be going back, and will request Jessica again! Sasha Salon is what a full service hair salon should be! Sasha has gone above and beyond in the design of this space, allowing for tons of natural light (so important for hair color), ambience and decor down to the last detail. I noticed that every spot I sat in last night had a unique view or eye catching detail that further reinforces this salon is the place to be! Erica is a fabulous stylist to see at Sasha. She takes care of her clients and knows how to deliver what the client wants! From the moment you walk in the door, she is welcoming and makes you feel at home. I seriously love this place so much. Thank goodness for Cristina and her amazing coloring skill. She had an eye for what I needed as her client. Nothing more and nothing less. I really like Phil too, he cuts hair at the salon. He has cut my hair for a really long time and there is a reason I keep going to him year after year...it's because he is the best. So I really should be thanking Phil for introducing me to this salon where I met Cristina who does perfect color jobs every time. I don't know where my hair would be without her, after a series of horrible color jobs, she was able to real me in and tell me what I needed to hear. Great salon. Friendly receptionists up front and staff that pampers you. Their hair washes are amazing bc they massage your scalp! I see Raquel. What I like about her is she teaches me about hair and pigment and styles and what to do and not to do. Always, always listens to what I'm saying and has time and time again given me a cut and/or color that I absolutely love. I can confidently say I love my hair color right now. There's a balance of natural color with highlights, and the best compliment of all is people say I look younger. I love Sasha Salon! I followed Kim from Stilo Salon in Redwood Shores and I'm so glad I did! The place is huge and I love how the lighting flatters me. Sasha Salon is chic. The staff are talented and professional. The product lines they use and have for purchase are of highest quality. Kelly Park Cendak has been my colorist and stylist for several years. I can't say enough positive things about her expertise. She is am amazing. I get compliments about my hair all the time. This was my first time going into the salon. I found the person who answered the phone and give me an appt to be friendly and competent. My stylist was Christina and she really knows what she's doing. She gave me a one process color and hair cut. She styled my hair and then curled it. I looks about 10 years younger. Thank you Sasha. Trust Sabah Munayer. She does her magic and transforms me every time, so that I look my very best. Thank goodness I found her many years ago. Strangers still come up to me and say "I love your hair!" It is nice to know that I never need to search for another stylist. You will see how gifted Sabah is. She will know exactly what to do. read more

Just visited the salon for the first time today. What a beautiful place Sasha has created! Big, open space with great light and lovely furnishings. I followed Kelly there from Stilo in Redwood Shores and I'm so glad I made the move. But then again, how could I live without Kelly? Perfect cut and color every time. read more

My hair didn't look great when I left the salon but after I went home and looked at my hair closely, I felt I really have to standup for myself. The cut itself is super choppy as you can see in the photo, looking like a shelf that's in fact shorter in the back? This is also not what I showed her, for cut or styling. Let's say my instructions were not clear.. this is still not a look you want to leave with when you leave a proffesional. I just feel ugly really.

I called ahead worried that I couldn't make my appointment to try to be considerate. No one answered because they don't have a dedicated person answering the phone. I left a message requesting a call back. No one called me so I figured it was too late. I made a 2 hour drive to make it to my appointment only to find out that they considered me canceled without returning my call. I was upset clearly. And I would have left it alone but as I was standing outside texting I could then hear the ladies talking about me. First salon ever to make me feel bad about trying to honor an appointment.
