I had a errand to run off N. Anthony today and decided to stop by Willie's for a quick lunch. I only had about half an hour before I needed to return to work, so I took a chance that I'd be able to get fed and make it back to work on time. Once seated, a kind server brought me water without asking. She later remembered the slice of lemon I requested for it, too. When my biscuits n' gravy with scrambled eggs were brought, I was in awe. They were the fluffiest biscuits I had seen in a long time... and coming from a southern-born girl, that's a huge compliment! The biscuits were also really good and soft and a nice temperature. The sausage gravy tasted good and was the perfect temperature. I wish it had more sausage crumbles in it, but I was still impressed. I found myself saying "mmm" a few times after my first bite of gravy and biscuit. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was North Carolina-worthy gravy or biscuits, but they were pretty good! The eggs were more fried than scrambled, but they tasted good enough. They actually reminded me of homemade eggs, so that was nice. Overall, I only arrived back at work one minute late, which I don't blame on Willie's. They served me quickly and made sure I was full of good food before I headed back into the real world. Had such a great breakfast here with a larger group and truly loved the whole experience. Our server not only was super attentive with lots of coffee and water refills, but went above and beyond with my order. I should get to the order, and boy howdy was the breakfast good. I love the concept of the breakfast bowl and mine had house made corned beef and hash, with onions and peppers and swiss with eggs on top. I opted for a side of turtle pancakes, and when they came out, they were missing the turtle topping and the server kindly noticed and said "let me make sure to get those turtled up for you." Went back into the kitchen themselves and turtled up the pancakes. So kind and such a great topping. My 5 others in my party loved the food and the coffee as well. We end up eating at a lot of places together and this was as standout from great food and great service. read more

We have been going to Willies Family Restaurant for 15+ years. By going, I mean weekly regulars. Today, perhaps, our table was cursed. At first, I wasn't going to write about the experience, chalking it up to slow Mother's Day service. However, the Mother's Day breakfast simply became an altogether waste of time and money. We arrived and were immediately seated. And then we waited. My wife did receive a coffee cup after about 10 minutes. But no coffee. We received water, coffee and an iced tea about 10 minutes later. Wanting to place an order, we reached out for help. Brushed off. After 45+ minutes, we placed our order and my wife got a refill of her coffee. Our meal was delivered -- piecemeal over maybe 5-10 minutes. Some food never made it. Other food not ordered was delivered. My wife never experienced an empty coffee cup here, until today even as servers walked by. My food was not cooked as ordered. Sent it back, and half came back correctly and the other half returned "as was." And remained cool to cold. We watched one table turn over three times while we were there. Most others, twice. Service was normal everywhere else we could see. Ultimately, we were told there was confusion over who was responsible for our table, even after we reached out early on. One server actively walked by carefully not looking at us. Should we have left? Maybe, but we got caught up in the belief that things were going to improve. Oh well. (They were giving roses to all the mothers, but managed to miss my wife on that, too.) read more

Cute place in strip mall across from Firefly House. Bright and pretty. Not thrilled with food though. Just meh- my eggs were barely warm and the potatoes were cold and flavorless/unseasoned and not crispy- had some crispy pieces but not a good frying job. Wouldn't get them again. Thumbs down . Bacon was the only thing done right. $20 for two breakfasts. Would give them another try and order something different. read more

Stopped in for lunch. There seemed to be a lot of regular customers, which was a good sign. Nice clean cafe with classy country decorations on the walls. Service was very good and quick. We had the potato soup, which was homemade and very tasty. Also ordered the Calli wrap. It was put together nicely and very delicious. Stopped in here after an early morning dr appt at parkview on randalia. I had the breakfast special. 1/2 order biscuits and gravy, with a 1/2 order of potatoes and gravy. I had my eggs scrambled. Around 10 bucks including my coffee. Everything was good. Gravy was strongly peppered. Potatoes and biscuits were properly cooked. Wait staff service was EXCELLENT. Victoria was just the best!! Man, I have NEVER had food that over cooked. Talk about DRY!!!! There wasn't a spec of moisture in the burgers... the breakfast bowls were overcooked to the point the meat was crunchy.. even the pancakes tasted like flour. Decent food, good service, great prices. As a group of 13 people who came in an hour before closing on the day before new years eve they handled us pretty well while they were already kinda busy. My steak scramble was just as I wanted it. I love big portions at breakfast and have come to expect them based on where I typically go (we were out of towners making a 1st time visit) and the portions here were smaller then I would have liked but quality was still in check. Would I come back? Yes I would but if I had other options available I may very well look to see what else is available first. read more

