Amazing burritos!!! The pastor has large chunks of meat and pineapple. Everything is cooked to order so don't expect your food to be done super fast like chipotle. Nothing is pre-cooked here. I'll be honest to say that I was nervous to try this place. Mexican food is hard to come by and from what I know so far, there aren't many places here in Gainesville. If you get a quesadilla, I highly recommend the carnita for your chosen protein. It's so juicy and tender - and perfect for a burst of flavor. Also, please get the street corn! It's also known as "elote", and I've always wanted to try it after seeing it on various foodie accounts. It's probably the best appetizer to get. My favorite salsa is the spicy red salsa and the pico. LOCATION (5/5): Plenty of free parking. Near other restaurants. Overall located in a fun area of town. PRICE (3/5): The only thing I am not a fan of at Cilantro is the prices. Three tacos are around $12 and that does not include chips or a drink. After adding chips, drink, and tip, my total was near $20. For a walk up taco bar, this is a bit excessive. There's a reason why I keep coming back here. I've only gone to Cilantro Tacos during their lunch special ($9 for two chicken tacos, chips and salsa, and a drink) so I haven't tried anything else on the menu besides that, but their tacos sure leave me wanting more after! Out of the three types of tortillas they offer (flour, corn, and hard shell), I have only tried the corn and hard shell. I enjoy both, but because the meal already comes with a side of chips, the crunch aspect I want is satisfied enough that now I only order corn tortillas. The size of the meal keeps me full afterwards, but sometimes I wish I could eat a third taco since I enjoy them that much. As for the salsa, it's hard for me to compare it to other salsas I've tried since I'm not that big of a salsa gal, but I don't dislike it! The reason why I give Cilantro Tacos 4 stars, however, is how cramped the space feels. When I get there before 11:30am--just within thirty minutes of the restaurant opening--it's fine since not many customers are there. Unfortunately, it seems like this place is a hot spot for lunch because once 11:45 hits, seats run out fast. While they do have outdoor seating, the first time I went was around 1:00pm and even those tables were all occupied. Staff were all masked up and practicing social distancing, etc., so I felt pretty comfortable ordering take-out for myself with my high-risk immediate family. Ordered 3 hard tacos, 1 lengua and 2 grilled flounder. In popping my lengua cherry I'd say it was really quite good and will try it again! The flounder was decent but I suspect it was previously frozen; no big deal, still tasted very good but might suggest they hit up their neighbors NW Seafood for some fresh fillets. Barbacoa beef quesadillas were tasty! Nice flavor and it had a pleasant little kick spice wise. Only thing I really disliked was a "large" $3 tub of what strikes me as canned "nacho" cheese. Maybe they keep it on the menu for some of their special customers, maybe it's for soccer moms to keep their kids busy chowing down on tortilla chips, but it's terrible. It tastes like it's right out of a can with a distinctive preservative-slash-chemical aftertaste. I mean if you're REALLY feeling nostalgic for movie theater nachos smothered in this kind of stuff, what with these "difficult" times and all, then you're in luck, but this goop just doesn't sync with the high quality of their other offerings, especially at that price for a maybe 3 oz container. Cilantro has made it easy to enjoy their food during the COVID pandemic. You can order online or call in and then pick the food up. I work just above the Tioga location and order from here at least once a week. Lately I have favored the Nate-style authentic chicken tacos with the delicious spicy green salsa. The food is really good, the location small When my wife was pregnant she CRAVED Cilatro tacos. so for the last few weeks we were there almost daily for at least 1 meal. I've had just about everything on the menu at this point and they have all been pretty good. My favorite is the carnitas because there's a hint of cinnamon flavor that i really enjoy in shredded meat. I also prefer their salsa verde to the red and I think you will too if you dont like tomato sauce. The location in Town of Tioga is small with most of their seating outside. This makes it a bit tricky when its super hot out or on the 2-3 days a year where its cold, like our last visit. There was a bit of an issue in that they only had 1 high chair out. Cilantro Tacos has been on my "Bookmarked" list for quite some time now and I decided to give it a shot this past weekend! I reside near the university, so the drive here was around 20 minutes, which is a bit far for me. Its a cute little restaurant that seems beach-themed with the register being tiki bar-styled with all the drinks up front. Our waiter was super friendly and when asked about their various salsas, offered to give us small samples to try. The green salsa was the one I liked out of the three options given. The other salsas included on that was a little spicy and the other was chunky fresh salsa. We ended up ordering their guacamole and chips, which was very tasty! For my lunch meal, I ordered 3 tacos (one with chicken and the other two with beef) while my boyfriend ordered steak quesadillas. The prices are fairly cheap for lunch and you get a lot of food for what you pay for! My tacos were topped with cilantro, cheese, onions and tomatoes - basically regular taco toppings - and the plating of the food was cute! The tacos came in a holder so they stood upright! In the quesadilla, it had the normal toppings but an interesting twist adding kale in there as a topping. I honestly felt as though the tacos and quesadilla were nothing amazing. It's a taco truck! Not super special, but you can't go wrong with this. I had