The prices are right, the service is great, and I've never had a sub-par meal there. This is some of the best Mexican food in the area. They had a place in Williston Florida, but closed that and stayed in Archer so I have to drive further, but it's worth it. A tasty, family run Mexican restaurant off Archer Road just outside of Gainesville. My friends have eaten here before so they like to come here. The only thing I'd improve is everything is styrofoam or disposable paper plates; I would think investing in real dinnerware would be cheaper?!? I have a standard to making reviews. 1. Parking and Surroundings: plenty of parking right in front of the rest. Easy to get in and out. 2. Seating, Ambiance: Authentic Mexican furniture, chairs, standard seating, simple old town feeling and decor, acompanied by ranchero, mexican folk misic, mariachi playing as background music. 3. Seat yourself anywhere you please. The waitres will immediatly take your order in English or Spanish. Answering any questions you may have about the entrees. They came to the table several times to check on us, very nice and with the outmost attention. 4. Food. We ordered two Tilapia Aviña plates. These came really hot, perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoning made me forget that it was tilapia, served with yellow spanish rice, tortillas, guacamole and pico de gallo. It was a palatial experience as the tilapia requires carefull eating. Very well presented and tastefull. The pictures speak for themselves. 5. Fried ice cream, deliciously crafted. My fiancé and came to explore the town of Bronson while house hunting and ran into this Mexican restaurant. Authentic and fresh Mexican food. Upon sitting our server, Jorge, greeted us and brought over fresh salsa and chips. We came for lunch and both ordered Alambres dish- steak fajita with onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms with melted cheese on a skillet with fresh, hot corn tortillas. This place was never a gourmet restaurant and nor did I ever expect it to be but it has gone so downhill since I first started dining there around 5 years ago that I decided to update my review. Turns out I've never reviewed it which is a shame as I would have loved having a record of thinking this was an acceptable place to get a taco. Beef, chicken or shrimp. Lettuce. Tomato. Refried beans. Unmelted cheese. That's the majority of the dishes here. Whether you order a taco, burrito, quesadilla or enchilada, it all tastes the same. So bland and uninspired, the presentation all looks the same. On my most recent visit I ordered a taco and chalupa with rice and an order of quesadillas to go. I received someone else's order and I didn't even notice at first because I was so blown away by how stale and tasteless everything was. I had hoped the stale taco shells from my previous visit were a fluke but sadly, the taco I received was just as stale. Literally the only thing with any flavor was the cheese, the not-melted-properly cheese. That's pretty pathetic. Please don't think my rating reflects not receiving the correct order. No, it truly reflects the quality of the food. The food was downright dreadful. Not just on my recent visit. It has steadily been getting more and more pitifully bland over the years. The highest I ever would have rated this place was 3-stars and even then it was always "this is good for the area" or "this is a nice alternative to Taco Bell". Not anymore! Taco Bell is far superior to the dreck they serve here. As for the service, it's always ranged from acceptable to ok. But they can't handle more than a few customers at a time. People at your table will receive food at different times or everything, apps and dinners, will come out all at once. One time I even had a waitress who not only hadn't eaten Mexican food before but was so unfamiliar with the menu she didn't know, hadn't even heard of, what a burrito was. I live really close to this place. But I won't be back again. In the future I'll take the 25 minutes to drive to the Taco Bell in Chiefland. Los Avinas is a great place to eat at if you are really hungry. I ordered the mixed fajita lunch special as a to-go order. This came with a container of meat (chicken and steak), a container with rice and beans, 2 tortillas, a bag a chips, and salsa. All that cost around $8. With a drink it came to around $11. The reason I enjoy Los Avinas is for the price and quantity that they serve. It could definitely serve as two meals. Even the drink I ordered was huge. The downfall was the quality of the meat. Both the chicken and steak seemed to be low quality. The steak in particular was very fatty and chewy. Also, I would have loved some extra toppings for the fajitas like sour cream or cheese. My meal was ready 10 minutes after I put in the order which was a plus! Their lunch rush had not started so perhaps they would have taken longer. read more

A nice small restaurant with self seating. The menu has three pages of the usual Mexican restaurant options mixed with custom plates. Alberta's plate is in the picture and very good. There was a minimal wait for refills of drinks. That will not be a problem since their cups are much bigger than normal. A free to go drink was a nice addition. The food is very filling with huge plates. When our table requested more potent hot sauce we did have to wait for a second time to ask the server. The second time she got the more potent sauce immediately and it was very powerful. If you plan on using a gift card from reataurant.com, make sure you print it out. The manager does not accept the code on your phone. That is the only reason for the four out of five stars. read more

