Best burgers. Fresh ingredients. Innovative menu. When I lived in lacombe one summer with my boyfriend. This place was the best place to eat in the city. It specializes in pub food and I love all the burgers here. Personally the rotating menu of burgers are my go to here. My faves being the lamb burger, bison burger and the nacho burger! Out of the entire menu. I would have to recommend the duck wings. They are my favourite being so sweet and tangy. I just want them on every visit. The portions are large and I always have difficulty finishing my meal. But thats not a bad thing bc I always have leftovers. They have some cool instagram worthy drinks which are topped with a burger on top. I haven't tried them since I'm not really a drinker and I always have to drive a significant way to get here as I'm from edmonton. So we were on a road trip and stopped in here for lunch. Nice place that looks like a gastropub. We had some beer and a cocktail flight. Everything was delicious. For food I went with the mushroom ravioli while my husband had the burger. We decided to split the mussels. Everything was delicous, but the mussels were the best. The broth was spicy and flavourful. The only thing that was lost a star is that the servers were scattered and unorganized. Three of them where standing a talking at the bar when we could have had our water refilled. It took forever to get things like salt and pepper. And it didn't need to be. I will eat here again but probably in the Red Deer location to see how organized that place its. The drinks were DELISH! So many things I wanted to try on the menu. Disappointed with what we ordered. To sum it up, it lacked flavour. The presentation of the food was beautiful, the description on the menu and the name of things were very creative and playful. Had hipster vibes for sure. A short drive from Edmonton but worth it. A reservation on the weekends is recommended but with one we were quickly seated. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Nope! Overpriced and bad service. Maybe it was just an off night for them but the server who brought us our food didn't want to give us the ketchup (she already had it in her hand) she told us we should order it - we had with our server when we placed our order. When our server came around after about 15 mins into eating our food - I asked for a second ketchup - I guess we were supposed to share one little thing of ketchup. It seemed like a big request for some reason. I've always wanted to eat here and was so sad when the food was overcooked (fish and chips that tasted like rubber). The batter was so dark brown on 90% of it and raw on a small strip. The fish was not of the texture of any fish I've ever had. All and all we spent $70 for for people to eat with one drink each. lesson learnt - won't be returning unfortunately read more

We came here for lunch on a few occasions, visiting with family in Lacombe. The decor is easy on the eyes and service was attentive but not overbearing. We only ate lunch here (there are a few extra items served at supper) but choices were still ample and the food was tasty, kind of pub grub with a twist. Totally recommend. read more

The people of Lacombe are straight up #blessed to have this amazing spot in their town! It's a must for anyone traveling highway 2 between Edmonton and Calgary, but try to make a reservation as they are always busy-for a reason. The food is simply outstanding. Literally I think you could eat anything on the menu and it is a win. I love their use of local produce and vendors. Families are welcome and I know when we stop here, my kids are eating quality food. You can find higher end food items as well as your basics which is pleasing to all. My boyfriend and I drove down from Edmonton on a Sunday afternoon to check out the hype. It was ok. The food was good, I had the chicken club sammie and it was large and juicy chicken and the bread was soft, served with fries and an aioli.. also good. My boyfriend had the chicken and waffles, the waffles were large but not fluffy, they were dry and hard. Chicken was yummy though. Lots of craft beer cans to choose from but with the drive we only had shared one. Service was meh, she did her job just fine no complaints but I feel like when a place is so hyped up the service usually brings a certain energy to the table and definitely brings me back. First of all, let me say that I absolutely love a gimmick. And although 'bunch of crazy stuff on top of a caesar' is a pretty played out one, it's a gimmick nonetheless. Obviously, once I found out about their 'caesars that eat like a meal', I decided to make a pit stop on my way to Edmonton. As mentioned by others, a reservation is strongly recommended. Dinner on a Wednesday was absolutely packed and our only option was eating at the bar. I was very much into the initial vibe- extensive Alberta spirits (Eau Claire, Wild Life, Big Rig distillers) and craft beer (like 12 pages of options) as well as trendy decor. Unfortunately, there was only one bartender working and she seemed somewhat overwhelmed between taking orders and making cocktails for service bar. I ordered the pulled pork mac and cheese Caesar and overall, it was pretty good. The bread was amazing and had a garlic bread feel, the actual Mac and cheese and pulled pork components were also delicious. The drawback was a watery, sub-par Caesar. Now, I am fairly finicky with my cocktails, but I feel as though if you're going to make this your flagship menu item, you really need to nail the main component. My friend ordered the steak meal- well cooked meat with an excellent fresh salad. She said the mashed potatoes had great flavour, but a bit too puréed, making the texture less than ideal. I wasn't sure to go 3 or 4 star on this, but decided 3 was the better option when I was handed my bill with a 'here' as opposed to the typical 'thank you' or 'have a nice night' (I used to be a server, so it's not because I'm some crazy fool who doesn't tip). read more

