I am really surprised to see other reviews here which are negative, because I had a great experience and I'm very picky about Mexican food. So picky in fact my friend Davis and I go to get Mexican once a week in Ocala because we're not satisfied with any Gainesville or Newberry Mexican restaurants. The ambience here is . . . well, you can see it as festive or garish I guess either one. Very brightly colored Mexican chairs and everything else. Both a radio playing and television on with sound: I don't get why restaurants need to have TVs, I can see it for a sports bar but every single restaurant? Come on. Service however was friendly and prompt. Then there is the food. The chips and salsa were certainly homemade and tasty. I ordered chicken tamales and the three-tamale plate comes with rice, black beans, and the tamales themselves buried beneath a salad of lettuce, tomato, and Mexican cheese. The plate was enormous and every aspect of it fresh and very, very, good. The tamales, especially. Prices are very fair for such quality and large plates of food. Maybe when it first opened things ran a bit rough hence the poor reviews but I was only impressed: first-rate authentic Mexican with a varied menu and very good portions. read more

The pupusa's are some of the best we've ever had, there was a healthy Salvadoran population where we came from and once we got here... well, we missed pupusa's a great deal. Their Birria tacos are also very delicious! Definitely recommend, the only thing that could be improved on in my opinion are the chips. read more

Lo Cocina Taqueria is the local Mexican restaurant in Williston, FL. It was the go to place for my parents, and the first place my dad and I went to eat over the Thanksgiving holiday. The restaurant has seen its ups and downs, and has changed hands a few times over the past few years according to my dad. I've seen some of the poor reviews and while those may be warranted in the past, we should always go in with an optimistic attitude. This visit was one of those that ranks up among the best! La Cocina Taqueria is housed in a small building in Williston right off of US27. Parking can get tight but is within walking distance from anywhere you do park. The interior is what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant, bright and colorful. Dad and I sat at a table and perused the menu. I landed on steak fajitas, and margaritas were a must. My fajitas came out on a sizzling plate along with all the accoutrements. Red and green peppers were mixed in with the plentiful onions, and a pile of meat. I've read other reviews where the reviewer said their food was bland. I have no idea where they were coming from because my food was very flavorful. The steak was seasoned well as was the rice and the refried beans. Now, lets talk about those beans... they were hands down the best refried beans I have ever had period. The smooth and creamy but also had whole beans mixed in. What made these refried beans the best was the addition of Mexican oregano. Yes, you read that right Mexican oregano. That oreagno gave the beans a depth of flavor that was incredible. I could have had the beans as a meal and I would have been happy and content. The margarita's are very good and a always a necessity when eating Mexican food. I hope these owners make it and continue to provide the community of Williston with great food. This restaurant has been so egregiously poor on service, food availability and food quality the last few times I have been there. They are always out of things that are popular items such as the birria tacos. The last time I went I was the only one in there at lunchtime until a large party came in. The server took their order before mine and was very inattentive. I called first to see if they were out of anything and was told no. I ordered the birria but was told they were out. They were out of the elote, guacamole and two other things I wanted in place of the birria. I decided on a quesadilla which was so bland and dry even though I ordered extra cheese. There was no extra cheese. The rice and beans were tasteless. The food is way overpriced for the quality and service. It honestly is sad as there are so few restaurants in Williston. I don't see how this place will stay open if things are not rectified. I called the owner first to discuss this, and he hung up on me. read more

We stopped in for lunch. This place changed hands and everything else. We went in and the got rid of all the booths and packed it with tables. It's a one page laminated menu. It's very expensive for Williston. The old Mexican place there was very good. And very reasonably priced.they had better salsa also. The beef they used in the fajitas was so tough you couldn't cut it with a chain saw. On the other hand the rest of the food was very good with good presentation. I would eat here again if they're still in business and was in the mood for Mexican and didn't care about spending thirty bucks on lunch.I would just order the chicken fajitas my son got them and they were very good. A friend got the 4 street tacos and said they were very good but over 20 alone and another got the Casadias and it looked great. Our server was the same one we had from the old restaurant and she did a great job. There's not many restaurants in the area but I think we'll probably just make Babba Ques restaurant our regular stop. They have a great salad bar and always have a hot bar to go with it. We can get in and out of there for under $20 with a tip. read more

The food had no seasoning the veggies didn't taste fresh and everything tasted like it came out of a can. Maybe stop trying to run it like a fast food restaurant. The service was good but the food and just the vibe of the place sucked. When you walk into a restaurant you wanna see people sitting down in the restaurant eating not waiting in the parking lot. Oh and it took over an hour to get our food whenever people came in ordered went out to there car and waited people sitting inside eating should get food first. Service was great, she was very friendly taking our order and refreshing our drinks. The smothered burrito was delish, covered in white cheese sauce. The guacamole was a little different recipe than in most places but it was still good. And the furniture looks exactly like the furniture we have here in our area of WI in a couple Mexican restaurants I go to! read more

So we went and tried La Cocina tonight after the transition from the prior Mexican restaurant. We had quit going to the previous restaurant due to decline in food quality and lack of cleanliness. I can say that both of these issues are improved. A fresh coat of paint and much brighter. Even lines in the parking lot! I did not like the arrangement of the tables and seemed like wasted space and less intimate. You order at the counter. Food is definitely more pricey. We had the 4 loaded tacos for $13. Nothing comes with sides so that's extra. $4 for rice and $4 for beans. They do not have a drink machine so cans of coke, diet coke, and sprite are $2 each. Price getting close to $30 now for your meal. Their signature dish appears to be the birria tacos which are $18 for 4 tacos. My wife and I both tried the table salsa and at the same time agreed it lacked any flavor. The carnitas on the tacos were also bland. We do realize the restaurant just opened so taking it all with a grain of salt. We will go back in future but will likely plan on still going to Gainesville to get our Mexican food fix. read more

Last night was out first visit to this new Williston eatery. It was not what we were hoping for. They were out of Chicken. How does this happen with 2 grocery stores within a mile? The salsa they serve with the chips was bland. The birria tacos also lacked flavor and the asada in the tacos had lots of fat. I can't say we'll be back especially after seeing the bill was higher than the prices on the menu. I wish the owners luck but we will have to travel to Bronson or Archer for our local Mexican dinners. read more