Cilantro Tacos from the taco truck yesterday. They were good, greasy, but just enough grease. I wish there was a truly HOT hot sauce. I tried the green sauce that was advertised as mild and the red sauce, a mole, which was was advertised as hot. Mole sauce is rarely super spicy. We went to the restaurant last night for a bite to eat. We were greeted and seated quickly, despite a somewhat steady flow of patrons coming in the door. Most of them were coming in for take-out. The interior is furnished simply, but it is clean, so no complaints at all there. Two of us ordered the chips with queso, I tried them and found the seasoning on the chips to be very overpowering to the point where you almost could not taste the queso. It was too... distracting. I ordered the steak quesadilla and the beef burrito. The burrito was very good, and with an addition of the hot sauce that you can find up front it was became even more so. The quesadilla I found to be a little sub-par, but then I have also experienced the quesadillas at a more authentic Mexican restaurant over in Gainesville to which I pretty much measure everything else against, so I may be a bit biased here. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it just didn't quite measure up. The hosting staff were all very nice and friendly, and we were able to banter with them without any issues. Really, I would have given them five stars if it were not for the seasoning on the chips. I think there is room for improvement there and with the quesadilla, but beyond that I think they have great food and service, and they are certainly worth going for a bite to eat. read more

There are two things I love about Cilantro Taco -the super delicious tacos and the people who make them! I have visited both the brick and mortar in Newberry and the food trailer that can be found out and about in Gainesville. Service and food at both locations are totally on point! Now let's talk tacos...the ingredients are fresh, the tortillas are tasty and the fillings are divine! My husband (who isn't easily impressed) loves the carnitas tacos. They're amazingly delicious and have a really unique taste. I love the veggie tacos. They're loaded with rice, beans, veggies and topped with cilantro -yum to the maximum power! I've had plenty of veggie tacos over the years and most are just okay, but these are something special. Aside from serving up some of the freshest, tastiest mex in town, they spend a great deal of time supporting our community and other local businesses. I don't make it out to Newberry too often to eat, but a friend recently recommended that I make a trip to try Cilantro Taco. I found the drive well worth it as their tacos were some of the best I've had around here. Fresh is the operative word when it comes to describing their tacos. You can clearly tell that they use high quality fresh produce, and it's always a good sign to me when a restaurant uses corn tortillas by default. The proteins (I recommend steak, my wife recommends fish) are well seasoned and finish off this great taco experience with flying colors. At first I was skeptical because we started off our meal with chips that tasted like they came out of the bag. The salsa with the chips tasted fresh but lacked much flavor (the hot salsa is a little better than their mild), and the amount of salsa they give you is so little it feels like they're rationing it. I hope they take a page out of La Pasadita's book and eventually go to made-to-order chips which patrons can pay for. You want the first bite of food you serve guests to knock them off their feet. Luckily their tacos easily make up for this. I like hole-in-the-wall places, and this is definitely one. Come for the food, not the ambiance. The staff has been very inviting and friendly, and the food comes out quick. You can tell this is a family affair, which adds to the appeal of Cilantro Taco. While eating here I feel their passion to serve high quality food and make sure guests are happy. OK, I admit it. Based on creds no stronger than a couple of vacations in rural Mexico and two years' living in San Antonio, Spouse and I have become Mexican food snobs. Spare us your fancy decor and your mariachis (tho' a margarita or two won't be dissed). Our favorite places are divey, preferably where we are among a handful of Anglos in the room. Well, we didn't find that at Cilantro - yes, its decor is informal, the servers are friendly, but everyone except the owner/chef was definitely Anglo. We were there today on the basis of Yelp -- and boy were we pleased. The menu is small, but everything - everything - is totally fresh. Their barbacoa was excellent, and the fish tacos were to die for. Beautifully marinated fish, which the chef recommends you try with their absolutely fresh pico de gallo. (She says they make it at least 2-3 times a day.) The beans are like what I know as charro beans, none of those lardy refritos . . . and the rice was your basic, properly cooked Mexican rice, golden and yummy. Unless you specify otherwise, everything comes on homemade corn tortillas - and our only issue is that they are so fresh they crumble when you try to eat them. We ordered the combo plate - two tacos plus rice and beans, $7.95 -- and had our tacos with the works - cheese, tomatoes, cilantro, onion -- flavors blended beautifully. Oh yes, you do have to ask (and pay a bit extra) if you want chips and salsa. The salsas are all home made - green comes gentle or fire-roasted, and the red is fire-roasted fire. The chips are from a grocery bag, not really worth it - I'd rather have a plate of tortillas to dip. Our only quibble: Cilantro Taco would do well to take a page from some of the divey-er places we've frequented, and double up on the tortillas for the tacos - we'll ask for this the next time. Because yes, admitted Mexican food snobs that we are, we're already planning when we can take the 25-minute drive to Newberry again.