We decided to try this restaurant after passing through town several times. We arrived on a Saturday at the perfect time, around 4:30 PM. I say that because around 6:00 PM they started to get very busy. We ordered combination meals, i.e. tacos, chile relenos, tostada, and enchilada. The food was quite good. I am a huge fan of chile relenos. I was very happy to see that they do not batter the chile and deep fry it. It has no batter at all which I was very happy about. The chips and salsa get delivered when you are seated. The salsa is very good, but has no heat at all. If you like heat you may want to ask for a bottle of hot sauce. We ordered micheladas, which were very good. Service, again very good. It's worth a visit being the only Mexican restaurant in this small town. read more

Hubby didn't see Chimichangas on the menu so he asked and they made him one with strips of beef inside with rice and beans. I ordered the Veggie Quesadilla with rice and beans. The Chimichanga meat was wrapped in something unidentifiable. It didn't look or taste like a tortilla. It was shiny on the outside and we could see the beef inside through it! My husband said it had a lot of gristle and was tough. Beans and rice had no flavor, but I have found that that is not uncommon at Mexican restaurants. My Veggie Quesadilla tortilla was heated on the grill until it was hard. It had not been cut into triangles and it was impossible to pick it up so I opened the tortilla and ate the inside. For the small town of Archer this restaurant stays packed. The appearance from the outside of the restaurant doesn't seem very inviting and could use a little touch up to give it some appeal to draw more people in. I have tried their food several times and have found it to be very authentic in taste and presentation. The food is responsibly priced and well portioned. I would recommend the Casadea Loco which is a totilia packed with chicken, steak, shrimp and cheese served with rice. Also the fajitas are awesome!! Their chips and salsa is also delious. I don't get it: this is a decent Mexican restaurant, but I don't agree with the rave reviews. I definitely don't think it's the best Mex restaurant in this area, and I will continue to frequent the Gainesville spots, esp. Linda Vista. The place is small, and is decorated simply. The service was good and prompt. However, there is only one beer choice in pitchers (Modelo). The food choices are typical, but there is a surprising lack of entries with chorizo. The portions are large, and the refried beans were delicious. In short, a good choice, but not deserving of a drive all the way to Archer. read more

This was my third time eating here and they failed to impress me much this time around. There were a few minor issues I'd let go in my original review, but revisiting them for the third time and noticing these issues again, I cannot pass them over so easily. For one, the portions are very small for a Mexican restaurant. For another, they didn't serve enough garnish (onion, cilantro, and tomato) for my tacos and when I asked for more they were dumbfounded then asked if I'd like to order a "side of it". I said, no, I would just like enough of the garnish to finish the third taco in the order: the amount included by any standard was too little by far. Finally, after much debate, I was given free of charge a small container of . . . just cilantro. Also, the tacos did not included salsa verde but only salsa roja. This is not typical of authentic Mexican tacos. The tacos contained some good pieces of beef but also some very tough pieces, and that takes away from their overall quality too, of course. The waitstaff is friendly enough but doesn't seem to understand more complex questions in English (such as the one about the too-small garnish) and speaking to them in Spanish after they'd argued between each other about whether I should be given more garnish "for free" or not was awkward because then they realized I knew what they were saying when they were trying to figure out whether to charge me for about a tablespoon of cilantro or not. They appeared rather embarassed by that point. I would really like to like this place--Archer needs something like this and its location is perfect plus the interior, while simple, feels very authentic and comfortable. However, this was the third time and while I don't recall the garnish being so tiny before, the problem with too-tough meat has been recurrent and as is said in Mexico, nadie tropieza dos veces con la misma piedra. Please note: this is the very same restaurant as "Los Aviña", which is in fact the correct name--not "Los Abina". That's why there's two restaurant entries here on Yelp and two sets of reviews, but it's exactly the same place. I'm not sure how the two entries thing got started, really. read more

We stopped there today . It was very slow and the was there in afew mins. That's about the only thing I can good about this place. Took 30 mins to get our food and even then they messed up my order. Everyone else got their food I waited for the waitress come to see if everything was ok with our food which she never did. Again they was not busy at all. I had to walk up to cashie with plate in hand yo let them know the order was wrong. The cook argue with the other lady speaking in Spanish. All it took was one time and never to return!!! My roomate and I where seated then took a good 10 mins. To get waited on. We where patient figuring we had a new waitress, it wasn't busy at all!!! We ordered our drinks( budlight) that took another 5 mins. We had noticed other folks where coming in getting seated getting there beverages, getting their orders right away. Me and my roomate are from archer area, we are white middle-aged folks, the other folks ( at least 5-6 people) where black folks or Mexicans ( I'm not being racist) that are being waited on before us and received their dinner way before us.