Visiting from Edmonton on a Wednesday night you'd think a reservation wouldn't be needed. All the tables had guests seated! That's a good sign of things to come. We reserved for Thursday night, and after leaving somewhat disappointed we couldn't be seated, I was happy to get a call 5 minutes later that a table became available, so we quickly returned anticipating a great dining experience. No wait to be seated upon our return and began scanning the drink menu! The Maple Bacon chicken wings as an appetizer are prepared fresh, hot and flavorful! Yum! I'm enjoying the pint of Hazy IPA on tap from the local Blindman Brewery. Ordered the 10oz Prime Rib special served Wednesday's. Also ordered the Peach Visiting from Edmonton on a Wednesday night you'd think a reservation wouldn't be needed. All the tables had guests seated! That's a good sign of things to come. Beautifully plated food! I love the fresh vegetables and beef is cooked to perfection as rare. The baked potatoe comes ready to eat with sour cream, chives and cheese. The Yorkshire pudding was a nice touch with the gravy on the side. The chicken breast is amazing! So good, so good! The basil aioli is wonderful. So much to love with every bite! To finish it off we ordered the Dark Chocolate Mousse. Can't go wrong with Chocolate. It's rich with a light whipped cream, blueberries and caramel popcorn! Stopped in for brunch on our way to Calgary from Edmonton after hearing about this place on social media and I have to say, I was a little disappointed. The place is quirky and hipster-y with their decor and their menu offerings, but everything came up a little bit short. Service was okay but not the most attentive, though it was quite busy for a Saturday brunch. We were seated right away, but it took a while for a server to take our order (and the table next to us later on waited *forever* to have someone acknowledge them after being seated). An interesting but short menu - only a page - but we both found something we wanted to try. The smoked trout benedict was good, but wasn't as awesome as we'd hoped. The whole dish lacked something to take it over the edge - some pop of flavour somewhere would have done it. The corn bread base instead of an english muffin was a nice change, but it was so soft it actually didn't hold the dish together very well. The Korean fried chicken sandwich sounded spectacular on the menu, and was a huge let down. There really wasn't anything Korean about this chicken - it was more of a regular fried chicken sandwich. The bread was french toast, which in theory makes it sound interesting, but it makes eating a sandwich quite difficult. It didn't add anything to it flavour-wise, and really, it was just soft and greasy if anything. We did like the selection of beers they had going though, but ultimately, everything was just ok. read more

After several recommendations from co-workers to try this highly touted restaurant, I finally made it there for a Friday night dinner.  As usual, I wanted to try a few different starters instead of a whole meal.  The first three items on the menu looked great so that's what I ordered - knowing I wouldn't be able to eat it all but they looked so tempting!  So I ordered the Brome Lake Braised Duck Wings, the Pulled Duck Poutine and the Blindman IPA Cheese Dip. Pulled Duck Poutine - could have used more gravy but the pulled duck was excellent. This literally would have been my favorite dish in a very long time but the Brome Lake Braised Duck Wings were WAY too over cooked.  The sauce was so good though that this would be an absolute die for dish if they got the cooking right. The Blindman IPA Cheese Dip was very rich and very delicious! I recommend this place and will try again in the future. read more

Unique flavours and an excellent selection (if not one of the best selections) of craft beer you can find in Central Alberta. We were travelling between Calgary and Edmonton and took a rest stop here for dinner per recommendations. Was skeptical of how good a restaurant in a small city could be, but was pleasantly surprised with the flavours and extensive menu options. We ordered the duck wings (first bite average, then grows on you with subtle sweetness, though probably wouldn't order again), brew bq burger (wow, beef patty plus pastrami patty - how innovative and unique! Wish it was a mainstay menu item but unfortunately it was only rotating burger of the month), and the peppercorn steak (10oz, reasonably priced at $30 and super flavourful. Though be warned that it's incredibly spicy with the jalapeño sauce). The beer selection was excellent and consisted of mainly local craft breweries and some national favourites. Definitely a gem; would definitely come again if passing by. read more

Well, what can I say. There are many awesome things about this place, but a couple negatives as well. My bf and I traveled to Lacombe specifically to try Cilantro and Chive. The pictures of the burgers on Caesars looked epic (Caesars that Eat like a Meal), and truly, I should have ordered one of those! Instead, I went with my craving of the day, which was fish and chips. Maybe I had bad luck, but I am a fish and chips pro, and these were mediocre at best. Super thick and greasy batter, and hardly any fish. One of my pieces felt like a chunk of batter more than fish. Having said that, I was in Nova Scotia recently, so maybe I shouldn't have went with this item (my standards have been raised)! But, I have loved fish and chips locally, such as at the Trap and Gill, the Common and Captain Scott's Fish and Chips (two of these places are now out of business, so maybe no one agrees with my taste, haha). I tend not to love O'Byrnes (again, too much batter and grease). So yeah, they were edible, but way too over-priced for the tiny amount of fish. The had a Caesar flight, and that was very cool and fun to share - 4 different types of Caesars, and with alcohol from Alberta distilleries. I love that they support local, and support Alberta products. The restaurant was quite hot inside, but it was cute. I almost want to come back one day to try a burger on a Caesar. I was a fool to try East coast food. My experience was just so so, but OK enough to come back and try again one day. In general, our Lacombe visit was sweet! Food tourism is awesome! If traveling to Lacombe, make sure to also try Blindman Brewery and Old Prairie Sentinel Distillery. read more

