First of the man is super knowledgable, he new exactly what to offer based on my price point and flavor profile. Second his costumer service is beyond any rating systems. Fantastic experience from start to finish. I was first introduced to Gregg after being taken to one of the monthly cigar socials they hold (which if I didn't live so far away, I'd be a regular attendee at..) At the time, I hadn't smoked a cigar in 3+ years - but the atmosphere, company & quality of cigar soon had me chomping at the bit to get back into it. Since then, the wife purchased me a humidor from Gregg as a Christmas gift and after a few ill-fated shopping experiences around my local area I decided why not go back to the best? I now make a regular-ish trip from HB down to Oceanside to see Gregg, get his advice, smoke a cigar and restock the humidor a little before heading home. It is absolutely worth the drive - great advice, decent prices, no bullshit and fantastic customer service. Why waste the money where you aren't cared about as a customer, when you can come here instead? To give you an example of how "above and beyond" they go - I was having trouble keeping the humidity above 66% in my humidor & Gregg recommended an additional Xikar humidifier bar to go in. Not only did he refuse to charge me for the bar "for my trouble" of driving from HB, he made me promise to call him in 3-4 days and let him know how the humidity was doing. I've lived in Oceanside for 6 years now and the local cigar shop was one of the first visits I made in town. Few things in life relieve stress like a glass of great scotch and a very fine cigar. That means Garcia y Vega should NEVER be on the shopping list. The owner (Gregg) has been there for over 11 years and really knows his business. He tests all of his cigars and has a review stored in his brain somewhere where he can pull it up at a moment's notice. I wanted a cigar that tastes like a Montecristo White but costs a little less than the $16 apiece they're asking. He steered me towards another cigar that was less than half the price and also a few others he thought I'd like. I had him cut the cigar and I walked around town for an hour trying it out. It was very close the Montecristo but not close enough. The next few days I smoked the others and found a new favorite. I've been buying them weekly for the last 5 years now. The shop itself is very comfortable and there's a small smoking lounge where you can sit in comfort and talk cigars with a variety of like minded folks. Most nights you'll find several cigar smokers lounging and bringing up all sorts of dialog. My kinda place. Prices? It's a retail establishment. With cigars you'll always save big money ordering on the internet. California makes it difficult to save money unless you do so. I'll admit that I try a few cigars at the Grotto and then buy them online by the box. There's just no better place in Oceanside to try a variety of fine, fresh cigars than Cigar Grotto. read more

I found the Cigar Grotto on yelp and saw the stellar reviews so I had to take a short trip to the shop. Immediately the place felt like home. Greg met me inside the humidor and politely introduced himself. I didn't get any of that "you don't belong" vibe here. Even the regulars that were there were incredibly hospitable. Great selection and from the little experience I have, great prices. If you smoke cigars, you have to go here. I have been going here since the day after I turned 18. I walked in, didn't know anything about cigars, Gregg told me everything I needed to know and suggested some good ones, and I have been coming back at least once a week since. The place has leather couches, a couple of big t.v.'s, a great humidor, and a wide selection of cigars and accessories. You can find anything from the $3 cutters and cigars to $50 cigars to top of the line humidors, cutters and lighters. On my recent visit to Greg, I was impressed. Quite an impressive selection of cigars, like OpusX, Padrons, Liga Privada, and many more. The prices are very competitive. I was in Oceanside on vacation and wanted a cigar. I ended up running in to the Cigar Grotto the first night I was in town. Gregg helped me get a cigar and I was back out the door. The next day I tried out two other "cigar" shops and they didn't even compare. I went back to the Cigar Grotto with my wife and started to get two more cigars. I also asked about pipes as I am a novice in that area. My husband and I love it here! It's so ridiculously friendly. I always have my daughter strapped to my back in a carrier walking around Oceanside and as soon as we walk in for a couple of minutes to restock, employees are asking where "their princess" is and my kid smiles at them every time.