We rode our bikes to breakfast on a Sunday morning. Willie's was busy but we were seated quickly. The food was very good, cooked as we requested. Great! When we went to pay, the server told us it was taken care of because we had waited so long to get our food! We argued that we didn't feel it was long at all, but she said the manager insisted. If you're not a regular here, they don't want you here. Customers will make you feel awkward and stare... Servers put you in the back. My wife and I were seated in an empty room with no one else around.. waitress couldn't have cared less about us. Food is what you would expect from your teenage children trying to cook.. omelet was flat, very little in it and a slice of American cheese half melted on top... Not an inviting place for the non-retired community or first time visitors. With so many other outstanding breakfast places in this town, I would suggest you save your time. read more

My family has been coming here regularly for Sunday brunch for nearly 2 decades, and Willie's never disappoints! Service is fast, friendly, and frequently witty. The food is classic American diner breakfast. I generally have 2 eggs over easy, extra crispy potatoes and cinnamon toast. I'm always a little too full by the time I'm done but can't allow myself to leave a crumb uneaten! They have all the breakfast essential menu items you could want, including sometimes croissants. Fish was excellent. We went for the first time to check out the "all you can eat" fish fry and were impressed with the fish. The coleslaw, green beans, and Macaroni and cheese was nothing spectacular, just run-of-the-mill sides that tasted like they were premade. Service was very friendly. After deciding that Shigs In Pit was a little salty for our lunch budget, my sister and I drove around the corner to eat at Willie's with high hopes of a good home cooked meal. I ordered the daily special, meatloaf with sides of mashed potatoes and green beans. The slice of meatloaf was generous, the mashed potatoes equal to an ice cream scoop and lots of green beans. First off the meatloaf obviously lacked a binder (egg or bread crumbs?) and crumbled and fell apart. The taste was good but the texture was not. The potatoes must has been instant as they were thin and yellow. The green beans had no flavor and all I could think of was that they probably came from one of those ginormous cans you see on the bottom shelf at Walmart for $3.99. Needless to say I ate about 1/2 half of each item and was done! My sister had a salad with shaved ham on top. Really? Barely any lettuce, all skimpy toppings. We each paid around $7 for our lunch regretting it all the way. Would NEVER recommend eating lunch here. read more

My girlfriend got the country fried steak meal and received plenty of food. I got eggs, bacon, and half biscuits and gravy and was still hungry. I can get past the esthetics portion bc I have an imagination and the food was just OK, but the service was slow and our server smelled like she drank a fifth of vodka mixed with cigarette smoke. We were looking for a restaurant which served a "good ole fish fry" which we haven't had since we moved to Fort Wayne. We learned Willie's Family Restaurant serves a fish fry every Friday evening. We arrived right when they started their fish fry at 4:00 PM. We found the staff to be extremely pleasant, friendly and engaging. We told our waitress we were relatively new to Fort Wayne and she welcomed us to the area and thanked us for coming in. Our server took our drink order and provided us with menus. We ordered the fish which arrived promptly after our drinks. The meal is served "family style" so we had plenty of the sides - cole slaw, mac & cheese and green beans. The fish was everything we expected - very filling, delicious and "all you can eat". We topped off our meal with a slice of their homemade pie. We each had chocolate pie which was so very good. The pie reminded me of the chocolate pie which my mother made. Our bill arrived after desert and I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the prices are - given the amount of food we received. I am not certain we will be back every Friday evening but we will certainly come back to Willie's Family Restaurant when we want fish. read more

I've been going to Willie's for over a decade, and the quality of the food has stayed basically the same from one year to another. I can even remember about 10 years ago, when the anti-smoking laws swept through Fort Wayne, and Willie's was one of the few restaurants that tried to desperately hang onto that nicotine-infused customer base by displaying a sign on their door that read, "Private Club - Public Welcome". (Private clubs were granted a smoking loophole for a short time, before indoor smoking was completely banned). However, my problem with this last visit had nothing to do with the past. My problem is with the parking lot. The lot is nothing more than an unpaved, pothole-filled gravel driveway. It rained for a few minutes prior to our arrival, turning the entire place into a giant mud pit. Willie's - would it kill you to pave that lot?!?!?!?!? Or at least use a few buckets of fill dirt and fill in those holes?!?!? I felt like I was driving through downtown Beirut after a bombing campaign. Wow. read more