The service is really good and friendly, the place is clean and nice and even the menu's concept is really well thought out... It's just that the food doesn't really deliver unfortunately! Maybe not what I was quite expecting after all the rave reviews I have heard about Cilantro and Chive. I really waffled between a 3 star and 4 star rating, but I will go with 4 as there is a lot about this place that is awesome, but a bit that also left me scratching my head. We have been dying to try this spot for a while, and decided to do a Sunday afternoon road trip down from Edmonton to Lacombe for dinner with another couple. We stopped in Ponoka for a beer at Siding 14 (Blindman Brewing is closed on Sundays, but Siding 14 was awesome as a "Plan B") and carried on to Lacombe. We arrived to find a very busy restaurant and were asked if we had reservations. We did not (that's on us, we had no clue it would be this busy) but the hostess was awesome and said she would squeeze us in after the girls informed her we had come down from Edmonton. We were seated at the bar until a table was ready. The beer selection here is RIDICULOUS. Looking at their beer cooler is like peering into an adult candy store. So many incredible choices. They only rotate four beers on tap, but the can selection is phenomenal. Unfortunately it is also very pricey, which would be a bit of a theme here. I ordered a can of Blindman Session as I was driving, and it was nine dollars and change. Any way you slice that, it's damn expensive. My buddy had a Taco IPA (I think?) that was on tap and the girls explored the cocktail men... which is equally impressive. Caesars, Mules and Sangria were consumed and enjoyed by the ladies. As out drinks arrived we were seated. I have to say the space itself is really awesome. Art for sale on the wall, an incredible and impressive bar, and a patio space that looked great. Our server arrived and we ordered. We started with an order of the Brome Lake Braised Duck Wings, which were recommended to us as a "must" by the staff at Siding 14. We all enjoyed these... salty, tender and delicious. They ended up being the highlight of my dining experience unfortunately. For my entree I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. I hadn't had this dish in some time and was craving it so I jumped in. I can happily say I have had the opportunity to have this dish several times in the southern US and have fallen in love with it. This was easily the most disappointed I have ever been with chicken and waffles. It was tasty, but it was incredibly small. And for almost $24 it was in all honesty a rip off. One average sized waffle quartered, with a tiny piece of fried chicken cut in two pieces (like a chicken tender almost... not bone in) and a small fried egg. I can't imagine what the profit margin is on this meal for the restaurant, but it has to be sizable. Anytime I have ordered chicken and waffles in the US there is more than you can eat. Here I literally could have crushed three of these. Again at over $23 you shouldn't be hungry after eating your meal... Heather ordered the Noodle Bowl with Pork Belly which was a much better choice than mine. It was sizable, fresh and delicious. Lucky for me she couldn't finish her dinner and I had the good fortune of eating the remainder for here. The other couple had the pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese and slaw (she couldn't finish half of her order which she loved and was the most impressive looking dish on our table) and the Alberta Burger with fries (which my buddy also enjoyed). So I think I just picked the wrong item off the menu. Service was friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere was relaxing. All in all we enjoyed it here but just didn't think it quite lived up to the hype... especially for the pricing on some items. read more

Really interesting and tasty combinations. If you traveling on Hwy 2 and want something better than gasoline alley in Red Deer, try Cilantro and Chive in Lacombe. We had the lamb burger with blueberry goat cheese and roasted pepper aioli on a toasted sesame bun. My wife couldn't seem to eat it fast enough! I had the steak salad with arugula, edamame, red onion, radish and sprinkled with sesame seeds and served with a strawberry peppercorn dressing. Very fresh and Extremely tasty. Drove from an hour away just to have supper here and was not disappointed. Opted for the wild boar burger which exceeded any expectations I had. Meat was tender and grilled to perfection. Crisp lettuce, sweet blueberry compote and crunchy fries. I'm not even sure I chewed the burger was so good. Upon leaving we bumped into the owner outside on the sidewalk and thanked him for the amazing meal. After hearing so much about this restaurant I finally got to go. It was definitely worth the wait. Our table of 6 had: duck wings, cheese dip, mussels, fish and chips, cavatappi with sausage, Korean pork belly bowl, and I had the butternut squash ravioli. Everyone was happy. I was delighted. That ravioli was amazing. The only person a bit disappointed was the child with us who thought she was getting slider sized burgers but got a full size one she couldn't get her mouth around to take a bite. I'm looking at you Devon and Leduc. Fresh food, daily specials, loads of craft beers including many from Alberta breweries. Burger was excellent, hand formed patty, hot, seasoned well. Had the daily special salmon chowder as my side which was decent. Service was friendly and efficient, food came out quickly. Try stopping here if you are heading down the QE2 instead of the dreaded Red Deer Gasoline Alley, hit the Cannoli Place just around the corner for desert before you head back out of town. read more
