They were my special treat growing up where they helped me through my different hair phases and for all of my special occasions. They're now my "treat myself" luxury as an adult and even after I moved, I kept driving about an hour and a half (one way, about 3 hours round trip) to get my hair done. They always made it right when things went wrong and I stuck by them, even when they remodeled and made my "relaxation time" public to the rest of the salon (nobody likes being placed in a lobby/"social room" with foils on their head to be gawked at. I recently decided that after a couple bad encounters with the salon that I'm done getting my hair done by them. Caught in traffic? They have a 15 min policy where they cancel your service, which kinda sucks when you drive over an hour and get stuck in traffic. The girl I've been seeing there for almost 3 years also left and I was never notified and they wouldn't tell me if she went to another salon. The cherry on top was when I requested to know the color they have on file for me and they refused to tell me. Evryone's time is valuable and I understand that they don't want competition, but my money and time is also valuable and I can't keep driving an hour and a half to get my hair done with the threat of having my appointment suddenly cancelled. I'm also loyal to the service rather than the provider, so being set up with someone else that doesn't know my hair or allergies is also a pain. I've already decided I'm not returning whether or not they give me my color, so for the health of my own hair it would have been nice to know what they were putting on me. So, I'll end with, it's up to you whether or not you visit this salon. I've had good and bad experiences and it's been totally dependent on who is providing the service to me. Understand that you can invest all the time and money in the world to them, but just like most businesses they still won't care.

What an amazing experience! This was my first time ever getting a massage. Booking an appointment…read morewas quick and easy through their website (they even have a $30 off first timer coupon right on the website!). You answer some questions about music type, scent of massage oil, whether you want conversation or not, problem areas you want focused on, etc. it was very extensive and helped ease my mind going in as I knew exactly what to expect and could tell they take a lot of care in the details prior to your massage. I walk in and they immediately take you into the back which immediately sets a calming and relaxing mood. They take you to your "lounge" space where you can get changed, relax with a little tabletop waterfall thing going, relaxing music, etc. I didn't have much time to spend in their prior to my massage as the therapist was ready pretty much once I was changed into my robe. I had massage therapist Candace and she was great! I had marked I only wanted conversation if I initiated and she was very respectful of that only asking a time or two if the pressure was good and to let her know if I wanted it more firm or softer than how she was doing it. I said nope it's perfect. So relaxing. Afterwards, they ask if you want tea or water and take you back to the lounge area where there are heated neck towels that were lavender scented so I grabbed one of those and just sat back relaxing for about 10 mins with one of those and just getting my last moments of zen in prior to changing and heading out. The receptionists were very helpful and everyone I encountered was very nice and accommodating. Great experience!

The massage was mediocre, there was absolutely no warmth or zen on the room, there was a bright light shining directly on my eyes (she did give me an eye cover), she poured oil in my hair and only rubbed the front part of mu scalp for a few minutes. She did ask what parts I wanted her to focus on (my hip being one of my top parts) she never touched that part. Let's move ob to the facial. I've had facials all my life and I wouldn't even call this a facial. Let me start by saying as soon as I saw her 3" nails I should of turned and left, bit i didn't. There was no explanation on what she was putting on my face, it was rub on and rub off quickly, no extractions, bottom line l, sadly I layed there waiting for this to be over From beginning to end this was a waste of money and time and I will never go back nor refer. Terrible experience

Stopped by with my mom before Mother's Day for a head spa experience, and I'm going to be honest,…read morewe left laughing because what we got was not at all what was advertised. When we walked in, the staff seemed confused and panicked that we arrived on time for our appointment. After waiting a bit, we were put into our rooms with very little instruction. We were told to take our tops off and get under the covers for a massage. We thought this would just be a neck and shoulder massage included with the head spa package. We had booked the total package, the biggest one they offer and for both of us. We were then told that only one of the workers knew how to do massages, so one of us would get a massage while the other got the head spa, then we'd switch. No robes, no explanation, just "be ready." Our appointment was at 3:30, but nobody came in until 3:55. Sitting in silence for 25 minutes waiting was extremely uncomfortable. When they finally came in, the masseuse asked us to remove the rest of our clothes -- something that was never mentioned beforehand. Their website does not make it clear that this is a full-body massage, so this absolutely needs to be explained better. The head spa itself was a disaster for me. It basically felt like a very rough, deep hair wash. No one explained any of the products being used, what the facial mask was, or what steps were happening during the process. There were no before-and-after photos like other head spa services online. It wasn't relaxing. Instead, it was uncomfortable and even painful. They were digging into my scalp so hard that when I asked for lighter pressure, I was ignored. They were rubbing my hair aggressively between two hands, and I knew I was going to end up with knots. At the end of the head spa time, they started blow-drying my hair with heat, once again without any explanation. I wasn't expecting heat on my hair at all. After this, I had my full massage (about 60 minutes), during which my hair continued drying. When the massage ended, I reached up and felt the biggest knot of my life -- a literal bird's nest on top of my head. The worker immediately saw me freaking out. Instead of explaining anything, she started dumping oil in my hair and brushing through it harshly. I said "ow" multiple times, and it didn't matter. Then she brought the heat tool back out to "help," which only made my hair frizzier and more damaged. Keep in mind this was all happening while I was face-down on the massage table, making my hair even more voluminous and chaotic. I had to go home immediately, wash my hair, and do treatments because it felt fried. If anything, this service made my hair worse. The massage was equally strange. After being told to undress fully, the masseuse worked halfway down our buttocks, pulling the covers down and exposing us in a way that felt completely inappropriate. I've had many massages -- anything near that area is normally done on top of the covers. The pressure was also extremely intense, with lots of elbows and body weight. I was sore for days afterward, to the point where deep breaths hurt. I'm honestly not sure if she strained something. The whole experience was so bizarre that my mom and I laugh about it now, but I would not recommend this place at all. The five-star reviews do not match what we experienced. The pricing was also confusing. We were charged a deposit, then it was returned, then we were charged around half the service cost, then that was removed... and when we asked for clarification, the staff didn't really understand it either. It genuinely felt like we were being scammed for a moment. The ambiance was fine, but the music could've been louder, and the décor felt like several themes mixed together. Sticking to one vibe would help. Overall, I wish we had gone to the Bridge Park head spa or even somewhere like Kenneth's instead. This was not worth the price or the stress. Modern Male does a good job of capturing the 'male spa' experience without feeling forced or pretentious and they offer a wider array of services than their peers. While I haven't yet sampled any of the their other offerings, I have been returning to the same stylist (Courtney) for a haircut/ scalp treatment for the better part of a year so far and couldn't be happier. Truth be told, I'm not sure what the value of the scalp treatments is - or if I need it, but it's a really relaxing massage at the very least! Everyone in the salon is extremely pleasant and engaging, and the space is cozy, clean, and has a good energy about it. They don't have their own parking, but there is a large lot nearby and I've never really had any issue finding a spot. I intend to avail myself of their other services in the future, so I may edit at some point, but this place is aces in my book!
