meat was old and you could smell it we waited over a hour and got our food that was absolutely disgusting the meat smelled bad and tasted worse ended up paying and leaving not even eating the meal. Didn't even get an offer to get a different meal just told "it comes like that". Don't recommend to anyone. Need better customer service and better cooks. read more

Las Avina in Newberry is a little gem. The menu is much like other Mexican options in Gainesville but always quick and easy. They have margaritas now as well. I would definitely recommend. read more

A warm welcome when we entered, very friendly interactions with our server, and lightning quick at getting our food to us. The food, however, was not on the same level. Hidden Gem. Couldn't find this on Yelp, so we thought we'd share for area diners to enjoy and support. SERVICE is awesome, young lady who waited on us was related to family who owns the restaurant. Super fast, accurate, great service. FOOD is wayyyyy better than any Mexican the husband and I have enjoyed in gville and surrounding. All good and fresh. e.g. complimentary chips and salsa are homemade and tasty. Guac salad was excellent, per husband. Chile relleno was fresh, roasted whole poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, covered with a red sauce. My enchilada verde with fresh tomatilla sauce and a bit o cheese was made even better with flavorful corn tortillas and spiced chicken. Highly recommend. Las Avina has several locations but we were trying to connect with friends in Newberry so we thought we'd try this location and they offered in-house dining. We ate here on Saturday evening. A sign on the door shared that due to covid -19 and the price of meat that menu items may have increased. A group of 3 had arrived just before we did. They sat on the right so we gravitated to the very far left. Our sever Brian & the bartender both greeted us as we entered. They shared table service responsibility. They brought us standard chips & salsa. I ordered the Torta special $9.95 and they also had 5 different specials listed. I've never had a Torta and OMG for my first one this was delicious! I chose a chorizo with egg (other options steak, beef, pork or chicken) on a half loaf of wonderful almost like a pretzel bread - dark brown crust and a chewy like soft pretzel texture. The sandwich overflowing with chorizo, egg, lettuce, tomato, onions, jalapeños, avocado and some sort of mayo based sauce or spread that made me keep eating until it was all consumed. My hubby ordered a sampler that came to him on 2 very full plates-beef taco, beef burrito, tostado, chili releno, beef filled arepa, enchilada plus salad with avocado and rice & beans all for $15.99. He did not quite finish so I assisted and ate the beef taco brimming with a nice soft queso fresco cheese. After dinner we thanked them for such a delicious meal. My family and some friends visited this location before the high school football game. We had not been to this restaurant before but I assure you it won't be our last visit. This restaurant is located in the small town of Newberry. After eating, we found out they had two other locations. One is located in Archer which is 12 miles south of this location and then another in Willison which is about 15 miles south of the Archer location. The food was made to order and it was packed full of flavor and the portions were huge. The meat was nicely seasoned but was not overwhelming. It had a nice authentic taste. I had all you can eat taco's for $8.50. You could get beef or chicken and they came with cheese and lettuce. You could add additional toppings for an extra charge. They tacos were full of meat, cheese and lettuce and tasted great and the price was great for all you can eat. My wife got a Chimicaga and it was huge and it came with rice and beans. My son got the Burrito Deluxe which was two full sized Burritos. We also ordered queso which had just the right amount of heat to go along with our chips and salsa which come complimentary with your entree. The entire meal was $30.00 and we took home enough food for our lunches the next day. Our server met our every need. She was attentive, she answered any questions we had and kept our drinks full. She went above and beyond and truly cared about her job. The restaurant also has a full bar and drink prices are great also. All of us in our party were very surprised by this hidden gem. After we tried, and failed, to eat authentic Mexican fare at the restaurant down the street whose green sign loudly proclaimed their authenticity, we were very pleased to find Las Aviña. Our first clue was the server who clearly was a native speaker of Spanish and fully fluent in English. She and I chatted in Spanish (I used to be an interpreter and traveled through Mexico extensively). That was fun! Then when the salsa and chips came, the first taste told us this place was the real deal. The delicious, truly authentic stuffed quesadilla made from real Maseca corn masa and corn tortilla enchiladas, all with their special red sauce, shouted, "I'm from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico!" just as truly are the owners of this taste of paradise. We stuffed ourselves with some of the tastiest, most authentic Mexican food we've had in a long while. The only caveat we have is that the "all you can eat" tacos are made with flour tortillas, not my favorite and definitely not authentic taqueria style. I can forgive this great little restaurant though because it's got so many other truly authentic choices (¡cóctel de camarón!) that my only real problem is deciding which one to try first! read more
