I had the pleasure of having a Cindy's Diner garbage plate for breakfast. Before you let the name deter you, let me assure you it was nothing short of delicious. The garbage plate is a great mix of eggs, onion, potatoes, cheese, bacon and or ham all mixed together to marry each flavor in a union made for palate heaven. No particular flavor outweighs another, they all perfectly complement each other to make each bit as good as the last. You have a choice of toast or pancakes. I'm sure you thought the carb lover in me choose pancakes, nope, wheat toast was my choice that day. I'm more of a white bread person, but I tried wheat. It was ok, a little to much butter to my personal liking, but crisp and tasty nonetheless. This diner is a FortWayne mainstay. This was the first breakfast place I tried in Fort Wayne. It was very tiny and cramped. The typical diner counter experience. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs with toast. It was really greasy, but that's how corned beef hash is LOL.... I would like to try other places around town, as I just don't care bumping elbows LITERALLY with people while I eat. Nevermind the fact that I'm a lefty so I go against the elbow-bumping grain. if it were bigger, and if the menu were more expansive, I would probably try it again. read more

This place is great! I went Sunday and actually got a seat inside. I felt pretty special because it only fits 15 people so I got lucky. There are a few tables outside where you can eat but you still need to go inside to order. I played some music on the personal jukebox in front of where I sat. That was fun! read more

A good diner. A little cramped, and even though there are only a dozen or so seats in the place it still took a while to get food. The staff is friendly and the food is solid, but not exceptional. Its breakfast, it is hard to screw up, although some manage to do so. Give it a try, it is fun and the close proximity means you will be talking to strangers, we had a good time. It's a diner! It's cute! It's crowded. Eat. Get out. Yes, the locals will carry on a conversation from one day to the next, and you'll eat your eggs and eavesdrop for the short time you're occupying one of the few stools. They know you're not from around here, and no one cares. They are playfully familiar with each other, and they don't mind if you are part of their decor for a little while. In town for a state convention and places like these are the exact kinds of places I hope to run into. And Cindy's did not disappoint! The food was well cooked, fresh, and priced fairly. There isn't much room in there but I feel it adds to its charm. The owner was behind the counter cooking and was happy to fill us in on the great history of the restaurant. During our 20 minute meal numerous locals came in on their lunch break and the owner called them by name. I absolutely appreciate an owner that isn't afraid of putting in sweat equity. This place is a must go to, and is a fine diamond in the rough. If im ever back in Ft. Wayne I'll definitely come back. read more

My husband grew up in Fort Wayne, and Cindy's is the first restaurant he took me to there. Now we try to get there every time we're visiting, and I guarantee that if we lived in the Fort we'd be there every weekend. I never get anything other than the garbage (why order anything else when you've found perfection?) and also like having strawberry or maple donut on the side. Cindy's has been physically relocated several times since 1952. The latest incarnations offers good solid diner food at reasonable prices. Service is prompt. I had the cheeseburger, fries, coleslaw and a bottomless cup of coffee. It was very good. Seating is limited to 15 side by side seats at the counter. You are cozy with your neighbor, however nobody seems to mind. In fact this is, for me, part of the attraction. The ritual enjoyment of "breaking bread" in close proximity of friends, family or just plain good folk all works just right at Cindy's. read more

I've been going here for years, and consistently. It got to the point that Angie knows my order and I do not even have to ask, all the way down to the exact hot sauce that I prefer. This is the best breakfast in fort wayne. Get the garbage, if you don't like him get sausage instead, you will not regret your order. There are 4 "historic eateries" in the Fort: Coney Island hot dogs, The Oyster Bar, Power Burgers and Cindi's diner. Garbage is what everybody orders. I stopped in, for the very first time, today. Grew up in Fort Wayne and actually work on the property where Cindy's last location was. Patrons were talking to each other, even though they were not in the same party. The owner introduced herself and the staff were very pleasant, easy going. Even though I was among strangers, it really did feel as if I stopped by a friend house for coffee. I ordered the Garbage plate. Almost all my fav foods in one dish. This place is pretty neat and you can't help but notice it when passing by due to the antique diner exterior! They have pretty decent food and the atmosphere is very fun! The staff are very friendly and you can tell that they have a lot of love for their business. As other reviewers have said, it's quite small inside, but beyond that, it's a nice experience. The only problem is finding a time when they're open! There's been many a time I wanted to re-visit but it always seems to be closed, the business hours are strange. read more

Haven't been in a while so I thought I might take the family there for breakfast this morning. It used to be that when people showed up, if there was an empty seat beside you, you moved down to make room. You sit, you talk, you eat, then when you're done you go so others could fit in. Not now. While a family of three waited outside, two women sat there next to the empty corner seat talking with empty coffee cups and a check in front of them for the whole time we were there. Same with other seats. All it would have taken was for someone to move down. We had to wait for like 15 minutes because of the same thing. Then on top of that, we sat there waiting for our order, got part of it, then waited for another 15 minutes for the rest. The short haired girl who took over cooking when the older guy (John, I think?) retired told me "Well I have to get these people next" and when I mentioned they came in after we did she snapped at me "Well that ticket is first so it gets cooked first." I don't normally write reviews, I went to the diner after finding out it was close to my hotel. I liked the diner and the waitress inside was very nice. However, the person who was cooking the food, did not wear gloves, not a big deal, but handled the food after, wiping her hands on her pants, drinking her coffee, texting on her phone, and doing who knows what else and I never saw her wash them once when I was there. Went here on a recommendation from a friend. Ended up getting the morning special i believe it was called. Price is very fair, was about 6$ for 2 pieces of french toast, an egg and 2 sausage patties. The diner atmosphere is the bright spot here. It is a fun place to visit for a historical diner experience. The menu is pretty standard old school. My daughter and I ordered the trash, a mixture of potato, egg, ham with a side of toast. It was basically a mooshed together clump of everything in a mashed potato-like pile. No distinction between the ingredients and the ham pieces barely visible. Was okay, Nothing exceptional. My hubby ordered the corned beef hash. Understand, my hubby is a person who is not picky at all. He will eat just about anything! He was also extremely hungry at the time. The corned beef he received was absolutely inedible! It was clearly straight out of a can, spread out over the flattop grill, and left there to burn...black! I am surprised that the waitress would even set it down in front of him. It was a slab of black served next to the two eggs on his plate. He said that, besides being severely burned, it was inedible salty. He left it on his plate. He is not a complainer, so he just ate his eggs and didn't say anything. The waitress took his plate away without even questioning. Now that we have had the diner experience and seen the decor, I see no reason to return here again. read more

I took my current husband here when I was dating him. I am what they in the review call a regular. I have been coming to Cindy's for 20 years. Yes, try to avoid the corner seat as much as possible, no leg room and yes you can bump elbows and get leg rubbed by strangers. I most always order the garbage, no onion. The owners and diner staff are all wonderful and a joy to get know over the years. A Cheers for the breakfast set. Angie knows most peoples orders and just have to say the usual. Unlike other places she does not allow shenanigan's. If you are out of line, she will tell you so. LOVE THAT! John makes his pies from scratch. He also has the old Murphy donut machine if you are a Fort Wayne native, you know what I am talking about.
